Background: Cholelithiasis is one of the most common surgical problems throughout the world. Earlier, the prevailing treatment of symptomatic Cholelithiasis was an open cholecystectomy which is almost replaced by laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Although occasionaly switch to open cholecystectomy may require during the procedure which is known as conversion in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Many factors contribute to the conversion which is not a sign of surgeon's failure rather is a sign of surgeon's good surgical judgment Our objectives are to find out the factors which are associated with conversion and thus reduce conversion rate, preoperative preparation and counseling the patient for conversion in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: This was a hospital based retrospective study, carried out in department of hepatobiliary & pancreatic surgery department, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka from January 2008 to December 2009. A total no of SO cases were included in our study which were converted to open cholecystectomy. Cases were collected from the hospital medical records which were retrieved and analyzed. Result: A total no of768 laparoscopic cholecystectomies were attempted during the study period. Out of which SO cases were converted to open cholecystectomy. Thus the conversion rate was 6.5%. Among these the reasons for conversion in both genders were dense adhesion in 22 (2.86%), aberrant anatomy in 10 (1.3%), empyema gall bladder in 4 (0.52%), per operative findings of choledocholithiasis in 3 (0.39%), suspicion of common bile duct injury in 3 (0.39%), others causes of conversion included uncontrolled bleeding 3 (0.39%), thick fibrosed gall bladder 2 (0.26%), accidental bowel injury 2 (0.26%), Type-I choledochal cyst 1 (0.13%) cases. Conclusion: various factors are related to conversion in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. But due to improvement of learning curve, good quality operative equipment, now a day's laparoscopic cholecystectomy is safe method of treatment for gall stone diseases with very low conversion rate. Millions of people all over the world are affected by disability arising out of accident, disease, or congenital. This is a crucial health issue for mankind and needs structured treatment and rehabilitation plans. Prevalence and management capacity of disability have wide cross-cultural and geographical variations. Despite the lack of specific data there are reasons to believe that third-world countries have more disabilities and fewer resources and capacity for rehabilitation. So, there is a strong relationship between poverty and disability. Marginalized populations, disadvantaged or at-risk populations such as women, older people, and people who are poor are inappropriately affected by disability. Children from poverty-stricken families, indigenous populations, and ethnic minority groups are significantly at higher risk of experiencing disability. There is a higher prevalence of disability in lower-income countries than in higher-income countries. Poor people from lowerincome countries are usually involved in high-risk jobs which make them vulnerable to injury and disability. Because of exaggerated life stress, poor health status, and poor living conditions due to poverty, people at low resource outset are more vulnerable to disease and disability. Of inadequate support from affluent persons as well as from the government, they spend their last savings to meet the treatment costs and get poorer. They are also common victims of road traffic accidents when they travel on risky roads and vehicles. There are many other shreds of evidence for a link between disability and poverty in low and middle-income countries and there is an urgent need for further research and policy action to break the cycle. The direct detection of dark matter is a key problem in astroparticle physics that generally requires the use of deep-underground laboratories for a low-background environment where the rare signals from dark matter interactions can be observed. This work reports on the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory – currently under construction and the first such laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere – and the associated research program. A particular focus will be given to ANU’s contribution to SABRE, a NaI:Tl dark matter, direct detection experiment that aims to confirm or refute the long-standing DAMA result. Preliminary measurements of the NaI:Tl quenching factor and characterisation of the SABRE liquid scintillator veto are reported.

Traditionally women are mostly engaged in household-based income generating activities. Post-harvest processing of vegetables has recently gained much attention due to its value addition utilities. Therefore, in this study, we tried to understand women farmers' attitudes towards and involvement in, post-harvest processing of vegetables. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a pre-tested questionnaire from 212 respondents in Dhaka district of Bangladesh. The data were interpreted with descriptive statistics, multivariate regression analysis and a logit model. About 71% of rural women had a favorable attitude towards post-harvest processing; 43% were involved in the postharvest processing of vegetables. Women's attitude towards post-harvest processing of vegetables was influenced by age, education, household size, and their frequency of traveling outside of their social system. Their involvement in postharvest processing of vegetables was affected by education, group membership, media contact and time spent in home management. 'Gender disparity in earnings' was the most severe barrier to expanding women's involvement in vegetable processing, followed by 'lack of land ownership status', 'spouse dominance' and 'social norms and tradition'. Motivating women in income-generating activities and introducing advanced yet low-cost and less-labour-intensive technologies would enable them to participate in the post-harvest processing of vegetables.
