Growth of the small and medium-size enterprise (SME) sector is traditionally an important driver of overall economic growth, particularly in emerging economies. SME growth is enhanced by access to finance (financial inclusion). In this study, we show that efficient working capital management has a positive influence on performance that is independent of the effect of financial inclusion. Our results remain robust to alternative measurements and estimations, and may be useful to national policy-makers in developing strategies for SMEs' greater access to finance and introducing ways of improving financial management education and training for SME managers.

Digital currency is primarily designed on problems that are computationally hard to solve using traditional computing techniques. However, these problems are now vulnerable due to the computational power of quantum computing. For the postquantum computing era, there is an immense need to reinvent the existing digital security measures. Problems that are computationally hard for any quantum computation will be a possible solution to that. This research summarizes the current security measures and how the new way of solving hard problems will trigger the future protection of the existing digital currency from the future quantum threat.

Mobile network is evolving from a communication-only network towards one with joint communication and radar/radio sensing (JCAS) capabilities, that we call perceptive mobile network (PMN). Radio sensing here refers to information retrieval from received mobile signals for objects of interest in the environment surrounding the radio transceivers, and it may go beyond the functions of localization, tracking, and object recognition of traditional radar. In PMNs, JCAS integrates sensing into communications, sharing a majority of system modules and the same transmitted signals. The PMN is expected to provide a ubiquitous radio sensing platform and enable a vast number of novel smart applications, whilst providing non-compromised communications. In this paper, we present a broad picture of the motivation, methodologies, challenges, and research opportunities of realizing PMN, by providing a comprehensive survey for systems and technologies developed mainly in the last ten years. Beginning by reviewing the work on coexisting communication and radar systems, we highlight their limits on addressing the interference problem, and then introduce the JCAS technology. We then set up JCAS in the mobile network context and envisage its potential applications. We continue to provide a brief review of three types of JCAS systems, with particular attention to their differences in design philosophy. We then introduce a framework of PMN, including the system platform and infrastructure, three types of sensing operations, and signals usable for sensing. Subsequently, we discuss required system modifications to enable sensing on current communication-only infrastructure. Within the context of PMN, we review stimulating research problems and potential solutions, organized under nine topics: performance bounds, waveform optimization, antenna array design, clutter suppression, sensing parameter estimation, resolution of sensing ambiguity, pattern analysis, networked sensing under cellular to

Motivated by legislation mandating CSR expenditure to improve social equality and economic development in India, we examine the association of CSR expenditure and financial inclusion with the performance of banking firms in the period after introduction of the legislation. We study whether mandated CSR expenditure and/or financial inclusion measures are associated with better financial performance, using both accounting and stock market measures of performance, for Indian banks during 2015–2017. Our results demonstrate that level of CSR expenditure and degree of financial inclusion is not associated with banks’ financial performance when performance is measured in accounting terms. However, a significant negative association is found when performance is measured by stock market return. These results suggest that the current design of the legislation is unlikely to achieve its purpose. This is the first study to present clear evidence on the associations of mandatory CSR spending and firm-level financial inclusion with accounting-based and market-based bank performance.

We examined variation in the number and demographic composition of electrocuted Saker Falcons (Falco cherrug) in Mongolia. We found 1721 electrocuted Saker Falcons during our surveys of multiple power lines in 2013-2015 and 2018. At a single power line surveyed over a 16-mo period in 2013-2014, the lowest electrocution rates occurred from December to March, with a rise in April coinciding with the return of migrant juveniles from their wintering areas. Electrocution rates rose sharply during juvenile post-fledging dispersal, and then declined in October as migrants departed. Monthly changes in electrocution rate and age profile reflected predicted variation in abundance and age structure of the local Saker Falcon population. We found that 88% of electrocuted Saker Falcons were juveniles, mostly killed during their first calendar year. The sex ratio of electrocuted juveniles fledged in the 2013 cohort (hatch-year birds) was significantly female-biased, in contrast to the equal sex ratio of the 2012 juvenile cohort (second calendar-year birds) killed in the same year (2013). Sex ratio of the 2013 juvenile cohort did not differ significantly from parity at other power lines across Mongolia, indicating that sex ratio of electrocuted juveniles can vary in time and space. The sex of electrocuted adults, predominantly males, and an age profile of breeding Saker Falcons that includes younger females suggests a possible male-biased sex ratio among adult Saker Falcons in Mongolia. Given that large numbers of endangered Saker Falcons are electrocuted annually in Mongolia, our study suggests electrocution may be an important driver of demographic trends that can potentially result in population declines.
