Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a promising solution to expedite various phases of the systematic review process such as screening. Objective: We aimed to assess the accuracy of an AI tool in identifying eligible references for a systematic review compared to identification by human assessors. Methods: For the case study (a systematic review of knowledge translation interventions), we used a diagnostic accuracy design and independently assessed for eligibility a set of articles (n = 300) using human raters and the AI system DistillerAI (Evidence Partners, Ottawa, Canada). We analysed a series of 64 possible confidence levels for the AI's decisions and calculated several standard parameters of diagnostic accuracy for each. Results: When set to a lower AI confidence threshold of 0.1 or greater and an upper threshold of 0.9 or lower, DistillerAI made article selection decisions very similarly to human assessors. Within this range, DistillerAI made a decision on the majority of articles (93–100%), with a sensitivity of 1.0 and specificity ranging from 0.9 to 1.0. Conclusion: DistillerAI appears to be accurate in its assessment of articles in a case study of 300 articles. Psychopathic traits are associated with impaired emotional processing. The present study examines the potential association between psychopathic traits and memory for emotional stimuli. Although a significant body of research suggests that memory is heightened for emotional stimuli, it is unclear how psychopathic traits may disrupt this process. Eighty-two male jail inmates completed an emotional memory task as well as portions of a standardised memory assessment. Psychopathic traits were not associated with the ability to freely recall images of positive, negative or neutral valence that participants had seen more than 15 min prior; psychopathic traits were also not associated with the ability to recognise these previously viewed images when shown them again. Exploratory analyses indicated trends toward reduced accuracy in recognising both positive and negative, but not neutral, emotional stimuli in individuals with higher levels of interpersonal and affective traits of psychopathy. As expected, psychopathy was unrelated to non-emotion-related memory functioning in auditory and visual domains as measured by the Wechsler Memory Scales 4th Edition. Background: Existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) use a variety of recall periods and response scales to assess CRS symptom burden. Global perspectives of CRS patients regarding optimal recall periods and response scales for CRS PROMs are unknown. Methods: This was a multi-center, cross-sectional study recruiting 461 CRS patients from sites across the United States, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, and Austria. Participants chose which CRS symptom recall period (1 day, 2 weeks, 1 month, >1 month) was most reflective of their current disease state and upon which to best base treatment recommendations (including surgery). Participants also chose which of six response scales (one visual analogue scale and five Likert scales ranging from four to eight items) was easiest to use, understand, and preferred. Results: A plurality of participants (40.0%) felt their CRS symptoms' current state was best reflected by a 1-month recall period. However, most patients (56.9%) preferred treatment recommendations to be determined by symptoms experienced over a >1 month period. The four- and five-item Likert scales were the easiest to understand (26.0% and 25.4%, respectively) and use (23.4% and 26.7%, respectively). The five-item (26.4% rating it most preferred and 70.9% rating it preferred) and four-item Likert (22.3% rating it most preferred and 56.4% rating it preferred) response scales were most preferred. Conclusion: Future PROMs for CRS should consider assessment of symptoms over a 1-month period and use a four- or five-itemLikert response scale to reflect global patient preferences. Objective: Using young adults' retrospective reports, the current study examines the moderating effects of parental differential treatment (PDT) on the association between family cohesion and sibling relationship quality during adolescence. Background: Sibling relationships in adolescence carry great implications for individual development. However, little is known about the potential interactions between family cohesion and PDT on sibling affection and hostility. Method: Retrospective data were collected from 325 young adults (M = 19.50 years, SD = 1.25) who recalled family of origin experiences with parents and a target sibling closest to their age. Results: Family cohesion was positively associated with sibling affection and negatively associated with sibling hostility. Additionally, fathers' differential control attenuated the relationship between cohesion and sibling affection and both mothers' and fathers' differential affection attenuated the relationship between cohesion and sibling hostility. Conclusion: Findings on the main effects suggest that perceived family cohesion is a crucial factor that promotes better sibling relationships (i.e., higher affection and lower hostility). However, offspring's perceptions of PDT can affect the relationship between family cohesion and sibling relationship quality, such that extreme levels of parents' (especially fathers') differential affection and control weaken the association. The significant moderation emerged with differences in parental sex (i.e., mother and father) and PDT dimensions (i.e., affection and control). Implications: To help siblings engage in more affectionate and fewer hostile interactions, parents (especially fathers) should consciously work to provide equal treatment toward their offspring and work on providing more contextual information when they have to show differentiation. RECOGNITION MEMORY IS BETTER FOR VOCAL melodies than instrumental melodies. Here we examine whether this vocal advantage extends to recall. Thirtyone violinists learned four melodies (28 notes, 16 s), two produced by voice and two by violin. Their task was to listen to each melody and then immediately sing (for vocal stimuli) or play back on violin (for violin stimuli) the melody. Recall of the melody was tested in ten consecutive trials. After a brief delay (*10 min), participants were asked to perform the four melodies from memory. Each performance was scored based on the accuracy of two measures: (1) intervals and (2) contour. The results revealed an advantage for vocal over violin melodies in immediate recall of the melodic contour and, after the delay, a reverse pattern with an advantage for violin over vocal melodies. The findings are consistent with the hypothesis that the voice facilitates learning of melodies and further show that the vocal advantage in recall is short-lived and based on contour. Thunderstorms are natural disasters that impact people, animals, and the economy. Thunderstorms' detrimental repercussions can be avoided by identifying their occurrence in advance. The current work, in this respect, uses soft computing techniques such as K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), Decision Tree (DT), Logistic Regression (LR), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) with various kernel functions to categorize the occurrence of thunderstorms over Ranchi, India. These techniques were trained and tested using two data sets: daily average and hourly meteorological datasets. The primary purpose of this study is to find which dataset-classifier combination is optimal for categorizing thunderstorm occurrence in Ranchi. No classifier was found to adequately classify either the Day Average Dataset or the Modified Day Average Dataset. On the other hand, the Hourly Dataset was found to be more balanced in terms of the number of thunderstorms that occurred than the Day Average and Modified Average datasets. The F-Score value of the incidence of thunderstorm incidents after using different classifiers was used to compare the outcomes of these datasets. The results reveal that using SVM with radial basis function. The Hourly Dataset is the best for thunderstorm day classification. For the overall and only incidence of thunderstorms classes, SVM-RBF gets 0.81 and 0.74 F-Scores, respectively. Other approaches, like grid search and Bagging, have been used to increase SVM-RBF performance. Grid search and Bagging are used on SVM-RBF to produce a hybrid Grid-Bag-SVM-RBF classifier with 82.04% accuracy and F-scores of 0.83 and 0.78 for overall and just