Purpose: The authors of this study examined how four leadership teams participating in a year-long deeper learning leadership academy understood and adapted key practices for change leadership, deeper learning and equity in their PK-12 schools. Design/methodology/approach: This multiple-site case study used interviews, observations and documents to investigate how four school leadership teams developed deeper learning initiatives in their schools. Findings: This study highlights how participants recast the leadership academy's three pillars (change leadership, deeper learning and equity) as they engaged in educational reform for ambitious teaching and learning in their own contexts. Three themes emerged: transforming the culture, teaching the whole child and restructuring for collaboration. Overall, the authors found that district leaders must be fully committed to deeper learning for the culture to truly be transformed in schools under their purview. Originality/value: This article contributes to the literature on supporting school leaders to enact equity-centered deeper learning initiatives using robust professional development. It is useful for understanding key deeper learning strategies and designing future training.

Russia is a country with a high incidence of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). In northwestern regions of Russia, 110 TBE cases were registered in 2021. The largest numbers of TBE cases were registered in the Arkhangelsk region and St. Petersburg. TBEV seropositivity among healthy individuals, including the unvaccinated population in northwestern Russia, was found in 12.2% of studied samples, indicating active TBEV circulation. The prevalence of TBEV is 2.4% in the two tick species most common in northwestern regions of Russia, Ixodes ricinus and Ixodes persulcatus. However, there is still no comprehensive data on the molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the circulating TBEV strains. The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of TBEV and to identify its subtypes in ixodid ticks collected in specific areas of northwestern Russian regions. Phylogenetic analysis of E protein sequences of ten obtained strains showed that they all belong to the Siberian subtype, which were clustered into two groups: the most numerous Baltic group, clusteron 3D; and the Vasilchenko group. However, some unique isolates may form new clusterons.

Radiation therapy or radiotherapy is a medical treatment that uses high doses of ionizing radiation to eliminate cancer cells and shrink tumors. It works by targeting the DNA within the tumor cells restricting their proliferation. Radiotherapy has been used for treating cancer for more than 100 years. Along with surgery and chemotherapy, it is one of the three main and most common approaches used in cancer therapy. Nowadays, radiotherapy has become a standard treatment option for a wide range of cancers around the world, including lung, breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. Around 50% of all patients will require radiotherapy, 60% of whom are treated with curative intent. Moreover, it is commonly used for palliative treatment. Radiotherapy provides 5-year local control and overall survival benefit in 10.4% and 2.4% of all cancer patients, respectively. The highest local control benefit is reported for cervical (33%), head and neck (32%), and prostate (26%) cancers. But no benefit is observed in pancreas, ovary, liver, kidney, and colon cancers. Such relatively low efficiency is related to the development of radiation resistance, which results in cancer recurrence, metastatic dissemination, and poor prognosis. The identification of radioresistance biomarkers allows for improving the treatment outcome. These biomarkers mainly include proteins involved in metabolism and cell signaling pathways.

The ability to interact with others in socially appropriate ways is critical for functioning in the community, school, and at home. These interaction skills are considered to be a crucial component of social resiliency and are believed to be important developmental skills, particularly for children/youth with disabilities. This article discusses the prioritization process concerning the importance of specific social skills to be taught in school through the perceptions of parents, teachers, and students. This involves the participants viewing specific social skills with a focus on the importance of their usage within the contexts of home/community, school, and with peers. The collection of data from the three informant groups is discussed, and the building of consensus through the prioritization of the social skills is presented and illustrated. The resulting prioritization list of skills then determines the order of the skills to be taught through a social skills curriculum.

CAR-T therapy has revolutionized the field of oncology, offering a promising treatment option for cancer patients. However, the significant morbidity associated with therapy-related toxicity presents a major challenge to its widespread use. Despite extensive research into the underlying mechanisms of CAR-T therapy-related toxicity, there are still many unknowns. Furthermore, the lack of adequate in vitro models for assessing immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity further complicates the development of safer cellular therapies. Previously in our laboratory, we developed cancer-stroma spheres (CSS) composed of prostate adenocarcinoma PC3 cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). Herein we present evidence that multicellular CSS could serve as a valuable in vitro model for toxicity studies related to CAR-T therapy. CSS containing CD19-overexpressing PC3M cells exhibited increased secretion of CAR-T cell toxicity-associated IL-8, MCP-1, and IP-10 in the presence of anti-CD19 CAR-T cells, compared to spheres derived from single cell types.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers must rely on technology to reach and teach their students who no longer sit in school classrooms. In so doing, chasms in the quality of engagement have become evident based on students' ability, ethnicity, and home language. We propose that co-teaching between a mentor teacher and a teacher candidate could mediate opportunities for two adults to equitably instruct all students in structured and productive ways within virtual educational environments. This article describes implementation of co-teaching experiences between teacher candidates and mentor teachers through virtual instruction by using video-based conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom). We describe six co-teaching models and explain how they can support the needs of diverse learners in virtual educational environments.

