Aluminium-doped magnesium ferrite (MAFO) has garnered significant interest due to its recently observed low microwave loss properties, making it invaluable for applications at high-frequency operations, including fields like spintronics and magnonics. This study delves into the optical and dielectric properties of MgAl0.5Fe1.5O4 synthesized via a conventional solid-state method followed by sintering at 1350 °C for 6 hrs. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of pure, single-phase MAFO spinel ferrite with the lattice constant of 8.313 Å. The Williamson–Hall (W-H) method was employed to determine the crystallite size and strain from X-ray diffraction data, resulting in values of 115.4 nm and 9.37 × 10–4, respectively. UV–visible spectroscopy was used to determine the optical properties, revealing a band gap of 2.38 eV and an average refractive index of 2.09 for the investigated spinel ferrite. The dielectric properties including capacitance, dielectric constant (ε), dielectric loss, ac conductivity, complex impedance, and modulus of MAFO sample were studied as a function of frequency for various temperatures. This comprehensive analysis sheds light on the previously undiscovered traits in the material's transport phenomena and optical attributes, opening an exciting and active field of research into its other physical properties.

This study presents a planar hybrid system consisting of an electric-field-coupled resonator (ELCR) and yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film, designed to investigate the interaction between photons and magnons at room temperature. This hybrid system has been designed and simulated using the commercial electromagnetic full-wave simulator CST Microwave Studio. The phenomenon of anti-crossing between the photon mode of the ELCR and the magnon modes of the YIG was observed by analyzing the |S21|-versus-frequency spectrum under varying strengths of bias magnetic fields. We present a comprehensive theoretical framework that explains the observed anti-crossing effect resulting from photon-magnon coupling (PMC) and provide estimations for the strength of PMC (Δ). Additionally, the interaction between photons and magnons was manipulated through two distinct methods: by adjusting the thickness (tYIG) of the YIG film and by positioning the YIG films along the microstripline. For the ELCR (for tYIG = 25 μm), Δ comes to 58 MHz, while changing tYIG from 2 μm to 50 μm, enabling more precise control of the Δ parameter across the span of 17 MHz to 84 MHz. Similarly, the YIG positioning at a different location along the microstripline allowed manipulation of Δ from 5 to 50 MHz. The resultant PMC can be significantly tuned by 400% to 900% in a planar-geometry ELCR-YIG hybrid system. This research offers avenues for developing innovative hybrid systems that afford greater control over the magnitude of PMC in a planar configuration, representing a promising direction for future advancements in hybrid magnonic systems.

Magnetic garnets, a diverse group of magnetic insulating materials, have been the subject of extensive research for decades, owing to their versatility and potential for a wide range of applications. In this study, we synthesized Bismuth-Substituted Yttrium Iron Garnet (BiY2Fe5O12: BiYIG) using the solid-state reaction method to explore its structural, optical, and dielectric characteristics. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the attainment of a pure cubic garnet phase in BiYIG, with a lattice parameter of 12.444 Å. Using UV–visible spectroscopy, we determined that the optical band gap of BiYIG is 2.2 eV, indicating n-type semiconductor behavior. We conducted a thorough investigation of the dielectric properties, examining capacitance, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, conductivity, impedance, and modulus, as functions of frequency and temperature. The impedance results revealed that the dielectric relaxation at room temperature was dominated by a Debye-type process, with a shift to a non-Debye-type process becoming apparent as temperature increased. Comprehensive analysis sheds light on the material's transport phenomena and optical attributes, offering insights into the potential of BiYIG for applications in magneto-dielectric and magneto-optical domains, given its high dielectric constant with low dielectric loss, and promising optical properties. These findings position BiYIG as a versatile material and underscore its suitability for advanced applications in future technological developments.

Tuberous xanthomas are nontender, yellow to red papules to nodules that occur on the extensor surface, and trauma-prone areas such as the elbows, knees, Achilles tendon, and buttocks. A 10-year-old female child born out of second-degree consanguineous marriage presented with multiple skin-colored nodular lesions on axillary folds, both elbows, cubital fossa, medial side of the wrist, interphalangeal joints, buttocks, knees, popliteal fossa, and Achilles tendons. After complete evaluation, diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia type IIa with tuberous xanthoma was made. Tuberous xanthoma usually presents in combined type III dyslipidemias, but in our case, it is presented in type IIa familial hypercholesterolemia. Early diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia are important for preventing complications.

SARS-CoV-2 has mutated rapidly since its first case report in Wuhan, China, leading to the emergence of an indefinite number of variants. India has witnessed three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country saw its first wave of SARS-CoV-2 illness from late January 2020 to February 2021. With a peak surge of cases in mid-September 2020, India recorded more than 11 million cases and a death toll of more than 0.165 million at this time. India faced a brutal second wave driven by the emergence of highly infectious SARS-CoV-2 variants B.1.617.2 (Delta variant) and the third wave with the leading cause of BA.2 (Omicron variant), which has led to an unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases in the country. On September 14, 2022, India recorded a cumulative 44.51 million cases of COVID-19 with more than 0.528 million deaths. The discovery of common circulating mutants is facilitated by genome sequencing. The changes in the Spike surface glycoprotein recombinant binding domains served as the critical alterations, resulting in enhanced infectivity and transmissibility, with severe clinical effects. Further, the predominant mutation in the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein; the D614G strains served as a model for vaccine development. The mutation of the Wuhan strain to the Variant of Concern led to a significant increase in SARS-CoV-2 infections. In addition, there was a shift in the age group affected by SARS-CoV-2 variant infection. The current review summarized the COVID-19 pandemic's Variant of Concern and the advent of SARS-CoV-2 in India.