thunderstorm occurrence, respectively. Mental context reinstatement (MCR) is a key part of the cognitive interview. However, police face challenges delivering MCR in real‐life situations. Over the years, modifications have been made to make MCR more user‐friendly for officers and ensure witness engagement. The current study evaluates the impact of vocalizing MCR generations aloud on mock‐witness's immediate and delayed recollections. Participants watched a staged multiple‐car collision and were interviewed about it the next day. Half verbalized mental images aloud (aMCR), while the other half kept them silent in their minds (cMCR). After a week, participants took part in a delayed recall attempt. No significant differences in immediate recall performance were found. During the delayed recall, participants who engaged in aMCR previously recalled significantly more and more correct details than those who received cMCR. aMCR might lead to more coherent representations in working memory, resulting in improved consolidation and better future recall. Children are interviewed to provide information about past events in various contexts (e.g., police interviews, court proceedings, therapeutic interviews). During an interview, various factors may influence the accuracy of children's responses to questions about recent events. However, behavioral research in this area is limited. Sparling et al. (2011) showed that children frequently provided inaccurate responses to questions about video clips they just watched depending on the antecedents (i.e., the way a question was asked) and consequences (i.e., the response of the interviewer to their answers). In the current study, we replicated and extended the procedures reported by Sparling et al. and found that two of five children were sensitive to the various antecedents and consequences that we manipulated. Previous research established that readers acquire accurate and inaccurate information from fiction. The current study explored factors that might moderate these effects. Participants read fictional stories that each contained three assertions. The first two assertions in each story were either correct information or implausible misinformation, allowing a manipulation of the (implicit) credibility of the narrator. The last assertion in each story was the critical one, and was correct information, implausible misinformation, or plausible misinformation. After reading, participants answered general knowledge questions that were related to the critical assertions they encountered during reading. Encountering misinformation led to lower accuracy than being presented with correct information, and being presented with plausible misinformation led to higher production of that misinformation. The narrator credibility manipulation interacted with the type of critical assertion: When the critical assertion was presented accurately in a story, credible narrators presenting true critical assertions led to greater accuracy on the general knowledge test than when noncredible narrators presented this same information. Introduction: Fecal incontinence (FI) is characterized by both irregular and unpredictable bowel symptoms. An accurate history of symptoms is important for diagnosis and guiding management. Whether a patient's history of bowel symptoms is reliable or if there is recall bias is unknown. Aim: To evaluate the accuracy of FI symptoms based on patient's recall compared with a prospective stool diary. Methods: FI (Rome IV) patients completed a bowel questionnaire that included leakage episodes and stool consistency. Subsequently they completed a one‐week FI stool diary. Agreement and correlation between historical recall and stool diary were compared. Results: One hundred patients participated. On average they reported 12 bowel movements (BMs) and five FI episodes per week. Fifty‐two percent had completed under‐graduation, 33% high school and 15% postgraduation. Using recall, 23% of patients accurately reported the number of FI episodes, whereas 41% underestimated and 36% overestimated its prevalence compared to the FI diary. Similarly, the concordance for the number of BMs was 30%, urgency was 54%, amount of stool leakage was 16%, and stool consistency was 12.5%. The concordance for nocturnal FI events, use of pads and lack of stool awareness were 63%, 75%, and 66.6% respectively. Conclusion: There is poor concordance for key bowel symptoms including the number of FI episodes as reported by FI patients, suggesting significant recall bias. Thus, historical recall of chronic FI symptoms may be less accurate. A prospective stool diary could provide more accurate information for the evaluation of FI patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Currently, most medical laboratories do not have a dedicated software for managing report recalls, and relying on traditional manual methods or laboratory information system (LIS) to record recall data is no longer sufficient to meet the quality management requirements in the large regional laboratory center. The purpose of this article was to describe the research process and preliminary evaluation results of integrating the Medical Laboratory Electronic Record System (electronic record system) laboratory report recall function into the iLab intelligent management system for quality indicators (iLab system), and to introduce the workflow and methods of laboratory report recall management in our laboratory. This study employed cluster analysis to extract commonly used recall reasons from laboratory report recall records in the electronic record system. The identified recall reasons were validated for their applicability through a survey questionnaire and then incorporated into the LIS for selecting recall reasons during report recall. The statistical functionality of the iLab system was utilized to investigate the proportion of reports using the selected recall reasons among the total number of reports, and to perform visual analysis of the recall data. Additionally, we employed P-Chart to establish quality targets and developed a "continuous improvement process" electronic flow form. The reasons for the recall of laboratory reports recorded in the electronic recording system were analyzed. After considering the opinions of medical laboratory personnel, a total of 12 recall reasons were identified, covering 73.05 % (1854/2538) of the recalled laboratory reports. After removing data of mass spectra lab with significant anomalies, the coverage rate increased to 82.66 % (1849/2237). The iLab system can generate six types of statistical graphs based on user needs, including statistical time, specialty labs (or divisions), test items, reviewers, reasons for report recalls, and distribution of the recall frequency of 0–24 h reports. The control upper limit of the recall rate of P-Chart based on laboratory reports can provide quality targets suitable for each professional group at the current stage. Setting the five stages of continuous process improvement reasonably and rigorously can effectively achieve the goal of quality enhancement. The enhanced iLab system enhances the intelligence and sustainable improvement capability of the recall management of laboratory reports, thus improving the efficiency of the recall management process and reducing the workload of laboratory personnel. Previous research on incidental memory in everyday settings has shown that frequent exposure to stimuli does not guarantee accurate representation in memory. In two studies, we explored the memory and metamemory of car brand logos using recall (drawing) and recognition tasks (Study 1) or a naming task (Study 2). The results showed that memory accuracy for logos was modest in the recall and recognition tasks; nevertheless, the participants' accuracy in naming the visually displayed car logos was almost perfect. The participants showed overconfidence in their ability to recall and recognize car logos prior to their performance, which was adjusted after completing the recall task. Overconfidence was absent in the naming tasks. These results replicate the modest visual memory and metacognitive adjustments in recall and recognition tasks found in previous studies and contrast with participants' better memory performance and metacognitive adjustments in the naming task. Data mining is one of the emerging technologies used in many applications such as Market analysis and Machine learning. Temporal data mining is used to get a clear knowledge about current trend and to predict the upcoming future. The rudimentary challenge