Abstract Background Several health institutions developed strategies to improve health content on Wikimedia platforms given their unparalleled reach. The objective of this study was to compare an online volunteer-based Wikimedia outreach campaign with university course Wikipedia assignments (both focused on improving hearing health content in Wikimedia’s public digital knowledge archives), in terms of the reach of the contributions and the extent of the participants’ input. A secondary objective was to examine the feasibility and the implementation of the different strategies. Methods The research team partnered for the (1) coordination of improvements in hearing and healthcare content through educational programs using Wikimedia platforms, (2) participation in the global campaign Wiki4WorldHearingDay2023 and (3) evaluation of the proposed strategies. Metrics used in the comparison of the two strategies included the number of articles edited, number of views of the edited articles (as reach) and the extent of edits, captured as the number of words. The feasibility evaluation included assessing recruitment success and the implementation of the proposed plan among faculty, students from various university programs, and volunteers representing different constituencies. Results The effort increased the availability of quality plain language information on hearing conditions and hearing care. Both strategies demonstrated to be feasible by their success in recruiting participants who contributed to the effort and by measurable outputs as edits. The contribution of content to Wikimedia platforms as part of education activities provided a more robust result. Wiki4WorldHearingDay2023 145 participants (78 from educational programs) contributed 167,000 words, 258 + references and 140 images to 322 Wikipedia articles (283 existing and 39 new ones), which were viewed 16.5 million times. Contributions occurred in six languages. Edits in Portuguese, mainly by those involved in educational programs, led the number of articles (226 or 70.2%) that were expanded or created during the 5-month tracking period. Conclusions The elements that contributed to the success of the studied strategies include an impact topic, coordination with educational programs, international multidisciplinary collaborations, the dissemination of the initiative in several platforms, connection with a robust local Wikimedia affiliate, and the use of a technical infrastructure that provides metrics and coordination mechanisms. RESUMO Objetivo Desenvolver, atualizar e aprimorar um site autoinstrucional sobre sistemas de microfone remoto para estudantes com deficiência auditiva e seus fonoaudiólogos, professores e pais e validar o site como ferramenta de formação continuada para professores. Métodos Estudo transversal, descritivo, quantitativo. Todo o conteúdo do site REMIC foi convertido em infográficos com base no design instrucional. Treze professores do ensino fundamental responderam a três questionários (questionário teórico pré e pós-intervenção, Ficha de Pesquisa Motivacional e Escala de Autoavaliação do Impacto do Treinamento no Trabalho). Resultados Foram criados seis módulos utilizando infográficos, comunicando conteúdos específicos de forma objetiva ao público-alvo. Houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre pré e pós-treinamento em relação ao questionário (p-valor 0,005). O domínio “Significativo” da Ficha de Pesquisa Motivacional teve a maior pontuação (19,23), e a média da Escala de Autoavaliação do Impacto do Treinamento no Trabalho foi de 42,3 pontos. Esses resultados indicam que o site é valioso para a formação de professores. Conclusão O site REMIC foi atualizado e está disponível em https://remic.fob.usp.br em português brasileiro e inglês americano. Os professores o consideraram eficaz como ferramenta de formação continuada.

RESUMO Objetivo traduzir e validar para o português brasileiro o instrumento Childhood Hearing Loss Question Prompt List for Parents, visando apoiar a comunicação entre profissionais de saúde e famílias de crianças com perda auditiva no Brasil. Métodos abordagem metodológica compreendendo a tradução e adaptação transcultural do instrumento, seguida de validação por meio de um processo iterativo que envolveu especialistas e o público-alvo. A tradução foi realizada por tradutores bilíngues, com subsequente retrotradução e revisão por um comitê de especialistas, para assegurar a equivalência conceitual e cultural. A validação envolveu a coleta e análise de feedback de pais de crianças com perda auditiva e profissionais fonoaudiólogos, utilizando o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo para avaliar a adequação do instrumento. Resultados a análise indicou aceitação positiva do instrumento traduzido, com a maioria dos itens atingindo Índice de Validade de Conteúdo acima do limiar de 0,78, refletindo a relevância e compreensibilidade do instrumento no contexto brasileiro. Um item específico não atingiu o índice desejado, destacando a necessidade de revisão adicional para otimizar a clareza e pertinência. Conclusão o Childhood Hearing Loss Question Prompt List for Parents traduzido e validado demonstrou ser uma ferramenta eficaz para o contexto brasileiro, facilitando a comunicação centrada na família e o envolvimento em cuidados auditivos pediátricos. Este estudo reforça a importância de adaptar e validar instrumentos de avaliação para refletir as especificidades culturais e linguísticas, assegurando a aplicabilidade e eficácia no atendimento às famílias de crianças com perda auditiva.

