Purpose An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is commonly used for automating operational processes and enhancing their efficiency inside a company. In the recent years, the increasing development of ERP technologies has increased their impacts on decision-making. Such impact can no longer be underestimated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impacts of ERP systems on the improvement of decision-making quality inside large Moroccan companies. Design/methodology/approach Based on the DeLone and McLean information systems success model and by adopting a quantitative approach, survey data were collected through questionnaires. The established questionnaires were distributed to 104 decision-makers who use ERP systems. To test the developed research model, structural equation modeling based on the partial least squares method was used. Findings The findings of the present investigation showed that information and system quality had a positive impact on the overall user’s experience with the ERP system, whereas service quality had a negative impact on it. This influenced the quality of decision-making. The results also showed that the model used has sufficient and adequate convergent and discriminant validities, as well as sufficient reliability. Originality/value To the best of authors’ knowledge, this is the first empirical study that evaluates the effect of ERP systems on improving the quality of decision-making in Morocco. The results provide interesting theoretical and managerial implications.

Despite successive reforms and a high percentage of the national budget devoted to education, Morocco ranks among last in terms of student achievement. This article reviews the definition of student achievement, examines the measures targeting the improvement of student achievement in the last Moroccan educational reforms based on the three drivers identified by Masino and Nino-Zarazua (Int J Educ Dev 48:53–65, 2015). In addition, it identifies the main difficulties encountered in the implementation of these measures and puts forward some recommendations. It thus concludes that there is a growing gap between the reforms’ aspirations and daily practices at regional and school levels. It also shows that despite the significant progress in infrastructure and enrolment, additional efforts are needed to pragmatically raise student achievement in Morocco.

L’objectif de ce travail est d’estimer l’impact des compétences sur le salaire d’un échantillon de 842 lauréats de l’Université Hassan 1erinsérés dans le marché du travail. Les données utilisées proviennent des enquêtes « insertion » menées annuellement depuis 2011, par l’Université, en partenariat avec l’Instance Nationale d’Evaluation rattachée au Conseil Supérieur de l'Éducation, de la Formation et de la Recherche Scientifique (Maroc). Ainsi, nous spécifions une équation de Mincer enrichie dans laquelle nous estimons le salaire en fonction des variables relatives aux individus, à leur formation, à leurs emplois et aux compétences acquises. L’originalité de ce travail consiste à appliquer, dans une première étape, une analyse factorielle des correspondances multiples sur 19 compétences sur lesquelles les lauréats ont été interrogés. Cette méthode nous permet de générer 11 facteurs expliquant 70,36% de l’inertie totale. Ces facteurs seront intégrés, dans une deuxième étape, dans l’équation de Mincer enrichie. Les estimations montrent un impact positif et significatif de 16 compétences parmi les 19. Cet impact est plus élevé que celui de l’éducation (mesuré par le nombre d’années d’études). L’éducation se révèle ainsi un indicateur incomplet du stock de capital humain. Le marché du travail, en perpétuel changement, valorise plus la maitrise de certaines compétences que le nombre d’années d’études. Notre estimation montre également des coefficients négatifs et significatifs sur le salaire pour les individus travaillant dans le secteur privé par rapport au public et pour les femmes par rapport aux hommes.

While information technology (IT) has grown rapidly in enterprises, scholars have emphasized the importance of IT factors and aspects, while limited attention has been paid to the barriers and challenges facing the adoption of IT. In light of this, we stress the importance of barriers inhibiting IT adoption within Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). For this purpose, this paper aims to create a systematic literature review in order to provide a better understanding of barriers to IT adoption within SME. On the basis of 132 selected studies, we identify 18 barriers categorized according to internal and external parameters. Finally, we underline a synthesis and avenues for future research, and provide scientific and managerial implications and guidance for the adoption of IT in SME.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of corporate culture (CC) and hedonic motivation (HM) on the adoption of an information system (IS) inside a Moroccan company. To do so, the authors have combined and merged the “unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2” along with the “Nguyen and Aoyama’s model” that covers the subject of CC. Later, the authors tested the research model within a Moroccan company. Design/methodology/approach In the present work, the authors used a quantitative analysis approach. Survey data were collected through oral interviews and analysis was performed based on the “partial least square” method, over a 94 sample of direct IS users. Findings The findings of the present investigation demonstrate the reliability and the validity of the established measurement model. Concerning the structural model, results support all hypotheses but with different effect size. The conclusion that can be extracted from this study is that CC and HM are important factors in the adoption process within the Moroccan firm. Originality/value This study enhances the understanding of the major factors affecting the adoption of an IS in a developing country. While several studies on adoption have been conducted, this study’s originality and contribution lays in the examination of the rarely evaluated factors: HM and CC.

Purpose: Nowadays, technological tools have become very important and essential. But sometimes, they may have some adoption difficulties since adoption or rejection remains voluntary. There are several factors that can influence adoption and among these factors, we find quality of the tool. The purpose of this paper is to measure the effect of quality on the adoption of an information system (IS) within a Moroccan company.Methodology: To assess the effect of quality, we used a quantitative method by a questionnaire and the data was collected in the company using informal interviews.Value: The analysis of the results obtained using the Partial least squares (PLS) method allows us to know the influence of quality on the adoption of the IS and specifically the influence of the two characteristics of quality: performance expectancy and effort expectancy on the adoption of the IS in the Moroccan firm. The results than come out from this investigation show that effort expectancy had no influence on adoption whereas performance expectancy had a positive effect on adoption.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have significantly grown and evolved in the last decades. As a result, they have become highly important for operational data analysis and subsequently to create decision support and analytical applications. The majority of studies on ERP systems have aimed to evaluate their transactional and operational impacts, without taking into consideration their importance in the decision-making aspects. Based on a systematic literature review methodology, this article intended to analyze previous research works on the role of ERP in improving the decision-making. The research was conducted based on four scientific search engines: Emerald Insight, IEEE Xplore, ProQuest and ScienceDirect. After screening more than 386 articles, 27 of them were selected, categorized and then synthesized. The study provides useful information on the way these systems contribute to improving the decisional aspect in the enterprise.

According to Ferreira and Otley (2009) contextual factors and organizational culture are considered as variable factors that have a significant impact on the performance management system framework, which comprises 12 questions/issues. The intention of this work is to define how organizational culture influences the question/issue of performance information use, through the example of Air Traffic Management (ATM). In fact, based on Schein’s model we determine how two of the levels of organizational culture influence the performance information use within the Moroccan ATM system.

Foreign banks, governance and performance of privatized banks We examine the post-privatization performance of 72 banks from 26 developing countries, 21 banks were privatized by foreign bank entry. Our results suggest that privatization doesn’t have an important effect on the performance of privatized banks. Our results suggest also that foreign bank and their cognitive contribution improve privatized bank performance measured by capital adequacy, assets quality and liquidity. The success of bank privatization depends on the specific skills and on the know-how brought by the foreign bank.