India has a sparkling pharmaceutical sector that holds a distinguished place by producing and supplying high-quality and affordable medicines across the globe. Ensuring the quality and safety of the marketed medicinal products is one of the most important components of the drug regulatory framework and assessment of the quality of medicines is usually achieved by referring to the public standards of the official Pharmacopoeia. In India, the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) is published at regular intervals to fulfill the requirements of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 to ensure the quality of medicines being manufactured and/or marketed in India. The present article aims to provide an overview of the history of the IP, its standards-setting process, and the current status of monographs in the 9th edition of the IP 2022. Special focus is placed on the newly added and upgraded general chapters and monographs within the IP 2022. There are a total of 223 general chapters and 3152 drug monographs available under various categories in the IP 2022. This study also highlights a total of 92 new drug monograph additions and 412 monograph revisions in the IP 2022. It is anticipated that the standards laid down in the IP 2022 will play an imperative role in delivering quality medicines to patients within and outside India.

The present study is the analysis of large scale data (31949 ha area and 79873 farmers) generated through the CFLD on pulses across the major pulses growing states under the ICAR-ATARIs of Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Pune (Maharashtra), Patna (Bihar), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Kolkata (West Bengal), Guwahati (Assam), Shillong (Meghalaya), Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Patna (Bihar). The pulse crops included in this analysis were from all three growing seasons: kharif (pigeonpea-5556 ha, blackgram-6067 ha, and greengram-2689 ha), rabi (chickpea-8376 ha, lentil-3747 ha and field pea-1890 ha), and summer (greengram-3624 ha). The average performance data of CFLD were obtained for the above states for all the crops representing all three growing seasons during the cropping seasons of 2016–17 and 2017–18. Thus, CFLD data were analyzed from across minimum of 21 states (greengram) and maximum of 24 states (blackgram). The major variables analyzed were average yield obtained from the check plots and demonstrations plots. These yields were computed for yield advantages and also compared with the reported district level, state level, national level yields and the potential yields of the respective crops in the given states (data procured from secondary sources for the year 2017–18). Accordingly, the yield advantages (absolute as well as per cent) at various level were analyzed and their degree of variation was computed for all the crops across the seasons. The paper brings out the results of above analyses in objective manner.

Introduction: The safety of medical devices, used in orthopaedics is monitored under the Materiovgilance Programme of India (MvPI). Methods: This article aims to convey the process of Orthopaedic implants (OIs) associated adverse events (AE) reporting to MvPI. Results: This article provides the current practices of adverse events with the use of OIs reporting system evolved at MvPI. Though a system has been put in to focus the safety of OIs, quantity of reports available as negligible. Conclusion: Therefore, there is a need to continuously sensitize the healthcare providers and orthopaedicians about OIs adverse events reporting procedure. This article also urges for collaborative approach among the stakeholders.

Orientia tsutsugamushi is responsible for causing scrub typhus (ST) and is the leading cause of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in AES patients. A rapid and sensitive method to detect scrub typhus on-site is essential for the timely deployment of control measures. In the current study, we developed a rapid, sensitive, and instrument-free lateral flow assay (LFA) detection method based on CRISPR/Cas12a technology for diagnosing ST (named LoCIST). The method is completed in three steps: first, harnessing the ability of recombinase polymerase for isothermal amplification of the target gene; second, CRISPR/Cas12a-based recognition of the target; and third, end-point detection by LFA. The detection limit of LoCIST was found to be one gene copy of ST genomic DNA per reaction, and the process was complete within an hour. In 81 clinical samples, the assay showed no cross-reactivity with other rickettsial DNA and was 100% consistent with PCR detection of ST. LoCIST demonstrated 97.6% sensitivity and 100% specificity. Overall, the LoCIST offers a novel alternative for the portable, simple, sensitive, and specific detection of ST, and it may help prevent and control AES outbreaks due to ST. In conclusion, LoCIST does not require specialized equipment and poses a potential for future applications as a point-of-care diagnostic.

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is sweeping around the world at a rapid pace resulting in severe health crises across the globe. The pandemic condition has forced the government, regulatory authorities, bio/pharmaceutical industry, and healthcare system to take novel measures to address the crisis. The race for development of medicines and vaccines for treatment of COVID-19 is well under way and regulatory authorities are making efforts to safely deliver it into hands of public. As ever, pharmacopoeias played an active role in providing a framework of standards for the development, manufacturing, and quality of life-saving COVID-19 related medicines. The COVID-19 crisis has compelled the pharmacopoeias to redefine their role and show unprecedented levels of flexibility in extending their services to the stakeholders, developing new drug standards, and simultaneously ensuring the safety of their staff. During this pandemic, pharmacopoeias operated in a triangular chain system with regulators and pharmaceutical manufacturers to evaluate potential products for treatment of COVID-19. The present article provides an insight on the roles, challenges, and responses of the pharmacopoeias to deal with the current situation due to COVID-19 and emphasizes on new opportunities for collaborations to set standards for COVID-19 related drugs.

The lethal pathogenic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has caused the COVID-19 pandemic, posing serious risks to people. The clove-like spike (S) protein that distinguishes coronaviruses from other viruses is important for viral pathogenicity, evolution, and transmission. The investigation of the unique structural mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein among 34 Asian countries, as well as the resulting phylogenetic relationship, provided critical information in understanding the pathogenesis. This can be utilized for the discovery of possible treatments and vaccine development. The current study analyzed and depicted phylogenetic and evolutionary models useful for understanding SARS-CoV-2 human-human transmission dynamics in Asian regions with shared land borders. Further, integrated bioinformatics analysis was performed to predict the pathogenic potential and stability of 53 mutational positions among 34 coronavirus strains. Mutations at positions N969K, D614G and S884F have deleterious effects on protein function. These findings are crucial because the Asian mutations could potentially provide a vaccine candidate with co-protection against all SARS-CoV-2 strains. This region is vulnerable because of the high population density and the volume of domestic and international travel for business and tourism. These discoveries would also aid in the development of plans for governments and the general populace to implement all required biocontainment protocols common to all countries.

