Background Currently, wearable sensors significantly impact health care through continuous monitoring and event prediction. The types and clinical applications of wearable technology for the prevention of mental illnesses, as well as associated health authority rules, are covered in the current review.Summary The technologies behind wearable ECG monitors, biosensors, electronic skin patches, neural interfaces, retinal prosthesis, and smart contact lenses were discussed. We described how sensors will examine neuronal impulses using verified machine-learning algorithms running in real-time. These sensors will closely monitor body signals and demonstrate continuous sensing with wireless functionality. The wearable applications in the following medical fields were covered in our review: sleep, neurology, mental health, anxiety, depression, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, seizures, and schizophrenia. These mental health conditions can cause serious issues, even death. Inflammation brought on by mental health problems can worsen hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction and interfere with certain neuroregulatory systems such as the neural peptide Y, serotonergic, and cholinergic systems. Severe depressive disorder symptoms are correlated with elevated Interleukin (IL-6) levels. On the basis of previous and present data collected utilizing a variety of sensory modalities, researchers are currently investigating ways to identify or detect the current mental state.Key message This review explores the potential of various mental health monitoring technologies. The types and clinical uses of wearable technology, such as ECG monitors, biosensors, electronic skin patches, brain interfaces, retinal prostheses, and smart contact lenses, were covered in the current review will be beneficial for patients with mental health problems like Alzheimer, epilepsy, dementia. The sensors will closely monitor bodily signals with wireless functionality while using machine learning algorithms to analyse neural impulses in real time.

Background Ischemic stroke is one of the prevalent neurodegenerative disorders; it is generally characterized by sudden abruption of blood flow due to thromboembolism and vascular abnormalities, eventually impairing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain for its metabolic needs. Oxygen-glucose deprived conditions provoke the release of excessive glutamate, which causes excitotoxicity.Summary Recent studies suggest that circulatory angiotensin-II (Ang-II) has an imperative role in initiating detrimental events through binding central angiotensin 1 (AT1) receptors. Insufficient energy metabolites and essential ions often lead to oxidative stress during ischemic reperfusion, which leads to the release of proinflammatory mediators such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and cytokines like interleukin-18 (IL-18) and interleukin- 1beta (IL-1β). The transmembrane glutamate transporters, excitatory amino acid transporter-2 (EAAT-2), which express in astroglial cells, have a crucial role in the clearance of glutamate from its releasing site and convert glutamate into glutamine in normal circumstances of brain physiology.Key Message During cerebral ischemia, an impairment or dysfunction of EAAT-2 attributes the risk of delayed neuronal cell death. Earlier studies evidencing that angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) attenuate neuroinflammation by inhibiting the Ang-II/AT1 receptor-mediated inflammatory pathway and that ceftriaxone ameliorates the excitotoxicity-induced neuronal deterioration by enhancing the transcription and expression of EAAT-2 via the nuclear transcriptional factor kappa-B (NF-kB) signaling pathway. The present review will briefly discuss the mechanisms involved in Ang-II/AT1-mediated neuroinflammation, ceftriaxone-induced EAAT-2 expression, and the repurposing hypothesis of the novel combination of ARBs and ceftriaxone for the treatment of cerebral ischemia.

This study emphasizes the synthesis of hybrid aluminum composite reinforced with SiC and Snail Shell (S-Shell) particles through the powder metallurgy technique. The hybrid composite corresponding to the optimized volume fraction of SiC and Snail shell powder (Al-6%SiC-6%S-Shell) was subjected to microwave-assisted sintering (MAS) by varying the sintering temperatures from 400°C to 550°C in steps of 50°C. Results concluded that microwave-sintered composites show superior mechanical characteristics than the composites sintered through conventional sintering techniques. The maximum ultimate tensile strength (U.T.S) of 316 MPa, and compression strength of 396 MPa were obtained for microwave sintered Al-6%SiC-6%Snail shell powder composite sintered at 500°C. However, increasing the sintering temperature above 500°C leads to a reduction in U.T.S and Compression strength due to the formation of coarse grains by absorbing the microwaves at higher temperatures. The U.T.S, Compression strength and Vickers hardness of the microwave sintered Al-6%SiC-6%Snail shell powder hybrid composite sintered at 500°C was enhanced by 42.08%, 42.4%, and 35.5% compared to conventionally sintered hybrid composite. The grain size was found to be increased with an increase in microwave sintering temperature due to the enhancement in the absorption capability of the microwaves with the temperature rise. The results of this study also suggest that choosing materials with a high microwave response helps to achieve improved mechanical properties for microwave-sintered composites.

Background The typology of word order in Hindi (Subject-Object-Verb, SOV) differs from that of English (Subject-Verb-Object, SVO). Bilinguals whose two languages have conflicting word order provide a unique opportunity to understand how word order affects language processing. Earlier behavioural and event-related brain potential (ERP) studies with Spanish-Basque bilinguals showed longer reading times and more errors in the comprehension of OSV sentences than SOV sentences in Basque language, indicating that non-canonical word orders (OSV) were difficult to process than canonical word order (SOV).Purpose This study was designed to explore how the difference in word order in Hindi and English languages affects N400 parameters in proficient Hindi−English bilinguals, using semantic congruity paradigm.Methods Twenty-five proficient Hindi−English bilingual subjects were asked to silently read the congruent and incongruent sentences presented in one word at a time in both the languages. ERPs were recorded from midline frontal, central and parietal sites.Results The mean amplitude of the N400 effect at the parietal sites in Hindi−English proficient bilinguals was larger for English than for Hindi but there was no significant difference in the N400 latencies.Conclusion Hindi−English bilingual subjects processed SOV and SVO sentences with equal ease as evidenced by the N400 latencies. Higher amplitude of the N400 effect with English sentences indicate that placing ‘Object’ as the final word makes sentences more predictable than verb as the final word. Understanding the word order difference might help to unravel the neurophysiological mechanisms of language comprehension and may offer some insights in terms of functional advantage of a particular word order in bilinguals.

In the present study, A functionally graded cylinder subjected to internal pressure has been analyzed using the finite element method based software ANSYS. The variations of properties of the functionally graded material are considered based on a power-law function. The inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder are made of alumina and C45 steel respectively. The continuous composition of the two materials has been considered in the form of varying elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio along the radial direction as the power-law function. The result of present approach is compared with analytical result of available literature. The comparison represents good coincidence between analytical and numerical results and confirms the accuracy of solutions presented in the present approach for cylinder made up of FGM. Further the stress distribution of FGM made cylindrical shell for given pressure load conditions have analyzed. Stress distributions along the radial direction are studied. The obtained result shows that the property of FGMs has a significant influence to the deformation and stress distribution along the radial direction. Numerical results presented are useful for engineer to design a cylinder made of FGMs

Magnesium-based biodegradable implant materials for the osteosynthesis process (fixation or stabilizing of a fractured bone) are on the verge of being used clinically. However, the rapid degradation of magnesium-based materials in the physiological environment results in a loss of mechanical integrity before the complete healing of the fracture site. To address this issue, the present study used Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) nanoparticles to improve the in-vitro degradation resistance along with the mechanical strength and ductility of Magnesium. The Si3N4nanoparticles were homogeneously reinforced in the pure Magnesium matrix through the ultrasonic-assisted stir casting method. Moreover, the effect of Si3N4nanoparticles on microstructure, mechanical, in-vitro corrosion and bioactivity response of Mg/Si3N4nanocomposites was studied. Notably, the inclusion of 1.0 vol% Si3N4nanoparticles increased tensile strength by 1.4 times and ductility by two times. In addition, the elastic modulus of Mg/Si3N4nanocomposites is within the range of local cortical bone elastic modulus. In-vitro immersion experiments in simulated physiological fluids revealed a 2.2-fold reduction in degradation rate compared to pure Magnesium. Moreover, the addition of Si3N4nanoparticles enhanced the in-vitro bioactivity, as the surface of the nanocomposites showed a high needle-like Ca–P apatite layer with a 1.41 Ca/P ratio of the deposited layer close to hydroxyapatite's Ca/P ratio (1.64). Overall, this study provides the basis for the fabrication of stable yet completely biodegradable Mg/Si3N4nanocomposite bone implants for the osteosynthesis process.
