Abstract

In the present study, air quality analyses for ozone (O3) were conducted in Ahvaz, a city in the south of Iran. The measurements were taken from 2009 through 2010 in two different locations to prepare average data in the city. Relations between the air pollutant and some meteorological parameters were calculated statistically using the daily average data. The wind data (velocity, direction), relative humidity, temperature, sunshine hours, evaporation and rainfall were considered as independent variables. The relationships between concentration of pollutant and meteorological parameters were expressed by multiple linear and nonlinear regression equations for both annual and seasonal conditions using SPSS software. RMSE test showed that among different prediction model, stepwise model is the best option. The average concentrations were calculated for every 24 hours, each month and each season. Results showed that the highest concentration of ozone occurs generally in the afternoon, while the least concentration is found at the beginning of the morning. Monthly concentrations of ozone showed the highest value in August, while the least value was found in October. The seasonal concentrations showed the highest amounts in summer.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Given the recent increasing trends in colorectal cancer incidence globally, up-to-date information on the colorectal cancer burden could guide screening, early detection, and treatment strategies, and help effectively allocate resources. We examined the temporal patterns of the global, regional, and national burden of colorectal cancer and its risk factors in 204 countries and territories across the past three decades. Methods: Estimates of incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for colorectal cancer were generated as a part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 by age, sex, and geographical location for the period 1990–2019. Mortality estimates were produced using the cause of death ensemble model. We also calculated DALYs attributable to risk factors that had evidence of causation with colorectal cancer. Findings: Globally, between 1990 and 2019, colorectal cancer incident cases more than doubled, from 842 098 (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 810 408–868 574) to 2·17 million (2·00–2·34), and deaths increased from 518 126 (493 682–537 877) to 1·09 million (1·02–1·15). The global age-standardised incidence rate increased from 22·2 (95% UI 21·3–23·0) per 100 000 to 26·7 (24·6–28·9) per 100 000, whereas the age-standardised mortality rate decreased from 14·3 (13·5–14·9) per 100 000 to 13·7 (12·6–14·5) per 100 000 and the age-standardised DALY rate decreased from 308·5 (294·7–320·7) per 100 000 to 295·5 (275·2–313·0) per 100 000 from 1990 through 2019. Taiwan (province of China; 62·0 [48·9–80·0] per 100 000), Monaco (60·7 [48·5–73·6] per 100 000), and Andorra (56·6 [42·8–71·9] per 100 000) had the highest age-standardised incidence rates, while Greenland (31·4 [26·0–37·1] per 100 000), Brunei (30·3 [26·6–34·1] per 100 000), and Hungary (28·6 [23·6–34·0] per 100 000) had the highest age-standardised mortality rates. Abstract

The current study presents an incentive contract model to allocate income to venture projects. In this respect, Venture Capital (VC), as one of the main sources of financing innovative projects, faces several challenges such as moral hazards, information asymmetry, and interest con icts, often referred to as three agency problems. In addition to the identifycation of the factors that may affect the income of venture projects and elaboration of cost functions, this study presented an optimal incentive contract model from the perspectives of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. In this model, a venture capitalist, as an active investor, provides entrepreneurs with managerial and training assistance. The results revealed that the higher the initial ability of the entrepreneur was, the less money the venture capitalist would pay for training. Of note, in case the venture contract was not accepted, the wealth that the contract parties would obtain would become an in uential factor in the contract payment function. This model was studied considering the bounded rationality hypothesis and implemented using the Q-learning algorithm. Abstract

Kidney diseases are divided into two: acute and chronic sub-groups that lasted less and more than three months, respectively. Chronic Kidney Diseases which is known as CKD is a gradual kidney dysfunction that leads to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a condition that kidney stops to work properly and needs to be treated by transplant or dialysis. ESRD accompanies with reduced Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) that according to reduction of kidney filtration rate, it is classified into five stages. Kidney damages resulted in various direct and indirect dysfunctions, such as proteinuria, albuminuria, metabolic acidosis or even stroke, white matter diseases, intracerebral microbleeds and cognitive impairment.

