The safflower is an oleaginous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is used as a raw material for various purposes. These plants are popular for the quality and quantity of oil produced and, and thus, studying their genetic variability using markers is necessary for determining genetic resources to conduct breeding programs. Therefore, we evaluated the genetic variability of safflower genotypes using Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) molecular markers. The study was conducted at the State University of Mato Grosso “Carlos Alberto Reyes Maldonado”, in the Campus of Cáceres-MT. In total, 121 safflower genotypes from the Germplasm collection were evaluated using 21 SSR markers. The programs GenAlEx 6.5, GENES, and Structure were used to analyze the data. We identified 158 alleles at 21 loci among the genotypes. The expected heterozygosity (He) was high (0.551 - 0.804), but the observed heterozygosity (Ho) was low (0.000 - 0.502), and the indices of the endogamy coefficient (F) were positive in all loci and all populations, with an overall average of 0.958. The genetic differentiation (FST) values among populations were low, with an average of 0.010, which suggested a low population structure. The modified Tocher clustering and the UPGMA hierarchical clustering yielded 19 and 15 distinct groups, respectively. The genetic structure showed two populations, with few intermixes in the genome. The evaluated safflower genotypes showed genetic variability, and these genetically different variants might be used in breeding programs to obtain cultivars adapted to Brazil. RESUMO O cártamo é uma oleaginosa da família Asteraceae, cuja matéria-prima serve para diversos fins. A cultura se destaca pela qualidade e quantidade de óleo produzido, neste sentido o estudo da variabilidade genética com o uso de marcadores é uma etapa inicial na exploração dos recursos genéticos em um programa de melhoramento. Diante disso, estimou-se a variabilidade genética de genótipos de cártamo via marcadores moleculares Simple Sequence Repetition (SSR). O estudo foi conduzido na Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso “Carlos Alberto Reyes Maldonado”, Campus de Cáceres-MT, onde foram avaliados 121 genótipos de cártamo da coleção de Germoplasma, utilizando 21 marcadores SSR. Foram utilizados os programas GenAlEx 6.5, GENES e software Structure para os respectivos resultados. O número de alelos detectados entre os genótipos considerando os 21 loci foi de 158, a He pode ser considerada alta, variando de 0,551 a 0,804, já a heterozigosidade observada (Ho) foi baixa, variando de 0,000 a 0,502, e índices de coeficiente de endogamia (F) foram positivos em todos os locus e em todas as populações, possuindo uma média geral de 0,958. Os valores de medida de diferenciação genética (FST) entre as populações foram encontrados baixos em média de 0,010, sugerindo baixa estrutura populacional. O agrupamento de Tocher modificado obteve 19 grupos, e o agrupamento hierárquico de UPGMA 15 grupos distintos. A estruturação genética demostrou duas populações, com poucas intermixagem no genoma. Os genótipos de cártamo avaliados possuem variabilidade genética, sendo possível explorar esta variabilidade em um programa de melhoramento genético visando obter cultivares adaptados ao Brasil.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the genetic divergence between 164 genotypes of Manihot esculenta from the South-Central mesoregion of the State of Mato Grosso. The genotypes are from projects conducted by the Laboratory of Genetic Resources & Biotechnology of the University of the State of Mato Grosso, Cáceres-Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), and the Brazilian Public Agricultural Research Corporation - Agrosilvopastoral (EMBRAPA). The agronomic descriptors evaluated were plant height, height of first branching, branching levels, weight of the aerial part of the plant, total weight of the plant, number of roots per plant, average weight of roots per plant, yield of commercial roots, yield of non-commercial roots, number of rotten roots per plant and harvest index. For the analysis of genetic divergence, multivariate analysis based on the standardized Euclidean mean distance was employed, later performing the Hierarchical UPGMA and Tocher Optimization agglomerative methods. The degree of preservation of the genetic distances in the dendrogram was verified using the Cophenetic Correlation Coefficient. The Singh criterion was used to quantify the relative contribution of characteristics to genetic divergence. The genotypes presented genetic dissimilarity for the evaluated characteristics and based on the results of the dissimilarity matrix and groupings, it is recommended the crossings between the genotypes allocated in group II with the genotype allocated in group V, for the development of segregated populations with high genetic variability. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a divergência genética entre cultivares/ linhagens de feijão comum e indicar genitores contratantes e superiores para produzir populações segregantes com alta variabilidade. Avaliou-se 25 cultivares/linhagens de feijão, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso com três repetições. Os caracteres agronômicos avaliados foram: Número de dias para o florescimento, Ciclo, Altura média final das plantas, Altura média da inserção primeira vagem, Comprimento médio longitudinal das vagens, Número médio de vagens por planta, Número médio de sementes por vagem, Número médio de sementes por planta, Peso médio de 100 sementes e Produtividade de grãos. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância, seguido do teste de agrupamento de Scott e Knott. Para a análise da divergência genética entre as cultivares/linhagens foi empregada análise multivariada com base na distância generalizada de Mahalanobis, realizando posteriormente os métodos aglomerativos de otimização de Tocher, método hierárquico “UPGMA” e projeção de distância no plano 2D. O grau de preservação das distâncias genéticas no dendrograma foi verificado a partir do Coeficiente de Correlação Cofenética. Utilizou-se, também, o critério de Singh (1981) para quantificar a contribuição relativa das características para a divergência genética. As cultivares/linhagens avaliadas apresentam dissimilaridade genética quanto às características agronômicas avaliadas. A característica comprimento médio longitudinal das vagens é a que mais contribuiu para estimar a diversidade genética entre as cultivares/linhagens. E híbridos com maior efeito heterótico podem ser obtidos dos cruzamentos entre Iraí × Goiano Precoce, Iraí × Pérola, Goiano Precoce × CNFC 10467 e IAPAR 81 × Pérola.

