Abstract

A spatially homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi type V cosmological model of the universe for perfect fluid within the framework of Scale covariant theory of gravitation proposed by Canuto et al., is studied in view of a variable deceleration parameter which yields the average scale factor $a=sinh^{(1/n)}(\beta t)$ where $\beta$ and $n$ are constants. The solution represents a singular model of the universe. All physical and geometrical properties of the model are thoroughly studied. The time dependent deceleration parameter supports the recent observation. The model represents an accelerating phase for $01$, there is a phase transition from early deceleration to a present accelerating phase., Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures

Abstract

Clustering Transactions in sequence, temporal and time series databases is achieving an important attention from the database researchers and software industry. Significant research is carried out towards defining and validating the suitability of new similarity measures for sequence, temporal, time series databases which can accurately and efficiently find the similarity between user transactions in the given database to predict the user behavior. The distribution of items present in the transactions contributes to a great extent in finding the degree of similarity between them. This forms the key idea of the proposed similarity measure. The main objective of the research is to first design the efficient similarity measure which essentially considers the distribution of the items in the item set over the entire transaction data set and also considers the commonality of items present in the transactions, which is the major drawback in the Jaccard, Cosine, Euclidean similarity measures. We then carry out the analysis for worst case, the average case and best case situations. The Similarity measure designed is Gaussian based and preserves the properties of Gaussian function. Abstract

Biometric based authentication for secured access to resources has gained importance, due to their reliable, invariant and discriminating features. Palmprint is one such biometric entity. Prior to classification and identification registering a sample palmprint is an important activity. In this paper we propose a computationally effective method for automated registration of samples from PlolyU palmprint database. In our approach we preprocess the sample and trace the border to find the nearest point from center of sample. Angle between vector representing the nearest point and vector passing through the center is used for automated palm sample registration. Abstract

The present work demonstrates the determination of thorium (Th4+), zinc (Zn2+) and fluoride (F−) ions by employing a substituted tripodal terpyridine (TP) as a fluorescence sensor. The distinct fluorescence intensities of the free TP and TP‐M complexes (M=Zn2+or Th4+) with the same emission wavelength at 468 nm were observed in steady‐state photoluminescence (PL) spectra at pH 7.0 with a 1 : 3 ratio of metal to the ligand. A ratiometric dual fluorescence signals for Zn2+ and Th4+ were displayed by the probe TP at varied concentrations. Furthermore, the quantitative determination of F− ions was achieved through the addition of F− to the tripod‐terpyridine‐zinc complex (TP‐Zn2+) where the fluorescence intensity decreases gradually. Notably, the present work facilitates the LOD (limit of detection) as 1.1×10−10 M, 1.01×10−8 M and 3.18×10−10 M and further LOQ (limit of quantification) as 0.37×10−9 M, 0.33×10−7 M and 5.26×10−9 M for Zn2+, Th4+ and F− ions, respectively. The predicted absorption spectra of TP show HOMO to LUMO+2 electronic excitation at 358 nm whereas the complex TP‐Th4+ exhibits HOMO to LUMO+1 electronic excitation at 568 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Understanding of the transport in a Tokamak plasma is an important issue. Various mechanisms have been reported in the literature to relate the core phenomenon to edge phenomenon. Sawtooth and Mirnov oscillations caused by MHD instabilities are generally observed in Tokamak discharges. Observation of these effects in the visible radiation from outer edge may offer a possible means to understand the transport.Oscillations in the visible radiation from outer region of the plasma have been observed during recent Aditya discharges. Percentage modulation of these oscillations vary with the Lines of Sight (LOS) of the chords and surfaces on which they terminate. This has been found in both the low frequency (~1 kHz) oscillations that seem to correlate with sawteething in SXR signals and the higher frequency (~10 kHz) oscillations that correlate well with Mirnov signals indicative of m/n=2/1 mode rotation. This suggests that the extent to which the MHD instabilities in the central region of the plasma column are reflected in the edge radiation depends on the interaction of the plasma with the surface at the extremity of the LOS. The release of particle/ energy accompanying the MHD instabilities leads to a large influx of particles from such surfaces. Cross-bispectral analysis suggests that a mode (having frequency of ~20 kHz) is also generated due to the interaction of m/n=1/1 (~10 kHz, seen in SXR) and m/n=2/1 (~10 kHz, seen in Mirnov, Visible & Microwave Interferometer signals). By possible selection rules, this mode seems to be a m/n=3/2 mode. This mode is seen in Mirnov, Visible & Interferometer signals. Behaviour of these oscillations on various LOS and their relation to SXR&Mirnov signals can lead to an understanding of the transport phenomenon.
