1. Proppant transport at the intersection of coal cleats and hydraulic fractures

Abstract

This work is the first computational study of proppant leak-off through coal cleats that accounts for proppant retention in cleats, occlusion formation at cleat entrances, the resulting control of fluid leak-off, and the influence of realistic cleat roughness on these factors. Suspensions are simulated with a coupled lattice Boltzmann method-discrete element method, which explicitly models all physics, including shear-thinning fluid rheology. Firstly, using a simplified computational geometry, it is demonstrated that leak-off and mounding are both minimised when proppant invades and is retained in the cleat. This occurs most effectively with wide proppant size distributions, such as 100/635 mesh. However, when the proppant is larger than the cleat aperture, occlusions form at the cleat entrance, which can lead to significant mounding; this is observed for 100 mesh and 40/70 mesh. These findings are commensurate with an existing benchmark experiment. The present study additionally demonstrates that mounding is significantly reduced for shear-thinning fluids compared to Newtonian fluids. Simulations are then conducted with rough cleats in a realistic fracture channel. Leak-off is smallest for high cleat roughness and when cleats are narrower than a critical width, while proppant retention is largest at the same critical width but only above a certain roughness. Mounding is primarily dependent on the width, as opposed to the roughness. These results are presented as high-fidelity maps which can be directly incorporated into hydraulic fracturing simulations for improved predictions of fluid leak-off and propped reservoir volumes, and which can be tailored for different treatment and reservoir conditions.

2. Nature of temperature chaos in spin glasses

Abstract

Temperature chaos (TC) in spin glasses has been claimed to exist no matter how small the temperature change, $\Delta T$. However, experimental studies have exhibited a finite value of $\Delta T$ for a transition to TC. This paper explores the onset of TC with much higher resolution than before and over a larger temperature range. We find that TC is always present, though small at the smallest $\Delta T$ that we can reliably measure. However, it grows rapidly as $\Delta T$ increases, the region of rapid growth coinciding with the $\Delta T$ predicted from renormalization group arguments and observed experimentally. We are able to transcend the full range of TC, from the completely reversible state to one that is maximally decorrelated from the initially prepared state.

Abstract

in nanoscale systems in the presence of single-electron excitations generated by Lorentzian voltage drives, termed \textit{Levitons}. These excitations allow to realize the analog of quantum optics experiments using electrons instead of photons. Importantly, electrons in condensed matter systems are strongly affected by the presence of different types of non-trivial correlations, with no counterpart in the domain of photonic quantum optics. After providing a short introduction about Levitons in non-interacting systems, we focus on how they operate in the presence of two types of strong electronic correlations in nanoscale systems, such as those arising in the fractional quantum Hall effect or in superconducting systems. Specifically, we consider Levitons in a quantum Hall bar of the fractional quantum Hall effect, pinched by a quantum point contact, where anyons with fractional charge and statistics tunnel between opposite edges. In this case, a Leviton-Leviton interaction can be induced by the strongly correlated background. Concerning the effect of superconducting correlations on Levitons, we show that, in a normal metal system coupled to BCS superconductors, half integer Levitons minimize the excess noise in the Andreev regime. Interestingly, energy-entangled electron states can be realized on-demand in this type of hybrid setups by exploiting crossed Andreev reflection. Abstract

Biasing a three-terminal Josephson junction (TTJ) with symmetrical voltages $0,V,-V$ leads to new kinds of DC currents, namely quartet Josephson currents and phase-dependent multiple Andreev reflection (MAR) currents. We study these currents in a system where a normal diffusive metallic node $N$ is connected to three terminals $S_{0,1,2}$ by barriers of arbitrary transparency. We use the quantum circuit theory to calculate the current in each terminal, including decoherence. In addition to the stationary combination $\varphi_Q=\varphi_1+\varphi_2-2\varphi_0$ of the terminal phases $\varphi_i$, the bias voltage $V$ appears as a new and unusual control variable for a DC Josephson current. A general feature is the sign changes of the current-phase characteristics, manifesting in minima of the quartet ``critical current". Those sign changes can be triggered by the voltage, by the junction transparency or by decoherence. We study the possible separation of quartet currents from MAR currents in different regimes of parameters, including an "funnel" regime with very asymmetric couplings to $S_{0,1,2}$. In the regime of low transparency and asymetric couplings, we provide an analytic perturbative expression for the currents which shows an excellent agreement with the full numerical results.