in introducing a data mining procedure is, processing time and memory consumption are highly increasing while trying to improve the accuracy, precision or recall. As well as, while trying to reduce the processing time or memory consumption, accuracy, precision and recall values are reducing significantly. So, for improving the performance of the system and to preserve the memory and processing time, Three-Dimensional Fuzzy FP-Tree (TDFFPT) is proposed for Temporal data mining. Three functional modules namely, Three-Dimensional Temporal data FP-Tree (TTDFPT), Fuzzy Logic based Temporal Data Tree Analyzer (FTDTA) and Temporal Data Frequent Itemset Miner (TDFIM) are integrated in the proposed method. This algorithm scans the database and generates frequent patterns as per the business need. Every time a client purchases a new item, it gets stored in the recent database layer instead of rescanning the entire records which are placed in the old layer. The results obtained shows that the performance of the proposed model is more efficient than that of the existing algorithm in terms of overall accuracy, processing time, reduction in the memory utilization, and the number of databases scans. This article reports on four experiments aiming to examine immediate post-sentential recall of core sentence information (conveyed by direct objects), and optional/additional information (conveyed by temporal or locative adjuncts). Participants read simple and unambiguous Czech sentences such as Starší důchodce velmi pečlivě pročetl noviny v neděli v knihovně : "An older retiree read the newspaper very carefully on Sunday in the library." Sentences always appeared as a whole after pressing a space bar. Immediately after the sentence disappeared, an open-ended (free response) question was presented targeting either the direct object (e.g., newspaper), temporal adjunct (e.g., on Sunday), or locative adjunct (e.g., in the library). Altogether, it was found that the core information (conveyed by the direct object) was recalled almost perfectly, whereas additional information, conveyed by temporal and locative adjuncts, was recalled with significantly lower accuracy rates. Information structure also played a role: if the temporal or locative adjunct was focused, it was recalled better than if it was unfocused. The present article thus shows systematic differences in recall success for different pieces of information. These findings suggest the presence of selective attention mechanisms during early stages of sentence processing. Factors such as syntactic function or information structure influence the degree of attention to different pieces of information conveyed by a sentence. In recent years, deep convolutional networks (DCNN) have gained popularity for different classification (or recognition) tasks. In this paper, three well known DCNN structures were used, i.e., AlexNet, SqueezeNet and GoogLeNet, and their classification performances in recognizing handwritten Bangla isolated characters were compared. These networks have simpler structures compared to the recent DCNNs. Experiments on a standard Bangla database revealed that the overall performance of GoogLeNet is slightly better than the other two networks. Further analysis using saliency maps of the test samples revealed the important features that are learned by the networks for classifying characters. The accuracy of the recall of the severity of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) with Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) questionnaire has been questioned. We aimed to compare PUQE scores of women recalling the worst episode of NVP of their current pregnancy in different gestational weeks (gwks). Total of 2343 pregnant women (gwks 7–40) were recruited. Four groups were formed according to the gwks at reply: ≤16 gwks (n = 554), ≤20 gwks (n = 1209), >20 gwks (n = 1134) and ≥24 gwks (n = 495). PUQE scores were similar between the groups. Consequently, consistency of PUQE scores across the groups endorses the useability of the PUQE questionnaire in retrospective assessment of the overall severity of NVP in different gwks, regardless of passing of the peak NVP symptoms. What is already known on this subject? Retrospective evaluation of the severity of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) has been argued to be disposed to recall bias. Structured Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) questionnaire is a validated tool for assessing the severity of NVP. What do the results of this study add? When the women recalled the most severe NVP symptoms of their current pregnancy, no differences in the PUQE scores were found despite different gestational weeks at reply. Of distinct PUQE questions, women answering in early pregnancy reported longer duration of nausea than women answering in late pregnancy, but other questions were rated similarly. What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Our aim was to compare the PUQE scores between the women who filled in the PUQE questionnaire in early or in late pregnancy, instructed to recall their worst symptoms in their current pregnancy. As there were no differences between the groups in total PUQE scores, our results support the application of PUQE questionnaire to assess the severity of NVP during pregnancy not only concurrent to the peak symptoms but also retrospectively. The aim of this study is to compare substance use by forensic patients who have been formally recalled to hospital with those who remain conditionally discharged in the community. Data were collected from recalled patients (recalled group; RG) and those who remain conditionally discharged (discharged group; DG). A drug history was taken alongside wellbeing measures and screening of case notes. Cannabis use was significantly more prevalent in the RG post-discharge and subsequently in the community. Analysis comparing substance use in the community at different time points found that the DG was significantly less likely to be using cannabis post-discharge and subsequently in the community, compared to use at the time of their index offence. In contrast, the RG showed no change in cannabis use across time. Users of cannabis and alcohol post-discharge spent a significantly shorter amount of time in the community than non-users. Prompt diagnostics and appropriate cancer therapy necessitate the use of gene expression databases. The integration of analytical methods can enhance detection precision by capturing intricate patterns and subtle connections in the data. This study proposes a diagnostic-integrated approach combining Empirical Bayes Harmonization (EBS), Jensen–Shannon Divergence (JSD), deep learning, and contour mathematics for cancer detection using gene expression data. EBS preprocesses the gene expression data, while JSD measures the distributional differences between cancerous and non-cancerous samples, providing invaluable insights into gene expression patterns. Deep learning (DL) models are employed for automatic deep feature extraction and to discern complex patterns from the data. Contour mathematics is applied to visualize decision boundaries and regions in the high-dimensional feature space. JSD imparts significant information to the deep learning model, directing it to concentrate on pertinent features associated with cancerous samples. Contour visualization elucidates the model's decision-making process, bolstering interpretability. The amalgamation of JSD, deep learning, and contour mathematics in gene expression dataset analysis diagnostics presents a promising pathway for precise cancer detection. This method taps into the prowess of deep learning for feature extraction while employing JSD to pinpoint distributional differences and contour mathematics for visual elucidation. In June 2021, HVAD System distribution ceased due to observational data demonstrating increased mortality and neurological events compared to another commercial device, and a device malfunction with delay or failure to restart, especially in certain subpopulations. To assess ongoing risk for patients on support following subsequent device recalls, the manufacturer's Intermacs HVAD System 2022 Quarterly Reports were queried to identify mortality and adverse events trends in a contemporary cohort of 3110 primary HVAD implantations since October 2017, stratified by year-of-implant. Mean duration of support was 21 ± 16 months, with 33% alive on original device, 25% transplanted, 6% undergoing device exchange, 4% recovered, and 32% expired. Kaplan–Meier and