Aims: A study was conducted to investigate the effect of salicylic acid (SA) on garden pea grown under water deficit stress condition to discover the efficacy of foliar application of SA on physiological and biochemical characteristics of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) cv. Kashi Nandni. Study Design: With three replications, the experiment was performed in a split plot design. Place and Duration of Study: Experiment was carried out in 2019-20 at Vegetable Research Centre, JNKVV, Jabalpur (M.P.), India. Methodology: Main plots were assigned to irrigated and water deficit stress conditions, and subplots were associated to five dosages of SA (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 mM). During flowering stage, relative water content (RWC) of leaves, light transmission ratio (LTR), energy interception (EI) were recorded and total soluble solids (TSS) was detected at the time of harvest. Results: Finding of the research revealed that water deficit stress condition reduces the growth potential of plant via effecting the physiological and biochemical process of plant. The best drought protection was observed when the plant sprayed with 0.50 mM SA in RWC, light transmission %, energy interception and TSS content of garden pea. The analysis of variance shows that the effect of salicylic acid on all characteristics was significant. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, water deficit stress causes severe physiological and biochemical malfunctions in plants, resulting in a significant reduction in plant performance. Exogenous application of SA and its derivatives against abiotic stress has the potential to be very useful in agriculture and horticulture.

The evaluation of seed quality parameters in coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) under different irrigation regimes based on climatological approach and varied compositions of stress mitigating chemicals was carried out in the Laboratory of Seed Technology Research Unit, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, College of Agriculture, JNKVV Jabalpur (M.P.). The investigation consisted of four Irrigation regimes ie IW/CPE 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 and stress mitigating chemicals (Salicylic acid, thiourea and KNO3) with different concentrations. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with three replicates during Rabi season (2020-21 and 2021-22). Marked influence of applied irrigation regime was exhibited by the seed lot collected from plots with IW/CPE ratio 0.8. The maximum standard germination of 82.89% was recorded in seeds from the plants which were grown in sufficient moisture content comprising of IW/CPE 1.2. Exogenous application of salicylic acid improved the seed germination parameters. The highest concentration was most effective in each treatment. Salicylic acid @ 150 ppm expressed better results. The results depicted higher test weight with 17.80g, higher plumule length of 15.75cm, radical length of 5.61 cm, seedling height of 21.36 cm, maximum magnitude 1841.64 and 28.33 of seed vigour index I & II respectively for Jawahar Dhaniya-10 was registered when the seeds harvested from plots with treatment combination of IW/CPE 0.8 along with foliar spray of salicylic acid @ 150ppm (I2C2). Higher content of 89.57% total solids was expressed under interaction of IW/CPE 0.6 with exogenous application of thiourea @ 500ppm (I1C3). Hence it can be concluded that treatment combination of IW/CPE 0.8 along with foliar spray of salicylic acid @ 150ppm (I2C2) ascertained better seed germination and quality attributes.

We report a case of stage IV primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma in a 27-year-old young woman, who was refractory and chemoresistant to frontline conventional rituximab-based intensive chemotherapy and subsequent lines of conventional and immune checkpoint inhibitor-based therapies. She was successfully treated using a polatuzumab-based regimen and consolidated with an allogeneic haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. She developed post-transplant large granular lymphocytosis that was managed conservatively. She is now relapse-free, 600 days post-transplant. The management of this patient provided several teaching points in the use of different modalities of immunotherapies in a hard-to-treat cancer and its related conditions.

Edible films and coatings based on natural ingredients attract much interest today as an efficient, safe and ecologic approach for food products’ quality and shelf-life enhancement. Edible films and coatings protect food from mechanical and microbial damage, reduce moisture and volatiles escape, inhibit biochemical deterioration processes and improve food appearance, as well as enhance the products’ nutritional value. Advanced edible films and coatings can also serve as a matrix for the delivery of active agents such as natural antimicrobials, nutraceuticals, antibrowning agents and natural flavor and aroma compounds. For this purpose nano technology-based approaches can be exploited. The vegetables are more amenable crops for fresh-cut and minimally processed market that renders ready-to-cook produce that saves the time of today’s engaged life. The cut surface of the cut vegetables is prone to loss of weight, moisture and nutrients though packed. This review deals with the application of the edible coating to the fresh-cut and minimally-processed vegetables to serve purpose increasing shelf-life by reducing the post-harvest losses. Various methods and materials employed in the edible coating of vegetables are also discussed in this review.