Abstract

Photons are emitted or absorbed by a nano-circuit under both equilibrium and non-equilibrium situations. Here, we focus on the non-equilibrium situation arising due to a temperature difference between the leads of a quantum point contact, and study the finite frequency (colored) noise. We explore this delta-$T$ noise in the finite frequency regime for two systems: conventional conductors described by Fermi liquid scattering theory and the fractional quantum Hall system at Laughlin filling fractions, described by the chiral Luttinger liquid formalism. We study the emission noise, its expansion in the temperature difference (focusing on the quadratic component) as well as the excess emission noise defined with respect to a properly chosen equilibrium situation. The behavior of these quantities are markedly different for the fractional quantum Hall system compared to Fermi liquids, signalling the role of strong correlations. We briefly treat the strong backscattering regime of the fractional quantum Hall liquid, where a behavior closer to the Fermi liquid case is observed.

Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) methods enable complex, customized, and on-demand production of many products from different material types across various industries. The growing demand for flexible and more sustainable manufacturing solutions places AM in the mix of processes considered for non-commodities. However, AM processes also present unintentional environmental releases in end-of-life (EoL) material management, compromising overall sustainability. Data availability to assess the sustainability of individual EoL material management from individual AM processes is limited. Even so, EoL materials generated across AM practices frequently overlap, supporting high-level assessment as an alternative approach. Therefore, a holistic AM EoL material management sustainability analysis was completed using a customized list of efficiency, environmental, energy, and economic indicators from the Gauging Reaction Effectiveness for the Environmental Sustainability of Chemistries with a multi-Objective Process Evaluator (GREENSCOPE) methodology. Subsequently, this assessment identified low material recycling rates and high energy costs in some EoL material management processes, such as incineration and recovery. Subsequently, a trade-off analysis was performed to determine process modification opportunities, including implementing recycling to reduce the amount of hazardous waste at the expense of additional energy and cost investment. The AM EoL-specific sustainability analysis serves as a resource to offer insights and empower policymakers and stakeholders to enhance pollution prevention strategies and optimize the existing EoL material management processes.

Abstract

BackgroundA 63-year-old Black woman presented with progressive exertional dyspnea and chronic lower back pain. The course and findings in her case are instructive.Case reportFamily history was notable for cardiac deaths. An echocardiogram demonstrated ventricular wall thickening with diastolic dysfunction. The patient’s N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide level was 1,691 pg/ml with a troponin I level of 0.36 ng/ml. Transthyretin (TTR) sequencing detected a heterozygous V122I variant. The patient’s free κ light chain level in serum was 664 mg/L with a ratio of 16.5. Bone marrow analysis showed 20%–30% κ-restricted plasma cells with amyloid deposits. A technetium-99m sodium pyrophosphate scan was performed and was negative. Magnetic resonance imaging of the total spine showed ligamentum flavum (LF) thickening at L4–5, causing severe spinal stenosis. In both the abdominal fat and the LF, liquid chromatography-coupled tandem mass spectrometry confirmed κ-type immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis; the quantitative estimate of amyloid content in the LF was 5%. She was diagnosed with AL amyloidosis with Mayo Stage IIIA cardiac and soft tissue involvement, enrolled in the Aquarius trial (NCT05250973) in Cohort 2, and received daratumumab, cyclophosphamide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone. She achieved a partial hematological response with a cardiac response and is now pain-free and fully functional.ConclusionIn patients with amyloidosis who have both monoclonal gammopathy and a TTR variant, it is imperative to discern the tissue type of the amyloid to deduce the correct diagnosis. ATTR and AL amyloidosis can both cause spinal stenosis with minimal degenerative changes. The LF tissue must be stained for amyloids and, if present, typing must be performed.