Dengue fever is an endemic disease in India, transmitted by an infected mosquito bite. In India, the number of concurrent infections and the circulation of multiple dengue virus (DENV) serotypes has increased in recent decades. Molecular surveillance among the DENV serotype is important to keep track of the circulating serotypes, evolutionary changes, and key mutations that can alter the diagnostics. The current study included patients admitted for dengue in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh (E-UP) region during 2018–2019. The genetic characterization of the circulating DENV was accomplished through partial CprM (511 bp) gene amplification via reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the circulation of all four DENV1-4 serotypes. DENV-2 was the most abundant serotype (44%, 27/61), followed by DENV-3 (32%, 20/61). DENV-1 had a 16% (10/61) predominance, while DENV-4 (6%, 4/61) was found to be the least abundant serotype. DENV-2 genotypes were distributed among lineages I (7.4%), II (85%) and III (7.4%) of genotype IV, DENV-3 to lineage III of genotype III, DENV-1 to genotype III; DENV-2 to lineage B (75%) and C (25%) of genotype I. This primary report on the co-circulation of DENV1-4 serotypes from the E-UP region highlights the requirement of continuous molecular surveillance for monitoring circulating DENV serotypes.

Background: Studies showed olfactory disturbances in COVID patients. This has attracted focus of clinicians as an easy clinical screening tool in suspected population. Material and methods: 70 mild and moderate category COVID-19 RT-PCR positive patients, more than 10 years of age were tested on day of admission for olfaction with serial dilution of n-butanol and asked to grade severity of their olfactory dysfunction according to visual analogue score from 1-10. Results: Fatigue 42 (93.33%), sore throat 37 (82.22%), fever 36 (80%) and dyspnea 23 (51.11%) were the most common symptoms in moderate patients. Diabetes, hypertension and allergy were the three prominent risk factors. At time of admission, n-butanol diagnosed 20 patients having olfactory dysfunction compared to 11 by VAS. Patients tend to grade their dysfunction higher on VAS whereas the n-butanol test classified their olfactory dysfunction lower. Viral load and high CRP were not found to be significantly related with olfactory dysfunction. d-Dimer and LDH levels were found statistically associated with higher grading of olfactory dysfunction detected by n-butanol. Conclusion: The majority of cases developed hyposmia before they were admitted to hospital even before they realized that they were having hyposmia as revealed by n-butanol testing. We should go for objective tests of olfaction.

Aim The aim of the study is to determine improvements in perinatal mortality at the end of the first 2 years from the initiation of the Samrakshan program of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association. Methods Samrakshan is a screening program of pregnant women that uses trimester-specific risk assessment protocols including maternal demographics, mean arterial pressure, and fetal Doppler studies to classify women as high risk or low risk for preterm preeclampsia (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR). Low dose aspirin 150 mg daily once at bedtime was started for pregnant women identified as high risk in the 11–136/7 weeks screening. The third-trimester screening focused on the staging of FGR and protocol-based management for childbirth and risk assessment for PE. Outcomes of childbirth including gestational age at delivery, development of PE, and perinatal mortality outcomes were collected. Results Radiologists from 38 districts of 16 states of India participated in the Samrakshan program that screened 2,816 first trimester, 3,267 second trimester, and 3,272 third trimester pregnant women, respectively. At 2 years, preterm PE was identified in 2.76%, preterm births in 19.28%, abnormal Doppler study in 25.76% of third trimester pregnancies, and 75.32% of stage 1 FGR delivered at term. The neonatal mortality rate was 9.86/1,000 live births, perinatal mortality rate was 18.97/1,000 childbirths, and maternal mortality was 58/100,000 live births compared with 29.5, 36, and 113, respectively in 2016. Conclusion Fetal Doppler integrated antenatal ultrasound studies in Samrakshan led to a significant reduction in preterm PE rates, preterm birth rates, and a significant improvement in mean birth weights. Perinatal, neonatal, and maternal mortality rates are significantly better than the targets for 2030 set by the Sustainable Development Goals-3.

Abstract Synthesis of nanomaterials following green routes have drawn much attention in recent years due to the low cost, easy and eco-friendly approaches involved therein. Therefore, the current study is focused towards the synthesis of Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite using waste pulp of Jamun (Syzygium cumini) and iron nitrate as the precursor of iron in an eco-friendly way. The synthesized Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite has been extensively characterized through numerous techniques to explore the physicochemical properties, including X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Ultraviolet-Vis spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope, high resolution transmission electron microscope and vibrating sample magnetometer. Further, efficiency of the Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite has been evaluated to improve the incubation temperature, thermal/pH stability of the crude cellulase enzymes obtained from the lab isolate fungal strain Cladosporium cladosporioides NS2 via solid state fermentation. It is found that the presence of 0.5% Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite showed optimum incubation temperature and thermal stability in the long temperature range of 50–60 °C for 15 h along with improved pH stability in the range of pH 3.5–6.0. The presented study may have potential application in bioconversion of waste biomass at high temperature and broad pH range.

BackgroundRecent studies on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) reveal that Omicron variant BA.1 and sub-lineages have revived the concern over resistance to antiviral drugs and vaccine-induced immunity. The present study aims to analyze the clinical profile and genome characterization of the SARS-CoV-2 variant in eastern Uttar Pradesh (UP), North India.MethodsWhole-genome sequencing (WGS) was conducted for 146 SARS-CoV-2 samples obtained from individuals who tested coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive between the period of 1 January 2022 and 24 February 2022, from three districts of eastern UP. The details regarding clinical and hospitalized status were captured through telephonic interviews after obtaining verbal informed consent. A maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree was created for evolutionary analysis using MEGA7.ResultsThe mean age of study participants was 33.9 ± 13.1 years, with 73.5% accounting for male patients. Of the 98 cases contacted by telephone, 30 (30.6%) had a travel history (domestic/international), 16 (16.3%) reported having been infected with COVID-19 in past, 79 (80.6%) had symptoms, and seven had at least one comorbidity. Most of the sequences belonged to the Omicron variant, with BA.1 (6.2%), BA.1.1 (2.7%), BA.1.1.1 (0.7%), BA.1.1.7 (5.5%), BA.1.17.2 (0.7%), BA.1.18 (0.7%), BA.2 (30.8%), BA.2.10 (50.7%), BA.2.12 (0.7%), and B.1.617.2 (1.3%) lineages. BA.1 and BA.1.1 strains possess signature spike mutations S:A67V, S:T95I, S:R346K, S:S371L, S:G446S, S:G496S, S:T547K, S:N856K, and S:L981F, and BA.2 contains S:V213G, S:T376A, and S:D405N. Notably, ins214EPE (S1- N-Terminal domain) mutation was found in a significant number of Omicron BA.1 and sub-lineages. The overall Omicron BA.2 lineage was observed in 79.5% of women and 83.2% of men.ConclusionThe current study showed a predominance of the Omicron BA.2 variant outcompeting the BA.1 over a period in eastern UP. Most of the cases had a breakthrough infection following the recommended two doses of vaccine with four in five cases being symptomatic. There is a need to further explore the immune evasion properties of the Omicron variant.