RESUMO Objetivo Desenvolver guia para elaboração de relatórios fonoaudiológicos de crianças implantadas para serem compartilhados entre fonoaudiólogos dos serviços de implante coclear (IC) e reabilitadores. Método O método Delphi foi utilizado para selecionar os itens relevantes e fundamentais que deveriam constar nas duas versões propostas para compor o guia: Guia 1 - Relatórios fonoaudiológicos fornecidos pelo serviço de IC aos reabilitadores, e Guia 2 - Relatórios fonoaudiológicos fornecidos pelos reabilitadores aos serviços de IC. Vinte e um fonoaudiólogos especialistas e com experiência na área de implante coclear e de reabilitação auditiva participaram da discussão e do julgamento dos itens durante as rodadas de seleção. Considerou-se consenso quando o item obteve a concordância igual ou superior a 80% entre os participantes, sendo selecionados para comporem os dois guias. Resultados Após as duas rodadas, 21 itens do Guia 1 obtiveram consenso entre os terapeutas, ou seja, mais de 80% deles concordaram que estes itens deveriam estar presentes no relatório enviado pelo serviço de IC. Para o Guia 2, 22 itens analisados pelos fonoaudiólogos atuantes em serviços de IC setor pós-operatório, foram selecionados na segunda rodada. Conclusão A partir da análise das duas rodadas, foi desenvolvido o “Guia para a elaboração de relatórios fonoaudiológicos: intersecção entre serviço de IC e reabilitadores”. Este material pode ser aplicado na rotina de acompanhamento de crianças implantadas, padronizando as informações compartilhadas sobre o dispositivo eletrônico, resultados de avaliações, monitoramento dos resultados e processo terapêutico dessa população.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the use of the Frequency Modulation (FM) System by children and adolescents in a public hearing health center in the state of São Paulo. Methods: the analysis of medical records based on eligibility criteria. Data were collected from 340 participants born between 1998 and 2011, fitted with FM System, and who attended the follow-up appointment after fitting the device. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Results: hard-of-hearing children and adolescents of both genders from all over Brazil, attending elementary, middle or high school in public or private schools, participated. The data showed that 115 children and 155 adolescents effectively used the device, especially at school. The main difficulty for children was the lack of support from teachers; for adolescents, it was the feeling of embarrassment. Conclusion: some difficulties, especially on children, in adhering to the use of FM Systems were identified. Hence, to ensure the FM System's effective use, the importance of providing guidance and awareness of its benefits to patients, and their family members and teachers, during the fitting appointment and follow-up consultations, is emphasized.

Introduction: One of the main implications of hearing impairment is the difficulty in perceiving speech sounds, especially in noisy environments. Thus, the frequency-modulated system is considered an important educational tool for children with hearing impairment because it improves speech perception in acoustically-unfavorable environments, such as in the classroom. The assessment of speech perception in noise is included in the verification protocol of this device. Objectives: To verify the effectiveness of the phrases in noise test Brazil in children with hearing impairment using an frequency-modulated system. Methods: This was a cross-sectional cohort study. The sample included 40 children, aged 4 years to 11 years and 11 months old, divided into 4 groups: (1) 10 normal hearing children; (2) 13 children with hearing aids and frequency-modulated system; (3) 12 children using cochlear implant and fitted with the frequency-modulated system; and (4) 5 children diagnosed with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, fitted with hearing aids and/or cochlear implant and with the frequency-modulated system. RESUMO Objetivo Traduzir para o idioma português a ferramenta My Experience Book, avaliar o conteúdo da tradução, o nível de legibilidade, a qualidade e a identidade visual do material e disponibilizá-lo online. Método Estudo descritivo, transversal, de caráter quantitativo e qualitativo. Os procedimentos contaram com cinco etapas, sendo: tradução do material; avaliação e resposta ao questionário 1 referente à tradução; determinação da validade do conteúdo; avaliação da legibilidade; disponibilização do material online e avaliação do conteúdo voltado à qualidade e a identidade visual (questionário 2). Participaram do estudo três fonoaudiólogos, juízes e 22 profissionais (fonoaudiólogos e médicos otorrinolaringologistas de serviços de saúde auditiva e reabilitação). Resultados A tradução do material apresentou taxas de concordância de validade maiores que 90%. A legibilidade classificou o material com nível fácil de leitura. Dentre os 184 profissionais convidados, 22 concordaram com a participação, demonstrando baixa adesão ao estudo. A maior parte dos respondentes concordaram positivamente com os aspectos relacionados ao conteúdo e coerência do material traduzido, vídeos, imagens ilustrativas e legendas. O material também foi considerado importante pela maioria dos avaliadores. Todos os fonoaudiólogos referiram fazer uso do instrumento na prática clínica. Conclusão O material traduzido referente à ferramenta é de grande relevância, pois reúne informações práticas voltadas à criação de um caderno de experiências, bem como orientações quanto ao uso do instrumento como recurso adicional para a estimulação do desenvolvimento das habilidades auditivas e de linguagem de crianças com deficiência auditiva.