13. Renormalization flow of a weak extended backscattering Hamiltonian in a non-chiral Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid

Abstract

We consider a non-chiral Luttinger liquid in the presence of a backscattering Hamiltonian which has an extended range. Right/left moving fermions at a given location can thus be converted as left/right moving fermions at a different location, within a specific range. We perform a momentum shell renormalization group treatment which gives the evolution of the relative degrees of freedom of this Hamiltonian contribution under the renormalization flow, and we study a few realistic examples of this extended backscattering Hamiltonian. We find that, for repulsive Coulomb interaction in the Luttinger liquid, any such Hamiltonian contribution evolves into a delta-like scalar potential upon renormalization to a zero temperature cutoff. On the opposite, for attractive couplings, the amplitude of this kinetic Hamiltonian is suppressed, rendering the junction fully transparent. As the renormalization procedure may have to be stopped because of experimental constraints such as finite temperature, we predict the actual spatial shape of the kinetic Hamiltonian at different stages of the renormalization procedure, as a function of the position and the Luttinger interaction parameter, and show that it undergoes structural changes. This renormalized kinetic Hamiltonian has thus to be used as an input for the perturbative calculation of the current, for which we provide analytic expressions in imaginary time. We discuss the experimental relevance of this work by looking at one-dimensional systems consisting of carbon nanotubes or semiconductor nanowires., Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures

We study photo-assisted transport for the edge states of a two dimensional electron gas in the fractional quantum Hall regime, pinched by a single quantum point contact. We provide a general expression of the photo-assisted current using a Keldysh-Floquet approach, when the AC drive is applied either directly to the edge states, or when it modulates the tunneling amplitude at the quantum point contact. Strikingly, for a simple cosine modulation of the tunneling amplitude, the phase shift of the second harmonic of the photoassisted current is directly related to the scaling dimension of the quasiparticle operators describing the fractional excitations. As the scaling dimension is intimately related to the statistics, our proposal of a gate modulation of the backscattered current provides a diagnosis of the statistics of Laughlin quasiparticles using a simple quantum point contact geometry., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

BackgroundA standardized pathology management tool for melanocytic skin lesions may improve patient care by simplifying interpretation and categorization of the diverse terminology currently extant.ObjectiveTo assess an online educational intervention that teaches dermatopathologists to use the Melanocytic Pathology Assessment Tool and Hierarchy for Diagnosis (MPATH-Dx), a schema collapsing multiple diagnostic terms into 5 classes ranging from benign to invasive melanoma.MethodsPracticing dermatopathologists (N = 149) from 40 US states participated in a 2-year educational intervention study (71% response rate). The intervention involved a brief tutorial followed by practice on 28 melanocytic lesions, with the goal of teaching pathologists how to correctly use the MPATH-Dx schema; competence using the MPATH-Dx tool 12-24 months postintervention was assessed. Participants' self-reported confidence using the MPATH-Dx tool was assessed preintervention and postintervention.ResultsAt preintervention, confidence using the MPATH-Dx tool was already high, despite 68% lacking prior familiarity with it, and confidence increased postintervention (P = .0003). During the intervention, participants used the MPATH-Dx tool correctly for 90% of their interpretations; postintervention, participants used the MPATH-Dx tool correctly for 88% of their interpretations.LimitationsFuture research should examine implementing a standardized pathology assessment schema in actual clinical practice.ConclusionDermatopathologists can be taught to confidently and competently use the MPATH-Dx schema with a simple educational tutorial followed by practice.

Abstract

Spin-glass thin films exhibit many features different from the bulk. The freezing temperatures of spin-glass films are suppressed for reduced thickness and follow the Kenning relation. The dynamics are altered near the vacuum interface. These phenomena are closely related to the lower critical dimension of spin glasses, the spin-glass correlation length, and the dimensional crossover from d = 3 to d = 2. In this article, we review the experimental facts and theoretical perspectives for spin-glass thin films. We focus on canonical spin-glass systems with the Ruderman–Kittel–Kasuya–Yosida (RKKY) interaction between magnetic impurities in a nonmagnetic host. Open questions to be addressed are emphasized.