Abstract

Angioedema secondary to C1 inhibitor deficiency has been rarely reported to be associated with systemic lupus erythematosus. A genetic defect of C1 inhibitor produces hereditary angioedema, which is usually presented with cutaneous painless edema, but edema of the genital area, gastrointestinal and laryngeal tracts have also been reported. In lupus patients, angioedema may be the result of an acquired type of C1 inhibitor deficiency, most probably due to antibody formation directed against the C1 inhibitor molecule. Herein we report a new case of lupus nephritis that developed angioedema and a rapid course of disease progression with acute renal failure and alveolar hemorrhage without response to high dose steroid and plasmapheresis.

Abstract

Monitoring coastal areas is an important parameter in the sustainable development and protection of the environment. The expansion of constructions in Iran's southern coasts has not only led to the destruction of geomorphological landforms, but has also changed the process of erosion and sedimentation in coastal areas. Nowadays, remote sensing data are considered as the most efficient source of information for the study and interpretation of coastal landforms, tidal levels, changes in coastline, depth of water, and so forth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the coastline of Chabahar Gulf, located on the coasts of the Oman Sea by using remote sensing techniques. This study examined and interpreted qualitative and quantitative changes of the coastlines in a forty-two-year period. Different supervised classification methods were used from which the most accurate one was ultimately chosen. The classified images were divided into two classes of land and water, and the changes of these two classes between 1972 and 2014 were extracted. The net change results indicate that in the forty-two-year period, 1,832,436 m(2) of the land has been added to water class, and 7,004,844 m(2) of water has been added to land., QC 20171016

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find the best location for establishment of rainbow trout culture and hatcheries farms on Zayanderood’s river region in Charmahal and Bakhtiyari province. This survey carried out over ten station along Zayanderood’s river. The result of physical and chemical analysis showd that the annual average of air temperature varied from 9.5oc o 10oc wehre the pH annual average value were between 7.5 and 8.8. the dissolve oxygen concentration in stations except in rainbow trout farm effluent were above 10 mg/l. the other chemical , pollutant as well as pesticides levels were under the limiting concentration for rainbow trout culture and Hatcheries activity . The plankton survey showed that the Bacillurophyta were the dominant group of phytoplankton where protozoa constituted the most abundant group of zooplankton the Benthic organisms sensitive to pollutant in particular Epirus were dominant group in all stations . In regard to fishes presence in river , five species of Ciprinidae , one species from Balitoridae and one species from salmonidae families were identified . The capacity for development of rainbow trout culture for tow phase period in Zayanderood’s river region with respect to self purification potential (self purification potential were determined from the oxidation of the effluent of the only active trout farm of the river region), minimum of 10 L/s water requirement for production of trout in concrete canal and pond system and 1L/S water need for production in semi circular closed system were estimated to be 5202 metric tons. Abstract

Summary: During summer of 2015, Eucalyptus camaldulensis plants showing witches’ broom, little leaf and general yellowing of the foliage were observed in west of Fars and Khozestan province of Iran. DNA from samples of 22 symptomatic and two asymptomatic trees was extracted and subjected to molecular analyses. Nested‐PCR test using R16F2n/R16R2 primers confirmed phytoplasma presence in 63% of symptomatic Eucalyptus plants. Sequence analysis along with virtual RFLP of the 16S ribosomal DNA allowed to classify three Eucalyptus witches’ broom strains into the “stolbur” (“Candidatus phytoplasma solani”) 16SrXII‐A subgroup. Comparison of the secA and secY gene sequences with sequences deposited in GenBank confirmed the phytoplasma identity. Real and virtual RFLPs of the amplified secY gene using HaeIII, MseI and RsaI restriction enzymes showed profiles indistinguishable from each other. 20. Helicopter emergency medical service in fars province: the referral trauma center of South of iran