event-per-patient-year estimates for survival, freedom from device explant, stroke, and pump thrombus were similar across year-of-implant. Following market withdrawal and recent device recalls, there appears to be no increase in mortality, stroke, pump thrombus, or explant for HVAD-supported patients. > Context • Reliably differentiating between memories of events that happened and those that did not (commonly referred to as "false memories" in the literature) is essential for both personal and societal well-being, yet studies increasingly show that this is nearly impossible to achieve. > Problem • Significant support for this conclusion comes from the research using the Deese-Roediger-McDermott (DRM) paradigm, which has been limited in terms of behavioral and phenomenological measures employed, particularly concerning recall memory (as opposed to recognition memory). > Method • We used a combination of disciplined first-person methodology and behavioral measures to explore the process of recall in the DRM paradigm. Participants were interrupted during word recall and underwent phenomenological interviews about their recall processes. Reaction times and performance accuracy were measured for each recalled word. > Results • We identified a diverse selection of categories pertaining to the phenomenology of recall, describing the mechanisms of attention, structural and processual characteristics, mood and motivation, and other experiences indirectly related to recall. These categories were used to construct the phenomenological indicators of accurate and inaccurate recall. The most coherent accurate recall indicators were related to the experience of strong certainty or the emergence of a word matching the critical lure during encoding as a word that should be avoided during recall. The most coherent inaccurate recall indicators were linked to a deliberate, inferential type of recall or an automatic and fluid recall. In modern medicine, medical tests are used for various purposes including diagnosis, disease screening, prognosis, and risk prediction. To quantify the performance of the binary medical test, we often use sensitivity, specificity, and negative and positive predictive values as measures. Additionally, the F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score, which is defined as the harmonic mean of precision (positive predictive value) and recall (sensitivity), has come to be used in the medical field due to its favorable characteristics. The F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score has been extended for multi‐class classification, and two types of F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐scores have been proposed for multi‐class classification: a micro‐averaged F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score and a macro‐averaged F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score. The micro‐averaged F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score pools per‐sample classifications across classes and then calculates the overall F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score, whereas the macro‐averaged F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐score computes an arithmetic mean of the F1$$ {F}_1 $$‐scores for each class. Background: Antidepressants have been proposed to act via their influence on emotional processing. We investigated the effect of discontinuing maintenance antidepressant treatment on positive and negative self-referential recall and the association between self-referential recall and risk of relapse. Methods: The ANTLER trial was a large (N = 478) pragmatic double-blind trial investigating the clinical effectiveness of long-term antidepressant treatment for preventing relapse in primary care patients. Participants were randomised to continue their maintenance antidepressants or discontinue via a taper to placebo. We analysed memory for positive and negative personality descriptors, assessed at baseline, 12- and 52-week follow-up. Results: The recall task was completed by 437 participants. There was no evidence of an effect of discontinuation on self-referential recall at 12 [positive recall ratio 1.00, 95% CI (0.90–1.11), p = 0.93; negative recall ratio 1.00 (0.87–1.14), p = 0.87] or 52 weeks [positive recall ratio 1.03 (0.91–1.17), p = 0.62; negative recall ratio 1.00 (0.86–1.15), p = 0.96; ratios larger than one indicate higher recall in the discontinuation group], and no evidence of an association between recall at baseline or 12 weeks and later relapse [baseline, positive hazard ratio (HR) 1.02 (0.93–1.12), p = 0.74; negative HR 1.01 (0.90–1.13), p = 0.87; 12 weeks, positive HR 0.99 (0.89–1.09), p = 0.81; negative HR 0.98 (0.84–1.14), p = 0.78; ratios larger than one indicate a higher frequency of relapse in those with higher recall]. Experiments comparing intuitive and reflective decisions provide insights into the cognitive foundations of human behavior. However, the relative strengths and weaknesses of the frequently used experimental techniques for activating intuition and reflection remain unknown. In a large-scale preregistered online experiment (N = 3667), we compared the effects of eight reflection, six intuition, and two within-subjects manipulations on actual and self-reported measures of cognitive performance. Compared to the overall control, the long debiasing training was the most effective technique for increasing actual reflection scores, and the emotion induction was the most effective technique for increasing actual intuition scores. In contrast, the reason and the intuition recall, the reason induction, and the brief time delay conditions failed to achieve the intended effects. We recommend using the debiasing training, the decision justification, or the monetary incentives technique to activate reflection, and the emotion induction, the cognitive load, or the time pressure technique to activate intuition. Purpose: Free recall tasks target cognitive and linguistic processes such as episodic memory, lexical access, and retrieval. Consequently, the free recall paradigm is suitable for assessing memory deterioration caused by aging, which can be influenced by stimulus presentation modality. Hence, the present study aimed to determine if aging has an effect on visual and auditory recall abilities. Materials and Methods: Twenty young adults (mean age: 25.4 ± 0.99) and older adults (mean age: 63.3 ± 3.51) participated in the study. Participants performed a free recall task under two conditions - related and unrelated and two modalities - visual and auditory where they were instructed to recall as many items as possible with no specific order and time limit. Results: Free recall performance was calculated as the mean number of correctly recalled items. Although younger participants recalled a higher number of items, the performance across conditions and modality was variable. Guided by the fostering relationships function of patient-centered communication (PCC), the present study utilized a 2 (high/low nonverbal immediacy) x 2 (high/low verbal immediacy) between-subjects experimental design to determine whether physician verbal and nonverbal immediacy influenced participant liking for physician, motivation to process a health message, and recall of the health message. An actor physician delivered a 3–4 minute video-recorded message, diagnosing U.S. adult participants, serving as analogue patients, with a health issue. The results indicated main effects for physician verbal immediacy and nonverbal immediacy on participant liking for physician and motivation such that participants had greater liking for the physician and motivation to do what the physician requested when the physician demonstrated greater verbal and nonverbal immediacy. However, physician verbal and nonverbal immediacy did not influence participantsʻ recall. Physicians should consider displaying verbal and nonverbal immediacy to create a positive impression among patients, and to motivate patients to take steps to improve their health. We describe a rare food contamination of organically grown frozen green beans with Solanum nigrum, also called black night shade, which were widely available in supermarkets in the Netherlands. To our knowledge, only three adults and one child were referred to the emergency department for observation after eating the contaminated green beans. Only minor symptoms were seen during observation. The remainder of the frozen green beans were obtained from the patients and sent for analysis within one day. Within two and a half days after the