Abstract

Abstract Endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) plays an important role in pulmonary hypertension (PH) but the molecular mechanisms regulating EndoMT remain to be defined. We demonstrate that the axis of the transcription factors PPARγ (Peroxisome Proliferator‐Activated Receptor gamma) and ETV2 (ETS variant 2) play important roles in the pathogenesis of PH. Decreased levels of the expression of PPARγ and ETV2 along with reduced endothelial and increased EndoMT markers are consistently observed in lungs and pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs) of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension patients, in hypoxia‐exposed mouse lungs, human PAECs, and in induced‐EndoMT cells. Etv2+/− mice spontaneously developed PH and right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH), associated with increased EndoMT markers and decreased EC markers. Interestingly, chronic hypoxia exacerbated right ventricular systolic pressure and RVH in Etv2+/− mice. PPARγ transcriptionally activates the ETV2 promoter. Consistently, while mice overexpressing endothelial PPARγ increases the expression of ETV2 and endothelial markers with reduced EndoMT markers, endothelial PPARγ KO mice show decreased ETV2 expression and enhanced EndoMT markers. Inducible overexpression of ETV2 under induced‐EndoMT cell model reduces number of cells with mesenchymal morphology and decreases expression of mesenchymal markers with increased EC makers, compared to control. Therefore, our study suggests that PPARγ‐ETV2 signaling regulates PH pathogenesis through EndoMT.

ImportanceA standardized pathology classification system for melanocytic lesions is needed to aid both pathologists and clinicians in cataloging currently existing diverse terminologies and in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Melanocytic Pathology Assessment Tool and Hierarchy for Diagnosis (MPATH-Dx) has been developed for this purpose.ObjectiveTo revise the MPATH-Dx version 1.0 classification tool, using feedback from dermatopathologists participating in the National Institutes of Health-funded Reducing Errors in Melanocytic Interpretations (REMI) Study and from members of the International Melanoma Pathology Study Group (IMPSG).Evidence reviewPracticing dermatopathologists recruited from 40 US states participated in the 2-year REMI study and provided feedback on the MPATH-Dx version 1.0 tool. Independently, member dermatopathologists participating in an IMPSG workshop dedicated to the MPATH-Dx schema provided additional input for refining the MPATH-Dx tool. A reference panel of 3 dermatopathologists, the original authors of the MPATH-Dx version 1.0 tool, integrated all feedback into an updated and refined MPATH-Dx version 2.0.FindingsThe new MPATH-Dx version 2.0 schema simplifies the original 5-class hierarchy into 4 classes to improve diagnostic concordance and to provide more explicit guidance in the treatment of patients. This new version also has clearly defined histopathological criteria for classification of classes I and II lesions; has specific provisions for the most frequently encountered low-cumulative sun damage pathway of melanoma progression, as well as other, less common World Health Organization pathways to melanoma; provides guidance for classifying intermediate class II tumors vs melanoma; and recognizes a subset of pT1a melanomas with very low risk and possible eventual reclassification as neoplasms lacking criteria for melanoma.Conclusions and relevanceThe implementation of the newly revised MPATH-Dx version 2.0 schema into clinical practice is anticipated to provide a robust tool and adjunct for standardized diagnostic reporting of melanocytic lesions and management of patients to the benefit of both health care practitioners and patients.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a mobile app designed to improve chronic disease self-management in patients aged 40 years and older with low health literacy and who had at least one chronic health condition, and to assess the impact of delivering information at different levels of reading difficulty. A randomized controlled trial was completed at two sites. Individuals aged 40 years and older screened for low health literacy who had at least one chronic health condition were randomly assigned to a tailored information multimedia app with text at one of three grade levels. Four primary outcomes were assessed: patient activation, chronic disease self-efficacy, health-related quality of life, and medication adherence. All groups showed overall increases in activation, self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life, but no change in medication adherence. No between-group differences were observed. The mobile app may have been effective in increasing participants’ levels of several psychosocial variables, but this interpretation can only be advanced tentatively in light of the lack of control-experimental group differences. Reading difficulty level was not significantly related to outcomes.

