Rheumatic diseases and disorders (RDDs) are a group of chronic autoimmune diseases that are collectively called ''multicausal diseases''. They have resulted from predisposing genetic profiles and exposure to a range of environmental, occupational and lifestyle risk factors. Other causative factors include bacterial and viral attacks, sexual habits, trauma, etc. In addition, numerous studies reported that redox imbalance is one of the most serious consequences of RDDs. For example, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as a classic example of chronic RDDs is linked to oxidative stress. This paper summarizes the contributions of redox imbalance to RDDs. The findings suggest that establishing direct or indirect therapeutic strategies for RDDs requires a more in-depth understanding of the redox dysregulation in these diseases. For example, the recent awareness of the roles of peroxiredoxins (Prdxs, e.g. Prdx2, Prdx3) in RDDs provided one potential route of therapeutic intervention of these pathologies. Changes in stressful lifestyles and dietary habits may also provide additional benefits in the management of RDDs. Future studies should be directed to explore molecular interactions in redox regulations associated with RDDS and potential therapeutic interventions.

Abstract Propolis, a resinous substance produced by honeybees from various plant sources, has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine for several purposes all over the world. The precise composition of propolis varies according to plant source, seasons harvesting, geography, type of bee flora, climate changes, and honeybee species at the site of collection. This apiary product has broad clinical applications such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, analgesic, antidepressant, and anxiolytic as well asimmunomodulatory effects. It is also well known from traditional uses in treating purulent disorders, improving the wound healing, and alleviating many of the related discomforts. Even if its use was already widespread since ancient times, after the First and Second World War, it has grown even more as well as the studies to identify its chemical and pharmacological features, allowing to discriminate the qualities of propolis in terms of the chemical profile and relative biological activity based on the geographic place of origin. Recently, several in vitro and in vivo studies have been carried out and new insights into the pharmaceutical prospects of this bee product in the management of different disorders, have been highlighted. Specifically, the available literature confirms the efficacy of propolis and its bioactive compounds in the reduction of cancer progression, inhibition of bacterial and viral infections as well as mitigation of parasitic-related symptoms, paving the way to the use of propolis as an alternative approach to improve the human health. However, a more conscious use of propolis in terms of standardized extracts as well as new clinical studies are needed to substantiate these health claims.

The aims of this study to assess the efficiency of AGL against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced hepatic toxicity that was generated by mitochondrial oxidative stress and glutathione depletion. Free radical scavenging potentiality was analyzed by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide, and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. APAP-induced liver toxicity was formed at a dose level of 640 mg/kg mg/kg BW each, p.o. for 14 days for all experimental rats except the vehicle control group. AGL (5 and 10 mg/kg) were treated orally with negative control and negative control silymarin (50 mg/kg) group. To assess the protective effect, we looked at the levels of serum biochemical markers, liver histoarchitecture, and hepatic antioxidant enzyme activity. AGL showed in vitro anti-oxidant potentialities by scavenging radicals in the respective assays. As evidenced by serum biochemical indicators and relative liver weight, AGL co-administration substantially reduced toxicant-induced hepatic damage. APAP-intoxication increased the malondialdehyde (MDA) level and declined in cellular endogenous antioxidant enzymes such as reduced catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione, where, AGL treatment amended their level. In the same way, histopathological evaluation further verified that AGL protected the hepatocyte from APAP-induced damage. As AGL scavenges toxic free radicals, thereby protects mitochondria and other organelles from reactive oxygen and nitrogen species-mediated stress and its eventual consequence necrosis. Therefore, we propose the hepatoprotective activity of AGL through its antioxidant mechanism.

Scientific evidence suggests that quercetin (QUR) has anxiolytic-like effects in experimental animals. However, the mechanism of action responsible for its anxiolytic-like effects is yet to be discovered. The goal of this research is to assess QUR’s anxiolytic effects in mouse models to explicate the possible mechanism of action. After acute intraperitoneal (i.p.) treatment with QUR at a dose of 50 mg/kg (i.p.), behavioral models of open-field, hole board, swing box, and light–dark tests were performed. QUR was combined with a GABAergic agonist (diazepam) and/or antagonist (flumazenil) group. Furthermore, in silico analysis was also conducted to observe the interaction of QUR and GABA (α5), GABA (β1), and GABA (β2) receptors. In the experimental animal model, QUR had an anxiolytic-like effect. QUR, when combined with diazepam (2 mg/kg, i.p.), drastically potentiated an anxiolytic effect of diazepam. QUR is a more highly competitive ligand for the benzodiazepine recognition site that can displace flumazenil (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.). In all the test models, QUR acted similar to diazepam, with enhanced effects of the standard anxiolytic drug, which were reversed by pre-treatment with flumazenil. QUR showed the best interaction with the GABA (α5) receptor compared to the GABA (β1) and GABA (β2) receptors. In conclusion, QUR may exert an anxiolytic-like effect on mice, probably through the GABA-receptor-interacting pathway.