Abstract

Background Considering the limited available resources, high cost of the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS), and high load of trauma patients especially in our centers, a careful assessment of HEMS in our center seemed to be necessary for trauma patients. Methods From April 2001 to September 2007, the data of all patients transferred by HEMS were extracted including: Annual number of services, clinical category, number of proper or improper services, and rescue time for HEMS and ground ambulance. The criteria for the properly transferred group included: Death or being operated in the first 24 hours of admission, admission in ICU care units, and transfer of more than three patients in one mission. Others were considered as improper group. Results In this period through 185 flights, 225 victims were transferred. The most common reason of HEMS dispatching was trauma. The most difference of rescue time between ground ambulance and HEMS was recorded in Lamerd that was transferring patients with HEMS needed 3 hours less than ground ambulance. However, in Sarvestan, Dashte-Arjan, and Marvdasht, transferred patients with ground ambulance needed less time than air transfer. Most of transferred patients were from Kazeroon, Nourabad and Lamerd respectively while 46.3% of patients were in the proper group, and the rest were considered as improper group. Conclusion Our study revealed that helicopter dispatch to the cities like Lamerd, Lar, Khonj, Abadeh can be more effective, whereas, for the towns like Marvdasht, Dashte-Arjan, Sarvestan, Sepidan, Saadatshar, Tang Abolhayat use of HEMS should be limited to specific conditions. Our study showed inclusion of physicians in the decision making team increased the number of transferred cases.

Abstract

Hepatocyte nuclear factor 6 (HNF-6) is the prototype of a family of tissue-specific transcription factors characterized by a bipartite DNA-binding domain consisting of a single cut domain and a novel type of homeodomain. We have previously cloned rat cDNA species coding for two isoforms, HNF-6alpha (465 residues) and beta (491 residues), which differ only by the length of the spacer between the two DNA-binding domains. We have now localized the rat Hnf6 gene to chromosome 8q24-q31 by Southern blotting of DNA from somatic cell hybrids and by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Cloning and sequencing of the rat gene showed that the two HNF-6 isoforms are generated by alternative splicing of three exons that are more than 10 kb apart from each other. Exon 1 codes for the N-terminal part and the cut domain, exon 2 codes for the 26 HNF-6beta-specific amino acids, and exon 3 codes for the homeodomain and the C-terminal amino acids. The transcription initiation site was mapped by ribonuclease protection and 5' rapid amplification of cDNA ends. Transfection experiments showed that promoter activity was contained within 0.75 kb upstream of the transcription initiation site. This activity was detected by the transfection of liver-derived HepG2 cells, but not of Rat-1 fibroblasts, suggesting that the promoter is sufficient to confer liver-specific expression.

Abstract

Background: Ethnopharmacology have been seen as a multidisciplinary approach for novel drug discovery. The main aim of this ethnopharmacological study was to identify the medicinal plants of the Helleh River region in the northern Persian Gulf area. Material and Methods: The ethnopharmacological data were gathered from 61 local informants by face to face interviews. The relative frequency of citation (FRC) and cultural importance (CI) indices were calculated. Results: A total of 63 medicinal plants belonging to 36 families were identified. Cichorium intybus, Achilleaeriophora DC, Plantagopsylliumand Malva parviflora had the highest cultural importance index. Ahilleaeriophora DC, Alhagi camelorum, Citrullus colocynthis, Plantagopsylliumand Malva parviflora had the highest FRC index, respectively. The highest application was for gasterointestinal diseases, nature of warm, respiratory disorders, infectious diseases and metabolic disorders, respectively. Conclusion: A vast variety of medicinal plants are used for different disorders in the Helleh River area which are very compatible with medicinal uses in other parts of Iran. The traditional uses of Plantagopsyllium for respiratory problems and drainage of infective boils, Achilleaeriophora DC for diabetes mellitus and abdominal pain, Malva parviflora for respiratory infections and Citrullus colocynthis for hemorrhoids, are promising for discovery of novel drugs for clinical applications. 38. Detection of Extended Spectrum Β-Lactamases in Urinary Isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in Relation to BlaSHV, BlaTEM and BlaCTX-M Gene Carriage.

