7. Temperature dependences of the interlayer exchange constant of three-layer FeNi/Dy/FeNi films studied by the resonance method

Abstract

Three-layer FeNi/Dy/FeNi films were studied by ferromagnetic resonance method in the temperature range from 4 to 300 K. The acoustic and optical peaks recorded in microwave spectra demonstrate the presence of exchange coupling between the ferromagnetic FeNi layers of the planar system and allow us to establish the sign and value of the constant of the interlayer exchange interaction. Temperature dependences of the interlayer exchange interaction constant for three-layer films with intermediate layer thicknesses Dy 5 and 10 nm show a number of features (change in sign and extremum point), which reflect transformations of the magnetic structure Dy. 14. Magnetic circular dichroism and absorption spectra of [formula omitted] transition in HoAl3(BO3)4 and HoFe3(BO3)4 single crystals.

Abstract

Comparative study of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and absorption spectra of HoAl 3 (BO 3) 4 and HoFe 3 (BO 3) 4 single crystals in the region of I 8 5 → F 5 5 transition of the Ho3+ ion was carried out. Absorption spectra were decomposed into the Lorentz shape components and intensities of transitions were obtained. Unusually strong vibronic transitions were observed in HoAl 3 (BO 3) 4 , but were not observed in HoFe 3 (BO 3) 4 that testified to the strong non diagonal vibronic interaction in HoAl 3 (BO 3) 4. The MCD spectra were analyzed in approximation of the | J , ± M J 〉 wave functions of the free atom and using concept of the crystal quantum number. Peculiarity of application of this concept to ions with integer moments was revealed and modification of the concept was suggested. With the help of the MCD spectra, the Zeeman splitting of some transitions was found. In particular, the Landé factor g C ≈ 2 of the ground state of the Ho3+ ion in HoAl 3 (BO 3) 4 in the trigonal axis direction was determined.