There is a call for today's teachers to be globally literate as their student populations become more diverse. Immersive experiences in other countries with international colleagues and students can support the development of global literacy and culturally responsive practice. Preservice special education teachers do not often have opportunities to gain these experiences. The authors use examples of existing international collaborations in special education to illustrate a variety of ways that preservice and in-service teachers can experience international collaboration.

Educators recognize that parental participation is a critical factor in the success of children within a school setting. This is particularly true for parents who have children with disabilities or who are from a culturally or linguistically diverse background. However, reaching out to these families can be a difficult task even for the most empathetic and concerned educator. And while communicating directly with individual parents about their children's academic and social welfare provides some degree of effective engagement and communication between them and the school, the parents often remain isolated from the concerns and thoughts of other parents who are in similar situations. The Delphi process described in this article creates a collaborative workspace that moves parents from being a "watcher" of school policy or school-based decisions to a "developer" of school policy or school-based decisions. The article outlines and illustrates the steps in the process and further elaborates through an ongoing commentary depicting the creation and implementation of a Delphi with the goal of better engagement with parents.

Este ensayo examina el libro Eu sou macuxi e outras histórias de Julie Dorrico como auto-historia de sobrevivencia insertado en los estudios literarios actuales de indígenas que crecen a partir de las décadas de 1980 y 1990, propiciadas por la resistencia indígena que enfrenta el poder del Estado brasileño, más asiduamente desde la década de 1970. La ficción de Dorrico también se considera dentro del alcance tanto de la producción de fuertes tradiciones intelectuales y filosóficas indígenas actuales, cada vez más visibles, prΔesentes y empoderadas, como de sus propios artículos como investigadora y doctora en teoría literaria. El ensayo muestra que la narrativa poética de su libro toca cuestiones político-culturales vinculadas a los campos de la producción cultural y literaria brasileña, además de demostrar afinidad con metodologías teóricas de investigación indígena en el conjunto del territorio americano. Muestra que la obra intelectual de Dorrico es inseparable de la práctica de la resistencia política y, por tanto, cultural y socialmente vital para todos los pueblos originarios americanos.

African American families are multidimensional entities that change over time. This is particularly true when there is a child with a disability in the family. The communication and interaction of the family and parents with the teachers and school in which their child receives special education services are of crucial importance. The goal for all is a relationship based on equity and parity, but research indicates that often this is not the case for African American parents who have a child with a disability. Based on a review of the literature focused on African American parents with a child with a disability and their sense of alienation from their child's school, a questionnaire is presented in which parents reflect on the barriers in five categories identified in the literature (e.g., personal concerns, work concerns, lack of interest, logistical concerns, teacher/parent relationships) that may impede the development of a professional partnership with the individuals who provide special education services to their child. The questionnaire is presented and suggestions for its usage are provided.

The purpose of this article is to consider the geopolitical significance of the Arctic region, as well as the role of consulting in the implementation of strategic investment projects in the development of Arctic territories. The novelty of the work consists in updating data on the specifics of activities in the Arctic region, analyzing current associated risks and assessing the feasibility of attracting external experts to provide consulting services within the framework of project implementation. The implementation of strategic investment projects in the Arctic region has several specific aspects that lead to the emergence of various risks. For example, only Russian oil companies transport liquefied gas and oil in ice, which is an extremely complex process. Therefore, for timely identification, as well as elimination / minimization of associated risks, it is necessary to involve appropriate experts. In particular, when implementing projects in the Arctic zone, it is advisable to involve specialized consultants. The practical significance of the work is to analyze the activities of leading consulting companies and identify current trends in the development of the consulting services market in the Arctic region. During the study, the authors concluded that it is impossible to attract foreign consulting companies to implement strategic projects in the Arctic region due to the presence of political and economic risks. The article notes the need to create domestic consulting companies that have broad competencies in solving problems related to the implementation of strategic projects in the Arctic region. These prerequisites can be used to conduct further research on the topic under consideration. Thus, it is necessary to create a separate training area in Russian universities, which will be aimed at training experts with knowledge of the specifics of working in the Arctic region. For the successful implementation of long-term projects in the Arctic region, it is necessary to train highly qualified experts with a wide range of knowledge about the geopolitical, economic and natural conditions of the Arctic region, who are able to participate as external consultants in the implementation of the national strategy for the development of the Arctic and projects of various levels of complexity.