ObjectiveTo assess factors associated with COVID-19 stigmatizing attitudes in the community and stigma experiences of COVID-19 recovered individuals during first wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted in 18 districts located in 7 States in India during September 2020 to January 2021 among adults > 18 years of age selected through systematic random sampling. Data on socio demographic and COVID-19 knowledge were collected from 303 COVID-19 recovered and 1,976 non-COVID-19 infected individuals from community using a survey questionnaire. Stigma was assessed using COVID-19 Stigma Scale and Community COVID-19 Stigma Scale developed for the study. Informed consent was sought from the participants. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis were conducted.ResultsHalf of the participants (51.3%) from the community reported prevalence of severe stigmatizing attitudes toward COVID-19 infected while 38.6% of COVID-19 recovered participants reported experiencing severe stigma. Participants from the community were more likely to report stigmatizing attitudes toward COVID-19 infected if they were residents of high prevalent COVID-19 zone (AOR: 1.5; CI: 1.2–1.9), staying in rural areas (AOR: 1.5; CI:1.1–1.9), belonged to the age group of 18–30 years (AOR: 1.6; CI 1.2–2.0), were male (AOR: 1.6; CI: 1.3–1.9), illiterate (AOR: 2.7; CI: 1.8–4.2), or living in Maharashtra (AOR: 7.4; CI: 4.8–11.3). COVID-19 recovered participants had higher odds of experiencing stigma if they had poor knowledge about COVID-19 transmission (AOR: 2.8; CI: 1.3–6.3), were staying for 6–15 years (AOR: 3.24; CI: 1.1–9.4) in the current place of residence or belonged to Delhi (AOR: 5.3; CI: 1.04–26.7).ConclusionFindings indicated presence of stigmatizing attitudes in the community as well as experienced stigma among COVID-19 recovered across selected study sites in India during the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Study recommends timely dissemination of factual information to populations vulnerable to misinformation and psychosocial interventions for individuals affected by stigma.

Background: Earlier serosurveys in India revealed seroprevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) of 0.73% in May–June 2020 and 7.1% in August–September 2020. A third serosurvey was conducted between December 2020 and January 2021 to estimate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among the general population and healthcare workers (HCWs) in India. Methods: The third serosurvey was conducted in the same 70 districts as the first and second serosurveys. For each district, at least 400 individuals aged ≥10 years from the general population and 100 HCWs from subdistrict-level health facilities were enrolled. Serum samples from the general population were tested for the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against the nucleocapsid (N) and spike (S1-RBD) proteins of SARS-CoV-2, whereas serum samples from HCWs were tested for anti-S1-RBD. Weighted seroprevalence adjusted for assay characteristics was estimated. Results: Of the 28,598 serum samples from the general population, 4585 (16%) had IgG antibodies against the N protein, 6647 (23.2%) had IgG antibodies against the S1-RBD protein, and 7436 (26%) had IgG antibodies against either the N protein or the S1-RBD protein. Weighted and assay-characteristic-adjusted seroprevalence against either of the antibodies was 24.1% [95% confidence interval (CI) 23.0–25.3%]. Among 7385 HCWs, the seroprevalence of anti-S1-RBD IgG antibodies was 25.6% (95% CI 23.5–27.8%). Conclusions: Nearly one in four individuals aged ≥10 years from the general population as well as HCWs in India had been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 by December 2020.

There is an urgent need for identification of eco-friendly and cleaner production systems that are more productive, profitable, efficiently use energy/water/carbon input and are environmentally safer. Under that context, a long-term experiment was conducted during 2019–21 at the farmers’ fields of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gaya, Bihar. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the productivity of diverse cropping systems for irrigated and rainfed conditions. Nine cropping system, viz. transplanted puddled rice (TPR)–wheat (conventional-till)-fallow (farmers practices) [CS1],TPR-wheat(zero-till)-mung (ZT) [CS2], Conventional-till direct seeded rice (CTDSR)-mustard (ZT)-mung (ZT) [CS3], ZTDSR-lentil (ZT)-fallow [CS4], Maize (CT)-lentil (ZT)-mung (ZT) [CS5], Bajra (CT)- lentil (ZT)-mung (ZT) [CS6], Bajra (CT)-wheat (ZT)-mung (ZT) [CS7], TPR-chickpea (ZT)-fallow [CS8] and TPR-maize (CT)-fallow [CS9] were used for the present study. Maximum system productivity was recorded with maize (CT)-lentil (ZT)-mung (ZT) (13.2 t/ha), which was 46, 3.9, 13.8, 94.7, 22.2, 15.8, 39.5, 11.9% higher compared to CS1, CS2, CS3, CS4, CS6, CS7, CS8 and CS9, respectively. Net returns (`211677/ha) and Benefit cost (B:C) ratio (3.59) were recorded maximum with maize (CT)-lentil (ZT)-mung (ZT). Land use efficiency was the maximum with TPR-wheat (ZT)-mung (ZT) (92.6%). Carbohydrate equivalent yield was also maximum with TPR-wheat (ZT)-mung (ZT). Diversification of rice-wheat system with millets i.e. Bajra (CT)-lentil (ZT)-mung (ZT)/Bajra (CT)-wheat (ZT)- mung (ZT) improves the system productivity by 19.5–26.1% compared to TPR-wheat (CT)-fallow. Thus, the present study could be important to identify an alternate cropping systems for enhancing the overall system productivity and profitability sustainably through adoption of environment-friendly technologies.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are major concerns to the public health. To monitor ADRs and ensure patients' safety, the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) has been established by the Government of India in 2010. The programme is intact with the Public-Private Partnership (3Ps) in pharmacovigilance for quality services, better management of human resources and risk minimization. The present work is aimed at assessing the 3Ps engagement, performance and tangible outcomes in PvPI and also mapping of resources. The study was carried out for the period of 2011 to 2021 by assessing the various benchmarking tools such as 3Ps categorization, utilization of ADRs reporting tools, trainings, and the Individual Case Safety Reports' (ICSRs) quantity, quality and transmission for regulatory intervention (RI). Under PvPI, Central or State Government medical institutions/hospitals and public health programmes constitute public partners while private medical institutions/hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, corporate hospitals and professional bodies account for private partners. We observed that public partners extensively used ADR reporting form and toll-free helpline number while private partners used mobile based app and emails/post as preferred tools for reporting ADRs. Contribution of public sector in training programmes organized, stakeholders trained and sharing of resource materials was way higher than the private sector. The study revealed that 55.1 and 44.9% ICSRs were received from public and private partners, respectively during the study period. The quality completeness of data received from public partners was found to be 0.92/1 as compared to 0.46/1 from the private partners. The ICSRs data transmitted for RI process from the public and private partners (till 2018) was found to be 79 and 21%, respectively. In terms of sharing of resources for training and capacity building, the public sector played a major role. The 3Ps in India are enabled to establish a robust system for medicines' safety surveillance; however a more focused approach is required in mapping the resources.