Abstract

We investigate photo assisted electronic transport in a normal-metal/BCS-superconductor junction with a microscopic Hamiltonian approach, for several types of periodic voltage drives applied on the normal-metal side. The time-dependent current and the photo-assisted noise are computed to all orders of the tunneling Hamiltonian using a Keldysh-Nambu-Floquet approach. An excess noise analysis allows one to determine to what extent pure electronic excitations with a small number of electrons per period can be generated by the different drives. When the superconducting gap is small compared to the drive frequency, the junction behaves like a normal-metal junction and minimal excess noise is reached for Lorentzian voltage drives carrying an integer charge (levitons). In the opposite regime of a large-gap, the excess noise vanishes for half-quantized levitons, giving rise to the perfect transmission of a Cooper pair on the superconducting side. This microscopic approach also allows us to address the intermediate regime, when the drive frequency is comparable to the gap, allowing us to study the non-trivial interplay between Andreev reflection and quasiparticle-transfer processes. Our analysis also shows the appearance of Tien-Gordon-type relations connecting the current and noise in the AC-driven junction to their DC counterpart, which we investigate in details. Finally, the possibility to build a reliable on-demand source of Cooper pairs with this setup is examined using realistic experimental parameters.

Abstract

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) is a novel coronavirus that infects many types of cells and causes cytokine storms, excessive inflammation, acute respiratory distress to induce failure of respiratory system and other critical organs. In this study, our results showed that trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), a metabolite generated by gut microbiota, acts as a regulatory mediator to enhance the inerleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine production and the infection of human endothelial progenitor cells (hEPCs) by SARS-CoV-2. Treatment of N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) could effectively block the entry of SARS-CoV-2 in hEPCs. The anti-infection effects of N-3 PUFAs were associated with the inactivation of NF-κB signaling pathway, a decreased expression of the entry receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and downstream transmembrane serine protease 2 in hEPCs upon the stimulation of TMAO. Treatment of DHA and EPA further effectively inhibited TMAO-mediated expression of IL-6 protein, probably through an inactivation of MAPK/p38/JNK signaling cascades and a downregulation of microRNA (miR)-221 in hEPCs. In conclusion, N-3 PUFAs such as DHA and EPA could effectively act as preventive agents to block the infection of SARS-CoV-2 and IL-6 cytokine production in hEPCs upon the stimulation of TMAO.

32. From Undergraduate Research to Graduation: Measuring the Robustness of the Pathway at a Hispanic-Serving Institution

Abstract

Based on several regression specifications that control for a host of covariates, this article demonstrates that the quantity of undergraduate research experience was by far the most important determinant for increased graduation rates at a 100% Hispanic-serving institution. Our finding also shows a causal relationship confirmed by propensity score matching analyses. Results underscore the high impact but sometimes underestimated contribution of undergraduate research to academic success, even for teaching-oriented colleges.

Abstract

This paper presents status on the upcoming NASA Agency-level RHA Process Standard. Based on recommendations provided by the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC), the NASA Electronic Parts and Packaging (NEPP) Program has led development of an agency-level standard for space flight avionics and electronics RHA. The standard introduces a novel RHA taxonomy and prescribes the process required by NASA programs and projects to baseline their RHA programs consistent with the MEAL (Mission, Environment, Application, and Lifetime) criteria including the risk tolerance posture. The standard also provides requirements for the RHA schedule integration in the program or project lifecycle and requirements for data deliverables content. Additional non-prescriptive technical content is provided in the standard appendices to guide development of RHA programs for NASA missions.

Abstract

Persons with chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and others, often experience self-management problems that are not disease-specific. These include disrupted sleep, pain, memory issues, and challenges in working with healthcare providers. These patients may benefit from information and skill development for these problems, but simply providing them information in brief sessions during clinical appointments or in handouts or pamphlets may have little impact on their behavior. Providing information tailored to persons' needs and individual characteristics significantly impacts patients' behavior and may increase their abilities to manage their health. However, creating tailored information for each person is labor intensive, making it difficult to use in everyday clinical practice. Computer-based tailoring is an alternative, allowing automated tailoring of information presented to patients based on their interactions with a computer app. This article describes our process in developing a series of modules for chronic disease self-management for persons 40 or older with one or more chronic health conditions.