Quercetin (QUR) is a natural bioactive flavonoid that has been lately very studied for its beneficial properties in many pathologies. Its neuroprotective effects have been demonstrated in many in vitro studies, as well as in vivo animal experiments and human trials. QUR protects the organism against neurotoxic chemicals and also can prevent the evolution and development of neuronal injury and neurodegeneration. The present work aimed to summarize the literature about the neuroprotective effect of QUR using known database sources. Besides, this review focuses on the assessment of the potential utilization of QUR as a complementary or alternative medicine for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases. An up-to-date search was conducted in PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar for published work dealing with the neuroprotective effects of QUR against neurotoxic chemicals or in neuronal injury, and in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Findings suggest that QUR possess neuropharmacological protective effects in neurodegenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Amyloid β peptide, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington's disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In summary, this review emphasizes the neuroprotective effects of QUR and its advantages in being used in complementary medicine for the prevention and treatment o of different neurodegenerative diseases.

Ginkgolide A is a highly active platelet activating factor antagonist cage molecule which was isolated from the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba L. It is known for its inflammatory and immunological potentials. This review aims to sketch a current scenario on its therapeutic activities on the basis of scientific reports in the databases. A total 30 articles included in this review suggests that ginkgolide A has many important biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anxiolytic-like, anti-atherosclerosis and anti-atherombosis, neuro- and hepatoprotective effects. There is a lack of its toxicological (e.g. toxicity, cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and mutagenitcity) profile. In conclusion, ginkgolide A may be one of the potential therapeutic lead compounds, especially for the treatment of cardiovascular, hepatological, and neurological diseases and disorders. More studies are necessary on this hopeful therapeutic agent.

Dengue fever is a dangerous infectious endemic disease that affects over 100 nations worldwide, from Africa to the Western Pacific, and is caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted to humans by an insect bite of Aedes aegypti. Millions of citizens have died as a result of dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever across the globe. Envelope (E), serine protease (NS3), RNA-directed RNA polymerase (NS5), and non-structural protein 1 (NS1) are mostly required for cell proliferation and survival. Some of the diterpenoids and their derivatives produced by nature possess anti-dengue viral properties. The goal of the computational study was to scrutinize the effectiveness of diterpenoids and their derivatives against dengue viral proteins through in silico study. Methods: molecular docking was performed to analyze the binding affinity of compounds against four viral proteins: the envelope (E) protein, the NS1 protein, the NS3 protein, and the NS5 protein. Results: among the selected drug candidates, triptolide, stevioside, alepterolic acid, sphaeropsidin A, methyl dodovisate A, andrographolide, caesalacetal, and pyrimethamine have demonstrated moderate to good binding affinities (−8.0 to −9.4 kcal/mol) toward the selected proteins: E protein, NS3, NS5, and NS1 whereas pyrimethamine exerts −7.5, −6.3, −7.8, and −6.6 kcal/mol with viral proteins, respectively. Interestingly, the binding affinities of these lead compounds were better than those of an FDA-approved anti-viral medication (pyrimethamine), which is underused in dengue fever. Conclusion: we can conclude that diterpenoids can be considered as a possible anti-dengue medication option. However, in vivo investigation is recommended to back up the conclusions of this study.

