2‐Bromo‐1‐(3,3‐dinitroazetidin‐1‐yl)ethan‐1‐on (RRx‐001) ist ein Chemotherapeutikum für sauerstoffarme Tumore und zeigte bereits Synergieeffekte in Kombination mit Strahlentherapie. Die Wechselwirkung des Moleküls mit niederenergetischen Sekundärelektronen, die in großer Zahl in der physikalisch‐chemischen Phase der Bestrahlung gebildet werden, könnten für diesen Synergieeffekt verantwortlich sein. Die vorliegende Studie konzentriert sich auf die ersten Schritte in der Wechselwirkung von RRx‐001 mit niederenergetischen Elektronen, in denen das temporäre negative Ion gebildet wird und rasch fragmentiert. Die Kombination von Resultaten zweier Versuchsaufbauten erlaubt es uns, den Zerfall des RRx‐001 Anions auf verschiedenen Zeitskalen zu entflechten. Die alleinige Anwesenheit des eingefangenen Elektrons führt zu einer raschen Abspaltung von NO2 und HNO2, während NO2− und Br− Anionen direkt beziehungsweise über andere Zwischenprodukte gebildet werden. Auf Basis quantenchemischer Rechnungen schlagen wir einen bidirektionalen Wechsel zwischen π*(NO2) und σ*(C−Br) Zuständen vor, welcher die experimentellen Spektren erklärt. Die Synthese von bicyclischen Gerüsten hat jüngst großes Interesse erregt, da diese als gesättigte Bioisostere von Benzoiden eine wichtige Rolle in der modernen Wirkstoffforschung spielen. In dieser Arbeit berichten wir über eine BF3‐katalysierte [2π+2σ]‐Cycloaddition von Aldehyden mit Bicyclo[1.1.0]butanen (BCBs), um polysubstituierte 2‐Oxabicyclo[2.1.1]hexane zu synthetisieren. Zu diesem Zweck wurde ein neuartiges BCB entwickelt, das eine Acylpyrazolgruppe enthält, die nicht nur die Reaktionen erheblich erleichtert, sondern auch als Ansatzpunkt für verschiedene nachfolgende Transformationen dienen kann. Darüber hinaus können auch Aryl‐ und Vinylepoxide als Substrate verwendet werden, die nach der in situ‐Umlagerung zu Aldehyden eine Cycloaddition mit BCBs durchlaufen. Das Erfassen der Struktur von Zytochrom‐P450‐Enzymen in flagranti ist für die Entwicklung von P450‐Biokatalysatoren von entscheidender Bedeutung, da die meisten der bisher erfassten Strukturen in einer präkatalytischen Konformation gefangen sind. Das Herzstück der P450‐Katalyse ist Verbindung I (Vbd I), ein kurzlebiges, hochreaktives Zwischenprodukt, dessen widerspenstige Art die Mehrheit der Versuche vereitelt hat, katalytisch bedeutsame Konformationen von P450 zu erfassen. Wir zeigen die Kristallstruktur von P450BM3, die den Zustand genau im Momente vor der Epoxidierung nachahmt, der mit den experimentell ermittelten Stereoselektivitäten perfekt übereinstimmt. Die Kristallisation wurde durch Bindung des stabilen Vbd‐I‐Analogons Oxomolybdänmesoporphyrin IX an P450BM3 in Gegenwart Styrols erreicht. Die relative Ausrichtung Styrols zur Molybdän‐Sauerstoff‐Spezies in den Kristallstrukturen wirft ein Licht auf die Dynamik, die an der Drehung Styrols beteiligt ist, um seine Vinylgruppe Vbd I darzubieten. α‐Aminosäurederivate sind Kernbestandteile jeglichen Lebens. Die Synthese von α‐Aminocarbonyl/carboxyl Verbindungen ist jedoch weiterhin eine Herausforderung für die organische Synthese. In dieser Arbeit berichten wir von einer praktischen Herstellungsmethode für α‐Aminosäurederivate durch direkte hydrative Aminierung von aktivierten Alkinen mit Sulfinamiden unter milden Bedingungen. Anionische Koordinationspolymerisationen verlaufen über hochreaktive Zwischenstufen, deren in situ‐Analyse schwierig bleibt. Hier zeigen wir, dass Elektrosprayionisations‐Massenspektrometrie eine vielversprechende Methode ist, um detaillierte Informationen über den Polymerisationsprozess zu erhalten. Für die durch CoCl2/RLi (R=Me, nBu, tBu, Ph) initiierte Polymerisation von 1,3‐Dienen initiiert beobachten wir die wachsenden Ketten direkt und charakterisieren die aktiven Cobalt‐Zentren durch Fragmentierungsexperimente in der Gasphase. Darauf basierend schlagen wir einen möglichen Mechanismus für die Polymerisation vor. Die ESI‐Massenspektren erlauben zudem die Bestimmung der Molmassenverteilung, welche mit denen aus NMR‐Messungen und MALDI‐Massenspektrometrie gut übereinstimmen, und liefern eine Vielzahl an kinetischen Daten. Die