Salvia guaranitica is considered one of the most significant medicinal and aromatic herbs in terms of nutritional and medical benefits due to its wealth of important active components. Among these compounds, terpenoids are the most prominent and abundant, particularly monoterpenes (C10), sesquiterpenes (C15), and diterpenes (C20). They are biologically advantageous to plants and perform a multitude of functions. The current study aimed to clone the S. guaranitica gene that encodes for geranyllinalool synthases (SgGES, EC: 4.2.3.144), with consideration for these features. The open reading frame of the 867-amino-acid protein encoded by SgGES consists of 2.721 base pairs. In addition, the SgGES protein has five domains that belong to the terpene synthase family, which are related to the terpene and terpenoid synthase domains. We manipulated and overexpressed the SgGES gene in Nicotiana tabacum to explore its function. When compared to the GUS control, the transgenic N. tabacum plants displayed an increase in leaf production and diameter when compared with the wild-type plants. Finally, analysis of transgenic plants using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed that SgGES is responsible for producing various terpene species, especially diterpenes.

Abstract Physical and chemical changes in the natural of water may affect biological organisms. In this study, we highlight the effect of magnetized-water and microwave-water on rats’ liver tissues. Three groups of albino rats were separated. The first, rats were administered tap-water. The second, rats were administered magnetized-water. The third, rats were administered microwave-water. After two months, the results revealed a significant increase in liver functioning enzymes’ levels and bilirubin in rats administered microwave-water, compared to tap- and magnetic-water. In relation to oxidative stress, there was a significant increase and decrease in oxidative and antioxidant parameters respectively in liver tissues of rat's administrated microwave-water. At the molecular level, there was a significant down-regulation in Metallothionein, CYP genes in magnetic-water compared to tap-water. Rats administered microwave-water have shown a significant down-regulation in GST, Metallothionein and CYP genes’ expression, however, Amylase and HDAC3 genes were significantly up-regulated, compared to the other groups. The intake of microwave-water resulted in notable histopathological changes in liver tissues. Rats administered magnetic-water showed no clear changes in their liver tissues. In summary, microwave-water induced stress and epigenetic effects compared with magnetic-water and tap-water. Also, magnetic-water produced from the higher magnetic power had no side effect on liver tissues.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of Arbuscular mycorrhiza fungus (AMF) inoculation, foliar application of zinc oxide and selenium nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs and Se-NPs), and their combined interactions on the growth and productivity of chili pepper under cold-stress conditions. Two field experiments were successfully conducted during the winter seasons of 2021 and 2022 in an experimental field at the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. The results showed that, under cold stress, the combination of AMF inoculation and ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs as a foliar spray increased the average fruit weight by 92.4% and 98.7%, and the number of fruits by 34.6% and 54.8 compared to control treatment in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively. Additionally, the combination of AMF and a mixture of nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs) significantly increased the total marketable yield by 95.8% and 94.7% compared to the control, which recorded values of 2.4 and 1.9 kg m−2 in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively. Furthermore, the combination of AMF and a mixture of nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs) showed the highest total content of ascorbic acid and capsaicin in chili fruits compared to the other treatments. The combination of AMF and a mixture of nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs) stimulated the accumulation of peroxidase (POD) and nitrogen glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) while decreasing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) contents. SDS analysis revealed that the application of ZnO-NPs, Se-NPs, AMF + ZnO-NPs, and AMF + ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs induced the emergence of new protein bands and reconstitution of those damaged by cold stress. Regarding histological structure, the combination of AMF inoculation and ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs as a foliar spray showed an enhancement in the thickness of grana thylakoids and increased the number of chloroplasts. Intriguingly, the findings showed that AMF and a mixture of nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs + Se-NPs) could offer guidance for increasing plant development and productivity under cold-stress conditions.