RESUMO Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente para o português brasileiro os questionários Self-Advocacy Checklist “I can”, Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (ASAC-ES), Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - MIDDLE SCHOOL (ASAC-MS) e Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - HIGH SCHOOL (ASAC-HS), para avaliar os habilidades de autoadvocacia de usuários de dispositivos eletrônicos auditivos. Método A tradução foi realizada por meio de uma adaptação das diretrizes de Beaton et al. (2000). A versão pré-teste foi aplicada em dois grupos. O Grupo 1 (G1) foi composto por 14 professores de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva. O Grupo 2 (G2) foi composto por 15 pacientes adolescentes com deficiência auditiva, usuários de dispositivos eletrônicos auditivos, que fazem uso da linguagem oral como forma primária de comunicação. Resultados Os instrumentos foram traduzidos como Checklist de autoadvocacia “Eu consigo” e Checklists de Autoadvocacia em Audiologia - Ensino Fundamental I, Ensino Fundamental II e Ensino Médio. Para o G1, não houve relato de dificuldade em relação aos termos utilizados nos protocolos, porém, relataram dificuldades em relação ao preenchimento do progresso do estudante. Para o G2, as fonoaudiólogas que aplicaram os instrumentos em forma de entrevista não relataram dificuldade quanto ao uso do instrumento e sua aplicação. Após a aplicação da versão pré-teste, não houve necessidade de fazer alterações nos instrumentos, os quais foram apresentados como versão final. Conclusão As Checklist de autoadvocacia foram traduzidas e adaptadas culturalmente para o português brasileiro e são instrumentos válidos para a mensuração das habilidades de autoadvocacia de estudantes com deficiência auditiva em contexto clínico.

Introduction: The frequency modulation system is a device that helps to improve speech perception in noise and is considered the most beneficial approach to improve speech recognition in noise in cochlear implant users. According to guidelines, there is a need to perform a check before fitting the frequency modulation system. Although there are recommendations regarding the behavioral tests that should be performed at the fitting of the frequency modulation system to cochlear implant users, there are no published recommendations regarding the electroacoustic test that should be performed. Objective: Perform and determine the validity of an electroacoustic verification test for frequency modulation systems coupled to different cochlear implant speech processors. Methods: The sample included 40 participants between 5 and 18 year's users of four different models of speech processors. For the electroacoustic evaluation, we used the Audioscan Verifit device with the HA-1 coupler and the listening check devices corresponding to each speech processor model. In cases where the transparency was not achieved, a modification was made in the frequency modulation gain adjustment and we used the Brazilian version of the “Phrases in Noise Test” to evaluate the speech perception in competitive noise. Results: It was observed that there was transparency between the frequency modulation system and the cochlear implant in 85% of the participants evaluated. After adjusting the gain of the frequency modulation receiver in the other participants, the devices showed transparency when the electroacoustic verification test was repeated. It was also observed that patients demonstrated better performance in speech perception in noise after a new adjustment, that is, in these cases; the electroacoustic transparency caused behavioral transparency. Conclusion: The electroacoustic evaluation protocol suggested was effective in evaluation of transparency between the frequency modulation system and the cochlear implant. Performing the adjustment of the speech processor and the frequency modulation system gain are essential when fitting this device. Resumo: Introdução: O sistema de frequência modulada é um dispositivo que ajuda a melhorar a percepção da fala no ruído, e é considerado a abordagem mais benéfica para melhorar o reconhecimento da fala no ruído em usuários de implantes cocleares. De acordo com as diretrizes, é necessário realizar uma verificação no momento da adaptação do sistema de frequência modulada. Embora existam recomendações sobre os testes comportamentais a serem realizados na adaptação do sistema de frequência modulada para usuários de implantes cocleares, não há recomendações publicadas sobre o teste eletroacústico que deve ser realizado. Objetivo: Realizar e validar um teste de verificação eletroacústica para sistemas de frequência modulada acoplados a diferentes processadores de fala de implante coclear. Método: A amostra incluiu 40 participantes com idades entre cinco e 18 anos, usuários de quatro modelos de processadores de fala. Para a avaliação eletroacústica, utilizou-se o dispositivo Audioscan Verifit com o acoplador HA-1 e os dispositivos de verificação de escuta correspondentes a cada modelo de processador de fala. Nos casos em que a transparência não foi alcançada, foi realizada uma modificação no ajuste do ganho do sistema de frequência modulada e, em seguida, aplicou-se a versão brasileira do “Phrases in Noise Test” para avaliar a percepção da fala com ruído competitivo. Resultados: Observou-se que houve transparência entre o sistema de frequência modulada e o implante coclear em 85% dos participantes avaliados. Depois de ajustar o ganho do receptor do sistema de frequência modulada nos outros participantes, os dispositivos mostraram transparência quando o teste de verificação eletroacústica foi repetido. Observou-se também um melhor desempenho na percepção da fala no ruído após um novo ajuste, ou seja, nesses casos a transparência eletroacústica resultou em transparência comportamental. Conclusão: O protocolo de avaliação eletroacústica sugerido foi eficaz para avaliar a transparência entre o sistema de frequência modulada e o implante coclear. A realização do ajuste do processador de fala e o ganho do sistema de frequência modulada são essenciais no momento da adaptação deste dispositivo. RESUMO Objetivo verificar a efetividade da intervenção com atividades lúdicas grupais que visam desenvolver a autoadvocacia e a autocidadania como prática de empoderamento de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva. Métodos trata-se de um estudo experimental pré e pós-intervenção, de abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. Participaram quatro adolescentes com idades entre 12 e 17 anos, usuários de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual e/ou implante coclear, oralizados. Foram realizados cinco encontros presenciais, nos quais foram abordados temas relacionados à autoadvocacia, por meio de atividades lúdicas. Os instrumentos Checklist de Autoadvocacia “Eu consigo” e o Questionário de participação em sala de aula foram aplicados na pré e pós- intervenção. Foram aplicados o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Aadolescentes (IHS-Adolescente) e a Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Inteligência. Os dados foram analisados de forma qualitativa e quantitativa. Resultados No Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Adolescentes, para frequência, todos os participantes foram classificados como abaixo da média ou média inferior. No teste de Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Inteligência, observando o dado de quociente de inteligência de execução, todos ficaram na média. Houve diferenças na comparação dos resultados pré e pós-intervenção do Checklist de Autoadvocacia “Eu consigo”, principalmente no domínio compreensão da audição e da perda auditiva e uso dos dispositivos auditivos. No Questionário de participação em sala de aula, foi observada piora em alguns domínios, como compreensão dos professores e aspectos negativos. Conclusão O programa de intervenção com a estruturação proposta neste estudo foi eficiente para desenvolver as habilidades de autoadvocacia e autocidadania para o empoderamento de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva.