Kristallstrukturen der Cattleyen‐Synthase (apo‐CyS) und der mit Geranylgeranylpyrophosphat (GGPP) komplexierten CyS wurden gelöst. Die CySC59A‐Variante zeigte eine erhöhte Produktion von Cattleyen und weiteren Diterpenen mit unterschiedlichen Skeletten. Ihre Struktur zeigte ein vergrößertes aktives Zentrum, was die relaxierte Selektivität erklärt. Der so genannte SCILL‐Katalysator (englisch: solid catalyst with ionic liquid layer) beschreibt ein neues, äußerst erfolgreiches Konzept im Bereich der heterogenen Katalyse. Hierbei besteht die Grundidee darin, die Selektivität eines Katalysators durch die Beladung mit ionischen Flüssigkeiten drastisch zu erhöhen. In dieser Arbeit zeigen wir, dass das Konzept auf die Elektrokatalyse übertragbar ist und zur selektiven Umsetzung von organischen Verbindungen genutzt werden kann. Bei der hier untersuchten Elektrooxidation von 2,3‐Butandiol können zwei Produkte entstehen. Das einfach oxidierte Acetoin und das zweifach oxidierte Diacetyl. Durch die Zugabe einer ionischen Flüssigkeit (1‐Ethyl‐3‐methyl‐imidazolium‐trifluormethansulfonat, [C2C1Im][OTf]) kann die Selektivität des Katalysators zu Gunsten der Acetoinbildung drastisch erhöht werden. Der zugrundeliegende Mechanismus wurde dabei spektroskopisch in situ untersucht: Die Adsorption des Anions der ionischen Flüssigkeit verhindert die Wasseraktivierung. Dies unterbindet den zweiten Oxidationsschritt vom Acetoin zum Diacetyl und erhöht damit die Selektivität. Die selektive C‐F‐Bindungsfunktionalisierung von Perfluoralkyl‐Einheiten birgt ein großes Potenzial für den Zugang zu funktionalisierten fluororganischen Verbindungen, stellt jedoch aufgrund der hohen C‐F‐Bindungsstärke und den damit verbundenen Selektivitätsproblemen eine Herausforderung dar. Wir berichten über einen neuen katalytischen Ansatz zur selektiven Funktionalisierung der starken C‐F‐Bindungen in polyfluorierten aliphatischen Estern und Amiden. Diese einfache Reaktion verläuft mild und operativ und mit divergenten Umsetzungen, einschließlich Hydrodefluorierung, Defluoralkylierung und Defluoralkenylierung, die eine Vielzahl von wichtigen teilfluorierten Motiven liefern. Wir berichten über eine effiziente und breit anwendbare Palladium‐katalysierte Iodierung günstiger und leicht verfügbarer Aryl‐ und Vinylcarbonsäuren durch In‐situ‐Aktivierung zum Säurechlorid und Bildung eines Phosphoniumsalzes. Die Verwendung von 1‐Iodbutan als Iodidquelle in Kombination mit einer Base und einem Desoxychlorierungsreagenz eröffnet den Zugang zu einer Vielzahl von Aryl‐ und Vinyliodiden unter Pd/Xantphos‐Katalyse, einschließlich komplexer arzneimittelähnlicher Strukturen. Stöchiometrische Experimente und kinetische Analysen legen einen einzigartigen Mechanismus nahe, welcher die reduktive C‐P‐Eliminierung zur Bildung des Xantphos‐Phosphoniumchlorids beinhaltet, welches anschließend einen ungewöhnlichen Halogenaustausch durch nukleophile Substitution initiiert. Kürzlich wurden Palladium‐Katalysatoren entdeckt, die eine nicht‐dirigierte C‐H‐Aktivierung von Arenen ermöglichen, ohne dass ein Überschuss des Aren‐Substrats erforderlich ist, sodass Methoden entwickelt werden konnten, die die Modifikation fortgeschrittener Syntheseintermediate ermöglichen. Der Schlüssel zum Erfolg war die Verwendung zweier komplementärer Liganden, einer N‐Acylaminosäure und eines N‐Heterozyklus. Detaillierte experimentelle und computergestützte mechanistische Studien zur mittels zweier kooperativer Liganden ermöglichten C‐H‐Aktivierung von Arenen haben uns zur Identifizierung der katalytisch aktiven Spezies und eines Übergangszustandsmodells geführt, das die außergewöhnliche Aktivität und Selektivität dieser Katalysatoren erklärt. Wir berichten über die Synthese, Strukturen, Koordinationseigenschaften und den Reaktionsmechanismus der Bildung von Siliciumanalogen der Kronenether. Durch Reaktion von 2D2 (I; 2Dn=(Me4Si2O)n) mit GaI3 und MIx (M=Li, Na, Mg, Ca, Sr) kann eine Oligomerisierung dieser Spezies beobachtet werden. In diesen Reaktionen dienen die Metallkationen als Template, und die Anionen (I−/[GaI4]−) sind erforderlich als nukleophile Reaktionspartner. Im Falle von