6. Listing All Spanning Trees in Halin Graphs - Sequential and Parallel view

Abstract

For a connected labelled graph $G$, a {\em spanning tree} $T$ is a connected and an acyclic subgraph that spans all vertices of $G$. In this paper, we consider a classical combinatorial problem which is to list all spanning trees of $G$. A Halin graph is a graph obtained from a tree with no degree two vertices and by joining all leaves with a cycle. We present a sequential and parallel algorithm to enumerate all spanning trees in Halin graphs. Our approach enumerates without repetitions and we make use of $O((2pd)^{p})$ processors for parallel algorithmics, where $d$ and $p$ are the depth, the number of leaves, respectively, of the Halin graph. We also prove that the number of spanning trees in Halin graphs is $O((2pd)^{p})$., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

Papillion-Lefèvre Syndrome is a very rare disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance distinguished by palmar plantar hyperkeratosis and early onset of periodontitis affecting the dentition. Genetic studies have identified a mutation in the major gene locus of chromosome 11q14 with loss of function. Cathepsin C gene is to be responsible for Papillion-Lefèvre Syndrome. The present case report describes a 13-year-old female, who visited the Department of Periodontology with the chief compliant of bleeding gums and loose teeth. She presented with the signs and symptoms of Papillion-Lefèvre Syndrome. The patient had premature shedding of her deciduous dentition. On clinical examination, extraorally, the patient presented with persistent thickening, flaking, and scaling of the skin of palms and soles. Her intraoral examination revealed gingival inflammation, abscess formation, and periodontal pockets. Her intraoral radiographs showed bone loss involving the central incisors and molars. The patient underwent periodontal therapy and is under maintenance.

Abstract

ZnO nanoparticles (nps) have wide range of applications and improve the optical parameters of molecules of soft liquid crystalline (LC) materials. The present paper mainly discusses the optical studies on LC materials regarding p-n-butyloxybenzoic acid (4oba) and p-n-butylbenzoic (4ba) compound along with homogeneous dispersion of ZnO nps in lower weight concentration, i.e., 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 wt%. The existence and size of ZnO nps in LC compounds are well determined through spectroscopic techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The temperatures of LC compounds and phase transitions are determined by using polarizing optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) which is found to decrease with increasing concentration of dispersed ZnO nps. Image enhancement with visual quality matrix method is used to improve the quality of the image. Specially designed wedge-shaped modified spectrometer is used to determine the refractive indices with different wavelengths (460, 500, 570 and 635 nm). The refractive indices measured are fitted with two and three coefficient Cauchy model. Further, the order parameter S of the molecules of 4ba and 4oba with dispersed ZnO nps are determined by molecular field models namely Kuczynski, Vuks and effective geometry model, respectively. From the data, it is found that the values of birefringence (δn) and order parameter (S) of the molecules of 4oba and 4ba are enhanced with the dispersion of ZnO nps with increasing weight concentrations in the stabilized nematic thermal region. Abstract

Restorative dentistry involves use of various intracoronal and intracanal medicaments. Commonly used endodontic medicaments include paraformaldehyde, sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide. These agents are caustic and in higher and in inappropriate concentrations can cause immediate damage to the surrounding hard and/or soft tissues. Proper knowledge of such agents and careful use of such intracanal medicaments is necessary to avoid iatrogenic injuries. This report presented a case of localized alveolar bone necrosis which is an iatrogenic damage occurred because of improper use of intracanal medicaments and improper management of carious tooth structure. Subsequent management of the case is also discussed in this case report.

Abstract

We describe the clinical presentation, course and pathologic findings found in three adult patients with lipid storage myopathy. Excessive lipid storage was found in Type 1 fibers of muscle. Clinical improvement on oral levo-carnitine therapy suggests the possibility of carnitine deficiency as the most likely etiology in two of the patients and one had mitochondrial myopathy confirmed on genetic analysis. 46. Acoustic sounder application: performance of three line-of-sight microwave links situated over hilly terrains in Southern India

Abstract

An attempt is made to correlate the observed microwave fading with sodar structures. Three line-of-sight microwave links situated over hilly terrains in southern part of India are monitored around the clock for a period of one year. The acoustic sounding data recorded over Tirupati (10°39'N; 79°22& prime;E) during a period from January 1988 to December 1988 has been utilised for the present study. It has been observed that there is a severe fading in the premonsoon months. These studies show that the daytime convective conditions do not affect the microwave signal, whereas ground based inversions, elevated layers, rising inversions and wave motions are responsible for the observed fading

Abstract

The article presents case study of a 60‑year old female patient who was diagnosed with Pericallosal lipoma masquerading as venous thrombosis on magnetic resonance imaging. It mentions that plain computed tomography (CT) of brain showed a thin curvilinear fat‑containing lesion corresponding to the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesion which confirmed the diagnosis of a pericallosal lipoma. It states that computed comography scan can differentiate these lipomas from other vascular lesions.
