Abstract Background Generalized anxiety (GA) is showing a high prevalence among adolescents nowadays; investigations on influencing factors and potential mechanisms are important to inform intervention development. The present two-wave study investigated the ways in which family functioning predicted GA six months later among adolescents, by considering the mediating role of self-identity and cognitive flexibility. Methods Adolescents were recruited from 27 randomly selected classes in two secondary schools in Chongqing and Fujian Province, China. Survey questionnaires assessing family functioning, self-identity, cognitive flexibility and GA were obtained from 1223 adolescents (M age = 13.14, SD = 1.35) at two time points of the 6-month interval. Abstract Background Gonadotropin precisely controls mammalian reproductive activities. Systematic analysis of the mechanisms by which epigenetic modifications regulate the synthesis and secretion of gonadotropin can be useful for more precise regulation of the animal reproductive process. Previous studies have identified many differential m6A modifications in the GnRH-treated adenohypophysis. However, the molecular mechanism by which m6A modification regulates gonadotropin synthesis and secretion remains unclear. Results Herein, it was found that GnRH can promote gonadotropin synthesis and secretion by promoting the expression of FTO. Highly expressed FTO binds to Foxp2 mRNA in the nucleus, exerting a demethylation function and reducing m6A modification. After Foxp2 mRNA exits the nucleus, the lack of m6A modification prevents YTHDF3 from binding to it, resulting in increased stability and upregulation of Foxp2 mRNA expression, which activates the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway to promote gonadotropin synthesis and secretion. Conclusions Overall, the study reveals the molecular mechanism of GnRH regulating the gonadotropin synthesis and secretion through FTO-mediated m6A modification. The results of this study allow systematic interpretation of the regulatory mechanism of gonadotropin synthesis and secretion in the pituitary at the epigenetic level and provide a theoretical basis for the application of reproductive hormones in the regulation of animal artificial reproduction.

In this paper, a direct cooling pipe for hydrogen inside the marine hydrogen storage cylinder (HSC) was designed, and the cooling pipe was simulated and analyzed under different cooling structures and different cooling fluids using ANSYS(Fluent) 2022 R2. The simulation results show that the effect of different cooling fluids on the temperatures were nearly the same. The heat transfer coefficients, however, of various fluids were different, and the cooling temperature was also different after cooling for the same time. The cooling structures mainly affect the cooling rate of the hydrogen due to the contact area with hydrogen inside the HSC. Among the three structures investigated in this study, the cooling capacity of the spiral layout was increased by 0.85 % and 0.63 %, respectively, compared to the rectangular and wavy layout. The rectangular layout has the certain cooling effect, however, in comparison to the spiral tube structure, it has too many corners, which increases the hindering effect on the flow of cooling medium inside the tubes and affects the cooling efficiency. The wavy layout has the largest contact area, but it has the problems of uneven cooling and occupying a large amount of hydrogen storage space. Among the three structures, comprehensively speaking, the spiral layout is considered to be the optimal. The optimal performance parameters were determined by comparing the simulation results of the three layouts during cooling process with hydrogen charging being performed. The results show that the cooling pipe can achieve the hydrogen temperature to be controlled within 358 K before the hydrogen pressure in the HSC reaches 70 MPa, and the maximum temperature is 336.07 K was obtained after the completion of hydrogen filling. This paper gives technical information for optimizing the thermal performance and safety of the hydrogen fueling system.

Study region: The Poyang Lake is located in northern Jiangxi Province, which is the largest fresh water in China. The upstream connection with rivers and downstream access to the Yangtze River create seasonal hydrological regimes, resulting in over 100 seasonal lakes within the floodplain. These lakes provide important habitats for migratory birds to forage and nest during dry seasons, and contribute to floodwater regulation during wet seasons, maintaining lake ecosystem. Study focus: This study has combined laboratory experiments and numerical simulations to mechanically analyze the effect of the depth, width, slope of seasonal lakes, water level amplitude and dry season periods on water recharge patterns, exchange fluxes and solute transport characteristics at the sediment-water interface. New hydrological insights for the region: Reducing the lake area by 33% through adjustments in depth or slope significantly reduces solute transport range (12.81% and 6.5% within 120 min) and high velocity area. The sensitivity of the solute amount in the lakebed to depth is the highest, followed by slope and width. Decreasing water level amplitude during dry seasons increases the flow velocity within the beach, facilitating short-term solute transport towards the lakebed. Extending the duration of dry periods increases cumulative flux of solutes entering the lakebed. These findings contribute to the ecological restoration efforts in floodplains and water pollution control measures.