MIx=LiI wird der Komplex [Li(2D3)GaI4] (1) erhalten. Im Falle von MIx=NaI, MgI2, CaI2 und SrI2, entstehen Komplexe der allgemeinen Formel [M(2D4)(GaI4)x] (M=Mg2+ (3), Ca2+ (4), Sr2+ (5)). Des Weiteren wurde die protonierte Verbindung [H(2D3)][Ga2I7] (6) isoliert und charakterisiert. Alle Komplexe wurden mittels Multikern‐NMR‐Spektroskopie, DOSY‐Experimenten und (außer für 3) per Einkristallstrukturanalyse charakterisiert. Quantenchemische Rechnungen wurden durchgeführt, um die Koordinationsfähigkeiten dieser Liganden näher zu beleuchten und den Mechanismus der Oligomerisierungsreaktionen zu untersuchen. Phosphoren – das Einzelschichtmaterial des Elementallotrops schwarzer Phosphor (Pblack) – und SnIP sind 2D‐ und 1D‐Halbleiter und können beide über sehr ähnliche Synthesewege, mithilfe von Gasphasentransportreaktion und Mineralisation, aus amorphem rotem Phosphor und Sn/Sn(IV)‐iodid hergestellt werden. Der Top‐down‐Ansatz über Pblack ist heutzutage der wichtigste Zugangsweg zu Phosphoren. Die beiden Reaktionswege unterscheiden sich hauptsächlich in der Reaktionstemperatur und den Stoffmengenverhältnissen der Reaktanten. Bei der Top‐down‐Synthese von Phosphoren aus schwarzem Phosphor wird über mögliche Intermediate oder Nebenphasen (z. B. Hittorfscher Phosphor oder ein Sn24P19.3I8‐Clathrat) spekuliert. Die Bedeutung P‐basierter 2D‐ und 1D‐Materialien für Energiekonvertierung, ‐speicherung und Katalyse inspirierte uns, den Bildungsmechanismus dieser beiden Stoffe genauer zu untersuchen. Lithium‐reiche Schicht‐Kathodenmaterialien finden wegen ihrer hohen theoretischen spezifischen Kapazität (320–350 mA h g−1) großes Interesse. Schlechte Zyklenstabilität und träge Reaktionskinetik behindern aber ihre Anwendung. Nachdem sich die Wissenschaft lange von diesem Thema abgewendet hat, dürften nun wegen der starken Abhängigkeit von Hochenergie‐Li‐Ionenbatterien Forschung und Entwicklung im Bereich geschichteter Li‐reicher Kathodenmaterialien wieder stark zunehmen. In diesem Kurzaufsatz berichten wir über den Stand des Wissens zu Strukturanalyse und Reaktionsmechanismen speziell von Mangan‐basierten geschichteten Li‐reichen Kathodenmaterialen. Wir fassen dabei die Kationen‐Redoxreaktionen der Übergangsmetallionen und die Anionen‐Redoxreaktionen von Sauerstoffspezies detailliert zusammen. The use of concepts for mechanistic problem solving in organic chemistry is one of the greatest challenges for learners. Basic concepts can be found in many organic‐chemical reactions and thus offer great potential for networking the different learning content. The stabilization of reactive intermediates plays a major role in the discussion of reaction processes and reaction rates. In order to promote networking of conceptual knowledge, we have developed two competition experiments as contrasting cases, in which the influence of the effects of resonance and hyperconjugation can be closely examined by learners using simple qualitative measurements. For this purpose, the course of the SN1 reaction of tert‐butyl chloride or triphenylmethyl chloride with ethanol is monitored on the basis of conductance measurements and conclusions about the stabilization of the reactive intermediates are drawn from very different rates of formation of ions. Rolf Huisgen hat vor 60 Jahren das Konzept der 1,3‐dipolaren Cycloaddition vorgestellt und dabei bis dahin unbekannte reaktive Zwischenstufen, wie z. B. Azomethinylide, in die organische Chemie eingeführt. Danach entwickelten sich die (3+2)‐Cycloadditionen von 1,3‐Dipolen an Mehrfachbindungssysteme (Huisgen‐Reaktion) zu einer der vielseitigsten Synthesemethoden in der Heterocyclenchemie. In diesem Aufsatz gehen wir auf die geschichtliche Entwicklung dieses Arbeitsgebietes ein, führen die relevanten Vorläuferarbeiten auf und schildern das Entstehen des Konzeptes und seine Weiterentwicklung. Die wichtigsten mechanistischen und präparativen Befunde werden diskutiert. Quantenmechanische Berechnungen stützen den von R. Huisgen immer favorisierten konzertierten Reaktionsmechanismus, aber in Extremfällen können auch Zwischenstufen durchlaufen werden. Um die Bedeutung dieses großen