Abstract

Dados de ocorrência e riqueza de espécies são importantes para subsidiar ações de conservação em áreas estratégicas. Para aumentar o conhecimento sobre a herpetofauna do bioma Cerrado, apresentamos uma lista de espécies de anfíbios e répteis da Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural Serra do Tombador (RNST). O trabalho de campo foi realizado em novembro de 2016 e as coletas foram realizadas por meio de armadilhas de interceptação e queda, busca ativa, encontros ocasionais e registros de terceiros. Também consideramos as espécies registradas no Plano de Manejo da RNST. Registramos 34 anfíbios e 55 répteis, e expandimos a distribuição conhecida de algumas espécies. As curvas de espécies de anfíbios observadas e estimadas apresentaram tendência de estabilização, com a riqueza observada representando 89% do número de espécies esperadas. Por outro lado, as curvas das espécies de répteis observadas e estimadas não mostraram tendência de estabilização. Mesmo considerando o menor período amostral neste estudo, a riqueza de espécies de anfíbios e répteis foi semelhante ou maior à encontrada em áreas protegidas do Cerrado, próximas a RNST. A presença de espécies com endemismo restrito, recentemente descritas, e dados insuficientes destacam a importância da RNST para a conservação da herpetofauna do Cerrado. Data on species occurrence and richness are important to support conservation actions for strategic areas. To increase knowledge about the herpetofauna of the Cerrado biome, we present a list of amphibians and reptiles' species from the Private Reserve of Natural Heritage Serra do Tombador (RNST). The fieldwork was performed in November 2016 and the samplings were carried out through pitfall traps, active search, occasional encounters, and third-party records. We also consider the species recorded in the RNST Management Plan. We recorded 34 amphibians and 55 reptiles, and expanded the known distribution of some species. The observed and estimated amphibian species curves showed a tendency to stabilize, with the observed richness representing 89% of the number of species expected. On the other hand, observed and estimated reptile species curves did not show a stabilization trend. Even considering the smallest sample period in this study, the richness of amphibian and reptile species was similar or greater to those found in protected areas in the Cerrado, close to the RNST. The presence of species with restricted endemism, recently described, and data deficient highlights the importance of the RNST for the conservation of the Cerrado herpetofauna.

10. Acoustic plasticity in Boana goiana(Lutz, 1968) (Anura, Hylidae): how males respond to successive interactions with conspecific competitors

ABSTRACTDuring the breeding season, hundreds of anurans agglomerate at spawning sites, where a diversity of social contexts arise. In this scenario, anurans may alter their vocal repertoire according to the immediate social context, to overcome intraspecific competition. To evaluate the acoustic response of Boana goianato successive interactions with a conspecific competitor, the present study was based on comparing the repetition rates of advertisement and aggressive calls of B. goianafocal males exposure to repeated artificial advertisement calls in 10 playback sessions. We observed that B. goianamales altered their acoustic behaviour in response to the simulated arrival of a new competitor. Males emitted less advertisement calls and more aggressive calls with the arrival of the competitors. Temperature and body condition were not important predictors of continuity of males in the experiment or the call repetition rates in the pre-playback session. However, the body condition influenced the total delta advertisement calls (differences in the call rate emission between end and the beginning of the experiment), indicating that higher values of body conditions allow males to show smaller reductions in the emission of advertisement calls over time in the presence of a competitor.

Abstract

Fire is a frequent agent of disturbance in tropical savannas (e.g., Brazilian Cerrado), but relatively few studies have analyzed how the arthropod community responds to fire disturbance. Following the incursion of an accidental fire into a Cerrado fragment in Central Brazil, we investigated whether the arthropod community is structured by abiotic (climate or fire) or biotic (succession) factors. Our study commenced one week after fire and during the six months afterward. We found 22 arthropod orders, of which Diptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Blattaria and Coleoptera were the most representative. More than 40% of the arthropod abundance was recorded 40 days after the fire event. The overall arthropod abundance and richness fluctuated in the six months following the fire and does not seem to be related to climatic variables. Temporal beta diversity was explained by a reduction in richness differences along the intervals of time, but the community recovery needs to be treated with caution. The increase in replacement in the last intervals in relation to the fire event indicates that biotic interactions may occur with the arrival of late colonizers and suggest that arthropod communities need a long time to be restructured. These results indicate that the processes of restructuring of the arthropod communities after human-induced fire events are temporally complex, involving loss, gain and taxon replacement, but long-term studies are still needed to understand the dynamics of communities.&nbsp

Abstract

New data that seeks to fill knowledge gaps about distribution and natural history may improve our knowledge of the status of threatened species. Herein, new distributional record of the endangered species Allobates goianus is reported and information on daily activities of a population are provided using an automatic acoustic monitoring recorder. The article discusses the death-feigning behavior also known as thanatosis strategy observed in the Ischnocnema aff. henselii which is a nocturnal anurans. Topics include the use of selective pressures among amphibians as defensive behavior against predator interaction and the field surveys where in frogs remained motionless with belly up, arms upward and eyes closed with yellowish colour observed by researchers in Araucaria plateau in southern Brazil.