Abstract Climate policies can have a significant impact on the economy. However, these policies have often been associated with uncertainty. Quantitative assessment of the socioeconomic impact of climate policy uncertainty is equally or perhaps more important than looking at the policies themselves. Using a deep learning algorithm—the MacBERT model—this study constructed indices of Chinese climate policy uncertainty (CCPU) at the national, provincial and city levels for the first time. The CCPU indices are based on the text mining of news published by a set of major newspapers in China. A clear upward trend was found in the indices, demonstrating increasing policy uncertainties in China in addressing climate change. There is also evidence of clear regional heterogeneity in subnational indices. The CCPU dataset can provide a useful source of information for government actors, academics and investors in understanding the dynamics of climate policies in China. These indices can also be used to investigate the empirical relationship between climate policy uncertainty and other socioeconomic factors in China.

Abstract Background Major depressive disorder (MDD) poses a significant social and economic burden worldwide. Identifying exposures, risk factors, and biological mechanisms that are causally connected to MDD can help build a scientific basis for disease prevention and development of novel therapeutic approaches. Methods In this systematic review, we assessed the evidence for causal relationships between putative causal risk factors and MDD from Mendelian randomization (MR) studies, following PRISMA. We assessed methodological quality based on key elements of the MR design: use of a full instrumental variable analysis and validation of the three key MR assumptions. Results We included methodological details and results from 52 articles. A causal link between lifestyle, metabolic, inflammatory biomarkers, particular pathological states and MDD is supported by MR investigations, although results for each category varied substantially. Conclusions While this review shows how MR can offer useful information for examining prospective treatment targets and better understanding the pathophysiology of MDD, some methodological flaws in the existing literature limit reliability of results and probably underlie their heterogeneity. We highlight perspectives and recommendations for future works on MR in psychiatry.

Abstract Video summarisation can relieve the pressure on video storage, transmission, archiving, and retrieval caused by the explosive growth of online videos in recent years. Most existing supervised video summarisation methods use convolutional neural network (CNN) or recurrent neural network (RNN) to model the temporal dependencies between video frames or video shots. CNN mainly focuses on local information, and RNN loses long‐term information when the input sequence is long, both of which have limited ability to obtain long‐range memory in the video. Therefore, a recurrent unit augmented memory network (RUAMN) for video summarisation is proposed, which effectively utilises the long‐term memory extraction ability of the end‐to‐end memory network (MemN2N) and solves the problem that MemN2N is insensitive to temporal sequence information. At the same time, the proposed RUAMN enhances the process of memory update between multiple computational steps (hops), and finally generates a meaningful video summarisation result. Specifically, the proposed RUAMN is mainly composed of the input module, the global‐and‐local sampling, the memory module and the output module. The input module uses a bidirectional GRU to obtain the forward and backward information of each video frame. Then the global‐and‐local sampling performs global sampling and local sampling on the output sequence of the input module respectively to obtain several shorter sequences, so that the memory modules can capture the fine‐grained relationship features between video frames more effectively. The memory module extracts the long‐term memory information in the feature sequence, and finally the frame‐level importance scores are predicted by the output module. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets, that is, TVSum and SumMe, demonstrate the superiority of our method over several state‐of‐the‐art supervised video summarisation methods.

