This article aims to discuss the relationship between the promotion of women’s agency and vulnerable groups with the changing trends in the orientation of social research methods towards decolonization in the strands of the feminist approach. All the world communities, especially the marginal groups who have intersectional vulnerabilities, are starting to redefine their experiences in this climate crisis. It is proven that their concrete resilience is genuine, innovative, creative, and able to preserve their lives in a sustainable manner. Our attention should be deeper towards their simple efforts to free themselves from the “oppression of global powers”. This research was conducted in two villages of the Exclusive Economic Zone (KEE) Banyuwangi, East Java, called Wringinputih and Kedunggebang. The framework used is postcolonial feminist and applies a feminist political ecology (FPE) method. Fieldwork adopts focus group discussion, field talk, and participatory observation. The doubts of marginal communities about their agency in the climate crisis is a challenge for postcolonial feminist researchers. In fact, by using a feminist postcolonial approach, the practices of forest landscape governance (FLG) clearly record the involvement of women and marginalized groups. Timber Legality Certificate is to meet the requirements of the legality of timber for the forest industry. Application of timber legality verification system allows Indonesia opened wider timber market, especially European market, through the signing of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) in September 2013. The forestry industry, timber legality certificate must fulfill in order to be able to do eskport product. Must to get the V-legal documents in any export activity forestry product timber legality certified consequences must be applied to production management system and marketing system. The research objective is to create a system of production information via barcode for small industries that already have a certificate of Timber Legality. The results showed that the ability to prepare the production and marketing of information systems to support the administration of V-legal documents in the export activities for small industries, a serious problem in meeting the document export goods. Therefore, barcode software development program to help solving the problems facing SMEs in the furniture industry and furniture administrating V-legal documents.

Stand density and species diversity are two indicators that are highly related to forest productivity. However, the effect of those variables on the productivity of community forest is rarely documented. This study evaluates the influence of stand density and species diversity on timber production and carbon stock in the community forest. The study area was located in Madiun District. A field survey was conducted in four different community forest sites, i.e. Morang, Kuwiran, Randualas, and Kare. The sampling technique was by quadrat method using a sample plot size of 25 m x 25 m. The number of sample plots used in this study was 64 units, which were evenly distributed in every site. Comparison of stand attributes among sites was examined by Kruskal-Wallis test and followed by Kruskal-Nemenyi test on the effects of stand density and species diversity on timber production and carbon stock were assessed separately for each parameter using the generalized least square regression test. Setiahadi R. 2021. Comparison of individual tree aboveground biomass estimation in community forests using allometric equation and expansion factor in Magetan, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 3899-3909. The use of allometric equation and biomass expansion factor can facilitate more efficient tree biomass estimation. This study evaluates the accuracy of the allometric equation and expansion factor for quantifying the individual tree aboveground biomass in community forest tree species. Destructive sampling n on 120 trees from four different species: Falcataria moluccana, Melia azedarach, Swietenia macrophylla, and Tectona grandis. For each tree sample, aboveground biomass measured at every tree component, i.e., stem, branches, and leaves. The allometric equation developed using regression analysis with several predictor variables, such as diameter at breast height (D), squared diameter at breast height combined with tree height (D2H), and D and H separately. On another side, the biomass expansion factor was calculated based on the total aboveground biomass and stem biomass ratio. The results found the highest mean aboveground biomass for all species are M. azedarach (326.36±88.40 kg tree-1), S. macrophylla (244.47±98.73 kg tree-1), T. grandis (173.31±80.97 kg tree-1), and F. moluccana (56.56±23.10 kg tree-1). The most significant average biomass expansion factor observed in M. azedarach (1.78±0.03), adhered by T. grandis (1.66±0.09), S. macrophylla (1.61±0.04), and F. moluccana (1.59±0.06). The equation ln? = lna + b x ln (D) was best for estimating aboveground biomass in each tree component and a total of four species with an accuracy of more than 90%.