Relapsed and refractory (RR) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) poses unique and difficult challenges to a practicing clinician in India where access to novel immunotherapies is limited. Between 2017 and 2020, eight patients with B-cell ALL at our center received inotuzumab ozogamicin (IO) monotherapy on compassionate access, as salvage therapy after at least two lines of conventional therapy failure, and most often as outpatient infusion. Eight patients (21–60 years, three females) received IO. Three patients had morphologic relapse and five patients reported persistent measurable residual disease (MRD). The best response on IO therapy achieved was negative MRD in six of seven patients and complete response (CR) with persistent MRD in one. One patient died (intracranial hemorrhage) before completion of first cycle. All responding patients were transplant eligible and four patients (57%) underwent allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (Allo-HCT). Median follow-up of this cohort is 9 months (4–29.6 months), four patients (57%) are alive as stable with negative MRD. No significant infusion reactions occurred during therapy. Three patients developed grades III and IV neutropenia, two patients showed grade III transaminitis, and two patients developed post-HCT severe sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS). IO is a feasible outpatient based salvage therapy to improve the remission status in RR B-cell ALL.

This case emphasizes that, with the availability of novel immunotherapy agents (Daratumumab), and repurposed use of bortezomib, a patient with HIV‐negative relapsed PBL can be treated successfully and consolidated with an allogeneic haploidentical hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) remains the most curable myeloid leukemia made feasible through effective use of two differentiating agents, all trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) with or without chemotherapy (CT). However, early morbidity and mortality remains a problem. With the objective of reducing early death a strategy of sequential induction ATO followed by consolidation ATRA in combination with CT was adopted by our group. The long-term outcomes of patient of APL treated on this sequential approach at our center was analyzed. In this retrospective analysis of prospectively maintained database consecutive adult patients with APL irrespective of their Sanz risk group were treated using a protocol of ATO (10 mg IV infusion over 3 h daily for 45 days) in the first phase followed by ATRA (45 mg/m2 for 60 days) in combination with Daunorubicin (60 mg/m2 for 3 days × 3 cycles) in second phase. All patients received maintenance ATRA (45 m/m2 for 15 days every 3 months) for a period of 18 months in phase 3. Patients were monitored for cytogenetic and molecular responses after phase 1 and 2. All patients were followed up for toxicity, event free and overall survival. 131 consecutive patients were treated in this study. At a median follow up of 60 months, 84.81% patients are alive with an overall event free survival (EFS) of 77.82%. Sanz low risk patients fared better (85%) versus intermediate and high-risk patients who had a 76% EFS. Proportion of patients alive at last follow up were 100% in Sanz low risk group and 82% in intermediate and high-risk group. The sequential schedule showed excellent tolerance and toxicity profile when treating newly diagnosed APL. The long-term follow-up data shows comparable if not better survival compared with the published real-world data and this has been consistent across all risk group.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the commonest subtype of lymphoma, standard CHOP was the treatment of choice, 42% of patients received rituximab, and 29% of patients were lost to follow-up during therapy, were reported in a study that collected retrospective data at 13 public and private hospitals for patients diagnosed with lymphoma between January 2005 and December 2009. The OncoCollect Registry was set up in 2017 to address the challenges in the collection of retrospective data through chart review, recording access to anthracycline and rituximab-based treatment, and to study outcomes and any improvement in the patient follow-up.The OncoCollect Lymphoma group registry was set up at a national level with 9 participating centers. Lymphoma patients registered at these centers between 2011 and 2017 were included. The clinical features, prognostic stratification, associated comorbidities, response to first-line treatment, and 3-year outcomes of adult patients with DLBCL were analyzed.Of the 5,886 lymphoma patients registered in the OncoCollect registry, 2,581 (44%) had DLBCL. A total of 1,961 were evaluable for frontline therapy. The median age at presentation was 57 years. Gender ratio was 1.6:1. At presentation, 43% were early stage, 70% had low and low intermediate IPI, 53% had extranodal disease, and 30.9% had one or more comorbidities (data available for 1,136 patients). The commonest extra nodal site was gastro-intestinal (23.98%) followed by head and neck (19.24%). The overall response rate was 79.29%. Complete remission was seen in 61.75%, partial response in 17.5%, stable disease in 4.3%, and progression in 7.9%. Patients who received anthracycline-based therapy (86.7%) and rituximab-based therapy (83.7%) had a 3-year event-free survival (EFS) of 69.67% and 68.48%, respectively. With a median follow-up of 33 months, the 3-year overall Survival (OS) and EFS were 75.37% and 66.58%, respectively.DLBCL remains the commonest (44%) lymphoma subtype and is curable with standard anthracycline- and rituximab-based therapies. The availability of rituximab has increased the proportion of patients receiving standard chemoimmunotherapy.