Wissenschaftlers für die Entwicklung der Organischen Chemie in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Rolf Huisgen hat, wie nur wenige andere, die traditionelle, beschreibende Arbeitsweise der Organischen Chemie mit der modernen Mechanismen-basierten Methodik verbunden und in den sieben Jahrzehnten seines wissenschaftlichen Schaffens die Organische Chemie maßgeblich mitgeprägt. Experimente mit selektiver 15N‐Markierung bestätigen den nucleophilen Angriff von Azid auf Iminium‐aktivierte, organische Azide, der zu kurzlebigen Hexazenintermediaten führt. Solche Spezies neigen nicht nur zu einer Spaltungsreaktion unter Erzeugung von N‐Azidoverbindungen, sondern gehen auch einen Ringschluss unter Bildung beispielloser Amidino‐funktionalisierter Pentazole ein. Daher liefert die Einwirkung von zwei Äquivalenten an Natriumazid auf die Stammverbindung der Vilsmeier‐Reagenzien ein Aminopentazolderivat als Hauptprodukt, das leicht mithilfe der NMR‐Spektroskopie zu charakterisieren ist. A three‐component Pd‐catalyzed coupling of ynamides, aryl diazonium salts, and aryl boronic acids for the synthesis of novel triaryl‐substituted enamides is described. This transformation represents the first example of an umpolung regioselective unsymmetrical syn‐1,2‐diarylation/aryl‐olefination of ynamides. The aryl moieties of the diazonium salt (electrophile) and boronic acid (nucleophile) are explicitly incorporated in the electrophilic α‐ and nucleophilic β‐position, respectively, of the ynamide, resulting in a single isomer of the N‐bearing tetrasubstituted olefin. The scope is broad (68 examples), showing excellent functional‐group tolerance. DFT calculations substantiate the rationale of the mechanistic cycle and the regioselectivity. The development of photocatalytic reactions has provided many novel opportunities to expand the scope of synthetic organic chemistry. In parallel with progress towards uncovering new reactivity, there is consensus that efforts focused on providing detailed mechanistic insight in order to uncover underlying excited‐state reactions are essential to maximise formation of desired products. With this in mind, we have investigated the recently reported sensitization‐initiated electron transfer (SenI‐ET) reaction for the C−H arylation of activated aryl halides. Using a variety of techniques, and in particular nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, we are able to distinguish several characteristic signals from the excited‐state species involved in the reaction, and subsequent kinetic analysis under various conditions has facilitated a detailed insight into the likely reaction mechanism. A chiral aluminum complex controlled, enantioselective nickel‐catalyzed domino reaction of aryl nitriles and alkynes proceeding by C−CN bond activation was developed. The reaction provides various indenes, bearing chiral all‐carbon quaternary centers, under mild reaction conditions in yields of 32 to 91 % and ee values within the 73–98 % range. N‐alkylisonitrile, a precursor to isonitrile‐containing lipopeptides, is biosynthesized by decarboxylation‐assisted ‐N≡C group (isonitrile) formation by using N‐alkylglycine as the substrate. This reaction is catalyzed by iron(II) and 2‐oxoglutarate (Fe/2OG) dependent enzymes. Distinct from typical oxygenation or halogenation reactions catalyzed by this class of enzymes, installation of the isonitrile group represents a novel reaction type for Fe/2OG enzymes that involves a four‐electron oxidative process. Reported here is a plausible mechanism of three Fe/2OG enzymes, Sav607, ScoE and SfaA, which catalyze isonitrile formation. The X‐ray structures of iron‐loaded ScoE in complex with its substrate and the intermediate, along with biochemical and biophysical data reveal that ‐N≡C bond formation involves two cycles of Fe/2OG enzyme catalysis. SuFEx reactions, in which an S−F moiety reacts with a silyl‐protected phenol, have been developed as powerful click reactions. In the current paper we open up the potential of SuFEx reactions as enantioselective reactions, analyze the role of Si and outline the mechanism of this reaction. As a