first case, a public safety warning and recall were launched. Due to an increase in popularity of organic food, more incidents involving toxic weed contaminants like the one we describe in this report could happen when quality control in organic agriculture is insufficient. In this event, the critical control point obtained from the hazard analysis was insufficiently managed by the producer. This report demonstrates the efficient collaboration between the Dutch Poisons Information Centre, treating physicians at the hospital and the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority in case of a possible public safety issue. Abstract In traditional digital filing systems, people mostly use text as a key to categorise images, and retrieve them in the future. The use of other media as keys for image retrieval is rarely used, notwithstanding that multisensory digital media – mulsemedia – can be harnessed to improve users’ performance and help them to retrieve their images. In this respect, olfactory media (engaging the sense of smell) is an example, as people can categorise their images by using congruent olfactory media. Accordingly, we investigated the impact of employing olfactory media as a key for retrieving a set of images. Moreover, we also studied the impact of the usage of olfactory media in this context on a user’s performance and Quality of Experience (QoE). To this end, we developed an olfactory-enhanced application (SCENT2IMAGE) in which olfactory media was emitted alongside a 5X5 matrix of images, of which users had to recognize 4 images congruent with the emitted scents. Furthermore, we developed a word-only version of the application (WORD2IMAGE) in which words alone were used as an equivalent key instead of olfactory media. Forty-four participants were invited and took part in our experiment, evenly split into a control and experimental group. Results highlight that using olfactory media does have a significant impact on user performance by helping them find related images. Moreover, using olfactory effects in this context was also found to enhance user QoE. Background: Many medicine quality problems are detected after they arrive at health facilities. Thus, critically defective medicines that may pose health risks to patients need to be withheld or recalled. Aims: To investigate the withheld and recalled medicines in relation to the types of defects, their total numbers, therapeutic categories, pharmaceutical dosage forms, and country of manufacturer during the study period. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on withheld and recalled medicines published on the publicly available National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) official website in Sri Lanka between June 2018 and August 2021. Details on substandard medicines (SM) were extracted and documented. Each record of SM was individually reviewed to determine the type of defect, subsequent action taken by NMRA, therapeutic category, pharmaceutical dosage form, and country of manufacturer. Results: A total of 163 defects were identified in 143 defective medicines, among which the most common types of defects were contamination (n = 59, 36.2%), stability defects (n = 41, 25.2%), packaging and labelling defects (n = 27, 16.6%) and active pharmaceutical ingredient defects (n = 26, 15.9%). Out of 143 total defective medicines identified, anti-infectives accounted for 41.9%, while parenteral preparations (44.0%) were found to be frequently defective. Nearly 70% of the recalled and withheld medicines were of Indian origin, and some manufacturers were identified to be repeatedly involved. Conclusions: This study revealed that contamination was the most frequent cause of defective medicines, while parenteral preparations and anti-infectives were the most susceptible pharmaceutical dosage form and therapeutic category found to be substandard, respectively. In addition, the findings show that some manufacturers were accountable for repetitive withholdings and recalls, which reflects the ignorance of quality control measures and weak regulatory inspections as a violation of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). We investigated indexical variation as a variable that promotes second language (L2) vocabulary learning across language modalities. In three experiments, we presented Catalan Sign Language signs (Experiments 1a and 1b), pseudowords (Experiment 2), and English words (Experiment 3) to participants in three conditions that varied in the number of people who introduced these stimuli (one, three, or six people). We evaluated learning outcomes in two recall tasks: a picture‐to‐L2 naming task and a L2‐to‐L1 translation task. For the sign modality, indexical variation benefitted the immediate recall of signs in the translation task (Experiment 1a) and delayed recall after two weeks in the picture naming task (Experiment 1b). For the oral modality, we observed no effect when participants learned pseudowords (Experiment 2), but variability benefited recall in the translation task when participants learned English words (Experiment 3). We discuss these contrastive results, considering the influence of indexical variation in adult L2 sign and oral vocabulary learning. In reward-based learning and value-directed remembering, many different value structures for the to-be-remembered information have been used by researchers. I was interested in whether different scoring structures used in a value-directed remembering task impact measures of memory selectivity. Participants studied lists of words paired with point values and some lists included words paired with values ranging from 1 to 20, 1 to 10 (repeating twice), either a high value (10 points) or a low value (1 point), and either a high value (10 points), a medium value (5 points) or a low value (1 point). Results suggest that (1) in tests of free recall, if using a continuous value scale, the range of values matters in terms of selective memory, (2) analysing the selectivity index can yield different results than modelling item-level recall using point values (and the latter may be a preferable approach), (3) measures of selectivity using different value structures may lack construct validity when testing memory via recognition tests, and (4) the effect of value on memory is much larger on recall than recognition tests. Instructional videos are increasingly employed in a physical education domain in order to enhance motor learning and self-motivational beliefs. However, evidence showed that videos are generally ineffective because they often create extraneous loads due to the information transience and passive processing of information. The current study investigates the effects of controlling the display of video on learning outcomes – expressed in terms of recall and transfer scores – and situational interest in physical education settings. 60 tenth-grade students (Mage = 15.90 years, SDage = 1.32 months; 30 boys and 30 girls) were instructed to study using either a continuous video (presented without pauses), a system-controlled video using predefined segments or a self-controlled video where the learner uses 'stop' and 'play' keys. Then, they were asked to perform the learning tests (i.e. game comprehension test and game performance test) and evaluate the situational interest of the learning materials (i.e. attention demand, challenge, exploration intention, instant enjoyment, novelty). The results from one-way ANOVAs revealed that students performed significantly better on both recall and transfer post-tests when the video was either system-controlled or self-controlled, which suggested that studying a controlled video could decrease irrelevant cognitive load and so yield better learning performances. Concerning the situational interest variable, students in the self-controlled condition scored significantly higher on almost all dimensions of situational interest. This study indicates that self-controlled video, as applied in this study, can be integrated in a physical education context to foster learning and enhance situational interest. A large body of research in the study of memory has accumulated to date on the part-list cuing impairment in recall. This phenomenon refers to the lower recall of studied information in the presence of some studied words provided as retrieval cues compared to when no cues are provided. We review the current literature on the part-list cuing impairment in recall and report a meta-analysis utilizing the procedural and statistical information obtained from 109 