Wirabuana PYAP, Setiahadi R, Sadono R, Lukito M, Martono DS, Matatula J. 2020. Allometric equations for estimating biomass of community forest tree species in Madiun, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 4291-4300. The capability of community forests for offsetting carbon emissions highly depends on their biomass production. Unfortunately, the measurement of tree biomass in community forests using a destructive method is expensive and time-consuming. It is also almost impossible to conduct this method for all trees in the observation area. Therefore, the development of allometric equations is essential to support tree biomass estimation in community forests. This study was designed to construct specific models for predicting individual tree biomass in community forests, located in Madiun, Indonesia. We destructively sampled approximately 120 trees from four different species (30 trees for each species), i.e., Falcataria moluccana, Melia azedarach, Swietenia macrophylla, and Tectona grandis. For every tree sample, the measurement of biomass was conducted in each tree’s component, namely roots, stem, branches, and leaves. The allometric equations were developed with regression analysis using predictor variables, like diameter at breast height (D), squared diameter at breast height combined with tree height (D2H), as well as D and H separately. Results found that for four species, the mean biomass in the stem was 50.3%, followed by branches 25.4%, roots 15.9%, and leaves 8.3%. The best equation for estimating biomass in every component and total of four species was different. However, our study showed that the equation lnŶ = -3.037 + 1.430 lnD + 1.684 was reliable to estimate total individual tree biomass of four species in the surveyed area since this model had accuracy of 90.8%. Referring to these findings, we recommended the utilization of an allometric equation as an alternative method for facilitating more efficient biomass measurement in the community forests.

The Europe Union (E.U.) has agreed to grant the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) license to Indonesia as the first country in the world to receive it. FLEGT VPA (Voluntary Partnership Agreement) is a bilateral agreement between the European Union (E.U.) and wood exporting countries, to improve forest governance sector and ensure that timber and wood products imported into the E.U. are produced by the laws and regulation of partner countries. The Indonesian government has obliged to implement Article 12 relating to social safeguards. Indonesia has to periodically monitor to see the extent to which the VPA has an environmental and social impact that affect the lives and welfare of vulnerable and marginalised groups. The purpose of this study is to analyse how the effect of implementation of the Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK) as part of VPA in the small and medium forestry industry sector. Methodology survey with focus group discussions, structured interviews, and semistructured interviews to find out the response and opinion of SME’s owner and employee addressed the effect of SVLK in East Java and Central Java, Indonesia. The theory of change (ToC) was used to consider the implications of SVLK implementation on the sustainable livelihood of small and medium enterprises (SME’s). The results of this study showed that SVLK had a more significant impact on livelihoods, as follows. First, the vulnerable and marginalised groups need to be supported by stakeholders to encourage readiness in faces of SVLK impact. Second, SVLK is susceptible to the effects and at risk of losing livelihoods for women and disabled groups in a short time. This group includes vulnerable groups of aspects of adaptability and sensitivity to the effect. Third, SME’s worker groups who do not have a labour organisation are sensitive to the impact on the workplace company. This group is classified as a group that is quite vulnerable if the effect lasts long enough and on a large scale of impact.

Gunungkidul District has an area of 485.36 km2, which is a karst area that is included in the Gunung Sewu geopark. The uniqueness of mount karst is mainly in the abundance of carbon stocks in the karst. The karst area’s location has underground river flows, shallow soil solum, and high levels of drought. The objectives were to create actionable strategies for climate change mitigation to reduce the risk of damage to karst areas. The mitigation action strategy aims to reduce the carbon emissions rate from various sources and increase the Karts area’s absorption rate, a community forest area. The methodology uses qualitative research comparing baseline carbon data based on the allometric model. Data collection carried out using the FGD (Focus Group Discussion) method. The results showed that community forests’ average carbon stock was still below the lowest standard of carbon stock’s feasibility in the woods. This situation does not guarantee optimal carbon storage sustainability due to the phenomenon of land-use change and need-cutting. Therefore, the mitigation action strategy needed is to encourage local policies at both the village and district levels in climate change mitigation efforts. This policy will form the basis for mainstreaming climate change mitigation as part of the government’s widely supported work.

Sandalwood, one of the most economic-endangered species, was the origin to the south-eastern islands of Indonesia, but is recently existed as new landraces in several community forests in Gunung Sewu Geopark, Indonesia. All of landraces consisted of three floral variants (YBF, refers to “yellow big flower”; RBF, “red big flower”; and RSF, “red small flower”, respectively). Our previous findings reported differences on floral structures among variants. In this study we further analyzed these variants differences and its consequence on pollination events, among four landraces represented each geographical zone in Gunung Sewu Geopark, in the 2016 flowering periods. The flowering traits of each variant and landrace were measured. Floral visitors diversity, visitation rate and pollination behaviour were observed in each of population and floral variants. Results showed that flower abundance, visitor diversity and visitor abundance varied with sites but were similar among floral variants. Flowers abundance was strongly correlated to the pollinator visitation rate. Visitors diversity varied with sites due to the differences on flower abundance, environmental condition and altitude. The cooler and wetter site was visited more by Dipterans and Hymenopterans. The warmer, drier and lower sites were visited more by Lepidopterans and Dipterans. Sites with fewer flowers received less visitor diversity and abundance. Visitors preference to a given floral variant might be attributed to the differences on floral structures, sizes and colors. Lepidopterans belong to the moth groups (Arctiidae, Hesperiidae and Noctuiidae) preferred to visit the yellow flowers of YBF variant, while those belong to the butterflies groups (Papillionidae, Nymphalidae and Pieridae) preferred the red flowers of RBF and RSF. All six families of Hymenopterans preferred to visit the red flowers with bigger size, RBF. In contrast, all four families of Coleopterans, as well as the four families of Hemipterans, preferred the yellow flowers of YBF. All four families of Dipterans made similar visits to both RBF and YBF which have bigger flowers, while the visitation was less in RSF.

