The awareness of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) contributes to the complications and fatality rates from these diseases among individuals; however, no previous study in Syria was conducted on this topic; thus, this study aims to assess Syrians' awareness of CVDs warning symptoms and risk factors. This online cross-sectional study was performed in Syria between the 1st and 25th of August 2022. The inclusion criteria for the sample were citizens of Syria over 18 who currently reside in Syria. The questionnaire included open- and closed-ended questions to assess the awareness of CVDs. A total of 1201 participants enrolled in the study with a response rate of 97.2%; more than half of the participants (61.4%) were aged 18–24. The most recognizable risk factors and warning signs when asking close-ended and open-ended questions were smoking (95.2%, 37.1%) and chest pain (87.8%, 24.8%), respectively. Overall knowledge scores for risk factors and warning signs were (61.5%). Regarding knowledge score of CVDs risk factors and warning signs, participants aged 45–54 scored higher than other age groups, and respondents with a university education level had a higher score than other educational levels (15.7 ± 0.3), (14.5 ± 0.1), respectively. Participants aged 45–54 have a higher probability of good knowledge of CVDs risk factors and warning signs than participants aged 18–24 (OR = 4.8, P value < 0.001), while participants living in the countryside were less likely to have good knowledge of CVDs risk factors and warning signs than city residents (OR = 0.6, P value < 0.05). According to our results, there is inadequate knowledge of the risk factors and warning signs of CVDs. Paradigm change in 21st century poses a challange for higher education in teaching science as inquiry. In another side, teaching science as inquiry meet some problem because of every student in the classroom was different. This research is aimed to know effectiveness of differentiated science inquiry based on research results of gene variation analysis in genetics course to increase students cognitive learning outcome. This research used pre-experimental research design on one class that consist of 26 biology students. Statistical analysis used in this study is paired sample t-test on pre-test and post-test to measure students cognitive learning outcomes. If there are significances between the pretest and posttest, data analysis was continue to N-Gain score to determine the increasing category of students cognitive learning outcome. The average pretest score was 64,3 and posttest score was 77,2. The statistical analysis result showed there was a significant difference between students cognitive learning outcome (p<0,005), meanwhile the N-Gain score between pretest and postest is 36,2 and categorized a medium criteria. That result mean although there are difference students learning outcome before and after learning by using differentiated science inquiry model based on research result of gene variation analysis, that learning is not too recommended to increase students cognitive learning outcome.

Agriculture is one of the greatest threats to biodiversity worldwide, but knowledge of how agriculture modifies animal movement, which is crucial for survival, is limited. Here, we examined the effect of landscape composition on the movements of the oriental garden lizard Calotes versicolor in agricultural landscapes of north-central Pakistan. We radio-tracked 32 individuals over 5 months to determine whether land cover type (farmland, tree patches, grassland) influences hourly movement rate, inter-day distance moved, and activity area size. We found that hourly movement rates were higher in tree patches compared to grasslands, and higher when animals moved between land cover types rather than within individual land cover types. Activity area size and movement rates became smaller as the season progressed, but they did not differ according to animal sex or body size. Habitat selection analysis showed that lizards preferred tree patches, avoided farms, roads, water bodies and human dwellings, and used grasslands in proportion to availability. When lizards used farmlands, they were found in field margins 85% of the time. Our results emphasize the importance of treed areas as reptile habitat in these highly modified agricultural lands. Agricultural intensification that reduces the availability of tree patches and field margins will likely reduce the extent to which lizards can use the landscape by removing preferred habitat. Maintaining tree cover and small fields with field margins should promote the coexistence of wildlife conservation and food production in agricultural landscapes.

Paradigma pendidikan tinggi yang berubah di abad 21 menimbulkan tantangan bagi para dosen dalam membelajarkan sains dan melatih mahasiswanya untuk memiliki keterampilan berpikir. Pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia merespon hal tersebut dengan mengatur standar lulusan perguruan tinggi dalam KKNI (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia). Lulusan tingkat sarjana (S1) dalam KKNI menempati level 6. Pada level tersebut lulusan sarjana diharapkan mampu menerapkan keahliannya dengan memanfaatkan IPTEKS dalam menyelesaikan masalah serta dapat beradaptasi terhadap situasi dalam kehidupan. Lulusan sarjana juga diharapkan mampu mengambil keputusan yang tepat berdasarkan analisis data dan mampu memberikan petunjuk dalam memilih solusi secara mandiri maupun kelompok. Salah satu keterampilan berpikir yang harus dimiliki oleh mahasiswa dalam rangka mencapai kualifikasi yang diharapkan adalah keterampilan berpikir kreatif. Hasil analisis kebutuhan yang dilakukan pada mahasiswa S1 jurusan biologi menunjukkan genetika merupakan matakuliah yang sulit untuk dipelajari selain itu pengukuran keterampilan berpikir kreatif dalam penilaian masih belum dilakukan. Tes keterampilan berpikir kreatif yang diberikan pada mahasiswa menunjukkan kategori rendah yakni sebesar 45 5. Pembelajaran tatap muka yang dilakukan dalam perkuliahan genetika menggunakan model RQA (Reading Questioning dan Answering). Model tersebut dapat meningkatkan kmampuan metakognitif dan hasil belajar kognitif pada kenyataanya nilai akhir yang diperoleh mahasiswa dengan prosentase tertinggi adalah dibawah 70. Keterampilan yang dibutuhkan pada abad 21 tidak hanya keterampilan kognitif/metakognitif. Permasalahan yang juga umum terjadi pada pendidikan tinggi adalah menyamakan pembelajaran kepada seluruh mahasiswa dan menganggap mahasiswa memiliki karakteristik yang sama dalam menerima pembelajaran.
