In the midst of the so-called “biological turn” in the Aristotelian studies, we will follow the hypothesis raised by some commentators that Aristotle’s Poetics shares the structural biological model of his thought, which implies that poetry also has a “natural history”. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to think about comedy according to this paradigm. It will be divided into two main parts: firstly, we will present evidence that corroborates the hypothesis that the Poetics was written with Aristotle’s biology as its structural model and, because of this, should be read against this background. Secondly, we will apply this model of thought to comedy, in order to conjecture what would be the perfect comic art from an Aristotelian perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
