The demand for treating diseases using yoga therapy, a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatment, has increased globally. An increase in the research in this yoga area from fewer than 10 research publications per year in the 1990s to at least 20 per year after 2010 is evidence of this change in treatment needs over time. The beneficial effect of yoga therapy has been limited to practice in acute care despite its remarkable success in this domain. This is due to many factors that impact the therapy's effectiveness, irrespective of disease indications. However, the prime challenges for its effectiveness lie with the reliability of the yoga trial outcome and reporting. There is a great need to reevaluate the yoga trials' reporting for the reliability of their outcome. This study attempts to address the issue by studying challenges for presbyopia with yoga interventions. Among many indications, progressive vision loss (presbyopia), which occurs due to refractive errors in the ocular region, has scope to be treated effectively with yoga therapies. However, trials for yoga interventions for treating refractive errors have not been studied well. This study was conducted to understand the challenges in yoga therapy trials and its potential to treat presbyopia. The CLARIFY guidelines were used to understand the challenges and factors that impact effective treatment in the current research landscape. We found that trials conducted are not in compliance with the reporting guidelines. Adaptation of CLARIFY guidelines is essential to produce reliable evidence to prescribe yoga therapies to treat refractive errors.

Background: Diseases manifest differently according to gender in many medical specialties. However, sex differences in kidney diseases have not been well explored worldwide, especially in India. These differences could also be attributed to sociocultural factors. Although CKD is more prevalent in women worldwide, most men are initiated on kidney replacement therapy (KRT). This study aimed to examine sex disparities in patients on maintenance hemodialysis., Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in two maintenance hemodialysis units at the Institute of Nephrourology, a tertiary care referral government center in Bengaluru, India. Demographic characteristics and laboratory parameters were also recorded., Results: In total, 374 adult patients (aged >18 years) were included in the study. Most patients (72.7%) were men. Mean age in men was 46.95 ± 12.65 years, and women was 46.63 ± 13.66 years. There was no significant difference in marital status and the availability of caretakers between the groups. Spouses were the predominant caretakers for both sexes (64% men and 51% women, P = 0.14). Sons cared more for patients with mother than fathers (19.6% vs 8.8%, P = 0.074). Diabetic nephropathy was the most common cause of ESKD in both groups (33.1% vs 31.3%, P = 0.92). Men had a significantly longer duration of HTN and received more HD sessions per week than women. Mean hemoglobin (9.9 ± 1.79 vs 9.46 ± 1.47 g%) and mean serum creatinine (7.76 ± 2.65 vs 6.41 ± 2.27 mg/dl) were higher in men compared to women (P <0.002). Intradialytic complications, such as hypotension and cramps, were significantly more common in women than in men (P = 0.004). Most men (47.1%) were planning a kidney transplant (and were waitlisted) compared with fewer women (43%). There was no significant difference in the average number of hospitalizations per month or HD vintage., Conclusion: Women tend to initiate dialysis later, and a lesser number are waitlisted for kidney transplantation, which might be partly related to varying access to or delivery of health care services. Background: The most common surgical method of managing coronary artery disease is coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Stress, anxiety, and pain are commonly identified postoperative symptoms and are closely correlated to patient recovery., Objective: The purpose of this review was to investigate the effects of yoga interventions on anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in CABG surgery patients., Methods: and analysis: The databases PUBMED, The Cochrane CENTRAL, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science were comprehensively searched from the inception to December 2022. The quantitative research studies that evaluated the effects of yoga on anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in CABG patients were included. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Cochrane guidelines and is reported using the PRISMA checklist. The RevMan 5.4 software was used for the meta-analysis., Results: Seventeen studies met the inclusion criteria, representing 1227 patients with a mean age of 58 years. All studies have reported that yoga interventions significantly reduced anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the GRADE criteria, moderate quality of evidence was found on effects of yoga intervention in CABG surgery patients., Conclusion: Yoga has been shown to benefit patients undergoing CABG surgery. It can be used as an adjunctive intervention. The work aimed to explore the clinical hypothesis on the possible alternative to Opiorphin and its stable analogues for treating fibromyalgia pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by chronic pain triggered by an interplay of biological and psychosocial variables, although the exact pathogenesis is still controversial. Standard therapy for low threshold tender point pain includes NSAIDs and opioid analgesics, both of which have serious adverse profiles after long-term exposure, highlighting the need for an intermediate compound capable of bridging the gap between NSAIDs and opioid analgesics. Opiorphin is an anti-nociceptive modulator which inhibits the enzyme responsible for the degradation of natural endogenous opioid neuropeptides. Context: Yoga is beneficial in enhancing mental health and consequently cognitive growth. Some studies have show that yoga practice can improve cognitive functioning in children., Objective: The study intended to evaluate the effectiveness of a school-based yoga intervention on the cognitive abilities-attention and memory-of adolescents., Design: The research team conducted a one-group, pretest-posttest study., Setting: The study occurred at a rural residential school in Udupi, Karnataka, and South India., Participants: Participants were a convenience sample of 36 adolescents, with a mean age of 12.19 ± 0.4 years, in the seventh grade at the school., Intervention: A senior yoga expert prepared a structured, yoga-intervention module, which was implemented, with each session lasting one hour and occurring five days a week for 12 weeks., Outcome Measures: The Digit Span Forward (DSF) and Digit Span Backward (DSB) tests and Letter-Number Sequencing (LNS) test were used by a trained research examiner to evaluate cognition., Results: Comparing the mean DSB, total digit span score, and LNS at baseline and postintervention showed significantly higher posttest scores than pretest ones, with P = .005, P = .005, and P = .001, respectively., Conclusions: Yoga training improves cognitive functions and is a simple, low-cost, and effective adjuvant modality.