result, fast, high‐yielding, "Si‐free" and enantiospecific SuFEx reactions of sulfonimidoyl fluorides have been developed, and their mechanism shown, by both experimental and theoretical methods, to yield chiral products. Organosilicon compounds have been extensively utilized both in industry and academia. Studies on the syntheses of diverse organosilanes is highly appealing. Through‐space metal/hydrogen shifts allow functionalization of C−H bonds at a remote site, which are otherwise difficult to achieve. However, until now, an aryl to alkyl 1,5‐palladium migration process seems to have not been presented. Reported herein is the remote olefination, arylation, and borylation of a methyl group on silicon to access diverse vinyl‐, benzyl‐, and borylsilanes, constituting a unique C(sp3)−H transformation based on a 1,5‐palladium migration process. A highly regioselective Ni‐catalyzed electrochemical reductive relay cross‐coupling between an aryl halide and an alkyl halide has been developed in an undivided cell. A novel CoII‐catalyzed polyene cyclization was developed that is uniquely effective when performed in hexafluoroisopropanol as the solvent. The process is presumably initiated by metal‐catalyzed hydrogen‐atom transfer (MHAT) to 1,1‐disubstituted or monosubstituted alkenes, and the reaction is remarkable for its tolerance of internal alkenes bearing either electron‐rich methyl or electron‐deficient nitrile substituents. Electron‐rich aromatic terminators are required in both cases. Terpenoid scaffolds with different substitution patterns are obtained with excellent diastereoselectivities, and the bioactive C20‐oxidized abietane diterpenoid carnosaldehyde was made to showcase the utility of the nitrile‐bearing products. Ionic hydrogenation has not been extensively explored, but is advantageous for challenging substrates such as unsaturated intermediates. Reported here is an iridium‐catalyzed hydrogenation of oxocarbenium ions to afford chiral isochromans with high enantioselectivities. A variety of functionalities are compatible with this catalytic system. In the presence of a catalytic amount of the Brønsted acid HCl, an α‐chloroether is generated in situ and subsequentially reduced. Kinetic studies suggest first‐order kinetics in the substrate and half‐order kinetics in the catalyst. A positive nonlinear effect, together with the half kinetic order, revealed a dimerization of the catalyst. Possible reaction pathways based on the monomeric iridium catalyst were proposed and DFT computational studies revealed an ionic hydrogenation pathway. HCHO has been confirmed as an active intermediate in the methanol‐to‐hydrocarbon (MTH) reaction, and is critical for interpreting the mechanisms of coke formation. Here, HCHO was detected and quantified during the MTH process over HSAPO‐34 and HZSM‐5 by in situ synchrotron radiation photoionization mass spectrometry. Compared with conventional methods, excellent time‐resolved profiles were obtained to study the formation and fate of HCHO, and other products during the induction, steady‐state reaction, and deactivation periods. Similar formation trends of HCHO and methane, and their close correlation in yields suggest that they are derived from disproportionation of methanol at acidic sites. In the presence of Y2O3, the amount of HCHO changes, affecting the hydrogen‐transfer processes of olefins into aromatics and aromatics into cokes. The yield of HCHO affects the aromatic‐based cycle and the formation of ethylene, indicating that ethylene is mainly formed from the aromatic‐based cycle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ternary complexes of an α‐amino acid with 3,5‐dichlorosalicylaldehyde and a chiral guanidine (derived from corresponding chiral vicinal diamine) were obtained in good yield as diastereomerically pure imino acid salt complexes and were hydrolysed to obtain enantiopure α‐amino acids. A combination of DFT computation, NMR spectroscopy, and crystal structure provide detailed insight into how two types of strong hydrogen bonds assist in rapid epimerization of the complexes that is essential for SIDT. The concept