Abstract

Proton conducting solid polymer electrolytes of Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) complexed with Tetramethylammonium Chloride (TMACl) have been prepared by means of solution casting process. The complex formation between the polymer PEO and TMACl is evident from the changes in COC, CH stretching and CH2 rocking FTIR vibrational modes. The COC stretching and deformation bandwidth and intensity around 1100 cm-1 is decreased severally with increasing salt content to PEO, and this change in complexed films is due to the interaction between the PEO polymer chain and proton of TMACL molecule. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) results show that the PEO melting temperature is at 69 °C, which is shifted towards lower temperature with the addition of 's polarization technique, it is confirmed that the charge transport in these polymer electrolyte films is predominantly due to ions. Abstract

Solid polymer electrolyte system, Polyethylene Oxide (PEO) complexed with potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3) salt has been prepared by solution-cast technique. Several experimental techniques such as IR, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), composition dependence conductivity, temperature dependence conductivity in the temperature range of 308-368 K and transport number measurements have been employed to characterize this polymer electrolyte system. The conductivity of the (PEO+KHCO3) electrolyte is about 103 times larger than that of pure PEO at room temperature. The transference data has shown that the charge transport in these polymer electrolyte systems is predominantly due to ions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