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) is a master regulator of angiogenesis, with higher levels in infantile hemangioma (IH). The effects of propranolol on IH are not fully understood and may involve vasoconstriction, angiogenesis inhibition, and apoptosis induction. Therefore, we examined the effects of propranolol therapy on levels of VEGF-A in patients with IH in the proliferative phase and compared the VEGF-A levels to those in untreated patients in the involuting or involuted phases, as well as studied the consistency between the clinical and VEGF responses in patients receiving treatment. In a prospective study, we compared 24 patients with IH in the proliferative phase to 9 patients with IH in the involuting or involuted phase, assessing clinical responses to therapy and changes in VEGF-A levels after 3 months. The median VEGF level before treatment was 275 pg/ml; however, after 3 months, the level significantly decreased to 100 pg/ml (P = 0.007). Median VEGF was significantly higher in patients in the proliferative phase after 3 months of treatment (100 pg/ml) as compared to those in the involuting phase (50 pg/ml). We found no significant correlation between VEGF level and IH size reduction. Propranolol therapy induced a significant decline in VEGF levels at the 3-month evaluation in patients in the proliferative phase; however, this did not reach the levels of IH in the involuting phase. VEGF response was not translated to a clinical response in some patients with IH. These results put in uncertainty the clinical benefit of targeting VEGF pathway in IH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this investigation is to evaluate impacts of some chemical and biological treatments on the chemical composition, cell wall constituents and in situ degradability of olive cake (OC). OC was treated by water (control, T1), 8% molasses (T2), 7% urea (T3), 8% molasses + 7% urea (T4), 8% molasses + 1.5% sodium hydroxide (T5), 8% molasses + 3% sodium hydroxide (T6), 8% molasses + 6% lime (T7), 8% molasses + 8% lime (T8), 8% molasses + 10% lime (T9), 8% molasses + 0.25% Cata pro® (T10), 8% molasses + 0.5% Cata pro® (T11) and 8% molasses + 1% Cata pro® (T12). The initial moisture in all treatments was adjusted at 65%. The obtained results revealed that the chemical and biological treatments of OC for 30 days had positive advances on the chemical composition of OC, where the crude protein values increased, while the crude fiber contents decreased. The best improvements were occurred by adding molasses with lime (T9) or with 1% Cata pro® (T12). Also, the neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL) and total tannins decreased with all treatments. T9 recorded the least content of cellulose, however the lowest percentage of total tannins was observed with T6. Among the biological treatments of OC, the maximum reduction in cellulose content accompanied by the minimum concentration of total tannins was detected with T12. All treatments led to improve crude protein, disappearance of NDF, ADF and ADL after 24 and 48 hours of the in situ degradability of OC. The T9 and T12 were the most effective treatments. Conclusively, the best improvement of chemical composition, cell wall constituents and in situ degradability of OC were occurred by 8% molasses + 10% lime (T9), followed by 8% molasses + 1% Cata pro® (T12). ABSTRACT: In this study, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has been modified through click grafting of chitosan onto its surface. This goal has been achieved using three consecutive steps involving amination, activation, and grafting. Both the amination and chitosan grafting steps were confirmed based on the determination of nitrogen content. The chemical structure of the modified PVC membranes was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy and thermal analysis, and the morphological changes were monitored by scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the induced physicochemical characteristics were investigated by analyzing the water uptake, mechanical properties, surface roughness, and contact angle. Finally, an evaluation of blood compatibility and protein adsorption characteristics for the chitosan‐g‐PVC membranes is presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research is studying about one of the most important skills in the Arabic language that is hoped to be acquired by Malaysian students, either in secondary or university level. The aim of teaching essay writing at these two stages is to enable students to express a topic in writing in a good manner and in an organized manner of various kinds according to the correct rules of the Arabic language. It is noticeable that non-Arabic speaking students, especially Malaysian students, despite their mastery of grammatical and morphological rules, still fall into stylistic errors resulting from their lack of understanding of the ‘ibarāt al rābitah (conjunctive phrases), their connotations and their functions in structural writing. Based on all of the foregoing, this research deals with theories related to the concept of stylistic errors and the concept of style and its elements, especially in the field of teaching Arabic as a second language. The research followed the descriptive and analytical method and was limited to analysing the ‘ibarāt al rābitah (conjunctive phrases) in the modern Arabic language and analysing their meanings, functions, and uses in structural writing. The research has reached many results, the most important of which is ‘ibarāt al rābitah (conjunctive phrases) as one of the most important elements of the Arabic language style that is hoped to be provided to Malaysian students, especially in the secondary and university degree stage, to control the stylistically sound structural writing. The research also stated some recommendations to facilitate the teaching and application of ‘ibarāt al rābitah (conjunctive phrases) at the secondary and university levels.