Depressive disorder is a recurrent illness that affects large numbers of the general population worldwide. In recent years, the goal of depression treatment has moved from symptomatic response to that of full remission. However, treatment-resistant depression is a major challenge in the treatment of depression or depression-related disorders. Consensus opinion, therefore, suggests that effective combined aggressive initial treatment is the most appropriate strategy. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of quercetin (QUR) and/or ascorbic acid (AA) on Phenobarbital-induced sleeping mice. QUR (50 mg/kg) and/or AA (25 mg/kg) with or without intraperitoneally pre-treated with GABA receptor agonist (diazepam: 2 mg/kg, i.p.) or antagonist (Flumazenil: 2.5 mg/kg, i.p.) to underscore the effects, as well as the possible involvement of the GABA receptor in the modulatory action of QUR and AA in sleeping mice. Additionally, an in silico study was undertaken to predict the involvement of GABA receptors in the sleep mechanism. Findings suggest that the pretreatment of QUR and AA modulated the onset and duration of action of the standard drugs in experimental animals. The acute administration of QUR and/or AA significantly (p < 0.05) reversed the DZP-mediated onset of action and slightly reversed the duration of sleep time in comparison to the vehicle (control) group. A further combination of QUR or AA with the FLU resulted in an enhancement of the onset of action while reducing the duration of action, suggesting a FLU-like effect on the test animals. In in silico studies, AA and QUR showed good to moderate binding affinities with GABAA and GABAB receptors. Both QUR and AA produced a stimulatory-like effect on mice, possibly through the GABAA and GABAB receptor interaction pathways. Further studies are necessary to verify this activity and clarify the exact mechanism of action(s) involved.

4D printing technology represents a major advance in additive manufacturing, in which materials can dynamically change shape or properties over time in response to external stimuli. Recent years have seen phenomenal advances in the field of 4D printing technology, which has revolutionized production and design. This review provides a concise overview of the research progress in 4D printing technology, focusing on its principles, applications, and challenges. Researchers have looked into a variety of materials, such as composites and smart polymers that may change programmably in response to light, humidity, or temperature. Applications for 4D printing are found in a wide range of industries, from aerospace parts to biomedical equipment. The creation of self-assembling and adaptable structures has enormous potential for the development of materials that are useful and responsive. Significant developments in the creation of cutting-edge 4D printing methods, like multi-material printing and exact control over shape-changing processes, are highlighted in this review. Challenges, material constraints, and scalability problems are also addressed, with a focus on continuous efforts to overcome them. The revolutionary effect of 4D printing on manufacturing, design, and many other industries is becoming more and more evident as it develops, opening up previously unimaginable opportunities and creative solutions. Finally, challenges and future directions in the field are discussed, aiming to inspire further research and innovation in the dynamic field of 4D printing technology.

The advent of 4D bioprinting, a technique that integrates time dimensions into the conventional 3D method, substantially changed tissue engineering. By providing a time dimension to conventional 3D printing, the innovative process of 4D bioprinting is revolutionising tissue engineering. This development allows the creation of dynamic tissues, allowing structures to change and adapt over time to reflect the complexity of natural tissues. Specifically, shape memory polymers enable customised scaffold fabrication with improved mechanical strength and biomimicry for use in bone tissue engineering. An essential additional use for soft tissue regeneration is the development of injectable thermosensitive hydrogels that react to body temperature. Within asymmetrical defect regions, these hydrogels gel, offering a flexible cure for healing injured soft tissues. In addition to structural considerations, the potential applications of 4D bioprinting include organisms, vascularisation and dynamic disease models. Despite the advancements, issues like suitable biocompatibility and long-term stability still need to be resolved. However, by creating complex, adaptable and patient-specific designs in the realm of tissue engineering, 4D bioprinting has enormous potential to transform personalised medicine and regenerative therapies. This review provides a comprehensive investigation into the future of regenerative medicine by exploring the various uses and potentially revolutionary effects of 4D bioprinting in tissue engineering.

Noise pollution is a major challenge in urban contexts all around the world. The study was designed to assess road traffic noise pollution with possible health effects on those living in the study region. The IDW spatial interpolation approach and an ArcGIS-based evaluation were used to map the recorded noise levels in the research region. The noise descriptors including Noise Climate (NC), Traffic Noise Index (TNI), Equivalent Noise Level (Leq), and Noise Pollution Level (NPL) were computed. The required information has been collected through a questionnaire survey and previously published documents. The study reveals that the current noise level is higher than the recommended national threshold at every location. According to the study, the Nathullabad region had the highest level of noise pollution (86.5 dBA), while the Kaunia Abasik area had the lowest level (67.8 dBA). Study findings also show that in the area context, the highest levels of noise pollution are found in commercial areas (82 dBA), followed by industrial areas (80.4 dBA),mixed areas (81.3 dBA), and residential areas (72.7 dBA). The lowest level is found in sensitive areas (72.5 dBA). Statistical analyses, including one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD post-hoc and LSD post-hoc test results, showed that there was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) between the noise pollution levels (NPL) in the morning, noon, and evening shifts. The results showed that 32 % of respondents stated they felt disturbed while working, and 27% of respondents said it was somewhat sensitive for them. As the last step in minimizing noise pollution in the research area, 37 % of respondents reported enforcing the regulations, 31% suggested making hydraulic horns illegally, and 21 % suggested raising public awareness. This study may contribute to academic knowledge and assist decision-makers of government officials in formulating appropriate local strategies to deal with this grave environmental problem.

