A systematic study of band structures of some odd mass Samarium isotopes with neutron numbers 91 ≤ N ≤ 95 is carried out by employing projected shell model. The theoretical results have been obtained for band head energies, energy spectra, transition energies and moment of inertia. The calculations on comparison with the experimental data show a reasonably good agreement. The band spectra and transition energies for higher spin states are also predicted in these isotopes. The calculations successfully provide good understanding of the change in structure of the yrast bands and excited bands in terms of single and multi-quasiparticle configurations. The future experimental work will test the predictions made in this paper.

The projected shell model framework has been employed to carry out a systematic study on the deformation systematics of E ( 2 1 + ) and E ( 4 1 + ) / E ( 2 1 + ) values, BCS subshell occupation numbers, yrast spectra, backbending phenomena and electromagnetic quantities in 114–128Cd isotopes. Present calculations reproduce the observed systematics of the E ( 2 1 + ) , R 42 and B ( E 2 ; 2 + → 0 + ) values for 114–128Cd isotopic mass chain and give the evidence that deformation increases as one moves from 114Cd to 118Cd, thereafter it decreases up to 126Cd. This in turn confirms 118Cd to be the most deformed nucleus in this set of isotopic mass chain. The emergence of backbending, decrease in B ( E 2 ) values and change in g-factors in all these isotopes are intimately related to the crossing of g-band by 2-qp bands.

Projected shell model has been employed to study systematically the well deformed neutron rich odd odd isotopes with neutron number from 89 to 93. We perform calculations for rotational bands and analyze the band structure of low lying states. Our calculations predict two 2-quasiparticle (qp) intruder bands based on I = 6 − and I = 7 − in 152Eu and one 2-qp band based on I = 7 − in 154Eu. A systematic study of yrast spectra and rotational bands in 152−156Eu isotopes is presented and compared with the experimental data. The projected shell model is found to be successful in the investigation of the yrast bands and other 2-qp rotational bands in these neutron rich doubly odd isotopes.

The positive and negative parity rotational band structure of the neutron rich odd mass Eu isotopes with neutron numbers ranging from 90 to 96 are investigated up to the high angular momentum. In the theoretical analysis of energy spectra, transition energies and electromagnetic transition probabilities we employ the projected shell model. The calculations successfully describe the formation of the ground and excited band structures from the single particle and multi quasiparticle configurations. Calculated excitation energy spectra, transition energies, exact quantum mechanically calculated B(E2) and B(M1) transition probabilities are compared with experimental data wherever available and a reasonably good agreement is obtained with the observed data. The change in deformation in the ground state band with the increase in angular momentum and the increase in neutron number has also been established.

A microscopic high spin study of neutron deficient and normally deformed 133,135,137Sm has been carried out in projected shell model framework. The theoretical results have been obtained for the spins, parities and energy values of yrast and excited bands. Besides this, the band spectra, band head energies, moment of inertia and electromagnetic transition strengths are also predicted in these isotopes. The calculations successfully give a deeper understanding of the mechanism of the formation of yrast and excited bands from the single and multi-quasi particle configurations. The results on moment of inertia predict an alignment of a pair of protons in the proton (1h 11/2)2 orbitals in the yrast ground state bands of 133-137Sm due to the crossing of one quasiparticle bands by multi-quasiparticle bands at higher spins. The discussion in the present work is based on the deformed single particle scheme. Any future experimental confirmation or refutation of our predictions will be a valuable information which can help to understand the deformed single particle structure in these odd mass neutron deficient 133-137Sm.

Some positive and negative parity energy bands of odd-A isotopes of Europium [Formula: see text] have been studied within the Projected Shell Model (PSM) framework. Calculated excitation energy spectra, transition energies, E2 and M1 transition probabilities, quadrupole and magnetic moments are compared with experimental data wherever available. Reasonably good agreement is obtained with the observed data.