Background Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the commonest subtype of lymphoma in the elderly and poses unique challenges in this group of patients. There is a need for more information on real-world outcomes across economic disparities. Methods Electronic Medical Record of 3,087 lymphomas (>18 years) were evaluated retrospectively, of which 842 (27%) patients were ≥65 years. Two hundred and twelve patients who were ≥65 years received first line treatment for DLBCL between May 2011 and Dec 2016. Demography, clinical features, associated co-morbidities, first line treatment outcomes and hospital costs were analysed. Patients were followed up till March 2020. Results The median age at presentation was 71 years. Gender ratio was 2.5:1. 38% patients presented with early-stage disease, 37% with low and low-intermediate International prognostic index, 49% with nodal disease. One or more co-morbidities were present in 58%. The commonest extra nodal site was gastro-intestinal (29%). Two-thirds of the patients presented with non-Germinal centre B subtype. The overall response (OR) to treatment was 72.5%. Patients who received anthracycline-based therapy (n = 124) and rituximab-based therapy (n = 159) had a median progression free survival (PFS), not reached and 47.0 months, respectively, versus 10 months and 7.9 months, respectively, for patients receiving non-anthracycline and non-rituximab therapies. At a median follow-up of 24 months, the 5-year overall survival and PFS are 44% and 41%, respectively, for the entire cohort. Conclusions DLBCL is a curable lymphoma in elderly patients with standard anthracycline and rituximab-based therapies. Improvement in outcomes largely depends on social and financial support to complete the scheduled treatments.