Background: SARS-CoV-2 or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, is a virus that causes severe respiratory illness, also known as COVID-19, is a global pandemic caused by a novel coronavirus, firstly reported China (Wuhan City) on Dec, 2019. In India, Kerala is the first state in which the COVID-19 first case has registered which has raised to three cases by 3 Feb, 2020. Purpose: The aim of this research is to map the impact and assessment of the COVID 19 pandemic situation using geospatial technology in Rajasthan and suggest various measures to control the pandemic situation. Objectives: (a) Assessing and mapping the affected parts of Rajasthan and evaluating the risk of the pandemic on tourism, and (b) Initially tracking and forecasting the cases of COVID-19 in the study area. Methodology: The methodology consists of four main phases. In the first phase understanding the risk of the pandemic situation at three primary levels i.e. risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk management after that, second step is to identify the target risk zones of COVID-19 cases using geospatial technology based on bulk screening. Assessment and mapping of pandemic risk is the third phase. In the fourth phase, treatment of the risk and evaluation of future occurrence possibilities. Result: COVID 19 pandemic is the greatest threat globally. Geospatial technology provides valuable support in assessing and mapping the risk of COVID 19 cases in Rajasthan at the initial level. Conclusion: This study shows that the geospatial technique contributes very significantly in detecting pre and post COVID 19 pandemic conditions and helps in proper decision-making, not only in Rajasthan but also in the entire world.

Oligodontia is a developmental anomaly which represents the congenital absence of more than six teeth in primary, permanent, or both dentitions and may or may not be associated with a syndrome. These patients suffer from occlusal disharmony, problems in speech and esthetic appearance. A multidisciplinary approach becomes mandatory to manage such patients to rehabilitate their oral function. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment become important. This is a case report of a 15-year-old female patient with oligodontia, who was rehabilitated with removable overlay prostheses fabricated digitally, without modifying her existing dentition, to restore mastication, phonetics, and esthetics. Such an approach is essential for children who have not completed their growth. The monolithic three-dimensional (3D) printed denture has increased fracture resistance and higher wear resistance compared to conventional denture. It can also be easily adjusted, repaired and if required, reproduced. This article highlights the methodology, pros and cons of fabricating 3D printed dentures for such patients.

Conventional digital holography uses the technique of combining two coherent light fields and the numerical reconstruction of the recorded hologram leads to the object amplitude and phase information. Despite significant developments in the DH with coherent light, complex field imaging with arbitrary coherent sources is also desired for various reasons. Here, we present a possible experimental approach for holography with incoherent light. In the case of incoherent light, the complex spatial coherence function is a measurable quantity and the incoherent object holograms are recorded as the coherence function. Thus, to record complex spatial coherence a square Sagnac radial shearing interferometer is designed with the phase-shifting approach. The five-step phase-shifting method helps to measure the fringe visibility and the corresponding phase, which jointly represents the complex coherence function. The inverse Fourier transform of the complex coherence function helps to retrieve the object information.

In this paper, we present a correlation-based imaging technique in a single-pixel imaging scheme using Hadamard basis illumination. The Hadamard basis, which has the characteristics of a two-bit value {−1, 1} and sparsity in its transformed domain, has been used in the illumination patterns and successfully utilized for imaging the incoherent target. It gives image reconstruction even in low-light conditions. Such deterministic patterns also help to solve the problem of large numbers of measurements in single-pixel imaging, and hence simplify the experimental implementation. Furthermore, to compare the quality of imaging with Hadamard basis patterns, we also compare imaging with Fourier basis patterns and simulation results of both methods, namely Hadamard and Fourier basis, are presented.

Behind succeeding measurements of anomalies in semileptonic decays at LHCb and several collider experiments hinting at the possible violation of lepton flavor universality, we undertake a concise review of theoretical foundations of the tree- and loop-level b-hadron decays, b→clνl and b→sl+l− along with experimental environments. We revisit the world averages for RD(D*), RK(K*), RJ/ψ, and Rηc, for the semileptonic transitions and provide results within the framework of the relativistic independent quark model in addition to the results from model-independent studies. If the ongoing evaluation of the data of LHC Run 2 confirms the measurements of Run 1, then the statistical significance of the effect in each decay channel is likely to reach 5 σ. A confirmation of these measurements would soon turn out to be the first remarkable observation of physics beyond the Standard Model, providing a wider outlook on the understanding of new physics.

