21. Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge Systems into Agricultural and Extension Education Programs: A Study of the Perceptions of Extension Professionals.

Abstract

Dissemination of technologies to increase agricultural production using the conventional transfer of technology system has often failed to consider the natural environment, indigenous knowledge systems, and resource endowments around which resource-poor farmers normally operate. A sample of 96 agricultural extension professionals in 2 districts in India was surveyed to identify perceptions of agricultural extension professionals in India regarding indigenous knowledge systems. Extension personnel were grouped into two categories for analytical purposes. Assistant Directors of Agriculture and Agricultural Officers were grouped as "extension administrators"; village extension workers were termed "field-level extension workers." Respondents considered highly important the statement"extension worker's knowledge of local traditions should be given consideration." They rated low the statement "the technology transfer model is appropriate for locally diversified farmers' food production systems." With respect to statements regarding incorporating indigenous knowledge systems into agricultural and extension education, six statements received mean ratings of four and above. Extension personnel perceived three factors as essential for revitalizing the agricultural system: exploiting extension workers' knowledge of local traditions; training extension personnel on methodologies for recording indigenous knowledge systems; and strengthening the feedback mechanism from farmers to extension and then to researchers. A model to integrate indigenous knowledge systems into agricultural and extension education was developed based on study findings. 26. Creating Awareness of Deadly Cytokine Storm to Common People and A Self Case Study

Abstract

This review with case study covers the severity and hidden symptoms of cytokine storm that were missed in other articles. Most of the review studies focus on cytokine storm in a random way but this paper creates awareness to common people so that the intensity of the disease spreading can be minimized and fatality can be prevented. Cytokine storm is an umbrella term encompassing several disorders of immune disregulation. The symptoms, properties, mechanism and treatment methods for cytokine storm have been discussed along with preventive methods. Details about silent hypoxemia and its effects were also highlighted which are a major reason for not detecting this disease at early stages. This paper also describes a case of life-threatening cytokine storm caused by COVID-19 infection that was treated with clonal antibody and suppressed the cytokine release. This paper also highlights the importance of Vitamin D level in a body, which can suppress cytokines production by simultaneously boosting the innate immune system. Lesson learnt from this disease are elderly patients, especially males, with comorbidities, demonstrate increased susceptibility to poor prognosis or increased risk of severe condition or even fatality from COVID-19. Reports indicate that men appear to suffer more severe cases and die of the disease at greater rates than women, with deaths possibly up to 20 percent higher. This issue leads to future research and can work on the methods to increase the immunity of men to reach at least the immunity level of women so that fatality rate can be minimized. It has been concluded that if covid is left untreated, the cytokine starts releasing from the body and progress to extensive tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

29. Characterization of Plasma Sprayed Mn1.0Co1.9Fe0.1O4 Coating on Crofer 22 APU Interconnect for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Application.

Abstract

Atmospheric plasma sprayed Mn1.0Co1.9Fe0.1O4 (MCF) coating is regarded as one of the excellent materials in mitigating Cr-evaporation in Crofer 22 APU ferritic steel during high-temperature operation in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) conditions. In this study, MCF-coated Crofer steel has been characterized by examining the cross-section of as-sprayed coating. A network of micro-cracks and globular pores was seen in the cross-section analysis. The porosity of as-sprayed MCF coating was 10.93 ± 1.323%. XRD data revealed α-Fe as the major phase in as-received Crofer steel and CoO as the major phase in MCF coating. Micro-hardness measurements of MCF coating was 163.5 ± 1.5 HV0.1N. The measured values revealed strong metallic interlocking between the coating and substrate. Four-probe method employed on MCF coating showed a decrease in resistance as a function of temperature, indicating an increase in electrical conductivity. The spinel coating on Crofer steel was found to be beneficial for SOFC operation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Fermented food products are unique, and their consideration and consumption rates have significantly increased as they have various functional properties which include beneficial health activities to the consumers. Fermented food products contain a plethora of microbial metabolites. Microorganisms are the key factors that determine the characteristics of the food and metabolites produced during fermentation. The major microbial metabolites are enzymes, amino acids, bacteriocins, organic acids, pigments, bioactive compounds (polyphenolics, alkaloids, and antibiotics), and vitamins that enhance the sensorial and nutritional quality of fermented foods. Furthermore, the metabolites possess various probiotic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities, and also help control multiple acute and chronic diseases including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, allergies, diabetes, and gastrointestinal disorders. Therefore, the present review elaborates the microbial metabolites of various fermented food products and their functional properties, as well as their impacts on consumers' health.