Hydrogels with improved structural integrity and adjustable characteristics are made from ionic liquids, which are renowned for their distinct physicochemical qualities. Utilizing 3D printing technology, which gives precise control over the morphology and spatial arrangement of the finished structures, further expands the potential of these hydrogels. This review discusses the various uses of hydrogels based on ionic liquids that are created on 3D printers, from scaffolds for tissue engineering to drug delivery systems. Ionic liquids and 3D printing together provide a flexible platform for adjusting the hydrogels' mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and responsiveness. The addition of functional components like nanoparticles and bioactive compounds increases the therapeutic potential of these materials. This review covers the latest advancements, obstacles, and potential applications for 3D-printed hydrogels based on ionic liquids. A thorough grasp of how this novel methodology advances materials science and bioengineering and opens the door for next-generation biomedical applications may be gained by delving into the design concepts and fabrication methods.

The process of additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, is a method of constructing a component by progressively adding material in layers using digital 3D design information. As part of 'Industry 4.0,' many industrial technologies are rapidly increasing to thrive in the twenty-first century. This study goes over seven different types of additive manufacturing in great detail. These technologies make it possible to make complex, high-value parts quickly and in small quantities without using as much energy or material or making as many tools as subtractive manufacturing does. Besides, AM also possesses some particular challenges, like post-processing, material unavailability, software issues, etc. The application of AM is expanding rapidly from micro to macro-scale sectors. 3D printing technology will change industrial operations in the following years. Eventually, the elected technology will be closely related to the proposed function.

Nanomaterials are substances that have at least one dimension that falls within the three-dimensional nanoscale range or fundamental structural components made of substances that fall inside this range. Micro-nano 3D printing technology can realize the processing of 3D micro-nano structures with nanometer precision and has broad application prospects in many fields. Metals and polymers can be easily connected through bonding reactions to obtain metal-metal or covalent bonds in 3D printing. These potent chemical bonds make 3D-printed structures stable, and 3D printing of metals and plastics is developing rapidly. The review focuses on the latest developments in unique composite nanomaterials for different field applications, comprising nanomaterials and 3D printing technology. A summary of the mechanisms, functional characteristics, benefits, drawbacks, and applications of various nanomaterials used in scientific 3D printing includes metal-based nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, upconversion nanoparticles, and lipid-based nanoparticles. Finally, this study presents an overview and highlights the issues that need to be resolved for nanomaterials to continue to be developed for the advantages of 3D printing.

Background/Aims Limited data exist comparing the safety and efficacy of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in hepatitis C virus (HCV) monoinfected and HCV/human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfected patients in the real-world clinic practice setting. Methods : All HCV monoinfected and HCV/HIV coinfected patients treated with DAAs between January 2014 and October 2017 in community clinic settings were retrospectively analyzed. Pretreatment baseline patient characteristics, treatment efficacy, factors affecting sustained virologic response at 12 weeks (SVR12) after treatment, and adverse reactions were compared between the groups. Results : A total of 327 patients were included in the study, of which 253 were HCV monoinfected, and 74 were HCV/HIV coinfected. There was a statistically significant difference observed in SVR12 when comparing HCV monoinfection and HCV/HIV coinfection (94% and 84%, respectively, p=0.005). However, there were no significant factors identified as a predictor of a reduced response. The most common adverse effect was fatigue (27%). No significant drug interaction was observed between DAA and antiretroviral therapy. None of the patients discontinued the treatment due to adverse events. Conclusion : s In a real-world setting, DAA regimens have lower SVR12 in HCV/HIV coinfection than in HCV monoinfection. Further studies involving a higher number of HCV/HIV coinfected patients are needed to identify real predictors of a reduced response.