of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) has been widely applied in various research areas, and metal‐free hydrogenation undoubtedly belongs to the most significant and successful ones. In the past decade, great efforts have been devoted to the synthesis of chiral boron Lewis acids. In a sharp contrast, chiral Lewis base derived FLPs have rarely been disclosed for the asymmetric hydrogenation. In this work, a novel type of chiral FLP was developed by simple combination of chiral oxazoline Lewis bases with achiral boron Lewis acids, thus providing a promising new direction for the development of chiral FLPs in the future. These chiral FLPs proved to be highly effective for the asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones, enones, and chromones, giving the corresponding products in high yields with up to 95 % ee. The first example of PdII‐catalyzed γ‐C(sp3)−H functionalization of aliphatic and benzoheteroaryl aldehydes has been developed using a transient ligand and an external ligand, concurrently. A wide array of γ‐arylated aldehydes were readily accessed without preinstalling internal directing groups. The catalytic mechanism was studied by performing deuterium‐labelling experiments, which indicated that the γ‐C(sp3)−H bond cleavage is the rate‐limiting step during the reaction process. This reaction could be performed on a gram scale, and also demonstrated its potential application in the synthesis of new mechanofluorochromic materials with blue‐shifted mechanochromic properties. Pistol ribozymes constitute a new class of small self‐cleaving RNAs. Crystal structures have been solved, providing three‐dimensional snapshots along the reaction coordinate of pistol phosphodiester cleavage, corresponding to the pre‐catalytic state, a vanadate mimic of the transition state, and the product. The results led to the proposed underlying chemical mechanism. Importantly, a hydrated Mg2+ ion remains innersphere‐coordinated to N7 of G33 in all three states, and is consistent with its likely role as acid in general acid base catalysis (δ and β catalysis). Strikingly, the new structures shed light on a second hydrated Mg2+ ion that approaches the scissile phosphate from its binding site in the pre‐cleavage state to reach out for water‐mediated hydrogen bonding in the cyclophosphate product. The major role of the second Mg2+ ion appears to be the stabilization of product conformation. This study delivers a mechanistic understanding of ribozyme‐catalyzed backbone cleavage. Für die Synthese von hochwertigen Thioethern wurde eine Nickel‐katalysierte Arylthioether‐Metathese entwickelt. 1,2‐Bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethan (dcype) ist essentiell, um diese Reaktion mit breiter Kompatibilität funktioneller Gruppen zu ermöglichen. Weiterhin konnten synthetisch anspruchsvolle Makrocyclen in guter Ausbeute in einem seltenen Beispiel für eine Ringschlussmetathese ohne Doppelbindungen erhalten werden. Umfassende metallorganische Untersuchungen belegen einen reversiblen Ni0‐NiII‐Pfad zur Produktbildung. Insgesamt wird in dieser Arbeit nicht nur eine nachhaltigere Alternative zu früheren katalytischen Systemen auf Pd‐Basis beschrieben, sondern es werden auch neue Anwendungen und mechanistische Informationen aufgezeigt, die für die weitere Entwicklung und Anwendung ungewöhnlicher Metathesereaktionen von Einfachbindungen von hoher Relevanz sind. A highly E‐selective cross‐dimerization of terminal alkynes with either terminal silylacetylenes, tert‐butylacetylene, or 1‐trimethylsilyloxy‐1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐propyne in the presence of a dichlorocobalt(II) complex bearing a sterically demanding 2,9‐bis(2,4,6‐triisopropylphenyl)‐1,10‐phenanthroline, activated with two equivalents of EtMgBr, gives a variety of (E)‐1,3‐enynes. A well‐characterized diolefin/cobalt(0) complex, with divinyltetramethyldisiloxane, acted as a catalytically active species without any activation, clearly indicating that a cobalt(0) species is involved in the catalytic cycle. The hydrogenolysis of the aromatic C−O bond in aryl ethers catalyzed by Ni was studied in decalin