Abstract

Background: Resistance to contemporary broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotics mediated by extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) is increasing worldwide. Klebsiella pneumoniae, an important cause of nosocomial and community acquired urinary tract infections has rapidly become the most common ESBL producing organism. We examined ESBL production in urinary isolates of K. pneumoniae in relation to the presence of blaSHV, blaTEM and blaCTX-M genes. Methods: Antibiotic resistance of 51 clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae was determined to amoxicillin, amikacin, ceftazidime, cefotaxime, cefteriaxon, ceftizoxime, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin and nitrofurantoin by disc diffusion. Minimum inhibitory concentrations were also measured for ceftazidime, cefotaxime, cefteriaxon, ceftizoxime and ciprofloxacin. ESBL production was detected by the double disc synergy test and finally, presence of the blaSHV, blaTEM and blaCTX-M genes were shown using specific primers and PCR. Results: Disc diffusion results showed that 96.08 % of the isolates were resistant to amoxicillin followed by 78.43 % resistance to nitrofurantoin, 49.02 % to amikacin and ceftazidime, 41.17 % to ceftriaxone, 37.25% resistance to cefotaxime and ceftizoxime, and 29.42 % to gentamicin and ciprofloxacin. Both resistant and intermediately resistant organisms were resistant in MIC determinations. Twenty two isolates (43.14%) carried blaSHV, 18 (35.29%) had blaTEM and 16 (31.37%) harbored blaCTX-M genes. ESBL production was present in 14 isolates (27.45 %) of which, 3 did not harbor any of the 3 genes. Among the non- ESBL producers, 9 lacked all 3 genes and 2 carried them all. Abstract

We report the synthesis of a new class of symmetric and unsymmetric oxamide-based dinuclear ruthenium complexes. These complexes were characterized by NMR, ESI-MS, and electrochemical methods. Spectroelectrochemical analysis of the complexes showed broad absorptions in the NIR region for the mixed-valence state of the complexes. The introduction of a chiral group into the bridging ligand produced an optically active complex that was studied using circular dichroism.

40. A Solution- and Solid-Phase Approach to Tetrahydroquinoline-Derived Polycyclics Having a 10-Membered Ring

Abstract

With the goal of library generation using a polycyclic derivative 5 having an enamide functional group, a simple and practical, enantioselective synthesis of tetrahydroquinoline derivative 2 was achieved. The phenolic hydroxyl group in compound 2 was utilized as an anchoring site for solid-phase synthesis. The ring closing metathesis approach yielded the desired polycyclic product 5 on solid phase in five steps (overall 40% yield). Compound 5 is a novel scaffold for the library generation of natural product-like polycyclics having a functionalized medium ring for obtaining a new class of small molecules to be utilized as chemical probes.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Given the recent increasing trends in colorectal cancer incidence globally, up-to-date information on the colorectal cancer burden could guide screening, early detection, and treatment strategies, and help effectively allocate resources. We examined the temporal patterns of the global, regional, and national burden of colorectal cancer and its risk factors in 204 countries and territories across the past three decades. Methods: Estimates of incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for colorectal cancer were generated as a part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 by age, sex, and geographical location for the period 1990-2019. Mortality estimates were produced using the cause of death ensemble model. We also calculated DALYs attributable to risk factors that had evidence of causation with colorectal cancer. Findings: Globally, between 1990 and 2019, colorectal cancer incident cases more than doubled, from 842 098 (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 810 408-868 574) to 2·17 million (2·00-2·34), and deaths increased from 518 126 (493 682-537 877) to 1·09 million (1·02-1·15). The global age-standardised incidence rate increased from 22·2 (95% UI 21·3-23·0) per 100 000 to 26·7 (24·6-28·9) per 100 000, whereas the age-standardised mortality rate decreased from 14·3 (13·5-14·9) per 100 000 to 13·7 (12·6-14·5) per 100 000 and the age-standardised DALY rate decreased from 308·5 (294·7-320·7) per 100 000 to 295·5 (275·2-313·0) per 100 000 from 1990 through 2019. Taiwan (province of China; 62·0 [48·9-80·0] per 100 000), Monaco (60·7 [48·5-73·6] per 100 000), and Andorra (56·6 [42·8-71·9] per 100 000) had the highest age-standardised incidence rates, while Greenland (31·4 [26·0-37·1] per 100 000), Brunei (30·3 [26·6-34·1] per 100 000), and Hungary (28·6 [23·6-34·0] per 100 000) had the highest age-standardised mortality rates. Abstract

Introduction: Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease that involves growth of endometrial tissue outside its normal location. It seems that genetic factors have an important role in the pathophysiology of endometriosis. In addition, there are reports suggesting a role for environmental pollutants in developing endometriosis. GSTT1 is one of the phase II enzymes involved in detoxification of some environmental carcinogens. Materials and Methods: Genomic DNA from 95 patients with endometriosis and 141 healthy controls was collected. GSTT1 null genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Results: Frequency of GSTT1 null deletion in both patients and controls was 22%, which shows no significant difference between two groups (p=0.983).