samples (N = 5,605). In each experiment, participants studied a list of words and subsequently performed a recall task either in the presence or absence of part-list cues. The meta-analysis shows that the part-list cuing impairment is a robust, medium-sized impairment (Cohen, 1988). This recall impairment was not significantly sensitive to the number of study items provided, the relationship among study items, the number of part-list cues provided, the amount of time provided for recall, or certain other factors of interest. Our analyses also demonstrate that longer retention periods between study and retrieval mitigate the part-list cuing impairment in recall. We discuss the implications of meta-analysis results for elements of experimental design, the findings of past literature, as well as the underlying theoretical mechanisms proposed to account for this impairment in recall and the applied consequences of this recall impairment. Fingerprints are widely used as effective personal authentication systems, because they constitute unique, robust, and risk-free evidence. Fingerprinting techniques refer to biometric procedures used for identifying individuals based on their physical characteristics. A fingerprint image contains ridges and valleys forming a directionally-oriented pattern. The robustness of the fingerprint authentication technique determines the quality of the fingerprint image. This study proposed an intelligent 12-layered Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model using Deep learning (DL) for gender determination based on fingerprints. Further, the study compared the performance of this model to existing state-of-the-art methods. The primary goal of this study was to reduce the number of comparisons within a large database obtained from automatic fingerprint recognition systems. The classification process was found to be swifter and more accurate when analysis of the DL algorithm was performed. With reference to the criteria of precision, recall, and accuracy evaluation during classification, this proposed 12-layered CNN model outperformed the Residual Neural Network with 50 Layers (ResNet-50) and Dense Convolutional Network with 201 Layers (DenseNet-201) models. The accuracies obtained were 97.0%, 95.8%, 98.0%, and 96.8% for female-left, female-right, male-left, and male-right classes respectively, while achieving an overall accuracy of 94.0%. Background Studies examining the potential impact of mothers' health during pregnancy on the health of their offspring often rely on self-reported information gathered several years later. To assess the validity of this approach, we analysed data from a national case–control study of childhood cancer (diagnosed <15 years) that collected health information from both interviews and medical records. Methods Mothers' interview reports of infections and medications in pregnancy were compared with primary care records. Taking clinical diagnoses and prescriptions as the reference, sensitivity and specificity of maternal recall along with kappa coefficients of agreement were calculated. Differences in the odd ratios estimated using logistic regression for each information source were assessed using the proportional change in the odds ratio (OR). Results Mothers of 1624 cases and 2524 controls were interviewed ∼6 years (range 0–18 years) after their child's birth. Most drugs and infections were underreported; in general practitioner records, antibiotic prescriptions were nearly three times higher and infections >40% higher. Decreasing with increasing time since pregnancy, sensitivity was ⩽40% for most infections and all drugs except 'anti-epileptics and barbiturates' (sensitivity 80% among controls). ORs associated with individual drug/disease categories that were based on self-reported data varied from 26% lower to 26% higher than those based on medical records; reporting differences between mothers of cases and controls were not systematically in the same direction. Conclusions The findings highlight the scale of under-reporting and poor validity of questionnaire-based studies conducted several years after pregnancy. Populism is deeply embedded in a democratic society, and a thin ideology composed of many different concepts affects people's attitudes toward political elites and their vote choices. Based on voters' populist inclination, this paper analyzes the voting in the recall of the mayor and the by-election of Kaohsiung City in 2020. In the two different voting periods, the voters' populist inclination was affected by their demographic background and political attitudes. This study uses two sets of data to analyze the voting for the recall and the byelection. One is "A Voting Study of Kaohsiung City's Third Mayoral Recall" hosted by Tsai Chia-hung and conducted by the National Chengchi University's Election Study Center, and the other is "Taiwan's Election and Democratization Study, 2020-2024(I): Kaohsiung City Mayor By-Elections: Telephone Interview hosted by Chen Luhui" conducted by the National Chengchi University's Election Study Center. We found that during the recall period, populism was affected by the age and education of the voters. During the by-election period, the populist inclination was affected by voters' party identity, Taiwanese/Chinese identity, education and occupation. In addition, the populist inclination of Kaohsiung voters did not affect their decision to vote for recall. Their satisfaction with Han Guo-yu was the main reason for voters to vote for the recall and in the by-election, voters with lower populist inclination voted for Chen Chi-mai, but it did not influence voters to vote for Li Mei-jhen. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of taking Mind Lab Pro, a plant‐based nootropic on memory in a group of healthy adults. Auditory, visual, visual working memory, immediate and delayed recall (DR) were assessed. Methods: The study employed a pseudo randomised, double blinded, placebo‐controlled design. A total of 49 healthy individuals completed the study with 36 in the experimental group and 13 in the control group. Participants ranged between 20 and 68 years with a mean age of 31.4 ± 14.4 years. Pre and post taking either the Mind Lab Pro supplement or placebo for 30 days. All participants completed the Wechsler Memory Scale Fourth UK Edition (WSM‐IV UK). Results: We found that the experimental group significantly improved in all memory subtests assessed (p < 0.05) whilst the control group only significantly improved in auditory memory and immediate recall (p = 0.004 and p = 0.014 respectively). A significant difference in immediate and DR was also found between the control and experimental group (p = 0.005 and 0.034 respectively). Conclusion: The use of Mind Lab Pro for 4 weeks improves memory with the experimental group significantly improving in all sub areas of memory as assessed by the WSM‐IV UK. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Retrieval-induced forgetting (RIF) is typically observed in verbal memory tasks, although a few studies have observed RIF in visual spatial tasks. This leaves an open question as to whether RIF depends on semantic identity to link across semantic properties of objects, or whether RIF depends on access to the perceptual features of objects. To explore RIF of spatial positions, we report three experiments utilizing a continuous measure of the accessibility and precision for objects that were distinguished by their shape, color, and spatial region. After a study phase, half of the objects in a single-color category were selectively practiced for their spatial position, by requiring the object to be placed in the exact spatial position seen previously. Finally, all objects were probed for their spatial position at test. No RIF occurred for objects that shared only one color feature but were located within the same spatial region (in Experiment 1) or when objects shared the same color, but were located within different spatial regions (in Experiment 3). However, RIF did occur when objects shared the same spatial region and the same color (Experiment 2). Overall, the interim recall of the spatial positions of cue-objects impairs access to the position of other cue-objects within the same color category, but only when these groups had sufficient overlapping and competing features. The finding that RIF only occurs to the accessibility of spatial positions, not the precision of visual spatial memory, was interpreted as consistent with inhibitory theories of forgetting. Constructive episodic retrieval processes play