The increase in energy consumption in Brazil and in the world generates an increasing need to seek renewable and non-polluting energy, such as biofuels. Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a plant with a great oil production capacity and potential for biodiesel production that presents high productivity and easy edaphoclimatic adaptation. It can be an economic culture option in crop rotation practiced by farmers, however it is still necessary to obtain more technical information about its cultivation and about the adapted and improved cultivars. Thus, the estimate of genetic divergence from morphological characters using multivariate techniques has become a common alternative among breeders. In this sense, the objective of this research was to carry out an analysis of the genetic divergence among the 49 safflower genotypes from the germplasm bank of the Instituto Mato Grossense do Algodão (IMA-MT), based on 13 morphological descriptors recommended by the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources - IBPGR (1983) and Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento - MAPA (2013). The divergence analysis was performed by means of the dissimilarity matrix based on multi-categorical variables and to identify the most similar genotypes, Tocher's optimization grouping methods and the hierarchical average grouping method between groups were used. The estimates of the dissimilarity coefficients ranged from 0.00 to 0.46, indicating the presence of genetic diversity among the evaluated genotypes. The highest dissimilarity value was between genotypes 29 and 9, 42 and 1, 42 and 32, 47 and 9, which are the most genetically divergent and thus promising materials for future genetic crosses. The UPGMA dendrogram and tocher grouping were partially consistent and effective in grouping safflower genotypes. El aumento en el consumo de energía en Brasil y en el mundo genera una creciente necesidad de buscar energía renovable y no contaminante, como los biocombustibles. El cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.) es una planta con una alta capacidad de producción de petróleo y potencial para la producción de biodiesel que tiene alta productividad y fácil adaptación edafoclimática. Puede ser una opción de cultura económica en la rotación de cultivos practicada por los agricultores, sin embargo, aún es necesario obtener más información técnica sobre su cultivo y sobre los cultivares adaptados y mejorados. Por lo tanto, la estimación de la divergencia genética de los caracteres morfológicos utilizando técnicas multivariadas se ha convertido en una alternativa común entre los criadores. En este sentido, el objetivo de esta investigación fue llevar a cabo un análisis de la divergencia genética entre los 49 genotipos de cártamo del banco de germoplasma del Instituto de Algodón Mato Grosso (IMA-MT), basado en 13 descriptores morfológicos recomendados por la Junta Internacional de Genética Vegetal Recursos - IBPGR (1983) y Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Abastecimiento-MAPA (2013). El análisis de divergencia se realizó utilizando la matriz de disimilitud basada en variables multicategoría y para identificar los genotipos más similares, se utilizaron los métodos de agrupación de optimización de Tocher y la agrupación jerárquica de medias entre grupos (UPGMA). Las estimaciones de los coeficientes de disparidad variaron de 0.00 a 0.46, lo que indica la presencia de diversidad genética entre los genotipos evaluados. El mayor valor de disimilitud fue entre los genotipos 29 y 9, 42 y 1, 42 y 32, 47 y 9, que son los materiales más genéticamente divergentes y, por lo tanto, prometedores para futuros cruces genéticos. El dendrograma UPGMA y la agrupación de tocher fueron parcialmente consistentes y efectivos en la agrupación de genotipos de cártamo. A análise da divergência foi realizada por meio da matriz de dissimilaridade com base em variáveis multicategóricas e para a identificação dos genótipos mais similares foi utilizado os métodos de agrupamento de otimização de Tocher e o método hierárquico de agrupamento médio entre grupos (UPGMA). As estimativas dos coeficientes de dissimilaridade variaram de 0,00 a 0,46, indicando presença de diversidade genética entre os genótipos avaliados. O maior valor de dissimilaridade foi entre os genótipos 29 e 9, 42 e 1, 42 e 32, 47 e 9, sendo estes os mais divergentes geneticamente e assim materiais promissores para futuros cruzamentos genético. O dendrograma UPGMA e agrupamento de tocher foram parcialmente concordantes e eficazes no agrupamento dos genótipos de cártamo.

O cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.) é uma oleaginosa herbácea com características que permitem seu cultivo em regiões áridas e semiáridas. Assim, a caracterização de diferentes genótipos de cártamo, é um passo importante na obtenção de informações básicas para programas de melhoramento desta cultura. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a divergência genética entre genótipos de cártamo com base em características morfológicas, a fim de fornecer orientações iniciais para programas de melhoramento genético. Foram avaliados 124 genótipos de Carthamus tinctorius L. oriundos do Banco Ativo de Germoplasma do Instituto Mato-grossense de Algodão e Laboratório de Recursos Genéticos Vegetais da Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso, Campus de Cáceres. Os genótipos foram avaliados quanto a 16 caracteres morfológicos e os dados submetidos a análise multivariada pelo método UPGMA de agrupamento. As estimativas dos coeficientes de dissimilaridade variaram de 0,00 a 0,56, indicando presença de diversidade genética entre os genótipos avaliados. Os agrupamentos estabelecidos no método Tocher e UPGMA apresentaram diferenças nos grupos formados, mudando completamente a composição destes. Com isso, existe variabilidade genética entre genótipos de cártamo avaliados com base nas características morfológicas, sugerido a utilização destes em futuras combinações em programa de melhoramento genético da cultura.

Receptor-like kinases are membrane proteins that can be shared by diverse signalling pathways. Among them, the Arabidopsis thaliana FERONIA (FER) plays a role in the balance between distinct signals to control growth and defence. We have found that COK-4, a putative kinase encoded in the common bean anthracnose resistance locus Co-4, which is transcriptionally regulated during the immune response, is highly similar to the kinase domain of FER. To assess whether COK-4 is a functional orthologue of FER, we expressed COK-4 in the wild-type Col-0 and the fer-5 mutant of Arabidopsis and evaluated FER-associated traits. We observed that fer-5 plants show an enhanced apoplastic and stomatal defence against Pseudomonas syringae. In addition, the fer-5 mutant shows reduced biomass, smaller guard cell size, greater number of stomata per leaf area, fewer leaves, faster transition to reproductive stage and lower seed weight per plant than the wild-type Col-0. Except for the stomatal complex length and number of stomata, COK-4 expression in fer-5 lines partially or completely rescued both defence and developmental defects of fer-5 to the wild-type level. Notably, COK-4 may have an additive effect to FER, as the expression of COK-4 in Col-0 resulted in enhanced defence and growth phenotypes in comparison with wild-type Col-0 plants. Altogether, these findings indicate that the common bean COK-4 shares at least some of the multiple functions of the Arabidopsis FER kinase domain, acting in both the induction of plant growth and regulation of plant defence.