Abstract Due to the large number of individuals with Unilateral Hearing Loss (UHL) and the recommendation to use hearing assistive devices, studies are required to define possibilities of intervention for this population. Objective: To evaluate the performance of the Remote Microphone System (RMS) in children with UHL. Methodology: Prospective clinical study with a convenience sample. Eleven children (mean age of 9.2 years) with severe and profound sensorineural UHL, hearing aid users and enrolled in regular schools participated in the study. They were evaluated using the Hearing in Noise Test (HINT), the Classroom Participation Questionnaire (CPQ), and the Sustained Auditory Attention Ability Test (SAAAT) with RMS. Results: HINT results were analyzed using variance to three criteria of repeated measures, which revealed differences between intervention, position, and time factors and significant interaction between these three factors. Research has reported on the use of soundfield amplification devices in the classroom. However, no study has used standardized tests to determine the potential advantages of the dynamic soundfield system for normally hearing students and for the teacher′s voice. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of using dynamic soundfield system on the noise of the classroom, teacher′s voice and students′ academic performance. This was a prospective cohort study in which 20 student participants enrolled in the third year of basic education were divided into two groups (i.e., control and experimental); their teacher participated. The experimental group was exposed to the dynamic soundfield system for 3 consecutive months. The groups were assessed using standardized tests to evaluate their academic performance. Further, questionnaires and statements were collected on the participants′ experience of using the soundfield system. We statistically analyzed the results to compare the academic performance of the control group with that of the experimental group. In all cases, a significance level of P < .05 was adopted. Use of the dynamic soundfield system was effective for improving the students′ academic performance on standardized tests for reading, improving the teacher′s speech intelligibility, and reducing the teacher′s vocal strain. The dynamic soundfield system minimizes the impact of noise in the classroom as demonstrated by the mensuration of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and pupil performance on standardized tests for reading and student and teacher ratings of amplification system effectiveness.

INTRODUCTION: Individuals with the same ability of speech recognition in quiet can have extremely different results in noisy environments.OBJECTIVE: To standardize speech perception in adults with normal hearing in the free field using the Brazilian Hearing in Noise Test.METHODS: Contemporary, cross-sectional cohort study. 79 adults with normal hearing and without cognitive impairment participated in the study. Lists of Hearing in Noise Test sentences were randomly in quiet, noise front, noise right, and noise left.RESULTS: There were no significant differences between right and left ears at all frequencies tested (paired t - 1 test). Nor were significant differences observed when comparing gender and interaction between these conditions. A difference was observed among the free field positions tested, except in the situations of noise right and noise left.CONCLUSION: Results of speech perception in adults with normal hearing in the free field during different listening situations in noise indicated poorer performance during the condition with noise and speech in front, i.e., 0°/0°. The values found in the standardization of the Hearing in Noise Test free field can be used as a reference in the development of protocols for tests of speech perception in noise, and for monitoring individuals with hearing impairment.

RESUMO Introdução No ambiente escolar, os professores sentem-se incomodados em ministrar aulas em salas ruidosas e percebem a dificuldade dos alunos em ouvir a informação, constatando, assim, que o ruído não é apenas um incômodo, mas também um fator agravante, que interfere no rendimento escolar. Portanto, são imprescindíveis condições acústicas adequadas para o ambiente educacional. Atualmente, não há padronização da metodologia que deve ser utilizada para mensurações das características acústicas das salas de aula. Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar para o Português Brasileiro o protocolo “Classroom Acoustical Screening Survey Worksheet”. Métodos A tradução e a adaptação do protocolo incluiram tradução para o Português, adaptação linguística e revisão da equivalência gramatical e idiomática, assim como a validação de conteúdo, por meio de duas etapas: avaliação individual e reunião entre os especialistas. Resultados O protocolo foi traduzido e adaptado para o Português, resultando no instrumento “Planilha de triagem acústica da sala de aula”. O protocolo apresentou validade de conteúdo e, após apreciação e consenso dos especialistas, mostrou que a adaptação cultural do conteúdo foi clara e objetiva, sendo possível aplicá-la à realidade das salas de aula brasileiras. Conclusão O protocolo “Classroom Acoustical Screening Survey Worksheet” foi trazido e adaptado para o Português Brasileiro, sendo nomeado “Planilha de triagem acústica da sala de aula”. Estudos futuros deverão investigar sua aplicabilidade e efetividade na observação das características acústicas das salas de aula no cenário nacional.