and water. Observations of a significant kinetic isotope effect (kH/kD=5.7) for the reactions of diphenyl ether under H2 and D2 atmosphere and a positive dependence of the rate on H2 chemical potential in decalin indicate that addition of H to the aromatic ring is involved in the rate‐limiting step. All kinetic evidence points to the fact that H addition occurs concerted with C−O bond scission. DFT calculations also suggest a route consistent with these observations involving hydrogen atom addition to the ipso position of the phenyl ring concerted with C−O scission. Azacycles such as indoles and tetrahydroquinolines are privileged structures in drug development. Reported here is an unprecedented regiodivergent intramolecular nucleophilic addition reaction of imines as a flexible approach to access N‐functionalized indoles and tetrahydroquinolines, by the control of reaction at the N‐terminus and C‐terminus, respectively. Using ketimines derived from 2‐(2‐nitroethyl)anilines with isatins or α‐ketoesters, the regioselective N‐attack reaction gives N‐functionalized indoles, while the catalytic enantioselective C‐attack reaction affords chiral tetrahydroquinolines featuring an α‐tetrasubstituted stereocenter. Mechanistic studies reveal that hydrogen‐bonding interactions may greatly facilitate such unusual N‐attack reactions of imines. Tropylium bromide undergoes noncatalyzed, regioselective additions to a large variety of Michael acceptors. In this way, acrylic esters are converted into β‐bromo‐α‐cycloheptatrienylpropionic esters. The reactions are interpreted as nucleophilic attack of bromide ions at the electron‐deficient olefins and the approach of the tropylium ion to the incipient carbanion. Quantum chemical calculations were performed to elucidate the analogy to the amine‐ or phosphine‐catalyzed Rauhut–Currier reactions. Designing effective electrocatalysts for the carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) is an appealing approach to tackling the challenges posed by rising CO2 levels and realizing a closed carbon cycle. However, fundamental understanding of the complicated CO2RR mechanism in CO2 electrocatalysis is still lacking because model systems are limited. We have designed a model nickel single‐atom catalyst (Ni SAC) with a uniform structure and well‐defined Ni‐N4 moiety on a conductive carbon support with which to explore the electrochemical CO2RR. Operando X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and near‐ambient X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, revealed that Ni+ in the Ni SAC was highly active for CO2 activation, and functioned as an authentic catalytically active site for the CO2RR. Furthermore, through combination with a kinetics study, the rate‐determining step of the CO2RR was determined to be *CO2−+H+→*COOH. The synthesis of structurally complex and highly strained natural products provides unique challenges and unexpected opportunities for the development of new reactions and strategies. Herein, the synthesis of (+)‐[5]‐ladderanoic acid is reported. En route to the target, unusual and unexpected strain release driven transformations were uncovered. This occurrence required a drastic revision of the synthetic design that ultimately led to the development of a novel stepwise cyclobutane assembly by an allylboration/Zweifel olefination sequence. The photocatalyzed ortho‐selective migration on a pyridyl ring has been achieved for the site‐selective trifluoromethylative pyridylation of unactivated alkenes. The overall process is initiated by the selective addition of a CF3 radical to the alkene to provide a nucleophilic alkyl radical intermediate, which enables an intramolecular endo addition exclusively to the ortho‐position of the pyridinium salt. Both secondary and tertiary alkyl radicals are well‐suited for addition to the C2‐position of pyridinium salts to ultimately provide synthetically valuable C2‐fluoroalkyl functionalized pyridines. Moreover, the method was successfully applied to the reaction with P‐centered radicals. A stereodivergent reductive coupling reaction between allylic carbonates and vinyl triflates