Abstract Introduction Post-operative nausea and/or vomiting (PONV) is a common post-operative adverse reaction and has been associated with post-operative sufentanil injection. The assessment of the relationship between intraoperative opioid consumption and PONV has been understudied. This study examined the relationship between intraoperative sufentanil administration and PONV. Methods This was a single-center retrospective observational study. Patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery under general anesthesia with the preoperative thoracic paravertebral block between January 2017 and June 2020 at the Peking University People’s Hospital were recruited for this study. Patients were grouped into two groups according to whether or not PONV occurred on postoperative day 1 (POD1). The factors associated with PONV were analyzed using logistic regression. Results A total of 2733 patients, 1510 males and 1223 females, were included in this study. Among them, 143 patients developed PONV, a 5.2% (143/2733) PONV incidence. Logistic regression analysis showed that female, nonsmoking, sufentanil patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA), POD1 opioids consumption, and a time-weighted average of intraoperative sufentanil (twSuf) were associated with PONV. All patients were further divided into four subgroups based on intraoperative twSuf. Logistic regression analysis revealed that twSuf higher than 0.21 μg kg–1 h–1 was an independent risk factor for PONV. Conclusions Intraoperative sufentanil injection with a twSuf higher than 0.21 μg kg−1 h−1 increased the risk of PONV in patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery under general anesthesia after a preoperative thoracic paravertebral block.

Healthy coral reefs provide diverse habitats for marine life, playing a crucial role in marine ecosystems. Coral health is under threat due to global climate change, ocean pollution, and other environmental stressors, leading to coral bleaching. Coral bleaching disrupts the symbiotic relationship between corals and algae, ultimately impacting the entire marine ecosystem. Processing complex underwater images manually is time-consuming and burdensome for marine experts. To rapidly locate and monitor coral health, deep neural networks are employed for identifying coral categories, which can facilitate the automated processing of extensive underwater imaging data. However, these classification networks may overlook critical classification criteria like color and texture. This paper proposes a multi-local perception network (ML-Net) for image classification of healthy and bleached corals. ML-Net focuses on local features of coral targets, leveraging valuable information for image classification. Specifically, the proposed multi-branch local adaptive block extracts image details through parallel convolution kernels. Then, the proposed multi-scale local fusion block integrates features of different scales vertically, enhancing the detailed information within the deep network. Residual structures in the shallow network transmit local information with more texture and color to the deep network. Both horizontal and vertical multi-scale fusion blocks in deep networks are used to capture and retain local details. We evaluated ML-Net using six evaluation metrics on the Bleached and Unbleached Corals Classification dataset. In particular, ML-Net achieves an ACC result of 86.35, which is 4.36 higher than ResNet and 8.5 higher than ConvNext. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modules for coral classification in underwater environments.

Based on a review of related concepts and theories this study investigates the different impacts of research and development (R&D) innovation and political background on corporate growth in a particular context. Unlike other studies, we integrate these two factors. We empirically analyze 6079 sets of data from 1292 A-share private manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2012 to 2019. The results show that these factors directly impact corporate growth and have heterogeneous effects at different enterprise growth levels. We find the effect of R&D innovation on corporate growth is more pronounced for young firms. These findings highlight the need for firms to adjust their investments in R&D innovation and political backgrounds at different stages of development to adapt to different markets and political environments.

