Agradece-se ao Arq. Tiago Farinha pela disponibilização de dados não publicados recolhidos em 2008, em parceria com a Câmara Municipal de Palmela, e ao projeto DB-Heritage (PTDC/EPH-PAT/4684/2014) financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.. A construção em adobe é bastante comum em Portugal. Na freguesia de Pinhal Novo, situada no concelho de Palmela, estima-se a existência de mais de 200 pequenas construções habitacionais em alvenaria de adobe, todas elas datadas do início de séc. XX – as casas Caramelas. A maioria destas casas encontra-se em ruínas ou em mau estado de conservação, mas uma pequena percentagem continua a ser habitada por locais, que, ao longo dos anos, têm feito alterações para melhorar as condições de conforto das suas habitações. Apresenta-se parte de um estudo, mais abrangente, realizado numa parceria da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa com o Museu Municipal de Palmela, que tem como principal objetivo conseguir definir propostas que viabilizem a reabilitação de pelo menos algumas destas construções. Nesta comunicação apresenta-se o contexto histórico de fixação da cultura Caramela na região, as características das casas (tecnologias e materiais de construção associados, elementos construtivos e sua composição arquitetónica), com base em fontes orais e levantamentos de campo, que vão permitir uma futura caracterização do material e fundamentar propostas de intervenção. authorsversion published