The current study aimed to evaluate the role of ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) in assessing post-operative pseudophakic glaucoma.Patients and Methods: This is a case series, prospective, observational and analytical study. It included 29 eyes of 29 patients with post-operative pseudophakic glaucoma. The patients were evaluated by medical history, detailed ophthalmologic examination and UBM.Results: UBM examination has unmasked different causes of pseudophakic glaucoma. The detected causes were classified into 3 main groups, including intraocular lens (IOL)-related causes, lens remnants and intra-ocular inflammation. Haptic-related causes were present in 9 eyes, while 6 eyes had decentered or tilted IOLs. Soemmering’s ring was the main cause in 3 eyes while in one eye the cause was lens particle in the anterior chamber (AC). Silicone oil in AC with seclusio pupillae was the main cause in one eye. Peripheral anterior synechiae were detected in 8 eyes while, posterior synechiae were evident in 7 eyes. Uveitis induced by anterior chamber IOL (ACIOL) was found in 3 eyes and one eye had peripheral anterior synechiae due to neovascular glaucoma.Conclusion: UBM is a helpful diagnostic tool to evaluate causes of pseudophakic glaucoma through adequate visualization of different angle structures.Keywords: ultrasound biomicroscopy, UBM, pseudophakic glaucoma, hyphaema, neovascularization

The purpose is to explore the prediction of epidemiological characteristics of vascular cognitive impairment based on susceptible infectious recovered and immune hosts (SIR) mathematical model and the effect of brain rehabilitation health measurement system on cognitive function of patients. SIR mathematical model was used to predict the epidemiological characteristics of vascular cognitive impairment (VCIND). Then, 60 patients with non dementia vascular cognitive impairment were randomly divided into training group and control group. Both groups were given conventional drug therapy and traditional rehabilitation training. The training group increased brain rehabilitation on this basis. Health measurement system cognitive training, 40 min/time, once a day, 5 times a week for a total of 4 weeks. A simple intelligent mental scale (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA), Barthel Index (BI), and myoelectric evoked potentiometer were used for cognitive function, daily life activity (ADL) ability, and P300 of two groups of patients. assessment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of brain rehabilitation health care measurement system-assisted cognitive training on cognitive function and event-related potential (ERP) P300 in patients with VCIND. The study found that the brain rehabilitation health care measurement system assisted cognitive training can effectively improve the cognitive function of patients with VCIND and their daily activities.

Background: sepsis, a syndrome of physiologic, pathologic, and biochemical abnormalities induced by infection, is a major public health concern; There is overlap between clinical and laboratory criteria induced by sepsis and hemophagocytosis. Aim of the Work: to compare HLH by its known criteria among patients with neonatal sepsis admitted to NICU and childhood sepsis admitted to PICU and compare the outcome of patients with and without HLH criteria. Patients and Methods: a cross-sectional study including 50 neonates and children with severe sepsis and/or septic shock was performed in Ain Shams University, Pediatric Hospital; 25 of patients were admitted to neonatal ICU and 25 to pediatric ICU. Clinical and laboratory data together with criteria for hemaophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis were analysed and studied in relation to patients outcome. Results: the young age of our enrolled patients ranging from neonatal to pediatric age with mean age of 30 days in neonatal group and 1.5 years in pediatric group, with 4% fulfilled 5 criteria, 2% fulfilled 4 criteria, 18% fulfilled 3 criteria. All patients who fulfilled 3 or more criteria for HLH died, there was no difference in mortality rate or age groups neonates versus pediatrics according to HLH criteria. Conclusion: some criteria of HLH were positive among patients with sepsis with no difference between pediatric and neonatal group. However, patients fulfilling 5 criteria of HLH were 4% in our study with no difference in mortality between those with 5 criteria positive and negative ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objective: Insulin resistance is a primary feature of type 2 diabetes. This study compared the effects of curcumin and its nanoformulation on insulin resistance, fasting blood sugar, liver function, GLUT4, lipid profile, and oxidative stress in the liver and pancreas in a diabetic model., Methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups: a control group, a diabetic group, a diabetic group treated with metformin (40 mg/kg), a diabetic group treated with curcumin (100 mg/kg), and a diabetic group treated with curcumin NPs (100 mg/kg). Diabetes was induced by injecting dexamethasone daily for 14 days. Treatment with curcumin and curcumin NPs was administered by gavage for 14 days. Body