RESUMO Objetivo O objetivo do estudo foi traduzir e adaptar culturalmente para a Língua Portuguesa Brasileira o instrumento TELEGRAM e avaliar sua aplicabilidade em adultos com deficiência auditiva usuários de Aparelho de Amplificação Sonora Individual. Método Foram realizadas a tradução do TELEGRAM para o idioma Português, a revisão das equivalências gramatical e idiomática (traduções reversas) e as adaptações linguística e cultural. Após a tradução, o TELEGRAM foi aplicado em 20 indivíduos adultos com deficiência auditiva. Resultados Foi realizada análise descritiva dos resultados. Após a equivalência gramatical e idiomática foi sugerida substituição de um termo/item, tendo sido o mesmo modificado e compatibilizado ao contexto brasileiro. De modo geral, as perguntas do questionário foram consideradas de fácil entendimento. Dentre as categorias avaliadas, os indivíduos com deficiência auditiva apresentaram maior dificuldade quanto ao uso do telefone e em atividades como participar de eventos em igrejas, festas, ou seja, em situações de ruído, distância e reverberação. Conclusão O TELEGRAM traduzido para a Língua Portuguesa Brasileira mostrou ser uma ferramenta de fácil aplicação na população estudada e efetivo para avaliar quais são as principais situações em que indivíduos com deficiência auditiva apresentam maior dificuldade de comunicação, reforçando a importância da reabilitação auditiva e das tecnologias assistivas para minimizar essas dificuldades.

Summary Introduction: Description for using stethoscopes adapted to hearing aids. Aim: To describe the adaptation of HAs to stethoscopes used by 2 students in the health field with bilateral hearing impairment. Case reports: Two subjects with hearing loss had their stethoscopes coupled to HAs because of the individual requirements of their professions (healthcare) to perform auscultation. Conclusion: The improvement was measured in situ, and satisfaction was evaluated using a subjective questionnaire. The use of a stethoscope coupled to an HA allowed students with hearing loss to perform auscultation.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a percepção da fala de crianças deficientes auditivas com o aparelho de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) e sistema de frequência modulada (FM) em situações de ruído em campo livre e em sala de aula. MÉTODOS: Participaram 13 crianças deficientes auditivas entre 7 e 17 anos. Foi aplicado o Hearing in Noise Test (HINT) com AASI e com o FM. Também foi aplicado o questionário Avaliação do Sistema FM, respondido pelos professores das crianças, com o intuito de avaliar, individualmente, o desempenho da criança em diferentes situações auditivas somente com AASI e com o AASI e o sistema FM. RESULTADOS: Houve diferença para todas as situações com e sem FM no teste HINT. O mesmo aconteceu com os resultados do questionário, sendo que sem FM a pontuação foi sempre menor do que com FM, independentemente da condição. CONCLUSÃO: O uso de medidas subjetivas, como o questionário, é fundamental para determinar a eficácia da indicação dos dispositivos auxiliares para o deficiente auditivo. A efetividade do sistema FM pode ser observada pela "vantagem FM", que é a diferença média mínima de 10 dB encontrada nas avaliações de percepção da fala com e sem FM nas diferentes situações de ruído. Os benefícios encontrados na presente pesquisa com o uso do sistema FM na melhora da percepção da fala podem ser extrapolados não só para a sala de aula e para a legislação da educação inclusiva, mas também para atividades sociais e de lazer.PURPOSE: To assess speech perception of hearing impaired children with hearing aids (HA) and frequency modulated system (FM) in situations of noise in free field and in the classroom. METHODS: Subjects were 13 hearing impaired children between 7 and 17 years. It used the Hearing in Noise Test (HINT) with hearing aids and FM. Questionnaire Evaluation System FM was also applied responded by teachers of children in order to assess individually the child's performance in different listening situations only with hearing aids and hearing aid and FM system. RESULTS: There was significant difference for all situations with and without FM at HINT test. The same happened with the results of the questionnaire, and without FM the score is always lower than with FM, regardless of condition. CONCLUSION: The use of subjective measures, such as the questionnaire, it is essential to determine the indication of the effectiveness of assistive devices for the hearing impaired. The effectiveness of the system could be observed by FM "FM advantage," which is the average difference of 10 dB minimum found in the evaluations of speech perception with and without FM noise in different situations. The benefits found in this study using the FM system in the improvement of speech perception can be extrapolated not only to the classroom and to laws of inclusive education, but also for social and recreational activities.