an adaptive role in supporting divergent thinking (i.e., creatively combining diverse bits of information) and means-end problem solving (i.e., generating steps to solve a social problem). However, the constructive nature of episodic memory that supports these adaptive functions also leads to memory error. In three experiments we aimed to identify a direct link between divergent thinking and means-end problem solving – as assessed in the Alternative Uses Task (AUT) and Means-End Problem Solving (MEPS) task – with the generation of false memories in the Deese-Roediger-McDermott paradigm. In Experiment 1, we replicated prior findings where false memory was positively correlated with performance on the AUT, and also showed for the first time that increased performance in the MEPS task is associated with increased false recall. In Experiment 2, we demonstrated that the link between false recall and performance on the MEPS task did not extend to other forms of problem solving, as assessed with the Everyday Descriptions Task (EDT). In Experiment 3, we showed that when the EDT was preceded by the MEPS task in an attempt to influence participants to engage in a similar episodic-problem solving strategy, performance in both tasks was correlated with false memory. These findings provide evidence for a direct link between the adaptive benefits of constructive episodic processes, in the form of enhanced divergent creative thinking and problem solving, and costs, in the form of increased memory error. People receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) endure long phases of therapy and immobility, which diminish their physical activity (PA) level leading to physical deconditioning. One of the reasons is a lack of clarity on the part of those who work in oncology clinical settings of their role in assessing, advising, and referring patients to exercise. Therefore, our study investigates reported physical activity counseling behavior of health care professionals (HCPs) and the patient perspective on this topic. Physicians (N = 52), nurses (N = 52) physical therapists (N = 26), and patients receiving HSCT (N = 62) participated in a nationwide cross-sectional online-survey. Patients' preferred source of information concerning PA was determined. We examined HCPs self-assessed PA counseling behavior and patients' PA recall by assessing the use of the 5As (Ask, Advice, Agree, Assist, Arrange). Analysis of survey responses was descriptive. Univariate multinomial logistic regression examined whether sociodemographic factors and patient characteristics influence the response behavior. Physicians and PA specialists were patients' preferred source of information regarding PA. A large discrepancy between HCPs' perception and the degree to which HSCT patients recall advice became apparent; profound counseling steps like making referrals were less often recalled in our patient sample. Inactive patients reported to receive less basic PA counseling by physicians. Future research should identify the requirements to increase patients' recall concerning PA counseling in the setting of HSCT. Panoramic views offer information on heading direction and on location to visually navigating animals. This review covers the properties of panoramic views and the information they provide to navigating animals, irrespective of image representation. Heading direction can be retrieved by alignment matching between memorized and currently experienced views, and a gradient descent in image differences can lead back to the location at which a view was memorized (positional image matching). Central place foraging insects, such as ants, bees and wasps, conduct distinctly choreographed learning walks and learning flights upon first leaving their nest that are likely to be designed to systematically collect scene memories tagged with information provided by path integration on the direction of and the distance to the nest. Equally, traveling along routes, ants have been shown to engage in scanning movements, in particular when routes are unfamiliar, again suggesting a systematic process of acquiring and comparing views. The review discusses what we know and do not know about how view memories are represented in the brain of insects, how they are acquired and how they are subsequently used for traveling along routes and for pinpointing places. Human health issues require estimation of heart rhythm anomalies, brain wave pattern abnormalities, blood parameter outliers, social media analysis, and more. Researchers propose many deep learning models to estimate these issues, and each uses neural optimizations to classify input parameters into disease types. But most of the existing models are either highly complex, or are not capable of capturing multiple body parameters, in order to perform comprehensive disease diagnosis. To overcome the challenges of feature representation and classification, this text proposes design of a high-density feature representation model for multidomain analysis of human health issues. The proposed model collects patient-specific datasets from multidomain sources like blood reports, electrocardiograms (ECGs), electroencephalograms (EEGs), social media posts, and physiological parameters to generate comprehensive health feature vectors. Fourier, Wavelet, Convolutional, and Gabor components transform vectors into multimodal feature sets. Representing the input vector into these components improves feature density, which helps identify multiple disease types. Bee Colony Optimization Models estimate high-variance feature sets using these features. A 1D CNN Model classifies these sets to help identify disease classes. The model performed well in accuracy, precision, recall, and AUC (area under the curve) tests for heart, brain, and psychological issues, making it suitable for clinical use. Background: The emotion of fear bears a survival significance enabling animals to be highly vigilant in contexts of uncertainty. Expectedly, not all information available in the environment can be processed. Given that a major goal is to get rid of the source of fear in a fearful situation, the current study therefore hypothesized that information relating to the fear source would be better attended to and recalled than contextual information, which was validated by comparing participants' recall of different types of information presented in a fearful VR gaming context. Methodology: Fifty-four participants were divided into two groups and finished a specific segment of a VR game with different fear levels. Results: No significant difference in recall performance on the questions about the appearance of the fear source and the questions about the interaction with the source was observed between the fear and less-fear groups. Yet, contextual information was better recalled than information related to the fear source in both groups. Regardless of whether the contextual information was provided beforehand or not, participants still tended to focus primarily on the environment in the gameplay. Also, the immersiveness of the gameplay was positively related to participants' fear level. Discussion: The tendency of attending to contextual information was speculated to be unconditional, in line with the risk calculation observed in prey when situated in less familiar contexts. It was suggested to further validate the present primarily findings by adopting VR headset with eye-tracking function in future studies. Inception, VGG19, and MobileNet, together with their federated variations, are among the models being examined. The study includes a detailed evaluation, parameter analysis, and training information. VGG19 stands out as a particularly noteworthy high performance, with remarkable accuracy, precision, and recall. Due to its lightweight design, MobileNet performs less well, but its potential is enhanced by the addition of federated learning. The accuracy and precision of federated versions of Inception, VGG19, MobileNet, and a Lightweight MobileNet model are competitive, with FL-Lightweight MobileNet achieving outstanding results. There are multiple distinct sources through which numerous news contents that occur in digital medium tend to converge. Web contents constitute massive number of features. Complete coverage of all kinds of news is absolutely vital to retain customer confidence and to have a competitive edge over other news agencies. Aggregating such massive news content from different heterogeneous sources requires an integration of convergent computing. Classification of these online news