MUSEUM studies , *NATIONAL museums , *SOCIAL networks , *COVID-19 pandemic , *COMMUNICATION strategies - Abstract
In the current media ecosystem, marked by hyperconnectivity and technological advances, social networks constitute windows of access to different content for a large part of the population, even more so after the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, cultural institutions such as museums develop different communicative strategies in these networks, as in TikTok, adapting to their narrative codes. This research aims to study the communicative strategies of European museums through their TikTok profiles. To this end, a methodology based on quantitative and qualitative parameters is used, based on the case study of the official accounts of the Museo del Prado and the Museo Thyssen in Madrid (Spain), The National Gallery in London (UK), the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence (Italy), analysing 1,544 videos. The results point to a disparity in the communication strategies of the museums studied. However, they coincide in the publications that refer to the masterpieces as the most popular and the option of the sound provided by the application as the type of audio mostly used. DIETARY patterns , *CONVENIENCE sampling (Statistics) , *FOOD habits , *QUALITY of life , *SOCIAL networks , *NUTRITION - Abstract
Social networks provide exposure of information, with the potential to modify behaviors. The objective of this study was to describe perceptions about food/nutrition using Instagram®. This is a cross-sectional study, with a convenience sample, consisting of women aged 20 to < 60 years. Sociodemographic variables, eating habits related to the social network and anthropometry were investigated. The main results were: 23% of participants claimed to follow nutrition/food profiles every day, 25.7% every week and 32.7% 2-3 times/month; 89.4% declared that reading these contents has already motivated them to make changes in their diet (always and/or from time to time), with the objective with the highest percentage of responses being health/quality of life (44.2%); however, the percentage that always seeks to check the veracity of information was restricted to 18,6%; 61,9% reported that recipes sporadically influenced meal preparation and 49,5% always ate meals with distractions. It is concluded that Instagram® represents an important tool for disseminating content about nutrition, with due attention to the veracity of the information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mechanical fatigue is a permanent object of study for engineers and researchers interested in the behavior of materials. The objective of this work was to formulate a new definition for mechanical fatigue. A procedure was proposed that is based on the literature review, from which a binary matrix was developed with 37 definitions of fatigue and 49 factors treated in them. With the application of the Jaccard index, another matrix was obtained that was processed in the UCINET software and with the NetDraw tool the social network of the relationships between the different factors was represented. Among the results, three groups of factors that influence fatigue and which are those factors that have greater centrality were obtained. The multiplicity of factors that influence fatigue failure was demonstrated once again. In this research, a new definition was proposed based on the three stages that occur during fatigue failure. ANIMATED films , *SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *SOCIAL networks , *COVID-19 pandemic , *INFORMATION resources - Abstract
Instagram (IG) is a tool accessible to all and is noticeable its potential for dissemination and reach of the most different audiences. Through this social network it is possible that the person who is on the other side of the screen embarks on an adventure of knowledge through the posts with information that arrive in a simple, fun and dynamic way. Within this context, an article aims to reflect on the use of IG as a resource for the scientific dissemination of the extension ist project entitled BioCine: Cinema com Ciência, initiated in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, which, throughout 2021, exhibited nine feature films and animation films that addressed biological themes, in order to promote scientific debates and disseminate science and biology contents. The IG Insights tool showed the increase in interactions in project posts and their relevance to participants, statistics analysis helped make decisions about the most appropriate scientific dissemination strategies to be used. In 2021, The BioCine Project's Instagram (IG) had 200 publications, of which 41 had relevance above 30, compared to the 203 followers of the project's profile. In the analysis of the stories, the maximum reach was 54 followers and adding up all impressions obtained a result of 1,202 views between followers and non-followers. The results show that the data made available by the IG's Insights tool collaborated in the process of scientific dissemination of the extension project, showing itself as a source of information, guiding strategies on how to publicize scientific knowledge. This text has one objective: to trace the ways in which social networks bring us closer to and further away from the construction of democracy. With a view to this, we will go through four stations: first, we will analyze the role of social networks in the assaults on democracy in recent years. Secondly, we will point out the importance of developing individuality when building a democracy. Thirdly, we will examine the relationship between democracy and pluralism of values, and we will also rescue the value of coexistence as a musket stone in said assemblage. Finally, we will outline the state of the question of social networks and the type of subject created by them today. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Worldwide, false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens) are infrequently encountered, yet long-term studies have shown strong site fidelity as well as long-term associations among individuals in several locations. Detailed studies of this species have primarily been conducted around tropical oceanic islands or in the subtropical southern hemisphere. Objectives: We assess movements and association patterns among false killer whales along the Pacific coasts of the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica including Isla del Coco, and Panama, representing one of the longest-running (albeit non-continuous) studies of this species. We also examine photos for evidence of interactions with fisheries, a known source of mortality to false killer whales. Methods: From Central America, we selected 212 individuals (50 encounter groups) out of 244 individuals (56 encounters) for inclusion in analyses based on photo quality and distinctiveness. Photos were collected on dedicated surveys from 1991-1994 and dedicated and opportunistic surveys from 1998-2022. Other than the effort off the oceanic Isla del Coco (1993-1994), surveys were undertaken in continental shelf waters. Additionally, we selected by photo quality and distinctiveness 124 (33 encounter groups) out of 189 individuals from southern California and Mexico for inclusion in these analyses. Association patterns were analyzed in SOCPROG and movements were analyzed in R. Results: Of the 328 total individuals, 158 (48.2 %) were encountered more than once, and 114 (34.8 %) were re-sighted after a year or more. The longest individual sighting history spanned 26.2 years with six re-sightings over that period between southern Costa Rica and Panama. Association and movement analyses revealed that individuals identified off southern Costa Rica and Panama linked into a single social network, with extensive movements between the two countries. Three individuals encountered off northern Costa Rica were re-sighted off northern Nicaragua, and individuals encountered off Nicaragua were encountered off Guatemala and central mainland Mexico. Nine matches were found among false killer whales between central mainland Mexico and Central America. There were no matches between the mainland coastal waters and the 33 individuals encountered around Isla del Coco. Dorsal fin disfigurements consistent with interactions with line fisheries ranged from 0 to 21 % for individuals within social clusters identified by community division. Conclusions: The infrequency of sightings combined with a high re-sighting rate of individuals and groups from the same area, suggests multiple small populations with large home ranges that include coastal waters. Small populations are sensitive to environmental changes, and as the human population grows, so do the demands on fisheries and ecotourism, which could directly impact the different populations. Additional effort in offshore areas is needed to determine the population status of false killer whales in pelagic waters, how often false killer whales using coastal waters move into pelagic waters, and the relationship between whales in the two habitats.

The global pet trade is a major risk to biodiversity and humans and has become increasingly globalized, diversified, digitalized, and extremely difficult to control. With billions of internet users posting online daily, social media could be a powerful surveillance tool. But it is unknown how reliably social media can track the global pet trade. We tested whether Instagram data predicted the geographic distribution of pet stores and the taxonomic composition of traded species in the emerging pet trade in ants (Hymenoptera, Formicidae). We visited 138 online stores selling ants as pets worldwide and recorded the species traded. We scraped ∼38,000 Instagram posts from ∼6300 users referencing ants as pets and analyzed comments on post and geolocation (available for ∼1800 users). We tested whether the number of Instagram users predicted the number of ant sellers per country and whether the species referenced as pets on Instagram matched the species offered in online stores, with a particular focus on invasive species. The location of Instagram users referencing ants as pets predicted the location of ant sellers across the globe (R2 = 0.87). Instagram data detected 439 of the 631 ant species traded in online stores (70%), including 59 of the 68 invasive species traded (87%). The number of Instagram users referencing a species was a good predictor of the number of sellers offering the species (R2 = 0.77). Overall, Instagram data provided affordable and reliable data for monitoring the emerging pet trade in ants. Easier access to