BackgroundNeuropathic foot ulcers are the leading cause of nontraumatic foot amputations, particularly among patients with diabetes. Traditional methods of monitoring and managing these patients are periodic in-person clinic visits, which are passive and may be insufficient for preventing neuropathic foot ulcers and amputations. Continuous remote temperature monitoring has the potential to capture the critical period before the foot ulcers develop and to improve outcomes by providing real-time data and early interventions. For the first time, the effectiveness of such a strategy to prevent neuropathic foot ulcers and related complications among high-risk patients in a real-world commercial setting is reported. ObjectiveThis study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a real-world continuous remote temperature monitoring program in preventing neuropathic foot ulcers and amputations in patients with diabetes. MethodsIn this retrospective analysis of a real-world continuous remote temperature monitoring program, 115 high-risk patients identified by clinical providers from 15 geographically diverse private podiatry offices were analyzed. Patients received continuous remote monitoring socks as part of the program. The enrollment was based on medical necessity as decided by their managing physician. We evaluated data from up to 2 years before enrollment and up to 3 years during the program. The primary outcome was the rate of wound development. Secondary outcomes included amputation rate, the severity of the foot ulcers, and the number of visits to an outpatient podiatry clinic after enrolling in the program. γ-Al2O3 is an enormously important industrial material, especially used as catalysts, catalyst supports, and adsorbents due to its attractive structural, surface, and dielectric properties. Particularly, catalytic reduction of pollutants such as nitric oxide, as well as oxidation of hydrocarbons, is accomplished with precious metals such as platinum or palladium dispersed on the γ-Al2O3 surface. γ-Al2O3 loaded with precious metals has an excellent catalytic degradation ability of organic matter and is widely used to treat exhaust gas from stationary and mobile sources. High-temperature sintering is a major cause of catalyst deactivation. For example, at higher treatment temperatures (>800 ℃), γ-Al2O3 transforms into δ-Al2O3 and θ-Al2O3, decreasing in surface area and a change in dielectric properties. Additionally, in the reaction environment, supported metal nanoparticles grow in size, leading to the loss of catalyst activity. How to improve the anti-sintering performance of catalysts is a particular concern of this field. This review analyzes the reason and mechanism of the high-temperature sintering of γ-Al2O3 loaded with precious metal. A high temperature leads to Ostwald ripening and particle migration, coalescence of precious metals, and phase transformation of γ-Al2O3, reducing the specific surface area and activity of the catalyst. On this basis, the approaches for improving the high-temperature thermal stability of catalysts were reviewed and sorted out from three aspects, namely, precious metals, supports, and the interaction between them. First, the focus is on precious metal modification, carrier modification, and changing the interaction between them to improve thermal stability. Additionally, other methods, such as the confinement method and crystal plane control, are thoroughly examined and explained. These strategies provide new insights into catalyst design. Finally, the developmental trends of γ-Al2O3-based oxidation catalysts are broadly forecasted.

The interplay between non-Hermitian effects and topological insulators has become a frontier of research in non-Hermitian physics. However, the existence of a non-Hermitian skin effect for topological-protected edge states remains controversial. In this paper, we discover a new type of the non-Hermitian skin effect called the non-Hermitian chiral skin effect. Non-Hermitian chiral skin effect is induced by inhomogeneous edge dissipation under closed boundary conditions. In particular, the chiral modes of the non-Hermitian chiral skin effect localize around “topological defects” characterized by global dissipation rather than being confined to the system boundaries. We show its detailed physical properties by taking the non-Hermitian Haldane model as an example. As a result, the intrinsic mechanism of the hybrid skin-topological effect in Chern insulators is fully understood via the non-Hermitian chiral skin effect. Therefore this work will be helpful for the research on both non-Hermitian physics and topological quantum states.

Abstract Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignant tumor in women worldwide. Metastasis is the main cause of BC-related death. The specific mechanism underlying BC metastasis remains obscure. Recently, PRSS22 was discovered to be involved in tumor development, however, its detailed biological function and regulatory mechanism in BC are unclear. Here, we characterized that PRSS22 expression is upregulated in BC tissues compared with non-tumorous breast tissues. Dual luciferase assays, bioinformatics analyses and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays indicated that transcription factor E2F1 directly binds to the PRSS22 promoter region and activates its transcription. Functionally, upregulation of PRSS22 promoted invasion and metastasis of BC cells in vitro and in vivo, whereas knockdown of PRSS22 inhibited its function. Mechanistically, the combination of PRSS22 and ANXA1 protein in BC cells was first screened by protein mass spectrometry analysis, and then confirmed by co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and western blot assays. Co-overexpression of PRSS22 and ANXA1 could promote BC cell migration and invasion. We further demonstrated that PRSS22 promotes the cleavage of ANXA1 and in turn generates an N-terminal peptide, which initiates the FPR2/ERK signaling axis to increase BC aggressiveness.