Aim: The reactions were carried out by one pot three-component synthesis, 3- cyanoacetylindole (1) on reaction with aromatic aldehydes (2) and β-naphthol (3) in an aqueous medium in the presence of L-proline as a catalyst under reflux for 30 min, resulting in (3-amino-1- phenyl-1H-benzo[f]chromen-2-yl) (1H-indol-3-yl)methanone (4). The chromene moiety is found in various natural products with interesting biological properties. Chromenes constitute the basic backbone of various types of polyphenols and are widely found in alkaloids, tocopherols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. Indoles are omnipresent in various bioactive compounds like alkaloids, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals., Objective: The objective of this study is to synthesize one-pot stepwise Green synthesis, antiinflammatory and analgesic activities of 3-amino-1-phenyl-1H-benzo[f]chromen-2-yl) (1H-indol-3- yl) methanones., Methods: The acute anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated by carrageenan-induced mice paw edema (Ma Rachchh et al., 2011). Edema was induced by injecting carrageenan (1% w/v, 0.1 ml) in the right hind paw of mice. The test compounds 1-12, indomethacin (10 mg/kg), and the vehicle were administered orally one hour before injection of carrageenan. Paw volume was measured with a digital plethysmometer at 0, 30, 60, 90, 120 min after injection. Percentage increase =A-B/ A *100., Results: Carrageenan induced paw edema model was used for anti-inflammatory activity in which animals treated with standard (indomethacin) and test compounds showed a significant decrease in the paw edema. Analgesic activity was estimated using Eddy's hot plate method; animals were treated with standard (diclofenac) and test compounds showed a significant increase in the reaction time., Conclusion: A green, one-pot, step-wise and three-component synthesis of 3-amino-1-phenyl-1Hbenzo[ f]chromen-2-yl) (1H-indol-3-yl) methanone was achieved by using water as a solvent, Lproline as catalyst under reflux conditions. The reactions were carried out in eco-friendly conditions with shorter reaction times, easier workup, and high yields. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenan-induced paw edema model, where significant anti-inflammatory activity is shown by all the test compounds 4(a-l) compared to standard drug. Object: Control signals for brain-machine interfaces may be obtained from a variety of sources, each with their own relative merits. Electrocorticography (ECoG) provides better spatial and spectral resolution than scalp electroencephalography and does not include the risks attendant upon penetration of the brain parenchyma associated with single and multiunit recordings. For these reasons, subdural electrode recordings have been proposed as useful primary or adjunctive control signals for brain-machine interfaces. The goal of the present study was to determine if 2D control signals could be decoded from ECoG., Methods: Six patients undergoing invasive monitoring for medically intractable epilepsy using subdural grid electrodes were asked to perform a motor task involving moving a joystick in 1 of 4 cardinal directions (up, down, left, or right) and a fifth condition ("trigger"). Evoked activity was synchronized to joystick movement and analyzed in the theta, alpha, beta, gamma, and high-gamma frequency bands., Results: Movement-related cortical potentials could be accurately differentiated from rest with very high accuracy (83-96%). Further distinguishing the movement direction (up, down, left, or right) could also be resolved with high accuracy (58-86%) using information only from the high-gamma range, whereas distinguishing the trigger condition from the remaining directions provided better accuracy., Conclusions: Two-dimensional control signals can be derived from ECoG. Local field potentials as measured by ECoG from subdural grids will be useful as control signals for a brain-machine interface.