Treating patients with diffuse large Bcell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains a challenge, with a remission rate of 75% at 2 years from diagnosis. The International Prognostic Index (IPI) [1] and molecularcharacterization [2] are employed in the stratification and relapse prediction. Additionally, 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) have now become part of standard care in differentiating metabolic activity of the disease from fibrosisor necrosis [3]. Early optimism that the speed of response to treatment, as indicated by an interim-PET (iPET) scan after 2?3 cycles of chemotherapy, might reliably predict cure has not been fulfilled [4].To investigate the role of both an interim and an end-treatment-PET (ePET) scan for the management of DLBCL in an international setting, at a time when PET centers were becoming established globally, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) sponsored a study across 7 countries in Europe, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and South America [5]. This study, the largest study to date, found that 34% of cases were iPET+ after 2 or 3 cycles of standard chemotherapy (R-CHOP), but 54% of the iPET+ cases became ePET?; and that these ?slow responders? had relatively good outcomes at 2 years (event-free survival, EFS: 86%). Notably, the study found that by combining a negative iPET scan with 2 clinical components of the IPI (normal LDH and good performance status), it was possible to identify a population, 35% of all cases, 98% of whom were disease free 2 years after diagnosis. By contrast, iPET+ cases that remained PET+ at the end of treatment had dismal outcomes. These findings raisethe important question of how to separate slow-responding iPET+ cases who are PET? at the end treatment, who are destined for good survival, from those who will fail to achieve a complete or stable remission by continuing standard therapy. e21101 Background: Systemic inflammation has been linked to incidence, progression, and poor outcomes in various cancers including non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) assays, generally used to assess cardiovascular risk, have rarely been evaluated in lung cancer studies. This study aimed to evaluate if baseline and on-treatment measurements of serum hs-CRP could provide prognostic and predictive information for patients with metastatic NSCLC treated with chemotherapy. Methods: In this single institutional prospective study 85 patients with metastatic NSCLC without targetable alterations who were treated with chemotherapy were included between 1st January 2020 and 31st December 2020, with a minimum follow-up duration of 6 months. Patients with coronary artery disease, active infections, autoimmune conditions, and chronic liver disease were excluded. Measurements of hs-CRP for all patients were done at baseline and every 12 weeks while on treatment. Patients were grouped by changes in hs-CRP levels compared to baseline levels as reduction (≥ 20% decline), and non-reduction (< 20% decline) to assess association with radiologic response and progression- free survival (PFS). Results: Pre-treatment hs-CRP values were elevated for the majority (92.9% patients with ≥ 1 mg/L, 70.6% with ≥ 3 mg/L, and 42.3% with ≥ 10 mg/dL). No significant association was detected between the pre-treatment hs-CRP value and the number of metastatic sites (P = 0.4), histology (P = 0.3), or smoking status (P = 0.7). At a median follow-up of 13.7 months, the median PFS was 7.8 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.3 - 10.3). Patients with hs-CRP ≥10 mg/L had shorter PFS than those with hs-CRP < 10 mg/L (Median PFS 7.5 months [95% CI 4.9 - 10] vs. 8.4 months [95% CI 0.1 - 17.4]; hazard ratio [HR] 1.8, 95% CI 1-3.4, P = 0.04). hs-CRP reduction (≥20% decline) after 12 weeks of treatment initiation predicted radiological response (P < 0.001). Median PFS was 14.7 months (95% CI 7.4 – 22.1) in patients who demonstrated hs-CRP reduction (≥20% decline) at 12 weeks compared to 3.1 months (95% CI 2.3 – 3.9) in patients who did not (HR 0.17, 95% CI 0.08 - 0.33, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Elevated hs-CRP at baseline was found to be a poor prognostic factor, while hs-CRP reduction by 20% or more on treatment predicted radiologic response and longer PFS in metastatic NSCLC patients treated with chemotherapy. Our findings of potential predictive and prognostic value of hs-CRP in metastatic NSCLC warrant validation in larger prospective studies.

e17010 Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a known complication in patients of testicular germ cell tumors . Early metabolic syndrome is not well-defined and literature on the same is scarce. Methods: This is a single institutional prospective cohort study of patients with testicular germ cell tumors from Jan’2020 to June 2021 with a minimum follow-up of 6 months after treatment completion. Patients were evaluated for MS as per NCEP ATP (National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Plan) III criteria and partial MS was defined if any one abnormal criteria was present. Clinicopathologic and treatment characteristics were correlated with development of MS. Results: Thirty-six (25 nonseminomatous tumor and 11 seminoma) were included with median age of 29 yrs (range: 18-44). Treatment protocol was - platinum based chemotherapy [BEP (n = 7), EP(n = 18),VIP(n = 4) ]in 81% (n = 29/36), single agent carboplatin in 8% (n = 3/36), and surveillance only in 11% (n = 4/36) patients. Incidence of complete metabolic syndrome noted in 42% (n = 15) and partial metabolic syndrome in 36% (n = 13) of patients after median follow-up of 13.2 months (range-6-22). Deranged parameters detected were - high serum triglyceride (≥150 mg/dl) in 64% (n = 23/36), low serum HDL cholesterol (< 40 mg/dl) in 53% (n = 19/36), high blood pressure (≥130/85 mm of Hg) in 47% (n = 17/36), high waist circumference (> 110 cm) in 6% (n = 2/36) and high fasting plasma glucose (≥5.6 mmol/L) in 22% (n = 8/36) of patients. Median weight gain was 5 Kg (range: 2-14). The median time to development of metabolic syndrome was 143 days (range: 90-461). Hypogonadism (testosterone < 433ng/dl.) showed positive correlation (degree of freedom = 0.3143) and C-reactive protein showed negative correlation (degree of freedom -0.3090) with MS, respectively. Conclusions: Majority of Testicular germ cell tumor patients (n = 28, 78%) had features of early MS, irrespective of treatment modalities. Patients with hypogonadism are more likely to develop early MS. Larger prospective studies are warranted to assess the incidence of early MS in patients with testicular germ cell tumors and to formulate appropriate health intervention to mitigate its significant long-term effects on mortality and morbidity.