During modern era, mobile phones, televisions, microwaves, radio, and wireless devices, etc., have become an integral part of our daily lifestyle. All these technologies employ radiofrequency (RF) waves and everyone is exposed to them, since they are widespread in the environment. The increasing risk of male infertility is a growing concern to the human population. Excessive and long-term exposure to non-ionizing radiation may cause genetic health effects on the male reproductive system which could be a primitive factor to induce cancer risk. With respect to the concerned aspect, many possible RFR induced genotoxic studies have been reported; however, reports are very contradictory and showed the possible effect on humans and animals. Thus, the present review is focusing on the genomic impact of the radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) underlying the male infertility issue. In this review, both in vitro and in vivo studies have been incorporated explaining the role of RFR on the male reproductive system. It includes RFR induced-DNA damage, micronuclei formation, chromosomal aberrations, SCE generation, etc. In addition, attention has also been paid to the ROS generation after radiofrequency radiation exposure showing a rise in oxidative stress, base adduct formation, sperm head DNA damage, or cross-linking problems between DNA & protein.

A 70-year-old male with prior orthotopic heart transplant developed left bundle branch block followed by new-onset left ventricular systolic dysfunction. He underwent His bundle pacing for cardiac resynchronization therapy with complete normalization of his ejection fraction. This is the first reported case of left bundle branch block–induced cardiomyopathy in a transplanted heart. (Level of Difficulty: Advanced.)

Uttar Pradesh is the densely populated state of India and is the sixth highest COVID-19 affected state with 22,904 deaths recorded on November 12, 2021. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) is being used as a potential approach to investigate genomic evolution of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. In this study, a total of 87 SARS-CoV-2 genomes−49 genomes from the first wave (March 2020 to February 2021) and 38 genomes from the second wave (March 2021 to July 2021) from Eastern Uttar Pradesh (E-UP) were sequenced and analyzed to understand its evolutionary pattern and variants against publicaly available sequences. The complete genome analysis of SARS-CoV-2 during the first wave in E-UP largely reported transmission of G, GR, and GH clades with specific mutations. In contrast, variants of concerns (VOCs) such as Delta (71.0%) followed by Delta AY.1 (21.05%) and Kappa (7.9%) lineages belong to G clade with prominent signature amino acids were introduced in the second wave. Signature substitution at positions S:L452R, S:P681R, and S:D614G were commonly detected in the Delta, Delta AY.1, and Kappa variants whereas S:T19R and S:T478K were confined to Delta and Delta AY.1 variants only. Vaccine breakthrough infections showed unique mutational changes at position S:D574Y in the case of the Delta variant, whereas position S:T95 was conserved among Kappa variants compared to the Wuhan isolate. During the transition from the first to second waves, a shift in the predominant clade from GH to G clade was observed. The identified spike protein mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 genome could be used as the potential target for vaccine and drug development to combat the effects of the COVID-19 disease.

The higher airborne microbial concentration in indoor areas might be responsible for the adverse indoor air quality, which relates well with poor respiratory and general health effects in the form of Sick building syndromes. The current study aimed to isolate and characterize the seasonal (winter and spring) levels of culturable bio-aerosols from indoor air, implicating human health by using an epidemiological health survey. Microorganisms were identified by standard macro and microbiological methods, followed by biochemical testing and molecular techniques. Sampling results revealed the bacterial and fungal aerosol concentrations ranging between (300-3650 CFU/m3) and (300-4150 CFU/m3) respectively, in different microenvironments during the winter season (December-February). However, in spring (March-May), bacterial and fungal aerosol concentrations were monitored, ranging between (450-5150 CFU/m3) and (350-5070 CFU/m3) respectively. Interestingly, Aspergillus and Cladosporium were the majorly recorded fungi whereas, Staphylococcus, Streptobacillus, and Micrococcus found predominant bacterial genera among all the sites. Taken together, the elevated levels of bioaerosols are the foremost risk factor that can lead to various respiratory and general health issues in additional analysis, the questionnaire survey indicated the headache (28%) and allergy (20%) were significant indoor health concerns. This type of approach will serve as a foundation for assisting residents in taking preventative measures to avoid exposure to dangerous bioaerosols.

A new Schiff base of S-benzyldithiocarbazate has been synthesized by the 1:1 condensation of 4-NN biscynodiethylaminobenzaldehyde and S-benzyldithiocarbazate. The structure of Schiff base was determined by FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic data. The synthesized Schiff base molecule has been subjected to theoretical studies by using semi-empirical AM1 and PM3 quantum-chemical methods. The molecular geometry, vibration frequencies, HOMO–LUMO energy gap, molecular hardness (η), ionization energy (IE), electron affinity (EA), total energy and dipole moment were analyzed. The experimental results of the compound have been compared with theoretical results and it is found that the experimental data show good agreement with calculated values. The burden of allergic illnesses is continuously rising, and patient diagnosis is a significant problem because of how intricately hereditary and environmental variables interact. The past three to four decades have seen an outbreak of allergies in high-income countries. According to reports on the illness, asthma affects around 300 million individuals worldwide. Identifying clinically important allergens for the accurate classification of IgE-mediated allergy respiratory disease diagnosis would be beneficial for implementing standardized allergen-associated therapy. Therefore, the current study includes an in silico analysis to identify potential IgE-mediated allergens in date palms and cockroaches. Such an immunoinformatic approach aids the prioritization of allergens with probable involvement in IgE-mediated allergic respiratory diseases. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) was used for molecular dynamic simulations, antigen–antibody docking analyses, epitope identifications, and characterizations. The potential of these allergens (Per a7, Per a 1.0102, and Bla g 1.0101) in IgE-mediated allergic respiratory diseases was explored through the evaluation of physicochemical characteristics, interaction observations, docking, and molecular dynamics simulations for drug and vaccine development.

