Aim of the study. The emergence of digital technologies, eases the work of the dental technician and reduces the actual working time in reproduction the dental morphology, but at the same time, the use of a large number of devices can increase the degree of error of the final restoration in the absence of appropriate adjustments. For this reason, this study made a comparison between the classic wax-up method and the digital one to see the degree of accuracy now. Materials and methods. Starting from a model with intact morphology in the area of maxillary premolars and molars, the removal of the upper 1st molar and the grinding of the neighboring teeth were carried out. The restoration of the morphology was carried out by analog but also digital wax-up. Analysis was performed in 26 landmarks and relevant statistical differences were checked using Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney tests. Results. Aim of the study. The aim of the current study was to analyze and compare the registration of the occlusal contact points using three intraoral scanners and articulation paper. Material and methods. The static occlusal contact points in maximum intercuspation of ten subjects (3 women and 7 men), were analyzed using three different scanners: Cerec Omnicam (CEREC® Sirona, Germany), Medit i700 (MEDIT® Seoul, Republic of Korea), Trios 3 (3-SHAPE® Copenhagen, Denmark) and articulating paper 200 μm (Dr. Jean Bausch Gmbh & Co. KG, Germany). All the contact points obtained on each arch were counted and statistically evaluated. Results. The highest number of contacts was identified with Omnicam Scan (564 contact points) followed by the contacts obtained with occlusal paper (528 contact points). Contact obtained with Medit i700 were 483 and the fewest points of contact were identified with Trios 3 (477 contact points). However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the different types of examination (p> 0,005). Conclusions. Intraoral cameras represent a useful and reliable tool for the analysis of occlusal contact points. However, for the precise diagnosis and treatment of occlusal imbalance, a correlation between the conventional and digital methods of occlusal analysis may provide superior results.

Contemporary dentistry focuses on maintaining optimal oral health by gaining a functional and aesthetic equilibrium. Centric relation (CR) serves as an essential reference position for the accomplishment of complex dental restorations, ensuring harmonious integration within the dental arch in both static and dynamic occlusion. This study aimed at assessing centric relation and maximum intercuspation in specific clinical cases and at identifying the factors influencing dentists’ decisions to refrain from using CR position. Methods: A twenty-six-item customized survey was distributed to one hundred and ten Romanian dentists, aged over twenty and having a wide range of professional backgrounds and experience levels. The questionnaire was structured into the following sections: socio-demographic data, commonly performed types of oral rehabilitations, procedural complexity, and participants’ preferences regarding the reference position for prosthetic rehabilitations. Results: When performing complex restorations, CR was used as the reference position (71.8%) by most of the participants. 60% of them considered maximum intercuspation (MI) easier to record and reproduce compared to CR position. The primary reasons participants avoided using the CR were the lack of experience in performing the manipulation techniques (10.46%), in recording this reference position (9.88%), and insufficient practice with the articulators or face bows (10.46%). The distribution of occlusal contacts in CR was mainly assessed using articulating paper (47%), or digital devices such as an intraoral scanner (23%). To record CR, hard wax (38%) or addition silicone (33%) were the materials of choice. Conclusions: Most dentists engage in complex prosthetic rehabilitations, and commonly use centric relation to achieve predictable outcomes, avoiding the risk of failures associated with oral rehabilitations.

Acupuncture has shown promise as a therapeutic option in temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Its benefits include pain relief, reduction of muscle tension and improvement of jaw function. Several alternative approaches, including dry needling and laser acupuncture, were also reported to improve TMD symptoms. This review aims to summarise the most recent studies available on these alternative therapies for TMD. An electronic literature search was conducted in 3 databases, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, in order to identify articles on acupuncture, dry needling, or laser acupuncture. Search development, process, and two-step article selection were conducted by independent researchers. Data was extracted regarding study characteristics, population characteristics, acupuncture points or techniques used, and assessment methods for diagnosis and effects. Out of 431 identified results, 20 were selected for inclusion. We identified 11 studies on acupuncture, 3 studies on laser acupuncture and 6 studies on dry needling. Most studies showed improvement of TMD symptoms post-intervention, assessed by pain scales and maximum mouth opening. Overall, most studies showed promising results for acupuncture as an alternative, minimally invasive treatment method for TMD. When compared to controls or placebo, acupuncture, and related techniques result in significant relief of TMD symptoms.

Scopul acest studiu a fost de a revizui literatura de specialitate vizavi de leziunile cervicale noncarioase (LCNC). Material şi metodă. Articole relevante au fost căutate elctronic în bazele de date Pubmed şi Embase, după următoarele asocieri de cuvinte cheie: „leziuni cervicale noncarioase“, „uzură dentară“, „abfracţie“, „stres ocluzal“, „ocluzie dentară“. Studiul a inclus articole scrise în limba engleză publicate între anii 1991 şi 2020. Rezultate. Căutarea iniţială a generat 186 de articole, dintre care doar 69 au fost incluse în studiu, ele îndeplinind criteriile de includere. Leziunile cervicale noncarioase au o etiologie multifactorială, ceea ce implică un examen clinic oral minuţios realizat şi un plan de tratament corect. Concluzii. Nu există o confirmare specifică a strategiilor de tratament autentice şi de succes pentru aceste leziuni de abfracţie. Cu toate acestea, literatura de specialitate pune un accent deosebit pe examinarea clinică complexă (cu scopul de a identifica factorii etiologici ai LCNC), asociată cu elaborarea unui plan de tratament adaptat diagnosticului complet al pacientului.
