Abstract

\item[Background] The nuclear responses for antineutrinos associated with double beta decays (DBDs) and astro-antineutrino interactions are studied by measuring ordinary muon capture (OMC) rates. \item[Purpose]The experimental studies of absolute OMC rates and their mass number dependence for $^{100}$Mo and the natural Mo are currently of interest in astro-antineutrinos and DBDs. \item[Method]The OMC rates were obtained experimentally by measuring the time spectrum of the trapped muon's decay into electrons to obtain the half-lives of the trapped muons. \item[Results]The OMC rate for the enriched isotope of $^{100}$Mo is $\Lambda$($^{100}$Mo)=(7.07$\pm$0.32)$\times10^{6}$ s$^{-1}$, while that for the natural Mo is $\Lambda$($^{\rm nat}$Mo)=(9.66$\pm$0.44)$\times10^{6}$ s$^{-1}$, i.e., $\Lambda$($^{100}$Mo) is about 27$\%$ of $\Lambda$($^{\rm nat}$Mo), reflecting the blocking effect of the excess neutrons for the proton-to-neutron transformation in OMC. The present experimental observation is consistent with the predictions using Goulard-Primakoff's (GPs) and Primakoff's (Ps) empirical equations. \item[Conclusions] The absolute OMC rates for $^{100}$Mo and $^{\rm nat}$Mo were measured. The large neutron excess in $^{100}$Mo gives a much lower OMC rate than $^{\rm nat}$Mo. On both $^{100}$Mo and $^{\rm nat}$Mo, consistent OMC rates with the GP and P values are observed., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

The importance of the tourism industry has prevailed among developed and even developing countries. It has been perceived to be an important contribution to economic growth. However, in the proliferation of studies on inflation, information on the extent to which tourism industry able to influence inflation, is still sparse. Therefore, this study embarks on investigating tourism as a potential factor towards inflation. Data on consumer price index and the number of tourist arrival from 1986 until 2014 are used in the analysis. This study adopts a quantitative approach employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach. Several controlled variables such as money supply, economic growth, government expenditure, and interest rate are also included. The results suggest that the tourism industry plays an important role in determining inflation in both short-and long-runs. Therefore, governments should take proactive measures in ascertaining that any expansion of the tourism industry can avert inflation.

This study aimed to establish the prevalence of SB among elderly inpatients and identify the relationship between SB and depression and functional disability.Methods: This cross-sectional study included 136 randomly selected elderly inpatients aged 60 years and older who were hospitalized in a tertiary referral center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The study utilized the following scales as the assessment tools: The Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSRS), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.), the Modified Barthel Index (Shah version) (MBI), and visual analog scale.Results: The rates of current major depressive disorder (MDD), recurrent MDD, passive suicidal ideation (SI), and active SI were 24.3%, 8.8%, 27.9%, and 5.9%, respectively. Depressed elderly had 6 to 17 times higher risk of developing passive or active SI. “Wish to be dead,” ie, passive SI was associated with admission to oncology or surgical ward and the presence of current MDD. The findings of the study revealed that active SI was associated with being over 80 years old (p = 0.027), being single (p = 0.042), admission to the oncology ward (p = 0.012) or orthopedic ward (p = 0.032), having positive GDS (p = 0.049), and the presence of current MDD (p = 0.019) or recurrent MDD (p = 0.010). According to the study findings, no association has been observed between passive and active SI and level of independence and acute pain.Conclusion: The risk of depressed elderly inpatients having passive and active SI is high. Hence, screening for depression and SI is crucial for prompt treatment and management.Keywords: depression, elderly, functional disability, pain, suicidal behavior

Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the cut-off values of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) for predicting the risk of MCI in older Malaysian adults.Methods: A total of 2,240 Malaysian older adults aged ≥60 years were recruited using multistage random sampling in a population based cross-sectional study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine the cut-off values of BMI and WC with optimum sensitivity and specificity for the detection of MCI. Age, gender, years of education, smoking habit, alcohol consumption, depression, and medical conditions were used as confounding factors in this analysis.Results: A BMI cut-off value of 26 kg/m2 (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] 0.725; sensitivity 90.5%; specificity 38.8%) was appropriate in identifying the risk of getting MCI in both men and women. The optimum WC cut-offs for likelihood of MCI were 90 cm (AUC 0.745; sensitivity 78.0%; specificity 59.8%) for men and 82 cm (AUC 0.714; sensitivity 84.3%; specificity 49.7%) for women. The optimum calf circumference (CC) cut-off values for identifying MCI were 29 cm (AUC 0.731; sensitivity 72.6%; specificity 61.1%) for men and 26 cm (AUC 0.598; sensitivity 79.1%; specificity 45.3%) for women.Conclusion: The cut-off values could be advocated and used as part of the screening of MCI among older Malaysian adults. There is a need to further determine the predictive values of these cut-off points on outcomes through longitudinal study design. Abstract

The default mode network (DMN) is a large brain network in the human brain and has a substantial correlation with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Grey matter volume (GMV) and functional connectivity (FC) were reported to be different between AD and healthy control (HC). Nevertheless, the structural and functional alterations that take place in AD in association with the DMN in Malaysian patients is not well understood. Our aim was to show how structural MRI data could be processed using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) to identify differences in regional grey matter volume (GMV) between AD patients and HC. Comparison of the variations in rs-functional connectivity in the DMN on fMRI scans between AD and HC was another objective of this study.

16. HVAC Control Systems for a Negative Air Pressure Isolation Room and Its Performance

Abstract

The controlled environment room, called an isolation room, has become a must have for medical facilities, due to the spreading of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), to isolate the high risk infected patients. To avoid the transmission of the virus through airborne routes, guidelines were published by the government and the association. A medical facility must comply with this document for high-risk patient treatment. A full-scale N class isolation room was built at Syiah Kuala University to investigate the performance in terms of the controller, temperature, pressure, humidity, and energy consumption. The isolation room was equipped with a proper capacity heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, which consisted of an air conditioning compressor and a negative pressure generator (NPG), and its installation was ensured to fulfil the guidelines. Since the current NPG was controlled manually, a computer-based control system was designed, implemented, and compared with the manual control. The results showed that the computer-based control outputs better stability of pressure and electric power. For that reason, a computer-based control was chosen in the real case. To investigate the performance of the isolation room, a 24 h experiment was carried out under different parameter setups. The results showed that improvement of the control strategy for temperature and humidity is still necessary. The energy consumption during the activation of the NPG for the recommended negative pressure was slightly different. An additional piece of equipment to absorb the heat from the exhaust air would be promising to improve the energy efficiency.