The ability and potency of bacterial species to form biofilms, which show antibiotic resistance thereby avoiding antibiotic surfaces, is a major cause of prolonged infections. Various advanced approaches have been employed to prevent or damage bacterial biofilms, formed by a variety of bacterial strains, to help prevent the associated infectious disease. In this context, zinc-based nanostructures have been recognized as a potential antibiotic agent against a broad spectrum of bacterial communities. As a result, a sustainable and green synthesis method was adapted in the present study to synthesize a Zn(OH)2/ZnO-based bionanocomposite, in which aqueous extracts of waste pomegranate peels (Punica granatum) were employed as a natural bioreducing agent to prepare the bionanocomposite at room temperature. Furthermore, FT-IR, XRD, DLS, UV-Visible, PL spectroscopy, FE-SEM, and TEM were used to characterize the green route synthesized a Zn(OH)2/ZnO bionanocomposite. The average crystallite size was determined using the Scherrer relation to be 38 nm, and the DLS results indicated that the Zn(OH)2/ZnO bionanocomposite had a hydrodynamic size of 170 nm. On the other hand, optical properties investigated through UV-Vis and PL spectroscopy explored the energy bandgap between 2.80 and 4.46 eV, corresponding to the three absorption edges, and it covered the blue spectrum when the sample was excited at 370 nm. Furthermore, the impact of this green route synthesized a Zn(OH)2/ZnO bionanocomposite on the biofilm degradation efficiency of the pathogenic bacterial strain Bacillus subtilis PF_1 using the Congored method was investigated. The Congored assay clearly explored the biofilm degradation efficiency in the presence of a 50 mg/mL and 75 mg/mL concentration of the Zn(OH)2/ZnO bionanocomposite against the bacterial strain Bacillus subtilis PF_1 grown for 24 h. This study can be further applied to the preparation of bionanocomposites following a low-cost green synthesis approach, and thus prepared nanostructures can be exploited as advanced antimicrobial agents, which could be of great interest to prevent various infectious diseases.

A study was conducted among 570 farmers spread across 57 districts (out of 75) of Uttar Pradesh from 10 April to 10 May 2020 by telephonic contact using the pre-structured interview schedule to assess the impact of CoVID 19 lockdown on the investment and profitability of major bovines of the state namely cattle and buffalo each with 460 data points. Different indicators for research variables namely investment pattern and profitability were measured by asking direct questions to the randomly selected 10 farmers from each district during the lockdown period and their experiences during last year (2019). The collected data were subjected for descriptive analysis - average, percentage, rank, standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV), and also to the paired t-test to see the significance of difference, if any. Findings of the study showed that all the investments indicators like feed and fodder price, treatment cost, animal handling charges and total cost of milk production of cattle and buffalo enhanced significantly during the lockdown. The magnitude varied as per the nature of the cost components. The price variation was observed across the sample respondents and district. Similarly, for profitability indicators, there was reduction in the magnitude of milk sale (13-15%), selling price of milk (4-5%) and B:C ratio (5.2 -7.3%) significantly owing to lockdown. The perceptions of KVK experts from across the selected districts were also analyzed. During this period, KVKs of the state also disseminated various advisories, instructions, crop and enterprise-specific recommendations.

Owing to better mechanical properties and shape memory effect, the NiTi composites fabricated by powder metallurgy are suitable for biomedical implants. However, the excessive porosity and formation of micro-cracks are the major issues related to the NiTi composite. This work focused on developing crack-free dense NiTi composites by newly developed uni-axial compaction die. The work includes the design and manufacturing of uni-axial compaction die. The die was tested by SOLIDWORKS software in a simulated environment. Further, composite samples were successfully fabricated without circumferential micro-cracks at 1910.82 MPa compaction pressure. The effects of compaction pressure on microstructural, densification, and mechanical behavior of NiTi composites were also analyzed. Microstructural characterization shows that the Ni-rich phase increased and the Ti-rich phase decreased with the increase of compaction pressure. The porosity reduces from 17.04 to 8.75% by increasing the compaction pressure from 1273.88 to 1910.82 MPa, and a maximum density of 5.50 g.cm–3 was obtained. The NiTi150 composite has similar Young’s modulus, and compressive strength (6.93 GPa and 94.36 MPa) compared to cortical and cancellous bone. The high compaction pressure also increases the micro-hardness of NiTi composite up to 453.8 HV0.5.

A wideband antenna with dual band characteristic at 5.33/14.3GHz with resonating frequencies for wireless applications is presented. The strategy of the design is to introduce multiband in antenna band. Bandwidth of the antenna increases by embedding annular ring on the radiating patch and four bands are achieved by introducing coupling gap between the patches. Surface current distribution is analyzed at different resonating frequencies for understanding the radiation mechanism and effect of annular ring. The antenna parameters such as return loss, radiation pattern, gain, VSWR and group delay are discussed. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed dual band antenna at lower resonant frequency is 12.7% (simulated) and 9.8 % (measured) whereas at upper resonant frequency is 15.3 % (simulated) and 13.97 % (measured).

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack harms the digital availability in Internet. The user’s perspective of getting quick and effective services may be badly hit by the DDoS attackers. There are several reports of DDoS attack incidences that have caused devastating effects on the user and web services in the Internet world. In the present digital world dominated by wireless, mobile and IoT devices, the numbers of users are increasing day by day. Most of the users are novice and therefore their devices either fell prey to DDoS attacks or unknowingly add themselves to the DDoS attack Army. We soon will witness the 5G mobile revolution but there are reports that 5G networks are also falling prey to DDoS attacks and hence, the realization of DoS attack as a threat needs to be understood. The paper targets to assess the DDoS attack threat. It identifies the impact of attack and also reviews existing Indian laws.

Here the authors show that a SCFA, pentanoate, suppresses autoimmune inflammation in mouse models of colitis and multiple sclerosis via epigenetic modulation of immune cell metabolic and functional pathways.

