Filaments are believed to play a key role in high-mass star formation. We present a systematic study of the filaments and their hosting clumps in the G35 molecular complex using JCMT SCUBA-2 850 $\micron$ continuum data. We identified five clouds in the complex and 91 filaments within them, some of which form 10 hub-filament systems (HFSs), each with at least 3 hub-composing filaments. We also compiled a catalogue of 350 dense clumps, 183 of which are associated with the filaments. We investigated the physical properties of the filaments and clumps, such as mass, density, and size, and their relation to star formation. We find that the global mass-length trend of the filaments is consistent with a turbulent origin, while the hub-composing filaments of high line masses ($m_{\rm l}\,>$\,230\,$\mathrm{M_{\odot}~pc^{-1}}$) in HFSs deviate from this relation, possibly due to feedback from massive star formation. We also find that the most massive and densest clumps (R\,$>$\,0.2\,pc, M\,$>35\,\mathrm{M_{\odot}}$, $\mathrm{\Sigma}>\,0.05\,\mathrm{g~cm^{-2}}$) are located in the filaments and in the hubs of HFS with the latter bearing a higher probability of occurrence of high-mass star-forming signatures, highlighting the preferential sites of HFSs for high-mass star formation. We do not find significant variation in the clump mass surface density across different evolutionary environments of the clouds, which may reflect the balance between mass accretion and stellar feedback., Comment: 34 pages, 17 figures. To determine the nature of the PeVatron's emission (hadronic or leptonic), it is essential to characterize the physical parameters of the environment from where it originates. We unambiguously confirm the association of molecular gas with the PeVatron candidate LHAASO J2108+5157 using unprecedented high angular-resolution (17$^{\prime \prime}$) $^{12,13}$CO($J$=1$\rightarrow$0) observations carried out with the Nobeyama 45m radio telescope. We characterize a molecular cloud in the vicinity of the PeVatron candidate LHAASO J2108+5157 by determining its physical parameters from our $^{12,13}$CO($J$=1$\rightarrow$0) line observations. We use an updated estimation of the distance to the cloud, which allows us to obtain a more reliable result. The molecular emission is compared with excess gamma-ray images obtained with Fermi--LAT at energies above 2 GeV to search for spatial correlations and test a possible hadronic ($\pi^0$ decay) origin for the gamma-ray emission. We find that the morphology of the spatial distribution of the CO emission is strikingly similar to that of the Fermi--LAT excess gamma-ray. By combining our observations with archival 21cm HI line data, the nucleons (HI + H$_2$) number density of the target molecular cloud is found to be 133.0 $\pm$ 45.0 cm$^{-3}$, for the measured angular size of 0.55 $\pm$ 0.02$^\circ$ at a distance of 1.6 $\pm$ 0.1 kpc. The resulting total mass of the cloud is M(HI +H$_2$) = 7.5$\pm$2.9$\times$10$^3$ M$_{\odot}$. Under a hadronic scenario, we obtain a total energy of protons of W$_p$ = 4.3$\pm$1.5 $\times$ 10$^{46}$ erg with a cutoff of 700$\pm$300 TeV, which reproduces the sub-PeV gamma-ray emission. We identified a molecular cloud in the vicinity of LHAASO J2107+5157 as the main target where cosmic rays from an unknown PeVatron produce the observed gamma-ray emission via $\pi^0$ decay., Comment: To be published in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters with reference number: AA/2023/46681. Water distribution systems (WDS) sustained severe damage in the past earthquakes. While previous studies investigated the seismic performance of buried water pipelines, the effects of corrosion on the pipeline seismic performance were ignored. The presence of corrosion on metallic pipeline walls aggravates seismic damage level because corrosion significantly reduces the pipeline strength. Most of the existing buried pipelines in the United States are aged and non-ductile metallic pipelines, which are vulnerable to seismic loading. To ensure continuous and smooth water supply to communities during and after earthquakes, it is necessary to evaluate the system-level seismic performance of WDS considering the aging effect in corroded pipelines. The current study develops a new framework of estimating the seismic resilience of WDS considering the time-variant effect of corrosion. The study formulates an approach that : (1) determines the seismic failure probability of pipeline using an extended American Lifelines Alliance (ALA) model that account for the effects of time-dependent corrosion; and (2) estimates system-level seismic performance based on pipeline reliability and edge betweenness centrality. The proposed approach is illustrated with a scenario earthquake hazard for mid-size WDS. The outcomes of the study reveal that the presence of corrosion on pipelines significantly reduces the system-level seismic performance of WDS. Most cast iron pipes have 100 years lifetime, system-level seismic resilience may decrease by 81% at high seismic wave intensity.