Abstract

Despite numerous therapeutic advances in pulmonary arterial hypertension, patients continue to suffer high morbidity and mortality, particularly considering a median age of 50 years. This article explores whether early, robust reduction of right ventricular afterload would facilitate substantial improvement in right ventricular function and thus whether afterload reduction should be a treatment goal for pulmonary arterial hypertension. The earliest clinical studies of prostanoid treatment in pulmonary arterial hypertension demonstrated an important link between lowering mean pulmonary arterial pressure (or pulmonary vascular resistance) and improved survival. Subsequent studies of oral monotherapy or sequential combination therapy demonstrated smaller reductions in mean pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance. More recently, retrospective reports of initial aggressive prostanoid treatment or initial combination oral and parenteral therapy have shown marked afterload reduction along with significant improvements in right ventricular function. Some data suggest that reaching threshold levels for pressure or resistance (components of right ventricular afterload) may be key to interrupting the self-perpetuating injury of pulmonary vascular disease in pulmonary arterial hypertension and could translate into improved long-term clinical outcomes. Based on these clues, the authors postulate that improved clinical outcomes might be achieved by targeting significant afterload reduction with initial oral combination therapy and early parenteral prostanoids.

Abstract

Our objective in this study is to investigate the behavior of Boolean operators on combining annotation output from multiple Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems across multiple corpora and to assess how filtering by aggregation of Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus concepts affects system performance for Named Entity Recognition (NER) of UMLS concepts. We used three corpora annotated for UMLS concepts: 2010 i2b2 VA challenge set (31,161 annotations), Multi-source Integrated Platform for Answering Clinical Questions (MiPACQ) corpus (17,457 annotations including UMLS concept unique identifiers), and Fairview Health Services corpus (44,530 annotations). Our results showed that for UMLS concept matching, Boolean ensembling of the MiPACQ corpus trended towards higher performance over individual systems. Use of an approximate grid-search can help optimize the precision-recall tradeoff and can provide a set of heuristics for choosing an optimal set of ensembles.

Abstract

Magnetic semiconductors are a powerful platform for understanding, utilizing and tuning the interplay between magnetic order and electronic transport. Compared to bulk crystals, two-dimensional magnetic semiconductors have greater tunability, as illustrated by the gate modulation of magnetism in exfoliated CrI$_3$ and Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$, but their electrically insulating properties limit their utility in devices. Here we report the simultaneous electrostatic and magnetic control of electronic transport in atomically-thin CrSBr, an A-type antiferromagnetic semiconductor. Through magnetotransport measurements, we find that spin-flip scattering from the interlayer antiferromagnetic configuration of multilayer flakes results in giant negative magnetoresistance. Conversely, magnetoresistance of the ferromagnetic monolayer CrSBr vanishes below the Curie temperature. A second transition ascribed to the ferromagnetic ordering of magnetic defects manifests in a large positive magnetoresistance in the monolayer and a sudden increase of the bulk magnetic susceptibility. We demonstrate this magnetoresistance is tunable with an electrostatic gate, revealing that the ferromagnetic coupling of defects is carrier mediated.

Abstract

We consider the non-equilibrium zero frequency noise generated by a temperature gradient applied on a device composed of two normal leads separated by a quantum dot. We recall the derivation of the scattering theory for non-equilibrium noise for a general situation where both a bias voltage and a temperature gradient can coexist and put it in a historical perspective. We provide a microscopic derivation of zero frequency noise through a quantum dot based on a tight binding Hamiltonian, which constitutes a generalization of the pioneering work of Caroli et al. for the current obtained in the context of the Keldysh formalism. For a single level quantum dot, the obtained transmission coefficient entering the scattering formula for the non-equilibrium noise corresponds to a Breit-Wigner resonance. We compute the delta-$T$ noise as a function of the dot level position, and of the dot level width, in the Breit-Wigner case, for two relevant situations which were considered recently in two separate experiments. In the regime where the two reservoir temperatures are comparable, our gradient expansion shows that the delta-$T$ noise is dominated by its quadratic contribution, and is minimal close to resonance. In the opposite regime where one reservoir is much colder, the gradient expansion fails and we find the noise to be typically linear in temperature before saturating. In both situations, we conclude with a short discussion of the case where both a voltage bias and a temperature gradient are present, in order to address the potential competition with thermoelectric effects., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures
