Abstract: Here we have investigated the influence of external electric field and magnetic field on the nonlinear optical rectification of a parabolic confinement wire in the presence of Rashba spin–orbit interaction. We have used density matrix formulation for obtaining optical properties within the effective mass approximation. The results are presented as a function of quantum wire radius, electric field, magnetic field, Rashba spin–orbit interaction strength and photon energy. Our results indicate an increase of electric field gives the red-shift of the peak positions of nonlinear optical rectification. The role of confinement strength and spin–orbit interaction strength as control parameters on this nonlinear property have been demonstrated. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

We have used density matrix formulation for obtaining optical properties within the effective mass approximation. Our results indicate an increase of electric field redshifts the peak positions of absorption coefficient and refractive index changes. Abstract: We study the energy dispersion relations of the spin split subbands in a quantum wire subjected to external transverse electric and magnetic fields in the presence of Rashba spin orbit interaction. For an infinite superlattice wire, we find that the energy gaps between different subbands are shifted due to Rashba spin orbit interaction and external electric field. We have also determined the electron g-factor for various subbands in quantum wire and it is shown that the g-factor is strongly affected by the combined effects of external electric field, magnetic field and Rashba spin orbit interaction strength. Abstract: A spin accumulation effect (SAE) is induced in a semiconductor nanoring with Rashba spin orbit interaction and pierced by a magnetic flux. We show that when the sample is not perfectly symmetric, the profile of the SAE can be highly inhomogeneous along specific orientations. In particular, we analyze the anisotropy generated in the angular profile by a finite eccentricity. We discuss the feasibility of detecting the effect with usual magneto optical techniques for a number of electrons and values of magnetic fluxes experimentally accessible. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: We have investigated the influence of the quantum well (QW) thickness for the gate controlled Rashba spin orbit interaction (SOI) in InP/In0.8Ga0.2As/In0.52Al0.48As asymmetric QWs from the analysis of the weak antilocalization. We prepared two different samples with 5 and 10nm In0.8Ga0.2As QWs. Gate bias dependence of the Rashba SOI parameter α shows inverse dependence between 5 and 10nm QWs, where the α for 5nm QW increases while that for 10nm QW decreases with increasing the gate bias voltage. By comparing the obtained α with the interface and the field contributions of Rashba SOI calculated by the k · p formalism, the opposite dependence of the α is resulted in the enhancement of the interface contribution in 5nm QW due to the large electron probability at the InP/In0.8Ga0.2As interface, whereas the dominant contribution for the α is originated from the In0.8Ga0.2As field contribution in 10nm QW.