Gliomas are the most common primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors and a major cause of cancer-related mortality in children (age 39 years). Molecular pathology has helped enhance the characterization of these tumors, revealing a heterogeneous and ever more complex group of malignancies. Recent molecular analyses have led to an increased appreciation of common genomic alterations prevalent across all ages. The 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) CNS tumor classification, 5th edition (WHO CNS5) brings forward a nomenclature distinguishing “pediatric-type” and “adult-type” gliomas. The spectrum of gliomas in AYA comprises both “pediatric-like” and “adult-like” tumor entities but remains ill-defined. With fragmentation of clinical management between pediatric and adult centers, AYAs face challenges related to gaps in medical care, lower rates of enrollment in clinical trials and additional psychosocial and economic challenges. This calls for a rethinking of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, to improve access to appropriate testing and potentially beneficial treatments to patients of all ages.

This content analysis includes 210 articles that focused on addictions topics published between January 2005 and December 2014 in the journals of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and ACA member divisions. Results include the types of addictions content and behaviors studied as well as the populations and data analytic techniques used in the addictions research articles. Whereas most articles discussed addictions counseling techniques, addictions issues among non-clinical populations, and professional practice issues, fewer articles addressed clients in treatment, utilized clinical populations, or analyzed intervention outcomes. Implications for addictive behaviors and addictions counseling scholarship in professional counseling are discussed.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Mathusay Programs implemented at Bagong Nayon II Elementary School during the 2024-2025 academic year. It focused on assessing students' performance through pre-test and post-test evaluations, examining proficiency levels, and exploring the correlation between program scores and Mathematics subject performance. The findings guided the development of an intervention program to enhance the Mathusay Programs. Pre-test results revealed students were categorized into four groups: Non-Numerate, Emergent, Average Numerate, and Above Average Numerate. Lower grades (I-III) had higher percentages of non-numerate learners (6.33%) compared to upper grades (3.70%), suggesting younger students faced more challenges in basic numeracy. Emergent learners represented 34.83% in the lower grades and 22.55% in the upper grades, indicating skill improvement over time. Average Numerate students comprised the majority, with significant growth in Above Average Numerate learners from 21.12% in lower grades to 40.32% in upper grades. Post-test data showed a similar trend, with decreased non-numerate learners (5.00% in lower grades and 1.57% in upper grades) and increased proficiency among Above Average Numerate learners (22.55% to 41.70%). A significant difference between pre-test and post-test results highlighted the program's impact. Proficiency levels were generally "Proficient" in Grades 1-4 (75.35%-79.15%) but declined to "Nearly Proficient" in Grades 5-6 (65.63%-69.55%), suggesting a need for additional support. However, no significant correlation was found between Mathusay scores and overall Mathematics proficiency. We studied the development of sporocysts of the trematode Leucochloridium paradoxum. For this purpose, their life cycle was traced experimentally. Eggs obtained from adult trematodes raised in chicks (Gallus gallus domesticus) were used to infect snails (Succinea putris, laboratory strain). Histological studies of sporocysts were conducted for 95 days after exposure. During this time, the embryos of sporocysts developed into a small stolon filled with numerous metacercarial embryos. We found that miracidia hatched in the stomach and in the proximal part of the snail's midgut. After the larvae migrated into the area of the hepatopancreas, their body was destroyed, and germinal cells were released. They cleaved to form the embryos of sporocysts, in which only metacercarial embryos developed. Our study showed that these trematodes lack the parasitic phase of the mother sporocyst and have only one generation of parthenitae, the daughter sporocysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