The early management, diagnosis, and treatment of emerging and re-emerging infections and the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are necessary. The Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas system has recently acquired popularity as a diagnostic tool due to its ability to target specific genes. It uses Cas enzymes and a guide RNA (gRNA) to cleave target DNA or RNA. The discovery of collateral cleavage in CRISPR-Cas effectors such as Cas12a and Cas13a was intensively repurposed for the development of instrument-free, sensitive, precise and rapid point-of-care diagnostics. CRISPR/Cas demonstrated proficiency in detecting non-nucleic acid targets including protein, analyte, and hormones other than nucleic acid. CRISPR/Cas effectors can provide multiple detections simultaneously. The present review highlights the technical challenges of integrating CRISPR/Cas technology into the onsite assessment of clinical and other specimens, along with current improvements in CRISPR bio-sensing for nucleic acid and non-nucleic acid targets. It also highlights the current applications of CRISPR/Cas technologies.

Presence of significant quantities of toxic dyes has led to contamination of fresh water resources. The limited availability of fresh water has escalated the pressure on maintaining sustainable agricultural production to ensure food security. So , there is a need to recycle the wastewater and to explore the possibility to reuse it for irrigation purpose. Amongst different techniques, adsorption has been found to be the best way for the remediation of colored effluents. The concept of recycling and reuse of wastewater has propelled the exploration of potential inexpensive adsorbents. Clays are cheap, non-toxic abundantly available natural materials. Over the recent years, researchers have focused on clays modification to enhance their adsorption efficiency for the remediation of contaminants such as dyes from wastewater. Therefore, the present article is written with an aim to systematically summarize the recent advancements in clay modification and their potential as effective adsorbing agents for the removal of various dyes from contaminated wastewaters. A detailed description of various clay modification techniques such as treatment with surfactant, acid, heat, plasma, polymer, silane, metal oxide has been presented here. The effect of various physicochemical process parameters such as solution pH, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage and temperature on the performance of modified clays has also been presented. Based upon the final outcome of literature review, it can be concluded that modified clays are much better adsorbing agents in comparison to the natural clays. Hence, modified clays represent an economically viable and sustainable option for the purification of wastewaters containing dyes and it can be utilized for irrigating different crops at the places where fresh water resources have either depleted or limited.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks third among the most commonly occurring cancers worldwide, and it causes half a million deaths annually. Alongside mechanistic study for CRC detection and treatment by conventional techniques, new technologies have been developed to study CRC. These technologies include genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics which elucidate DNA markers, RNA transcripts, protein and, metabolites produced inside the colon and rectum part of the gut. All these approaches form the omics arena, which presents a remarkable opportunity for the discovery of novel prognostic, diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers and also delineate the underlying mechanism of CRC causation, which may further help in devising treatment strategies. This review also mentions the latest developments in metagenomics and culturomics as emerging evidence suggests that metagenomics of gut microbiota has profound implications in the causation, prognosis, and treatment of CRC. A majority of bacteria cannot be studied as they remain unculturable, so culturomics has also been strengthened to develop culture conditions suitable for the growth of unculturable bacteria and identify unknown bacteria. The overall purpose of this review is to succinctly evaluate the application of omics technologies in colorectal cancer research for improving the diagnosis and treatment strategies.

The present investigation is an attempt to map the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) value chains existing in the Champawat district of the Uttarakhand (during 2016–17) to know the market dynamics in it. Estimation of production dynamics showed an average cost of production of tomato as ₹ 80077/ha with an average net return of ₹ 158123/ ha. Data collected from the study area revealed the existence of two marketing channels with different players and interconnection (C1: Producer- Retailers-Consumer and C2: Producer -Whole sellers – Retailers-Consumers) on which tomato farmers were dependent to reach the final consumers. Value chain mapping revealed that producers share in consumers’ price in net benefit terms for C1 was 52.06% and for C2 was 27.06% though the value added for tomato till reaching the final consumers in both channels were apparently same. This showed the necessity of tactical policy integration in value chain procedural development in tomato. Reforms are also needed in the existing marketing mechanism to make a change in it, in an ‘actor-activity-client oriented beneficial and profitable’ direction.

To develop diagnostics and detection methods, current research is focussed on targeting the detection of coronavirus based on its RNA. Besides the RNA target, research reports are coming to develop diagnostics by targeting structure and other parts of coronavirus. PCR based detection system is widely used and various improvements in the PCR based detection system can be seen in the recent research reports. This review will discuss multiple detection methods for coronavirus for developing appropriate, reliable, and fast alternative techniques. Considering the current scenario of COVID-19 diagnostics around the world and an urgent need for the development of reliable and cheap diagnostic, various techniques based on CRISPR technology, antibody, MIP, LAMP, microarray, etc. should be discussed and tried.

In this study, we theoretically investigated Methyl hydrazinecarbodithioate by quantum chemical calculations for geometry optimization, vibration frequencies, and electronic structure parameters. The geometry optimization by DFT, ab initio MP2 method and the frequency calculation by DFT method was performed at the highest available Pople style 6-311G++(3df,3pd) basis set level. The semi-empirical calculations were performed by the latest PM7 method. The theoretically obtained results were compared with the experimental data. Conformational behavior, frontier molecular orbitals, molecular electrostatic potential, electron localization function, and non-covalent interaction plots were also analyzed. The study explained the geometry, conformational flexibility and relative stability of different conformers.

Abstract Satellite based remote sensing technology has proven to be an effectual tool in analysis of drainage networks, study of surface morphological features and their correlation with groundwater management prospect at basin level. The present study highlights the effectiveness and advantage of remote sensing and GIS-based analysis for quantitative and qualitative assessment of flood plain region of lower Kosi river basin based on morphometric analysis. In this study, ASTER DEM is used to extract the vital hydrological parameters of lower Kosi river basin in ARC GIS software. Morphometric parameters, e.g., stream order, stream length, bifurcation ratio, drainage density, drainage frequency, drainage texture, form factor, circularity ratio, elongation ratio, etc., have been calculated for the Kosi basin and their hydrological inferences were discussed. Most of the morphometric parameters such as bifurcation ratio, drainage density, drainage frequency, drainage texture concluded that basin has good prospect for water management program for various purposes and also generated data base that can provide scientific information for site selection of water-harvesting structures and flood management activities in the basin. Land use land cover (LULC) of the basin were also prepared from Landsat data of 2005, 2010 and 2015 to assess the change in dynamic of the basin and these layers are very noteworthy for further watershed prioritization.