Abstract

Total stations, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) instruments, and laser scanners are common tools used in detailed surveys because of the precision they bring to measurements and data collection. While conventional land surveying methods using total stations and GNSS instruments are widely used for their accuracy, they require a team of at least three people and can be costly. In 2021, Apple introduced the iPhone 13 Pro with a built-in LiDAR sensor that can potentially be used for land surveying. However, it is unclear whether the LiDAR data obtained from the iPhone is accurate and reliable enough to replace the conventional surveying methods. Therefore, a comparison study between the conventional method and the iPhone LiDAR sensor needs to be conducted to evaluate the feasibility and potential benefits of using the iPhone LiDAR sensor in land surveying. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences between tacheometry method using total station and laser scanning method using iPhone 13 Pro Max in generating detail survey plan. This study was conducted UiTM Shah Alam Stadium, Shah Alam, Selangor. For scanning method, two device poses (distance of sensor to target) are used which are 5 and 10 cm. Based on results and analysis, the differen ce between the actual elevation value and the scanning data from the device at 5 cm and 10 cm is relatively small. The lowest values for the device's position at 5 cm and 10 cm are -0.025 m and -0.057 m, respectively, and the highest values are 0.023 m and 0.017 m, respectively. The average deviation at the device's position of 5 cm is 0.023 m, while the average deviation at the device's position of 10 cm is 0.017 m. In conclusion, the LiDAR sensor in the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the potential to be a valuable tool for assessing accuracy in detailed survey plans. TEA was utilized as a polymer agent to terminate the growth of ZnO-NPs. The ZnO-NPs were characterized by a number of techniques, including X-ray diffraction analysis, transition electron microscopy, and field emission electron microscopy. The ZnO-NPs prepared by the solvothermal process at 150°C for 18 hours exhibited a hexagonal (wurtzite) structure, with a crystalline size of 33 ± 2 nm, and particle size of 48 ± 7 nm. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui potensi ekstrak air dan ekstrak etanol daun katuk (Sauropus androgynus) sebagai antelmintik dalam mengurangi jumlah nematoda gastrointestinal pada ternak kambing. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 15 ekor kambing kacang jantan lokal berumur 1 tahun dengan bobot badan awal 12,6±1,15 kg. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Ketiga perlakuan tersebut adalah P0 (kontrol) hanya diberi akuades; P1, diberikan ekstrak air daun katuk sebanyak 7,44 g/hari; dan P2, diberikan ekstrak etanol daun katuk sejumlah 1,89 g/hari. Perlakuan diberikan per oral sebanyak 2 kali sehari selama 40 hari. Makanan kambing berupa hijauan diberikan 2 kali sehari, sedangkan air minum diberikan ad libitum. Data berat badan dan jumlah nematoda dalam feses dihitung pada hari ke-0, 10, 20, 30, dan 40 pascaperlakuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian suplemen bungkil inti sawit (BIS), tepung daun katuk (KAT), dan kombinasi bungkil inti sawit dan tepung daun katuk (BISKAT) terhadap peningkatan kualitas spermatozoa kambing jantan peranakan Ettawa (PE). Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 20 ekor kambing jantan PE, berumur 1,5 tahun dengan berat badan antara 15 -20 kg dan dibagi atas empat kelompok yakni P0, P1, P2, dan P3 yang masing-masing diberi akuades, BIS 100 g/hari/ekor, kombinasi BIS 100 g/hari/ekor dan KAT 15 g/hari/ekor, dan KAT 15 g/hari/ekor. Pemberian perlakuan dilakukan selama 35 hari. Pada hari ke-36 dilakukan kastrasi dan selanjutnya dilakukan pemeriksaan kualitas spermatozoa yang meliputi motilitas, viabilitas, integritas membran, dan abnormalitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian suplemen kombinasi BISKAT dapat meningkatkan motilitas, viabilitas, integritas membran, dan menurunkan abnormalitas spermatozoa dibanding kelompok kontrol. Disimpulkan bahwa pemberian suplemen kombinasi BISKAT berpotensi meningkatkan kualitas spermatozoa kambing PE.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung atau ekstrak alkohol daun katuk terhadap perubahan histologis testis kambing kacang lokal jantan. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 15 ekor kambing dengan umur sekitar 1,5 tahun. Semua hewan penelitian terlebih dahulu diaklimatisasi selama 2 minggu terhadap lingkungan penelitian. Hewan-hewan tersebut dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yang masing-masing terdiri atas 5 ekor kambing. Kelompok P0 (kontrol) telah hanya diberikan air distilasi. Pada kelompok P1, diberikan perlakuan berupa suplementasi tepung daun katuk dan untuk kelompok P2 diberikan ekstrak alkohol daun katuk. Semua perlakuan diberikan secara oral sebanyak dua kali per hari (pada pagi dan sore hari) selama 35 hari berturut-turut. Setiap kambing percobaan diberikan pakan yang terdiri atas daun-daunan dan rumput, serta disediakan akses untuk memperoleh air minum secara ad libitum. Pada akhir waktu penelitian, seluruh hewan dikastrasi dan bagian tubulus seminiferus dari testis diambil dan diproses lebih lanjut untuk evaluasi secara histologis. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa terdapat indikasi peningkatan produksi spermatid dan spermatosit pada Kelompok P1 dan P2. Dengan demikian disimpulkan bahwa pemberian suplemen daun katuk dapat meningkatkan produksi spermatid dan spermatosit kambing kacang lokal jantan.

