Abstract

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are usually complex and safety-critical; hence, it is difficult and important to guarantee that the system's requirements, i.e., specifications, are fulfilled. Simulation-based falsification of CPSs is a practical testing method that can be used to raise confidence in the correctness of the system by only requiring that the system under test can be simulated. As each simulation is typically computationally intensive, an important step is to reduce the number of simulations needed to falsify a specification. We study Bayesian optimization (BO), a sample-efficient method that learns a surrogate model that describes the relationship between the parametrization of possible input signals and the evaluation of the specification. In this paper, we improve the falsification using BO by; first adopting two prominent BO methods, one fits local surrogate models, and the other exploits the user's prior knowledge. Secondly, the formulation of acquisition functions for falsification is addressed in this paper. Benchmark evaluation shows significant improvements in using local surrogate models of BO for falsifying benchmark examples that were previously hard to falsify. Using prior knowledge in the falsification process is shown to be particularly important when the simulation budget is limited. For some of the benchmark problems, the choice of acquisition function clearly affects the number of simulations needed for successful falsification.

Abstract

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are systems with both physical and software components, for example cars and industrial robots. Since these systems exhibit both discrete and continuous dynamics, they are complex and it is thus difficult to verify that they behave as expected. Falsification of temporal logic properties is an approach to find counterexamples to CPSs by means of simulation. In this paper, we propose two additions to enhance the capability of falsification and make it more viable in a large-scale industrial setting. The first addition is a framework for transforming specifications from a signal-based model into Signal Temporal Logic. The second addition is the use of Valued Booleans and an additive robust semantics in the falsification process. We evaluate the performance of the additive robust semantics on a set of benchmark models, and we can see that which semantics are preferable depend both on the model and on the specification.

Abstract

Objective: The main objective of this study was to determine various characteristics and outcomes of self-harm and suicide in men and women with data obtained from the National Trauma Registry of Iran (NTRI). Method: This retrospective multicenter study using data from the NTRI included all patients who went to the emergency department (ED) due to self-harm and suicide, considering the NTRI's specific inclusion criteria, from September 2016 to January 2023. We evaluated patients regarding demographics and clinical characteristics, various outcomes, and factors influencing in-hospital death. Statistical analyses were conducted using the STATA software version 15.0. The chisquare test was used to compare the distribution of variables between men and women. Also, the logistic regression models were applied to assess the predictors of in-hospital death. Results: Self-harm and suicide cases were gathered from eleven geographically diverse hospitals across the country, and our study included 511 men and 347 women out of 50,661 registered trauma cases. Among them, 443 men (86.7%) and 267 women (76.9%) were between 18 and 49 years old (P < 0.001). Single women constituted 130 (37.3%) of the female cases, while single men were 313 (61.6%) of the male cases (P < 0.001). The three most common methods among our patients were poisoning with 234 (45.8%) of men and 245 (70.6%) of women cases, stab/cut with 208 (40.7%) of men and 54 (15.6%) of women cases, and fall with 16 (3.1%) of men and 26 (7.5%) of women cases (P < 0.001). The risk of death in patients with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3 to 8 was 46.22 (95% CI = 18.66 to 114.45) times more than patients with a GCS score of 13 to 15. Conclusion: Data on self-harm and suicide traumatology were gathered from eleven hospitals in Iran. Our findings indicated differences in the distribution of age and marital status between genders. Abstract

In this study, which was carried out in the spring of 2022, a total of 20 points including 10 presence (nest) points and 10 absence points of Hoopoe Lark (Alaemon alaudipes) were investigated in an area of approximately 2000 hectares, in the vicinity of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr and Tangestan townships, Bushehr province, southern Iran. The characteristics of each nest as well as the environmental characteristics were investigated. The large and small internal nest diameters are 8.1±1.19 and 6.55±1.01 cm, respectively. The average large and small external diameter of the nests is 13.60±1.71 and 11.8±1.47 cm, respectively. The average depth of nests is 4.40±1.07 cm. The average distance from the bottom edge of the nest to the ground surface is 17.3±7.04 centimeters. The volume of the nests was 181±68.08 cubic centimeters. The average distance between nests is 1244.88±665.71 meters. Seven out of 10 nest directions are toward north, two is slightly towards the east and one slightly towards the west. Three environmental variables, including the distance to the asphalt road, the number of short shrubs and the percentage of bare land have significant relationship with the nest points. The nest points have a positive significant relationship with the number of short shrubs and the percentage of bare ground and had an inverse relationship with the distance to the asphalt road. Abstract

Background:Sample preparation is one of the most challenging phases in pharmaceutical analysis, especially in biological matrices, affecting the whole analytical methodology.Objective:In this study, a new Ca(II)/Cu(II)/alginate/CuO Nanoparticles Hydrogel Fiber (CCACHF) was synthesized through a simple, green procedure and applied for fiber micro solid-phase extraction (FMSPE) of diazepam (DIZ) and oxazepam (OXZ) as model drugs prior to high-performance liquid chromatography-UV detection (HPLC-UV).Methods:Composition and morphology of the prepared fiber were characterized and the effect of main parameters on the fiber fabrication and extraction efficiency have been studied and optimized.Results:In optimal conditions, calibration curves were linear, ranging between 0.1–500 μg L−1with regression coefficients of 0.9938 and 0.9968. Limit of Detection (LOD) (S/N=3) and Limit of Quantification (LOQ) (S/N=10) of the technique for DIZ and OXZ were 0.03 to 0.1 μg L−1. Within-day and between-day Relative Standard Deviations (RSDs) for DIZ and OXZ were 6.0–12.5% and 3.3–9.4%, respectively.Conclusion:The fabricated adsorbent has been substantially employed to the extraction of selected benzo-diazepines (BZDs) from human serum real specimens and the obtained recoveries were also satisfactory (82.1-109.7%).