Pests and diseases amount to an estimated 1/sixth of farm produce losses globally each year, and overall losses in attainable yield due to pest and diseases are far greater in Asia and Africa impacting smallholder farmers’ ability to feed their families. In legumes, the production is severely affected by different species of soil-borne and foliar pathogens. Comprehensive detail of the R&D conducted on biotic stresses (diseases) in legumes with special reference to emerging diseases under changing climatic condition has been discussed in this article. Brief account of current distribution, economic importance and management strategy has also been discussed. The recent biotechnological approaches such as marker-assisted selection and genetic engineering are also being touched upon for managing these stresses.

We report a case of Plasmablastic Lymphoma occurring in a 45-year-old HIV-negative woman involving extra nodal sites including ovary, breast and adrenal glands. Prognostic outcomes are generally dismal. On relapse, she received conventional as well as novel therapies and is disease free now, two years post allogenic haploidentical transplantation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruptions in multiple spheres of healthcare delivery in the world. Developing nations have had to tackle this unanticipated crisis in the midst of various other healthcare delivery issues and resource constraints. As a tertiary level cancer care provider located in an eastern Indian city, a COVID-19 hotspot, we share our experience from the perspective of haematology and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) services. The primary challenges related to infection control included infection screening and decreasing exposure among patients and healthcare workers. Logistic challenges include maintaining essential patient care services, personnel redeployment, blood bank inventory constraints and maintaining the supply chain for a continuum of care. Clinical management challenges were dealt with by rationalising treatment delivery by modification of treatment regimens, risk-based deferral of HSCT, management of COVID-19 in patients, and staggering the follow-up schedules in survivors and those on maintenance therapies, among other strategies. These challenges were compounded by the restrictions imposed by a countrywide lockdown in the initial period of the pandemic, which also affected the socio-economic aspects of treatment delivery. As a training institution, this period also impacted academics and research activities. This overview details our response to these challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has many unknowns.

Introduction There is evidence of under-representation of women in leadership roles and publications in oncology. However, there is little knowledge about their perceptions of professional environment, unique challenges and opportunities compared with male counterparts. The problem is more prominent in lower-income and middle-income countries like India and merits exploration. Materials and methods A survey, ‘Exploratory Study on the Challenges of Female Oncologists in India’, was conducted among oncology professionals. We included questions on demography, working team details, role at work, perceived challenges for advancement of career, gender-related values brought into the team and the measures for improvement of gender disparity. Lead authorship data were collected from two Indian oncology journals. Results Of the 324 respondents, 198 (61.1%) were women. Majority of the respondents were medical oncologists (46.3%), ≤45 years old (69.4%) and working in universities and corporate hospitals (71.6%). One hundred eighty-nine (58.3%) respondents worked in teams with male majority, 50 (15.4%) in women-majority teams, while 85 (26.2%) worked in teams with gender equality. Of the 324 respondents, 218 (67.3%) had men managers, while 106 (32.7%) had women managers. Men led 160 (84.7%) male-majority teams; 45 (52.9%) gender-equal teams; and 13 (26%) female-majority teams (p45 years was found to be associated with a leadership role (43% vs 25%, p=0.0012). The most significant barrier perceived for advancement of career for women was finding a work–life balance. Most respondents suggested provision of flexible training programmes to improve the disparity. Of the 558 journal publications inspected, 145 (26%) articles had a female first or corresponding author. Conclusions The study brought out the current figures regarding gender climate in oncology practice and academia across India. We identified lead thrust areas and schemes to improve the gender bias. There needs to be action at international, national and personal levels to bring about an efficient gender-neutral workforce.
