Introduction: Granulomatous lesions in various sites have different modes of presentation, different etiologic factors with identical histological patterns. The aim was to study the occurrence of granulomatous lesions at uncommon sites. Materials and methods: A retrospective study of histopathological specimens received over a period of one year from June 2017 to May 2018 was done and cases of granulomatous lesions of various sites reported on histopathological examination were reviewed along with Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) and Fite-Faraco (FF) staining. Results: Out of total 3623 histopathology specimens, 61 (1.7%) were granulomatous lesions of which 28 (45.9%) were AFB (Acid-fast bacilli) positive. 20 cases (32.7%) were granulomatous lymphadenitis out of which 12 (19.6%) were positive for AFB. 4 (6.5%) out of 13 (21.3%) granulomatous skin lesions showed AFB positivity. 6 (9.8%) cases of granulomatous mastitis (1 was AFB +ve), 4(6.5%) cases of granulomatous synovitis (2 were AFB +ve), 3 (4.9%) cases of granulomatous endometritis (2 were AFB+ve) were seen. 2 (3.3%) cases each of granulomatous epididymitis and appendicitis were noted. 1(1.6%) case of HIV positive hysterectomy specimen showed positivity for AFB. 1 (1.6%) case each of granulomatous lesions was found in the salivary gland, thyroid, testis, parietal pleura, nasal septum, suture granuloma of the fallopian tube, lipoma with foreign body granuloma, sinus tract, intestine, and omentum. Conclusion: In the present study tuberculosis was the most common cause of granulomatous lesions of various sites. Histopathology plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of a variety of granulomatous lesions. Special stains play a vital role in the diagnosis of infectious granulomatous lesions.

Many of the people in India living in rural areas will not get proper treatment for cardiovascular disease. They have to travel to the nearby hospitals in the city to get proper treatment. By the advancements in Engineering Technology healthcare can be delivered properly throughout India with the help of Telemedicine. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a voltage verses time graph of heart's electrical activity and any variation in this waveform is called Arrhythmia. Application based on telemedicine for online monitoring of arrhythmia is implemented in this work. It consists of a real time monitoring of ECG for rural people so that there is no need for them to go to the specialty hospital in urban areas. The advantage is that the doctors in urban area can monitor the cardiac patients and give proper advice to physicians in the Primary Health Centers (PHC) in rural area. A Real -Time Arrhythmia detection Algorithm has been implemented at specialty hospital for diagnostic purpose.

Aim: To evaluate the correlation of iron deficiency anemia with thrombocytosis in correlation with serum erythropoietin levels. Introduction: Thrombocytosis is a common hematologic finding that can present as an incidental finding and can lead to a great diagnostic challenge. Thrombocytosis can be caused due to autonomous or as a reactive overproduction secondary to infections, iron deficiency anemia, malignancies. Erythropoietin (EPO) is the primary regulator of erythrocyte production and also affects thrombopoiesis and platelet function. The mechanism leading to thrombocytosis in cases of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) remains unclear. Hence, this study was undertaken to evaluate correlation between IDA with thrombocytosis and serum EPO levels. Materials & Methods: A total of 50 patients of all the age groups attending out-patient and inpatient departments of Basaveshwara Medical College Hospital and Research center, Chitradurga suspected of having microcytic hypochromic anemia on initial hematological investigations were included for study over a period from January 2016 to august 2016. Relevant investigations like peripheral smear study, serum iron studies and serum erythropoietin levels were subsequently performed. Results: Majority 52% (n=26) had anemia between 7-9.9 gm/dl of which 57.69% (n=15) cases had platelet count between 5-7 lakhs/cu.mm, 34.61% (n=9) cases had moderate thrombocytosis and 7.69% (n=2) cases had severe thrombocytosis. Out of 50 cases in the present study 76% (n=38) cases had significant increase in the levels of serum erythropoietin while 24% (n=12) cases had normal serum erythropoietin. Conclusion: From the present study, it may be concluded that erythropoietin would play a significant role in causing thrombocytosis in patients with iron deficiency anemia.