Abstract

A three-dimensional numerical model is developed to simulate the mold filling behavior in the plastic encapsulation of microchips. The conventional Hele--Shaw approximation is inadequate to analyze a complex molding compound flow behavior with multiple microchips in a single cavity. The developed numerical algorithm is based on the finite difference method combined with the robustness of volume of fluid volume-tracking method to solve the two-phase flow field in complex mold and die geometries. Twelve dies are arranged in a matrix-array in a single mold cavity. Short-shot experimental data are used to validate the numerical results for the melt flow front at different flow times. Close agreement between the experimental data and the numerical results demonstrates the applicability of the present computational model for the simulation of practical epoxy molding compound encapsulation. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui struktur morfologi gonad jantan pada berbagai ukuran dan mengetahui pola penyebaran gonad jantan dalam kantong gonad pada waktu akan memijah. Pengambilan induk dilakukan menggunakan metode gores, sedangkan analisis laboratorium dilakukan dengan metode pembedahan. Ukuran cangkang dibagi ke dalam empat kelompok berdasarkan tingkat kematangan gonad (TKG) yaitu TKG0 berukuran ˂20 mm, TKG1 berukuran 21-29 mm, TKG2 berukuran 30-38, TKG3 berukuran 39-48, dan TKG4 berukuran cangkang ˃49 mm. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa morfologi gonad jantan seperti paku dan pola penyebaran gonad jantan dalam kantong gonad secara acak dan lepas dari ikatan bersama pada muara kantong. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh adalah morfologi gonad jantan G. erosa pada TKG0, TKG1, dan TKG2 sulit dibedakan, sedangkan pada TKG3 dan TKG4 berbentuk seperti paku. Selanjutnya pola penyebaran masing-masing gonad jantan G. erosa dalam kantong gonad terjadi secara berkelompok dan acak, berada pada muara saluran gonad yang siap keluar dari kantong gonad untuk membuahi gonad betina.

Abstract

Experiments were conducted to determine whether thigh meat from death chicken can be identified through Warner-Bratzler (WB) shear value and using the impedance value. Thirty of thigh meat (Biceps femoris) were obtained from commercial slaughtering house classified into three groups namely halal slaughtered healthy chicken (AHS), slaughtered death chicken (AMS), and slaughtered stressed chicken (ALS). Biceps femoris muscles were used to microscopic procedures and to assess WB score values and impedance values. This study showed that shear values of AMS thigh meat were lower than AHS and ALS after 5 and 9 h PM. This study indicated that the impedance value of AMS were significantly lower (P<0.05) than AHS and ALS, it can be used to distinguish between halal thigh and the thigh meat from slaughtered death chicken.

Abstract

Recently, lightweight PU foam has been widely used as a soil improvement due to its several advantages. This study is conducted to determine the shear strength and structural electron microscopy of laterite soil with the intrusion of polyurethane, subsequently to visualize and evaluate the bonding between soil particles and polyurethane. Unconfined compressive strength test on remoulded soils was carried out to identify the shear strength of the laterite soil with and without the intrusion of PU foam whilst the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) test was conducted to determine the structural microscopy image of the laterite soil with and without the intrusion of polyurethane. The results show that the intrusion of PU into the soil able to fill the void in between the soil particles, thus formed strong bonding between the soil particles and subsequently increase the shear strength of the soil. Ordinary µ capture is useful for probing the neutrino nuclear responses for double beta decay especially in the β+ side region. The aim of this study is to measure the prompt and delayed gamma rays from NatMo (µ,xnv) and 100Mo (µ,xnv) reactions and calculate the relative capture strength, β(µ,E) using the Proton-Neutron Emission Model (PNEM). Experimental data of NatMo and 100Mo targets irradiated by negative µ at MuSIC Facility, Osaka University are analysed and the production rates, and the mass distribution were obtained. The experimental data was compared with the mass distribution calculation using PNEM to get the β(µ,E). The giant resonance (GR) like distribution was observed with the first GR peak around 12 MeV. Abstract