An indirect immunofluorescence test (IIF) and an enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) were standardised to investigate the prevalence of bovine babesiosis caused by Babesia bigemina in experimentally and naturally infected bovids. Both IIF and ELISA detected antibodies to B. bigemina 7 days after experimental infection with 87.5% and 100% sensitivity, respectively. The IIF results indicated that a titre greater than 1:64 was a reliable indicator of B. bigemina infection. Serological study of 214 serum samples collected from Boophilus microplus infested cattle from the State of Orissa revealed 33.6% overall seroreactivity by ELISA, whereas IIF recorded 9.4%. Both IIF and ELISA showed some degree of cross-reactivity between Indian (Izatnagar) and Mexican strains of B. bigemina.

Systematic studies of psychiatric disorders in non -ulcer dyspepsia are rare. The aim of the present study was to find out the nature and prevalence of psychiatric morbidity in non-ulcer dyspepsia. Thirty three patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia and thirty with duodenal ulcer were assessed for psychiatric morbidity with the help of the regular version of the SADS, and diagnosed according to DSM-IIIR criteria. Non-ulcer dyspepsia was defined precisely and investigators who made the psychiatric diagnosis were blind to the gastroenterological diagnosis. In the non-ulcer dyspepsia group, 69.7% of patients had psychiatric morbidity, compared to 26.7% in the ulcer group. The difference between the two groups in the frequency of psychiatric morbidity was statistically significant. Dysthymic disorder (39.4%) was the most frequent psychiatric disorder in the non-ulcer dyspepsia group.

Finger prints of the Bagathas, a dominant endogamous tribal population of Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh (India) were analysed. They are distributed in Araku, Paderu and Chintapalli agency areas of Visakhapatnam district of A. P. Investigations on finger prints of 235 males and 235 females reveal that loops are higher in females (57.58 per cent) than in males (49.19 per cent). Sex differences in the distribution of the patterns are statistically significant (chi2 equal to 27.8277; d. f. equal to 2; 0.001 greater than P). The index of pattern intensity shows a higher value in males (14.17) than the females (12.84). It isevident from the mean ridge counts that there is a clear sexual dimorphism, males showing higher mean ridge counts than females. Bagathas show greater affinity with the Valmikis in the frequency distribution of pattern types and in the pattern intensity index. However, a more detailed dermatoglyphic study of all the tribes of Andhra Pradesh yields information of great value in disclosing the pattern distributions among these Dravidian or proto-Australoid tribal populations.