A maior parte da comunicação humana depende da conversão de ideias em linguagem, envolvendo a interação de todos os seus componentes - fonológico, semântico, sintático e pragmático. A pragmática estuda a relação entre o significado social da linguagem e seu conteúdo semântico, manifestado pelo ato comunicativo em si. O espectro da neuropatia auditiva gera uma dessincronia na condução nervosa, contribuindo para o prejuízo na percepção da fala. Na criança deficiente auditiva, o processo de aquisição e desenvolvimento da linguagem pode ser estimulado com a intervenção. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi realizar acompanhamento longitudinal do uso das habilidades pragmáticas de comunicação por uma criança com espectro da neuropatia auditiva. A criança realizou intervenção fonoaudiológica por três anos na área de Audiologia Educacional. Foram gravadas conversações espontâneas, ao início de cada ano, transcritas e analisadas segundo protocolo de habilidades comunicativas verbais. Na gravação inicial, a criança apresentou maior número de habilidade de respostas diretas; porém, estas foram ampliadas com o fornecimento de respostas mais complexas ao longo da intervenção. Na última gravação, já propõe novos tópicos de discurso, realiza narrativas e argumentações. O surgimento de habilidades comunicativas refinadas é explicado pelo desenvolvimento da linguagem, que é potencializado pela terapia com deficientes auditivos. Pode-se concluir que para o caso apresentado a intervenção fonoaudiológica proporcionou melhora nas habilidades pragmáticas de comunicação.Human communication depends mostly on the conversion of ideas into language, involving the interaction among all its components - phonological, semantic, syntactic and pragmatic. Pragmatics studies the relationship between the social meaning of language and its semantic content, expressed by the communicative act itself. Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder generates a dyssynchrony in nerve conduction, contributing to an impairment in speech perception. In hearing impaired children the language acquisition and development process can be stimulated with intervention. The aim of this study was to present a longitudinal follow-up of the use of pragmatic communication abilities by a child with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder. The child received speech-language pathology therapy during three years in the Educational Audiology area. Video recordings of spontaneous conversation were made in the beginning of each year. These recordings were transcribed and analyzed according to the verbal communicative abilities protocol. In the initial recording, the most frequent ability presented by the child was the direct response; however these were extended to more complex responses during the intervention. In the last recording the child proposes new topics of discourse, produce narratives and arguments. The emergence of more sophisticated communication skills is justified by the language development, which benefits from language therapy with hearing impaired children. This suggests that, for the case study described, speech-language pathology therapy contributed to the improvement of pragmatic communication abilities.

INTRODUÇÃO: A inclusão do deficiente auditivo na escola é assegurada pelo poder público no Brasil por documentos oficiais e o sistema FM é um instrumento da tecnologia assistiva que o professor deve ter acesso. OBJETIVO: traduzir e adaptar para a Língua Portuguesa o questionário FM Listening Evaluation for children. MÉTODOS: A tradução e adaptação do questionário FM Listening Evaluation incluíram a tradução para o idioma português, adaptação lingüística e revisão das equivalências gramatical e idiomática e adaptação; também foi avaliada a reprodutibilidade intra-pesquisadores. O questionário foi aplicado nos professores e na fonoaudióloga de 12 crianças de sete a treze anos deficientes auditivas, usuárias de Aparelho de Amplificação Sonora Individual e adaptadas com sistema FM. RESULTADOS: A tradução e adaptação do questionário resultaram no novo inventário:AVALIAÇÃO DO SISTEMA FM, apresentando diferença significativa entre os resultados de ruído e: via auditiva e silêncio; - distância e: via auditiva e silêncio; - via auditiva e: ruído, distância e silêncio; - silêncio e: ruído, distância e via auditiva. Houve diferença significativa sem e com o Sistema FM, sendo que neste a pontuação foi sempre maior. Na comparação intrapesquisadores evidenciou-se diferença significativa entre: pontuação total com FM; via auditiva sem FM e ruído com FM. CONCLUSÃO: O questionário Avaliação do Sistema FM foi considerado um instrumento confiável para verificação e acompanhamento dos benefícios do Sistema FM podendo favorecer assim o processo de inclusão escolar do aluno deficiente auditivo.INTRODUCTION: The inclusion of children with hearing impairments in schools is guaranteed by the Brazilian government by means of official legislation. The FM system is an assistive technology instrument to which regular teachers should have access. OBJECTIVE: To translate and adapt to Portuguese the FM Listening Evaluation questionnaire for children and assess its reliability. METHODS: The translation and adaptation to the FM Listening Evaluation included translation into Portuguese, linguistic adaptation and revision of the grammatical and idiomatic equivalences and adaptation; inter-researcher reproducibility was also evaluated. The questionnaire was administered to the teachers and speech-language pathologists of 12 children aged seven to thirteen years with hearing impairment; the children used hearing aids and had been adapted to the FM system. RESULTS: The translation and adaptation of the questionnaire resulted in new inventory: FM EVALUATION SYSTEM, presenting a significant difference between the results of noise and: hearing pathways and silence; - distance and: hearing pathways and silence; - hearing pathways and: noise, distance and silence; - silence and: noise, distance and hearing pathways. There was significant difference with and without the FM system, in which the score was always higher. Intra-examiner comparison revealed a significant difference between the total score with FM, via FM and hearing no noise with FM. CONCLUSION: The questionnaire Rating System FM was considered a reliable instrument for verifying and monitoring the benefits of FM system, in order to promote the process of educational inclusion for students with hearing impairments.