This study aims to dicover the economic loss caused by nematodiasis in local goat farmings around the animal primary health care (Puskeswan) in Batee Roo, Aceh Jaya. In this study, as many as 84 goats positive of nematodiasis were used as samples for cross-sectional approach. Nematodiasis goats were confirmed from clinical symptoms and fecal examination using centrifugation method. Economic loss was determined by measuring body weight of all the goats. The results showed that the goats in the local farms had more than 70% prevalence rate of nematodiasis, which caused economic loss around Rp. 34.300,-/male goat, and Rp.9.310,-/ female goat. Based on the goats population in Batee Roo in 2014, total economic loss from nematodiasis for male goats reached Rp. 19.012.000,- per year, and for female it was Rp. 9.012.000,- per year. From this data, it can be concluded that the economic loss from nematodiasis in male and female goats around Puskeswan Batee Roo, Aceh Jaya per year could reach Rp. 20.000.000.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence of fasciolosis of Simeulue's buffalo using macroscopic approach by observing pathological changes in the liver. The sample were obtained from slaughterhouse in Sinabang. A number of 60 livers were obtained on July to September 2015 based on post mortem examination. From this sample, a total of 57 livers were found positive indication of infested by F. gigantica (95%). The length and width of F. gigantica was 25 mm and 7 mm. The body was flat as a leaf, blunt on posterior, gray, brown, transparant and do not have a real shoulder shapes. The liver which were not infested with F. gigantica showed sharp edges and a very high degree of elasticity. On the other hand, in the infested liver was found F. gigantica in the bile duct and showed a color of pale, the dark brown exudate as well as objects looks like gravel. The buffaloes sample were supplied to the abattoir from the paddy fields or oil palm plantations area. In comparison, the buffaloes raised in both areas were not different on the pathological changes of liver. In conclusion, this study showed that simeulue's buffalo is very prevalence to F. gigantica.

Abstract

In goats, we tested the sensory value of meat in the goat after oral treatment with palm kernel meal (PK), katuk leaf powder (KL) and betel nut powder (BN), separately and in combination. This study were used 8 Boerka goats that allocated among four groups of 2: the Control group was given distilled water; PK only was given to Group P1; a combination of all three was administered to Group PK-KL-BN, and a combination of KL and BN was administered to Group KL-BN. All treatments were administered orally for 35 consecutive days. animals were weighed before treatment (Day 0) and on Day 40 (5 days after the end of treatment). On day of 40, the animals were slaughtered using halal standard. Then, sample of meat was taken from bicep femoris of right leg of each animals for sensory evaluation, which comprised of tenderness, colour, aroma, taste, and juiciness. A number of 30 panelist were involved in the evaluation. The results showed that the meat were tender in the group of PK-KL-BN and KL-BN (the hedonic scale of 2, tender). Then, for the other parameters were not different between groups. In conclusion, the administration of combination of palm kernel meal, katuk leaf powder and betel nut powder, can improve the tendernes of meat in goats.

Abstract

Mesoporous titania has been successfully synthesized by photodegradation removal of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as the surfactant, after slow hydrolyzation of titanium(IV) isopropoxide. Fourier transform infrared spectra proved that photodegradation has successfully decreased the peak areas of the alkyl groups from the template. The nitrogen adsorption analysis showed that the pore size and the specific surface area of the mesoporous titania were 3.7 nm and 203 m2 g-1, respectively, proving the mesoporosity of the titania obtained with the existence of the interparticle mesoporosity which was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Based on X-ray diffraction results, the mesoporous titania obtained was in the form of crystalline anatase phase. Furthermore, results from the diffuse reflectance ultra violet-visible spectra showed that the composition of tetrahedral titanium(IV) was more than the octahedral titanium(IV). When the mesoporous titania obtained was used as a catalyst in the oxidation of styrene, an improvement in the conversion of styrene (38%) was observed when compared to those obtained using Degussa P25 TiO2 (14%) as the catalyst.

49. The mediating impact of Halal logistics on supply chain resilience: An agency perspective

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Halal logistics on supply chain resilience. The study is underpinned by the agency theory. Halal logistics was studied as an Agent of governance and control in the multiple principal-agent model that exists in a typical supply chain. A field survey has been conducted and the research population is the Malaysian pharmaceutical industry. 10 organizations were surveyed. The survey instrument is a structured self-administered questionnaire. The responses were quantified using fuzzy analytical hierarchy process approach. A fuzzy logic method was used to measure the resilience of each organization. Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression analysis were then carried out on SPSS to test the research hypothesis. The results have found that Halal logistics which acts as a governing mechanism for regulation and control in the supply chain, mediates the relationship between each of capabilities and vulnerabilities (predictors) and supply chain resilience (outcome).