weight and fasting blood sugar levels were measured on days 1, 14, and 28., Results: The metformin, curcumin, and curcumin NPs groups showed significantly greater body weight gain than the untreated diabetic group (P < 0.001). In diabetic rats treated with curcumin and curcumin NPs, insulin resistance decreased by approximately 40 %, while fasting blood sugar levels dropped by 35-40 % (P < 0.001). The levels of liver enzymes (AST, ALT), cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and the oxidative stress marker MDA in liver and pancreatic tissues were reduced by 30-50 %. Additionally, beneficial markers such as albumin, HDL, antioxidants (GSH, SOD), and GLUT4 levels were increased by 25-45 % (P < 0.001). Nano-curcumin consistently showed greater improvements than curcumin, especially in reducing oxidative stress and supporting liver and pancreatic health., Conclusion: This study demonstrates that curcumin NPs has a superior effect on reducing oxidative stress and improving metabolic parameters in diabetes compared to curcumin. by enhancing the bioavailability and stability of curcumin, the nanoformulation showed stronger therapeutic potential for managing high blood sugar, cholesterol issues, and liver health, positioning curcumin NPs as a promising alternative to conventional treatments for diabetes and its complications., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (© 2024 The Authors. Primary intraosseous vascular malformation (VMPI, #606893) is an ultra-rare disorder caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in ELMO2. To date, only six families with pathogenic ELMO2 variants causing a VMPI phenotype have been described. VMPI is characterized by vascular malformations that compress the facial bones, often leading to life-threatening complications, such as massive bleeding and intracranial herniation. In VMPI, vascular malformations are progressive and there is no causal therapy available. We report on four unreported individuals with classical VMPI harbouring biallelic truncating variants in ELMO2, including a novel homozygous 25 bp duplication c.579&#95;603dup; p.(Leu202Profs*47), detected by whole-exome sequencing. We present extensive clinical follow-up data, including a close monitoring of an individual from prenatal diagnosis onwards. Using computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging angiography, we described the radiological characteristics of vascular malformations with fast-flow properties in the affected individuals. Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive histopathological evaluation of samples from one individual. This analysis revealed not only the similar morphological features described previously but also some atypical findings, such as increased de novo bone formation. Furthermore, we report for the first time the use of propranolol and sirolimus in VMPI. While we noted a reduction of bleeding episodes in one individual, no significant clinical improvement was observed overall in the other individuals treated with sirolimus. Moreover, sirolimus led to severe infectious complications with abscess formation in two individuals. Conversely, propranolol was relatively well tolerated, although it did not result in any notable clinical outcomes. Introduction: Methidathion (MD) is commonly used in agriculture and has adverse effects on reproduction. Chrysin (CHR) has several advantageous properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antioxidant properties. The purpose of the current investigation was to assess CHR's therapeutic efficacy in reducing ovarian toxicity brought on by MD. Methods: Twenty-four female rats were divided into four groups of six animals each. Group 1 served as a control, while group 2 rats received MD (5 mg/kg). Rats in Group 3 received CHR at a dose of 50 mg/kg. Rats in group 4 received treatment with CHR after MD intoxication. Results and Discussion: Our research revealed that MD significantly ( p < 0.001) increased the levels of MDA, caspase-3, FSH, LH, CA-125, and TNF-α but significantly ( p < 0.001) decreased the levels of SOD, GSH, E2, and progesterone when compared to the control and CHR groups. After receiving CHR therapy, damage induced by MD was significantly ( p < 0.001) repaired. Halide perovskites are the most promising options for extremely efficient solar absorbers in the field of photovoltaic (PV) technology because of their remarkable optical qualities, increased efficiency, lightweight design, and affordability. This work examines the analysis of a dual-absorber solar device that uses Sr 3 SbI 3 as the bottom absorber layer and Sr 3 PI 3 as the top absorber layer of an inorganic perovskite through the SCAPS-1D platform. The device architecture includes ZnSe as the electron transport layer (ETL), while the active layer consists of Sr 3 PI 3 and Sr 3 SbI 3 with precise bandgap values. The bandgap value of Sr 3 SbI 3 is 1.307 eV and Sr 3 PI 3 is 1.258 eV. By employing double-graded materials of Sr 3 PI 3 /Sr 3 SbI 3 , the study achieves an optimized efficiency of up to 34.13% with a V OC of 1.09 V, FF of 87.29%, and J SC of 35.61 mA cm -2 . The simulation explores the influence of absorber layer thickness, doping level, and