OBJETIVO: Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente para a língua portuguesa o questionário Early Listening Function (ELF), e avaliar a confiabilidade do mesmo. MÉTODOS: Foi realizada a tradução do questionário para o idioma Português, revisão das equivalências gramatical e idiomática (traduções reversas) e adaptações linguística e cultural. Além disso, foi avaliada a reprodutibilidade intra-pesquisadores. Após a tradução, o ELF foi aplicado, em ambiente silencioso e ruidoso, em 30 crianças entre zero e três anos de idade, sem histórico de risco para deficiência auditiva, ausência de queixa familiar quanto ao desenvolvimento global da criança e sem indicadores de perda auditiva incapacitante, em diferentes distâncias, em 12 situações de detecção auditiva. RESULTADOS: Os resultados foram analisados com estudo estatístico descritivo a partir da pontuação obtida no ELF. CONCLUSÃO: O instrumento ELF foi traduzido e adaptado culturalmente para a população estudada. No Português, sua denominação manteve a sigla ELF. O estudo permitiu verificar sua confiabilidade para observação e acompanhamento das etapas iniciais do comportamento auditivo.PURPOSE: To translate and adapt the Early Listening Function (ELF) questionnaire into the Brazilian Portuguese language, and to evaluate the reliability of the test. METHODS: It was carried out the translation of the ELF questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese, the review of grammatical and idiomatic equivalents (reversed translations), and linguistic and cultural adaptation. Moreover, the intra-researcher reproducibility was evaluated. After the translation, the ELF was carried out with 30 children between zero and three years old, with no history of hearing loss risk, lack of family complaint regarding the overall development of the child, and no indicators of hearing loss disability. The questionnaire was applied in 12 cases of hearing detection at different distances, in quiet and noisy environments. RESULTS: Results were analyzed using a descriptive statistical study based on the results obtained on the ELF score sheet. CONCLUSION: The ELF questionnaire was translated and culturally adapted for the studied population. In Brazilian Portuguese, its designation maintained the acronym ELF. The study verified the instrument's reliability for observing and monitoring the initial stages of hearing behavior.

ABSTRACT Objective To relate the performance of individuals with hearing loss at high frequencies in speech perception with the quality of life before and after the fitting of an open-fit hearing aid (HA). Methods The WHOQOL-BREF had been used before the fitting and 90 days after the use of HA. The Hearing in Noise Test (HINT) had been conducted in two phases: (1) at the time of fitting without an HA (situation A) and with an HA (situation B); (2) with an HA 90 days after fitting (situation C). Study Sample Thirty subjects with sensorineural hearing loss at high frequencies. Results By using an analysis of variance and the Tukey’s test comparing the three HINT situations in quiet and noisy environments, an improvement has been observed after the HA fitting. The results of the WHOQOL-BREF have showed an improvement in the quality of life after the HA fitting (paired t-test). The relationship between speech perception and quality of life before the HA fitting indicated a significant relationship between speech recognition in noisy environments and in the domain of social relations after the HA fitting (Pearson’s correlation coefficient). Conclusions The auditory stimulation has improved speech perception and the quality of life of individuals.

PURPOSE: The aim of this systematic review is to outline the main methodologies used for measuring noise in classrooms and if the noise levels found are suitable standards. METHODS: A survey of articles published in the last ten years, using six different databases. Were verified 1.088 publications and only eight studies met the inclusion criteria: (a) articles published in the last ten years, (b) articles available in full, (c) studies that have measured the noise in the classrooms of regular schools. Data analysis: descriptive analysis was performed of selected publications. RESULTS: Five studies conducted to measure the noise using a sound level meter. One measurement performed using a dosimeter and two studies used a laptop with audio recording software. In all classrooms, the noise level was higher than allowed. CONCLUSION: Classrooms are noisy environment and there is no standardization regarding the methodology that should be used to measure the noise in these places. Therefore, schools need to be guided constantly about the importance of acoustic adaptation in the classroom.

PURPOSE: Translate and adapt to Portuguese the Classroom Participation Questionnaire (CPQ) and compare the participation in regular classroom of students with hearing impairment with and without the use of frequency modulation (FM) System.METHODS: The translation and adaptation of CPQ included the translation into Portuguese, linguistic adaptation and review of grammatical and idiomatic equivalences. The questionnaire was administered to 15 children and teenagers using hearing aids (HA) and/or cochlear implant (CI), fitted with personal FM System.RESULTS: The translation of the English CPQ into the Portuguese instrument resulted in the "Questionário de participação em sala de aula" with the same number of questions as the original version; regarding linguistic adaptation, no difficulty was observed in the understanding of the items proposed in the application for students with hearing loss.CONCLUSION: The CPQ instrument was translated and culturally adapted for the Brazilian population, being named "Questionário de participação em sala de aula"in the Portuguese version. The study contributes to observation and monitoring of participation in regular classroom of students with hearing impairment using FM System. In general, students reported increased confidence and participation in the classroom with the use of FM System.

