Giriş: İstilacı bitki türleri istila ettikleri çevrelere nektargibi yeni besin kaynakları getirerek büyük etkiler yapmaktadır. Batı Amerika’daKaliforniya’daki Santa Cruz adasında örneğin güneş çiçeği Centaureasolstitialis ada ekosisteminde balarılarını daha yüksek sayıda cezbetmekte vekendisine çekmektedir, sonucunda ise bu türün fazla sayıda tohum üretmesineneden olmaktadır. Bu çalışmada benzer durum iki farklı türde güneş çiçeği vehayıt bitkisinin ürettiği nektar miktarı ile tozlaştırıcıları kendilerinefarklı sayılarda çekip çekmediği konusu araştırılmıştır. Materyal ve Metod: Çalışma Yunanistan’ın Kuzeydoğu ege adası olan Lesvos’dagerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma da adada bulunan güneş çiçeği Centaureasolstitialis, ve hayıt bitkisi Vitex agnus-castus ve bu alanlardaki Apis cinsibalarıları ve Apis cinsi olmayan balarıları kullanılmıştır. Çalışma 3 aşamadagerçekleştirilmiştir. İlk aşamada nektar miktarı belirlenmiştir. Miktarbelirlenirken her iki türden 18 adet bitki seçilmiş ve bunlardan da 2’şerçiçekten birisi tozlayıcıların ziyaretini engellemek için bir örtü ilekapatılmıştır. Bu çiçeklerden ise saat 07:00 ile 19:00 arası her iki saatte birüretilen nektar ölçülmüştür. İkinci aşamada ise 2 farklı örnekleyici 3 saatlikaralıklarla 09:00 ile 18:00 arasında farklı alanları değişerek böcek toplamakepçesi ile bitkileri ziyarete gelen arıları örneklemişlerdir. Üçüncü aşamadaise elde edilen veriler uygun istatistiksel (t-testi, Ki-kare testi) analizleretabi tutulmuşlardır. Sonuç olarak elde edilen ziyaret örüntüsü her bir bitkiçiçeklerinden ölçülen ortalama nektar miktarı ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç ve Tartışma:İlk aşama sonucuna göre elde edilen nektar miktarı her iki farklı ölçüm içindehayıt (V. agnus-castus) bitkisinde çok daha yüksek olduğu kaydedilmiştir.Ziyaret örgüsü tespitinde ise balarılarının iki bitkiyi istatistiksel olarakanlamlı bir şekilde ziyaret ettiği bulunmuştur. Her iki türün bulunduğu komşualanlardan yapılan örneklemelerde Apis cinsi balarıların V. agnus-castus’u dahafazla ziyaret ettikleri belirlenmiştir. Ek olarak, bu zaman içerisindeörneklenen ortalama tozlaştırıcı arı büyüklüğü (kafa kapsülü genişliği ile ölçülen)V. castus-agnus’dan toplananların C. solstitialis’a göre daima büyük olduğu vebirçok durumda anlamlı bir şekilde benzer sonuçlar bulunmuştur. Bu bulunanörüntüler Amerika’nın batısında (Kaliforniya) güneş çiçeğinin doğal bir bitkiolmadığı alanlarda yapılan önceki çalışmalar ile zıtlık oluşturmaktadır. The ketogenic diet (KD) has garnered considerable attention due to its potential benefits in weight loss, health improvement, and performance enhancement. However, the phenotypic responses to KD vary widely between individuals. Skeletal muscle is a major contributor to ketone body (KB) catabolism, however, the regulation of ketolysis is not well understood. In this study, we evaluated how mTORC1 activation and a ketogenic diet modify ketone body disposal in muscle Tsc1 knockout (KO) mice, inbred A/J mice, and Diversity Outbred (DO) mice. Muscle Tsc1 KO mice demonstrated enhanced ketone body clearance. Contrary to expectations, KD feeding in A/J mice did not improve KB disposal, and in most strains disposal was reduced. Transcriptional analysis revealed reduced expression of important ketolytic genes in KD-fed A/J mice, suggesting impaired KB catabolism. Diversity Outbred (DO) mice displayed variable responses to KD, with most mice showing worsened KB disposal. Exploratory analysis on these data suggest potential correlations between KB disposal and cholesterol levels as well as weight gain on a KD. Our findings suggest that ketone body disposal may be regulated by both nutritional and genetic factors and these relationships may help explain interindividual variability in responses to ketogenic diets.

Growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF15) increases in circulation during pregnancy and has been implicated in food intake, weight loss, complications of pregnancy, and metabolic illness. We used a Gdf15 knockout mouse model ( Gdf15 -/- ) to assess the role of GDF15 in body weight regulation and food intake during pregnancy. We found that Gdf15 -/- dams consumed a similar amount of food and gained comparable weight during the course of pregnancy compared to Gdf15 +/+ dams. Insulin sensitivity on gestational day 16.5 was also similar between genotypes. In the postnatal period, litter size, and survival rates were similar between genotypes. There was a modest reduction in birth weight of Gdf15 -/- pups, but this difference was no longer evident postnatal day 3.5 to 14.5. We observed no detectable differences in milk volume production or milk fat percentage. These data suggest that GDF15 is dispensable for changes in food intake, and body weight as well as insulin sensitivity during pregnancy in a mouse model.