is a challenging task in the age of Internet where news keeps flowing from several heterogeneous sources. Due to constant rise in manipulation of web contents, accurate classification of digital news is the need of the hour. Precise detection of specific news into their respective class is a major challenge in recent times. In this scenario, the need of an automated predictive-based approach can be of great use in effective organization and classification of news in a pool of web portals. This research study comprises the application of Bernoulli model to determine the effectiveness of multi-class digital news categorization that arrive in real time. The system model presented in this analysis was evaluated using python, and the result was demonstrated using six distinct classes of news with a 6000 feature size dataset from TagMyNews dataset. The classification accuracy using the Bernoulli model was computed to be 98.4%, while the evaluated precision metric was 92.7%, and recall value was 90.6%. The F-Score metric generated an optimum value of 91.4%. The execution time for Bernoulli model was only 12 s. The computed result using Bernoulli model was compared with some other related renowned existing works and the results generated by Bernoulli model gave optimum performance and the news classification efficiency is highly enhanced. Object recognition memory (ORM) allows identification of previously encountered items and is therefore crucial for remembering episodic information. In rodents, reactivation during recall in the presence of a novel object destabilizes ORM and initiates a Zif268 and protein synthesis-dependent reconsolidation process in the hippocampus that links the memory of this object to the reactivated recognition trace. Hippocampal NMDA receptors (NMDARs) modulate Zif268 expression and protein synthesis and regulate memory stability but their possible involvement in the ORM destabilization/reconsolidation cycle has yet to be analyzed in detail. We found that, in adult male Wistar rats, intra dorsal-CA1 administration of the non-subunit selective NMDAR antagonist AP5, or of the GluN2A subunit-containing NMDAR antagonist TCN201, 5 min after an ORM reactivation session in the presence of a novel object carried out 24 h post-training impaired retention 24 h later. In contrast, pre-reactivation administration of the GluN2B subunit-containing NMDAR antagonist RO25–6981 had no effect on ORM recall or retention but impeded the amnesia caused by Zif268 silencing and protein synthesis inhibition in dorsal CA1. Our results indicate that GluN2B-containing hippocampal NMDARs are necessary for ORM destabilization whereas GluN2A-containing NMDARs are involved in ORM reconsolidation, and suggest that modulation of the relative activity of these receptor subtypes during recall regulates ORM persistence. Background: The ability to accurately recall specific reproductive health events is an integral aspect of medical decision making and evaluating a female's overall health and wellness across their lifespan. The Health and Reproductive Survey (HeRS) was developed to recall reproductive events and environmental influences on reproductive characteristics throughout the lifespan of a female. This study aimed to determine how reliably women recall certain events during menarche and early reproductive years. It was hypothesized that age at menarche, hormonal contraceptive use, and physical activity would be recalled reliably among all age ranges, while the recall reliability for cycle regularity and length would be more inconsistent with advancing age. Materials and Methods: A total of 144 participants (age: 32.73 ± 11.92), completed the HeRS on two occasions spaced 4 months apart to investigate recall reliability. Cohen's kappa coefficient was used to assess the consistency of categorical responses and 95% limits of agreement were used for continuous data. Results: Although physical activity changes had greater variability than anticipated (0.79), the recall reliability among the youngest (1) and oldest (0.89) age groups was high, and females were able to consistently recall the age of menarche (0.83), physical activity level (0.9), cessation of period during early reproductive years (0.91), and birth control use following menarche (0.85) and during the early reproductive years (0.9). Conclusions: The HeRS is a useful tool for reliably recalling reproductive history and physical activity participation across multiple age ranges and can be utilized to gather crucial information throughout the reproductive lifespan. Recently, Panama wilt disease that attacks banana leaves has caused enormous economic losses to farmers. Early detection of this disease and necessary preventive measures can avoid economic damage. This paper proposes an improved method to predict Panama wilt disease based on symptoms using an agro deep learning algorithm. The proposed deep learning model for detecting Panama wilts disease is essential because it can help accurately identify infected plants in a timely manner. It can be instrumental in large-scale agricultural operations where Panama wilts disease could spread quickly and cause significant crop loss. Additionally, deep learning models can be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and help farmers make informed decisions about how to manage the disease best. This method is designed to predict the severity of the disease and its consequences based on the arrangement of color and shape changes in banana leaves. • Orthopaedic trauma patient recall of basic elements of injury and treatment course is poor, and likely impacts adherence to the postoperative care plan. • Overall, only 64% of questions regarding details of injury and treatment recommendations were answered correctly. • Only 66% of patients reported adherence to weightbearing and DVT prophylaxis recommendations. Orthopedic trauma patients may have poor recall of their injuries and treatment. This may lead to poor adherence to instructions. The purposes of this project were to quantify recall about injury and treatment information, and to assess adherence to postoperative instructions and satisfaction with care. A prospective cohort of 110 consecutive adult orthopaedic trauma patients treated for acute injury at a Level 1 trauma center were included. All had undergone surgical treatment of fractures of the pelvis or lower extremity. A brief survey to assess patient recall about injury and treatment knowledge, adherence to weightbearing and DVT recommendations and to evaluate patient satisfaction was administered during the first post-hospital clinic visit. Patients correctly answered 64% of recall-oriented questions. 82% and 83% of patients, respectively, reported adherence to their weightbearing restrictions and their DVT prophylaxis regimen, while 66% of patients reported adherence to both. Forty-two percent of non-adherent patients could not remember their weightbearing restrictions, while 78% of non-adherent patients could not remember their DVT prophylaxis regimen. Average patient satisfaction was 4.3 (range 1–5), with 15% of patients indicating neutral sentiment or dissatisfaction with their care. Orthopaedic trauma patients have poor recall, which likely reduces postoperative adherence and may impair patient satisfaction. Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of people sent to prison for a sexual offence, yet there is a lack of research exploring the experiences of those with sexual convictions within the prison system, and the factors that help or hinder their progression towards release. This research aimed to explore the experiences of individuals with sexual convictions who have progressed to an open prison but have been recalled back to a closed prison. The research took a qualitative approach, undertaking semi-structured interviews with 10 individuals who had moved back to a closed prison. Thematic analysis was used, eliciting two main themes. First, failure was the only option, relays how participants felt they were bound to fail at open conditions, largely due to a lack of information which meant they did not know what to expect, and a lack of support upon arrival. They also felt stigmatised because of their convictions. A different world centres around participants reporting entering into an unfamiliar environment in open conditions, leaving them unsettled. It also describes the difficulties participants had adjusting to the freedom of open conditions but also the delays they experienced. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.
