Abstract

CNx thin films were subjected to an electron energy loss spectroscopy analysis. Results, which covered structure, bonding and composition, were used for an extended energy loss fine structure spectroscopy examination on interatomic distances. Results of the extended study indicate the presence of a high frequency component with an approximate interatomic distance of 7.3 A.

Abstract

The decomposition process of melamine exposed to a high-energy electron beam has been investigated by monitoring the changes in the energy loss near edge structures (ELNES) using time-resolved electron energy loss spectroscopy. Calculations on different CN-containing molecules were performed in order to simulate the experimental ELNES observed at the different decomposition stages and to identify some of the intermediate compounds produced during this degradation process. As a result, we suggest that the amino groups are first eliminated as a release of N2 gas. Then, the degradation of the molecule occurs through a reduction of the carbon−nitrogen double bonds. If the irradiation is maintained over longer periods, the formation of different CN fragments could then be possible.

13. The climb of a/2〈110〉 dislocations associated with discontinuous precipitation in a copper-silver alloy

Abstract

On examining the discontinuous precipitation associated with the climb of the unit dislocation a/2〈110〉 in a precipitation-annealed copper-silver alloy it was shown that unit dislocations affected by a chemical force climb predominantly on distinct crystallographic planes of the types {110} and {111}, the most favoured being that {110} plane which is perpendicular to the Burgers vector of the climbing dislocation. The vacancy-emitting climb in question is not strictly bound to the planes of easy climb, however, but proceeds locally on non-crystallographic planes also.
