3. Modeling and Exploration of Gain Competition Attacks in Optical Network-on-Chip Architectures

Abstract

Network-on-Chip (NoC) enables energy-efficient communication between numerous components in System-on-Chip architectures. The optical NoC is widely considered a key technology to overcome the bandwidth and energy limitations of traditional electrical on-chip interconnects. While optical NoC can offer high performance, they come with inherent security vulnerabilities due to the nature of optical interconnects. In this paper, we investigate the gain competition attack in optical NoCs, which can be initiated by an attacker injecting a high-power signal to the optical waveguide, robbing the legitimate signals of amplification. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed approach is the first attempt to investigate gain competition attacks as a security threat in optical NoCs. We model the attack and analyze its effects on optical NoC performance. We also propose potential attack detection techniques and countermeasures to mitigate the attack. Our experimental evaluation using different NoC topologies and diverse traffic patterns demonstrates the effectiveness of our modeling and exploration of gain competition attacks in optical NoC architectures., Comment: 6 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer in males is a rare disease with an estimated incidence of 0.5-1% of all breast cancer cases. However recent data show that incidence is slowly rising but epidemiological data regarding Male Breast Cancer is little as compared to Female Breast Cancer due to the rarity of this disease. It is mostly seen in elderly men in the 6th or 7th decade of life. They usually present at an advanced stage with a poor prognosis as compared to FBC. This study is aimed to analyze the epidemiologic, and clinicopathological behavior of male breast cancer patients. Methods: This work is the prospective work of 11 male breast cancer patients who were presented in department of General Surgery Rims, Ranchi during a period of 1 year. Data regarding clinical history, examination findings, family history, stage of the disease, histopathological examination and hormonal status were evaluated. Results: Results showed that male breast cancer occurs later in life with median age being 58.5 years. The average diagnosis delay was 6.6 months. Out of eleven patients, eight of them had involvement of the left breast while the other three had involvement of right side of breast. Invasive ductal carcinoma was the histological type found in nine cases. Ten patients presented an advanced stage of T4 while one patient presented at T3. Hormone receptors were positive in 81.8% cases. Conclusion: To conclude male breast cancer is a rare disease with multiple and varied risk factors. It is similar in clinical, histological and prognostic characteristic to breast cancer in women but also has varied characteristics. We suggest that for early diagnosis and enhanced prognosis, teaching self-breast examination in males, screening mammography and testing for familial predisposition shall be helpful in high risk groups. 38. Etiological Factors of Non Communicable Diseases Pertaining to Pranvaha and Raktavaha Srotas

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases are those which are not caused by infectious agents, these are the chronic diseases, which last for long periods. These are the major cause of adult mortality and morbidity worldwide. These diseases are identified by WHO as group 2 diseases -A category that aggregates the following conditions/ causes of death- Malignant neoplasia, Diabetes mellitus, endocrine disorders, respiratory diseases. According to WHO, there are four main types of non-communicable disease – cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory disease, cancers and diabetes. In Ayurveda, different types of nidana are mentioned which can be responsible for various diseases. Separate nidana are also mentioned according to different strotas. In Raktavaha stroto dushti nidana, aacharya Charak have mentioned “vidahiannapanani snighdhoshanani dravyanicha” i.e. intake of food and drink which is sharp and acidic in nature causes burning of natural smooth composition of rasa dhatu which results in formation of abnormal rakta dhatu and hence causes vitiation of raktavaha srotas. Like-wise in Pranvaha srotas dushti nidan it is mentioned that excessive indulgence of exercise and work out causes exhaustion and loss of normal smooth texture of pranvaha srotas. In modern science we can correlate vyadhis of these srotas with the cardiovascular and respiratory diseases on the resemblance with the symptoms.

39. ZENCO: Zero-bytes based ENCOding for Non-Volatile Buffers in On-Chip Interconnects.

Abstract

With multiple cores integrated on the same die, communication across cores is managed by on-chip interconnect called Network-on-Chip (NoC). Power and performance of these interconnect become a significant factor as the communication network has limitations of high network power consumption and delay. The buffers used in the NoC router consume a considerable amount of dynamic as well as static power. This paper attempts to reduce static power consumption by using Non-Volatile Memory technology based STT-RAM buffers. STT-RAM technology has the advantage of higher density and low leakage, but suffer from costly write operation, and weaker write endurance. These characteristics on whole impacts on the total network power consumption, network latency, and lifetime of the router. In this paper, we propose a compression technique at Network Interface, which is based on zero bytes present in data packets. We also propose a compression with the wear-leveling technique, which reduces the write variation in VCs to reduce uneven writes across the buffers. Experimental evaluation on full system simulator shows that proposed policy obtains 0.37 compression ratio and 63% reduction of total network flit. All these results in a significant decrease in total network power. The policies also show remarkable improvement in the lifetime with wear-leveling compression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease whichinvolve multiple joints of the body.The clinical symptoms of the Rheumatoid Arthritisresemble with Amavata described in Ayurvedic literature. In thisdisease, the vitiated Vatadosha and Ama spread all along the body and localisein kaphasthana likejoints and producing symptoms like pain, stiffness, swelling, tendernessetc.Treatment principle recommended are to correct the status of the digestive fireof the bodyand balance of Vata in the body. In this case, a male patient of 28 years old presented with the symptoms of inabilityto walk and stand without support associated with pain, swelling and stiffnessover multiple jointsalong with deformity of hands. Pain was assessed by Visual analogue score(VAS).The patient was admitted in IPD of the hospital andtreatedwith Ayurvedic medicines and Panchakarma therapy for 28 days. Remarkable improvement was seen in pain, swelling and stiffness after the treatment.

Abstract

Background: The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and severity of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) among habitual gutkha, areca nut, and pan chewers of Bihar population. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted of 3000 adult patients aged over 15 years who visited the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital. They were subjected to a thorough oral examination, and the bindings were recorded in the prescribed WHO Pro forma. Results: Our study revealed that the prevalence of OSMF was 1.6%. The prevalence among males was 2.60% and among females was 0.16%. All the 243 cases (100%) were associated with areca nut habits. Conclusion: Educating the population about the deleterious effects of the practice of tobacco and related habits on the body in general and the oral cavity. It is hoped that this study would serve as a reference for further epidemiological studies on the abovementioned lesion in this region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