to furnish both E‐ and Z‐configured 1,4‐dienes has been achieved by visible‐light‐induced photoredox/nickel dual catalysis. The mild reaction conditions allow good compatibility of both vinyl triflates and allylic carbonates. Notably, the stereoselectivity of this synergistic cross‐electrophile coupling can be tuned by an appropriate photocatalyst with a suitable triplet‐state energy, providing a practical and stereodivergent means to alkene synthesis. Nickel hydride (NiH) catalyzed hydrocarbonation has emerged as an efficient approach to construct new C−C bonds containing at least one C(sp3) center. However, the regioselectivity of this reaction is by far dictated by substrates. Described here is a strategy to achieve two different regioselectivites of hydroalkylation of the same substrates by using ligand control. This strategy enables the first regiodivergent hydroalkylation of 3‐pyrrolines, yielding both 2‐ and 3‐alkylated pyrrolidines, valuable synthetic intermediates and common motifs in many bioactive molecules. In situ oxidation of the GaI compound NacNacGa by either N2O or pyridine oxide results in the generation of a labile monomeric oxide, NacNacGa(O), which can easily cleave the C−H bonds of aliphatic and aromatic substrates featuring good donor sites. The products of this reaction are gallium organyl hydroxides. DFT calculations show that these reactions start with the formation of NacNac‐Ga(O)(L) adducts, the oxo ligand of which can easily abstract protons from nearby C−H bonds, even for sp2‐hybridized carbon centers. The merging of photoredox catalysis and N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis for γ‐ and ϵ‐alkylation of enals with alkyl radicals was developed. The alkylation reaction of γ‐oxidized enals with alkyl halides worked well for the synthesis γ‐multisubstituted‐α,β‐unsaturated esters, including those with challenging vicinal all‐carbon quaternary centers. Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) has become one of the most important living polymerizations. Cyclopropenes (CPEs) remain underexplored for ROMP. Described here is that the simple swap of 1‐methyl to 1‐phenyl on 1‐(benzoyloxymethyl)CPEs elicited strikingly different modes of reactivity, switching from living polymerization to either selective single‐addition or living alternating ROMP. The distinct reactivity stems from differences in steric repulsions at the Ru alkylidene after CPE ring opening. Possible olefin or oxygen chelation from ring‐opened CPE substituents was also observed to significantly affect the rate of propagation. These results demonstrate the versatility of CPEs as a new class of monomers for ROMP, provide mechanistic insights for designing new monomers with rare single‐addition reactivity, and generate a new functionalizable alternating copolymer scaffold with controlled molecular weight and low dispersity. We present a new device for quantifying gases or gas mixtures based on the simple principle of bubble counting. With this device, we can follow reaction kinetics down to volume step sizes of 8–12 μL. This enables the accurate determination of both time and size of these gas quanta, giving a very detailed kinetic analysis. We demonstrate this method and device using ammonia borane hydrolysis as a model reaction, obtaining Arrhenius plots with over 300 data points from a single experiment. Our device not only saves time and avoids frustration, but also offers more insight into reaction kinetics and mechanistic studies. The Pd‐catalyzed coupling of aryl (pseudo)halides and amines is one of the most powerful approaches for the formation of C(sp2)−N bonds. The pioneering reports from Migita and subsequently Buchwald and Hartwig on the coupling of aminostannanes and aryl bromides rapidly evolved into general and practical tin‐free protocols with broad substrate scope, which led to the establishment of what is now known as the Buchwald–Hartwig amination. This Minireview summarizes the evolution of this cross‐coupling reaction over the course of the past 25 years and illustrates some of the most recent applications of this well‐established methodology.