In this study, the total synthesis of osajin, scandenone and their analogues have been accomplished. The key synthetic steps include aldol/intramolecular iodoetherification/elimination sequence reactions and a Suzuki coupling reaction to assemble the tricyclic core, chemoselective propargylation and Claisen rearrangement reactions to obtain natural compounds. In addition, we also designed and synthesized twenty-five natural product analogues. All synthetic compounds were screened for anti-inflammatory activity against tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. Collectively, Compound 39e and 39d were considered as promising lead compounds for further development.

Stable magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) are inevitably required to develop reliable MRF-based applications. Suspension stability of MRFs can be studied using an automated vertical axis inductance monitoring system (AVAIMS), where an inductance sensor is translated vertically along a column of MRF to measure particle concentration as a function of column height and time. The AVAIMS allows for tracking the particle concentration discontinuities due to the sedimentation of MRFs including the mud-line, the gel-line, and the cake-line. The sedimentation progress of MRFs can be evaluated by analyzing these boundaries. In this study, the AVAIMS design was improved to better identify the sedimentation zone boundaries by using an optimized inductance sensor that measures the concentration gradient as a function of time. The inductance sensor design, material selection, and geometry were optimized to improve the sensor sensitivity. The calibration curve of the sensor was obtained by measuring samples with different particle volume fractions. The sensor design was validated by examining an MRF sample with a particle concentration of 20% volume fraction for seven consecutive days. These tests show the effectiveness of the AVAIMS optimized to better localize the sedimentation zone boundaries using the concentration gradient profile method.

The rapid growth of attention to tin sulfide (SnS) is due to its efficient application in the field of thermoelectricity, and its doping product SnS0.91Se0.09 can obtain a high average thermoelectric figure of merit (ZTave≈ 1.25). Although many efforts have been made to reveal the mechanisms associated with electron transport and heat conduction, the role of lattice vibration remains poorly understood. Here, we studied the coherent vibration dynamics in SnS0.91Se0.09 bulk single crystal by using the femtosecond two-color pump-probe optical reflectivity technique. The oscillation signal in the time domain of SnS0.91Se0.09 is considered to be an electron–phonon interaction. The coherent dynamics of longitudinal acoustic phonons in this coupling behavior is closely related to probe polarization and excitation power. The stability of oscillation frequency reveals the microscopic mechanism of phonon conduction, and further understands the lattice nonharmonic caused by electron–phonon interaction in light-induced.

This study compared the physical characteristics, nutritional components, mineral elements, and volatile matter of the muscle of the Yellow River carp (Cyprinus carpio haematopterus) grown under the traditional pond system (TPS), in-pond raceway system (IPRS), and wild (WYRC) to reveal the differences in its muscle quality under aquaculture and natural growth conditions. The results demonstrated a significantly lower water-loss rate in the Yellow River carp muscle of both the WYRC and IPRS groups than that in the TPS group (P IPRS > TPS, and significant differences (P IPRS > TPS, and there was a significant difference between the groups (P IPRS > TPS, and the groups exhibited significant differences (P 0.05). These results suggest that different growth conditions significantly influence the physical characteristics, nutritional components, mineral elements, and volatile substances of the Yellow River carp muscle.

Transition metal sulfides are favored as anode materials for the next generation of lithium-ion batteries because of their high theoretical capacities and abundant natural resources. However, serious volume changes during charging and discharging pose great challenges to their stability. In this work, petal-like MoS2/Co9S8/C nanohybrids were synthesized via the immobilization of molybdyl acetoacetonate MoO2(acac)2 in ZIF-67 and subsequent combined vulcanization and thermolysis process. Benefiting from the homogeneous bimetallic sulfide and highly conductive carbon layer, the as-obtained MoS2/Co9S8/C nanohybrids exhibited a high initial discharge capacity of 988.3 mAh g−1 at 200 mA g−1 and a capacity retention > 99.9% after 50 cycles. Even at a high current density of 1000 mA g−1, the reversible capacity of MoS2/Co9S8/C is still as high as 754.6 mAh g−1, revealing extraordinary rate ability. This work can provide a general approach to design and synthesize other advanced bimetallic chalcogenides for boosting lithium-ion batteries storage performance.