In the era of globalization, the role of the agricultural sector in an area faced with the demand for increased productivity and efficiency in order to be competitive in the domestic and international markets. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of the agricultural sector in improving regional competitiveness. The method used is a Klassen Typology approach. Klassen Typology Approach used to identify the position of agriculture sector of Madiun District in increasing the competitiveness of the region by considering the economic sector of Jawa Timur province as the reference area. The results of the research expected to be recommendations for the formulation of policies undertaken by the local government. The role of the agricultural sector in the context of strengthening regional competitiveness expected to increase locally-generated revenue (PAD) as well as to support and encourage the development of other sectors, and increase regional and national economic growth as to increase income per capita society.

Deforestation and degraded forest land will continue to affect climate patterns in various places and trigger an increase in the frequency and intensity of weather events and extreme climate. The impacts felt by the community are quite a lot both in the social, economic, infrastructure, fishery, agriculture, health, tourism sectors, even in the areas of defence and security. Various anticipatory steps need to do by raising awareness of the community and relevant stakeholders to this issue of climate change. One of the actions of climate change adaptation in the capacity building is to encourage the emergence of national and local policies that address the concerns and readiness mitigation to cope with the impacts of climate change on various fronts, particularly in agriculture and food security. This study aims to encourage the preparation of the policy masterplan of agroforestry development as an effort to mitigate climate change in Madiun, East Java, Indonesia. With a Diagnostic and Design approach (D&D), a policy recommendation for agroforestry development in the medium and long-term developed. The result of a D&D approach by the available resource potential, the agroforestry model that is feasible to be developed is agro-silviculture and agro-silvopastoral.

The role of CSR is crucial to building a company’s brand strategy, especially companies that exploit natural resources. Branding is crucial for products and services sold in big consumer markets. It’s also important because it helps companies stand out from the competition. The brand strategy brings competitive positioning to life and works position as specific “something” in the mind of customers. The purpose of this paper is to describe the nature and trend of nonfinancial disclosure corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in Indonesia. The sample of the study consist of annual report of the mining companies listed at Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2015-2017. CSR indexes and financial performance measures were computed for content analysis. This research result shows that 39 mining companies in Indonesia globally do CSR on their companies, but not all of the company’s CSR activities are disclosed in the nonfinancial report. The disclosure level of CRS in mining company is many as 0,3303. This happens because the company reporting on social responsibility and also identify the advantages they have gained through disclosing their social responsibility activities to stakeholders. Which complete information is the foundation for stakeholders to determine the decisions related to the company. The conclusion of the analysis of mining company CSR report disclosed in the annual report of the company can conclude that there are three reasons why a company conducts CSR, among others: The company complies with national policies; Minimizing social, economic, political and environmental impacts; and Value Creation.

Political and social changes since Indonesian’s reformation placed Perhutani in an uneasy position. It led to massive deforestation and degradation in state forests land in Java untill now. These acts, perpetrated by miss-management and decrease in the quality of forests resource, were driven by a complicated set of issues. Community Based Forest Management (CBFM known as PHBM) was introduced by Indonesian Forest Enterprises (Perhutani) during a period of political and social transition in Indonesia, to address increasing rate of forest degradation in Java. The debates between proponents and opponents of the scheme within Perhutani consumed much of the agency’s time and energy otherwise invested into PHBM implementation on the field. As a result, PHBM stalled as it was not integrated effectively into the organization of forestry resources management planning. It is due to the gaps in perceptions between community and Perhutani. Additionally, PHBM not managed according to the Collaborative Forest Management principles, and the dominant roles of Perhutani in the implementation of PHBM steer it towards Co-optation Forest Management.