RESUMO Este estudo teve como tema avaliar o efeito do sistema de campo livre dinâmico, em um período do dia, nos sintomas vocais e na qualidade vocal de uma professora em sala de aula. Relato de caso clínico de uma professora de 44 anos, que atuava na função há 23 anos, e lecionava na mesma sala no período matutino e vespertino. A professora utilizou um sistema de amplificação em campo livre dinâmico durante um dos períodos do dia por aproximadamente três meses. Foi realizada avaliação diária da ocorrência dos sintomas no trato vocal, e da intensidade deles antes e após a aula; análise perceptivo-auditiva e acústica da voz antes e após o período de observação, e aplicação de um questionário de autopercepção sobre o uso do sistema de campo livre dinâmico, ao final do período de observação. Os dados foram analisados descritivamente e por meio do teste de Wilcoxon (p=0,05). Observou-se diminuição da intensidade do sintoma "secura" ao final da aula, e menor ocorrência de sintomas vocais com a utilização do sistema de campo livre dinâmico, além de melhora em parâmetros perceptivo-auditivos e acústicos da voz após o período de observação, e do relato de pontos positivos pela professora quanto ao uso de sistema de campo livre dinâmico. No caso estudado, o uso do sistema de campo livre dinâmico, em um dos períodos do dia, foi efetivo na diminuição dos sintomas e na melhora na qualidade vocal perceptivo-auditiva e acústica.

PURPOSE: This review aimed at presenting the benefits regarding the speech perception in noise shown by children who wear hearing aid devices and/or cochlear implants with the Frequency Modulation (FM) System at school. RESEARCH STRATEGY: A bibliographic survey was conducted in an electronic database with standardized search until the year 2012, and a manual search was performed by using specific keywords. SELECTION CRITERIA: For the selection and evaluation of the scientific studies chosen in the search, criteria were established covering the following aspects: type of study, participants, adopted intervention, and evaluation of results. DATA ANALYSIS: The FM system was verified to improve speech perception and speech threshold in noise in all studies. RESULTS: Regarding the performance as to type, the best results were obtained when children used the personal FM system, followed by the table and the sound field systems. CONCLUSION: After extensive review of national and international literature, it was concluded that the studies indicate the need for further research concerning mainly the impact of the FM system on the school performance of children who have sensory devices coupled to the FM system. Findings in the literature with relation to the publications focused on speech perception in noise did not relate educational and auditory aspects.

Purpose: To perform a systematic review of the literature on questionnaires to assess the benefits of using hearing aids in children. Methods: A literature search was conducted in the data-bases Web of Science and Virtual Health Library (BIREME). The selection criteria included: title consistent with the purpose of this review; participants necessarily being children using hearing aids; and questionnaires to assess the benefits and satisfaction. Results: More evidence was found in studies that used the scale Parent's Evaluation of Aural/Oral Performance of Children (PEACH), making it possibly the most consistent scale on the subjective evaluation of the use of amplification in children. Conclusion: There is a paucity of studies with this approach; however, the results showed the importance of researches in this area, which turns the subject into an important field of research.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar a influência do intervalo interestímulos no desempenho de crianças com deficiência auditiva de grau moderado e severo, adaptadas com aparelhos de amplificação sonora individuais (AASI), no teste PINT Brasil. Método Participaram do estudo 10 crianças com audição normal (GC) e 20 crianças com deficiência auditiva (GE). O teste PINT Brasil foi aplicado nas situações SEM pausa e COM pausa para os dois grupos. Resultados Na comparação entre as situações SEM pausa e COM pausa, houve diferença significativa apenas para o GE, indicando a SEM pausa com melhor desempenho. Nesta última condição, as oscilações ruidosas foram menores e não houve o acionamento repetido do redutor de ruído, o que possibilita a perda de informações da mensagem. Conclusão Conclui-se que o intervalo interestímulos no teste de percepção da fala PINT Brasil influenciou o desempenho das crianças com deficiência auditiva de grau moderado e severo, adaptadas com AASI. O melhor resultado foi encontrado na situação SEM PAUSA.

RESUMO Objetivo conhecer como se deu o processo de criação de políticas públicas em saúde auditiva no Brasil, bem como a influência do Poder Judiciário na concretização do acesso, pela pessoa com deficiência auditiva, ao Sistema de Frequência Modulada (Sistema FM) e para utilização em ambiente escolar. Métodos estudo qualitativo exploratório, por meio do qual foi realizado, inicialmente, um levantamento normativo nos sítios eletrônicos da Presidência da República, Câmara dos Deputados e Ministério da Saúde, visando identificar, no período compreendido entre outubro de 1988 e outubro de 2019, a existência de normas que versassem sobre a criação de políticas públicas em saúde auditiva. Foi realizado, em complemento, levantamento jurisprudencial nos sítios eletrônicos de Tribunais de Justiça, Tribunais Regionais Federais e Tribunais Superiores, visando identificar, no período compreendido entre janeiro de 2000 e outubro de 2019, a existência de decisões judiciais que versassem sobre acesso ao Sistema FM, via Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). Resultados foi possível identificar dez instrumentos normativos que tratavam, especificamente, da criação de políticas públicas em saúde auditiva, além de seis decisões judiciais, cujos méritos consistiam, propriamente, no acesso ao Sistema FM, via SUS. Conclusão o Poder Judiciário tem papel fundamental na concretização do acesso ao Sistema FM pela pessoa com deficiência auditiva, uma vez que sua atuação suprime omissões dos outros Poderes e impede que políticas públicas já concebidas contemplem restrições contrárias à Constituição Federal.
