21. Feedforward Neural Network-Based Data Aggregation Scheme for Intrabody Area Nanonetworks.

Abstract

An intrabody area nanonetwork (intra-BANN) is a set of nanoscale devices, which have outstanding cellular level precision and accuracy for enabling noninvasive healthcare monitoring and disease diagnosis. In this article, we design a novel feedforward neural networks (FFNNs) based data aggregation scheme that integrates the attributes of artificial intelligence to boost the computational intelligence of intra-BANNs for prolonged network lifetime. In the proposed scheme, data division and labeling are performed to transmit detected information using two different types of packets with different sizes to save energy resources and to avoid redundant data transmission. FFNN-based periodic data transmission exploits the fitness function approximation characteristics of FFNN to increase the transmission probability of critical information with minimum energy consumption and delay, whereas our proposed event-driven data transmission also ensures the transmission of high priority data with minimal delay and storage overhead. The detailed evaluation and comparison of our proposed framework with three existing schemes conducted using the Nano-Sim tool highlight that our proposed scheme performs 50%–60% better than state-of-the-art schemes in terms of residual energy, delay, and packet loss. Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the feasibility of smart metering system based on narrowband power line communications (NB‐PLC) by using low‐voltage (LV) and medium‐voltage (MV) power line channels. The LV and MV networks of two different sites are selected to carry out comprehensive field measurements to investigate the characteristics of NB‐PLC channels for narrowband frequencies. The NB‐PLC channels of both sites are classified into two categories, that is, bad and good channels of LV and MV networks by considering their characteristics and performance. On the basis of measured results, the simulation models for the modeling of LV and MV NB‐PLC channels are developed and thus proposed. The measured and simulated results are compared to validate the efficiency of proposed methods. A state of the art mechanism for the modelling of capacitative coupling device and impedances of LV and MV networks is developed. It is proposed that simulation‐based NB‐PLC channel models and analyses can play a vital role in examining the residential and industrial types of channels. Abstract

In this paper, we present an energy optimization technique to schedule three types of household appliances (user dependent, interactive schedulable and unschedulable) in response to the dynamic behaviours of customers, electricity prices and weather conditions. Our optimization technique schedules household appliances in real time to optimally control their energy consumption, such that the electricity bills of end users are reduced while not compromising on user comfort. More specifically, we use the binary multiple knapsack problem formulation technique to design an objective function, which is solved via the constraint optimization technique. Simulation results show that average aggregated energy savings with and without considering the human presence control system are 11.77% and 5.91%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