these data would facilitate monitoring of the global pet trade and help implement relevant regulations in a timely manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to categorize experiences of medical fatphobia in health services in Brazil. Method: retrospective and mixed study, with a sequential exploratory approach, carried out between January 2021 and January 2022. Data were collected manually, through the advanced search tool and through the hashtag "medical fatphobia", on Twitter and Instagram, respectively. And they were analyzed through thematic analysis. Results: 476 records were found and 75 were selected. Thematic categories were: unsolicited stimulus to surgical measures for weight loss; lack of attention to patients' main complaints; psychological, verbal and/or physical violence associated with being overweight; and fatphobia as a barrier to access to health. In addition, perceptions of health consequences were reported, such as treatment abandonment, damage to mental health and consequences for maternal and child health. Conclusion: the characteristics of the reports show the underrepresentation of men in debates related to obesity, hegemony of biomedical knowledge in the face of social issues, narrowing of access to health and negative contribution to people's physical and mental health. From a communicational point of view, connective parties are based on horizontal and bidirectional structure of conversational flows between the elite of the formation and the party activists. This is possible because they delegate part of their organization to digital and online platforms. In this paper we use the Spanish party Unidas-Podemos as a case of study of connective parties. Drawing upon the Twitter response and interaction rate between Spanish representatives and citizens, this research analyzes the external communicative aspect of the main Spanish political parties during the Lockdown caused by COVID-19. The results show that the external communication patterns of Unidas-Podemos respond to vertical criteria, typical of conventional parties.

- Abstract
This article presents a diachronic investigation focused on analyzing the vernacular forms of interaction of digital communities on Twitch, through the chats of the channels of six Spanish-speaking streamers with the highest number of subscribers —illojuan, ibai, auronplay, cristinini, staryuuki and rivers_gg—. The research has followed a logic of mixed design, using the techniques of digital ethnography and web scraping. Specifically, a chat-scrapping of six streamer communities on Twitch has been carried out and a database has been created with a total of 1,650,309 messages. It is concluded that affectivity is key in the streamer-chatter/viewer relationship and is strongly mediated by the monetization of the platform. For its part, it is possible to deny the "breaking of the fourth wall", since the degree of interactivity of the chat is subject to functional limits. Regarding gender, female streamers manage to build chat environments with twice the interactivity between users than their male colleagues. Finally, it is concluded that the chat is not designed to be read, being only intelligible the echo of a massive collective conversation, spontaneously coordinated by the users united by weak links that constitute a "hive chat"., Este artigo apresenta uma investigação diacrônica focada em analisar as formas vernaculares de interação das comunidades digitais no Twitch, por meio dos chats dos canais de seis streamers de língua espanhola com maior número de assinantes —illojuan, ibai, auronplay, cristinini, staryuuki e rivers_gg —.

- Abstract
Social networks have become an ideal space for the exchange of information and knowledge. The objetive of this study was to determine the usefulness of the implementation of Instagram as a didactic tool to promote and facilitate student learning in the theoretical and laboratory courses of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics during 2022. Private Instagram accounts were created for each of the four courses. During 4 months relevant information was posted to review concepts and strengthen the teaching-learning process of the students. At the end of the courses, a survey was conducted containing the following variables: usefulness of the social network, amount of information provided, preferred place to view content (wall or stories) and whether students recommend the use of Instagram in other courses of the Department of Dentistry and Orthodontics. For the association of variables, the chi-square test was used, value of p<0.05, 95%Cl. The participation in the accounts was 222 individuals; the interaction of the students with the accounts was 87.5% with respect to the stories, 95% observed the stories completely. There was a statistically significant difference with respect to where the information was posted: stories was the preferred place for students. There were 167 students participating in the survey. All the students found very useful or useful the content of the application on the social network.100% of the respondents recommended keeping the implementation of social networks in the theoretical courses of the Department. Instagram is not only a social application but also a channel to make the teaching process more dynamic and attractive.