defect density on electrical properties like efficiency, short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, and fill factor. It also examines variations in temperature and assesses series and shunt resistances in addition to electrical factors. Background: Thrombocytopenia is a prevalent presentation in childhood with a broad spectrum of etiologies, associated findings, and clinical outcomes. Establishing the cause of thrombocytopenia and its proper management have obvious clinical repercussions but may be challenging. This article provides an adaptation of the high-quality Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) of pediatric thrombocytopenia management to suit Egypt's health care context., Methods: The Adapted ADAPTE methodology was used to identify the high-quality CPGs published between 2010 and 2020. An expert panel screened, assessed and reviewed the CPGs and formulated the adapted consensus recommendations based on the best available evidence., Discussion: The final CPG document provides consensus recommendations and implementation tools on the management of isolated thrombocytopenia in children and adolescents in Egypt. There is a scarcity of evidence to support recommendations for various management protocols. In general, complete clinical assessment, full blood count, and expert analysis of the peripheral blood smear are indicated at initial diagnosis to confirm a bleeding disorder, exclude secondary causes of thrombocytopenia and choose the type of work up required. The International Society of Hemostasis and thrombosis-Bleeding assessment tool (ISTH-SCC BAT) could be used for initial screening of bleeding manifestations. The diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is based principally on the exclusion of other causes of isolated thrombocytopenia. Future research should report the outcome of this adapted guideline and include cost-analysis evaluations.

Pediatric transfusion is a complex area of medicine covering a wide age range, from neonates to young adults. Compared to adult practice, there is a relative lack of high-quality research to inform evidence-based guidelines. We aimed to adapt the pre-existing high-quality practice guidelines for the transfusion of blood components in different pediatric age groups to be available for national use by general practitioners, pediatricians, and other health care professionals. The guideline panel included 17 key leaders from different Egyptian institutions. The panel used the Adapted ADAPTE methodology. The panel prioritized the health questions and recommendations according to their importance for clinicians and patients. The procedure included searching for existing guidelines, quality appraisal, and adaptation of the recommendations to the target context of use. The guideline covered all important aspects of the indications, dosing, and administration of packed red cells, platelets, and fresh frozen plasma. It also included transfusion in special situations, e.g., chronic hemolytic anemia and aplastic anemia, management of massive blood loss, malignancies, surgery, recommendations for safe transfusion practices, and recommendations for modifications of cellular blood components. The final version of the adapted clinical practice guideline (CPG) has been made after a thorough review by an external review panel and was guided by their official recommendations and modifications. A set of implementation tools included algorithms, tables, and flow charts to aid decision-making in practice. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic altered healthcare systems globally, causing delays in care delivery and increased anxiety among patients and families. This study examined how hospital stakeholders and clinicians perceived the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children with cancer and their families., Methods: This secondary analysis examined data from a qualitative study consisting of 19 focus groups conducted in 8 languages throughout 16 countries. A codebook was developed with novel codes derived inductively from transcript review. In-depth analysis focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children with cancer and their families., Results: Eight themes describing the impact of the pandemic on patients and their families were identified and classified into three domains: contributing factors (COVID-19 Policies, Cancer Treatment Modifications, COVID-19 Symptoms, Beliefs), patient-related impacts (Quality of Care, Psychosocial impacts, Treatment Reluctance), and the central transformer (Communication). Participants described the ability of communication to transform the effect of contributing factors on patient-related impacts. The valence of impacts depended on the quality and quantity of communication among clinicians and between clinicians and patients and families., Conclusions: Communication served as the central factor impacting whether the COVID-19 pandemic positively or negatively affected children with cancer and families. These findings emphasize the key role communication plays in delivering patient-centered care and can guide future development of communication-centered interventions globally., (© 2023 The Authors.