The present research aimed to evaluate the genetic divergence in 34 sorghum biomass genotypes via agronomic and physicochemical characters. The design used was randomized blocks with three replications. The agronomic and physical-chemical characteristics evaluated were: days for flowering, number of stems, plant height, number of leaves, green mass production, dry mass production, determination of total ash, determination of volatile content, insoluble lignin and determination of fixed carbon content. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and then, to estimate divergence, the generalized Mahalanobis distance was used as a measure of dissimilarity. Based on this matrix, the methods of Tocher's optimization clusters and the Hierarchical method of Average Grouping Between Groups (UPGMA) were used, and analysis of canonical variables, and the projection based on the first two canonical variables arranged in two-dimensional space. Singh criterion was also used to quantify the relative contribution of these characteristics to genetic divergence. The evaluated genotypes showed significant differences for all the evaluated characteristics. The combination between the 201429B001 and 201429B028 (394.98) genotype pairs was the most divergent and the combination between the 201429B015 and 201429B031 (6.31) genotypes was the most similar. The grouping generated by the Tocher Optimization method, hierarchical UPGMA and graphical dispersion showed similarity in the grouping of genotypes. The first two canonical variables were sufficient to explain about 81.78% of the total variation observed. The results showed a wide genetic diversity among the 34 genotypes of sorghum biomass. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la divergencia genética en 34 genotipos de biomasa de sorgo mediante caracteres agronómicos y fisicoquímicos. El diseño utilizado fue de bloques al azar con tres repeticiones. Las características agronómicas y físico-químicas evaluadas fueron: días de floración, número de tallos, altura de la planta, número de hojas, producción en masa verde, producción en masa seca, determinación de cenizas totales, determinación de contenido volátil, lignina insoluble y determinación del contenido de carbono fijo. Los datos se sometieron a análisis de varianza y luego, para estimar la divergencia, se utilizó la distancia de Mahalanobis generalizada como medida de disimilitud. A partir de esta matriz, se utilizaron los métodos de optimización de clusters de Tocher y el método Jerárquico de Agrupación Promedio entre Grupos (UPGMA) y el análisis de variables canónicas, y la proyección a partir de las dos primeras variables canónicas ordenadas en un espacio bidimensional. También se utilizó el criterio de Singh para cuantificar la contribución relativa de estas características a la divergencia genética. Los genotipos evaluados mostraron diferencias significativas para todas las características evaluadas. La combinación entre los pares de genotipos 201429B001 y 201429B028 (394.98) fue la más divergente y la combinación entre los genotipos 201429B015 y 201429B031 (6.31) fue la más similar. El agrupamiento generado por el método de Optimización de Tocher, UPGMA jerárquico y dispersión gráfica mostró similitud en el agrupamiento de genotipos. Las dos primeras variables canónicas fueron suficientes para explicar alrededor del 81,78 % de la variación total observada. Los resultados mostraron una amplia diversidad genética entre los 34 genotipos de biomasa de sorgo. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a divergência genética em 34 genótipos de sorgo biomassa via caracteres agronômicos e físico-químicos. As características agronômicas e físico-químicas avaliadas foram: dias para florescimento, número de colmos, altura da planta, número de folhas, produção de massa verde, produção de massa seca, determinação de cinzas totais, determinação do teor de voláteis, lignina insolúvel e determinação teor de carbono fixo. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e em seguida, para estimar divergência foi utilizada como medida de dissimilaridade a distância generalizada de Mahalanobis. Com base nesta matriz, foram empregados os métodos de agrupamentos de otimização de Tocher e método Hierárquico de Agrupamento Médio Entre Grupos (UPGMA), e análises de variáveis canônicas, e a projeção com base nas duas primeiras variáveis canônicas dispostas no espaço bidimensional. Utilizou-se, também, o critério de Singh para quantificar a contribuição relativa dessas características na divergência genética. Os genótipos avaliados apresentaram diferenças significativas para as todas as características avaliadas. A combinação entre os pares de genótipos 201429B001 e 201429B028 (394.98) foi a mais divergente e a combinação entre os genótipos 201429B015 e 201429B031 (6.31) a mais similar. O agrupamento gerado pelo método de Otimização de Tocher, hierárquico UPGMA e dispersão gráfica demostraram semelhança no agrupamento dos genótipos. This research aimed to broaden the knowledge of the academic community about the challenges of this neoplasm and to identify the scientific evidence on the role of nurses in strategies for adherence/educational actions to the preventive exam of prostate cancer. This is a qualitative, exploratory, literature review, based on the question: How can nurses contribute to adherence strategies in relation to rectal examination for prostate cancer diagnosis? The results showed that nurses have a significant role in preventive actions and adherence in relation to the rectal examination, and that there should be campaigns to deconstruct ideas linked to the myth that rectal touch hurts the masculinity of men.

Among the most produced cereals worldwide, sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), presents low productivity in Brazil, mainly due to the occurrence of diseases, with a prominence of sooty stripe, caused by the fungus Ramulispora sorghi, until then considered a secondary disease, has increased its incidence and severity, especially in conditions of high humidity and temperature. The most efficient means of control is the use of resistant cultivars, in this sense, studies on the genetic variability of the fungus through molecular markers are of great importance for the breeding programs of sorghum. The objective of this work was to evaluate the genetic variability in isolates of Ramulispora sorghi belonging to the mycoteca of the Laboratory of Genetic Resources & Biotechnology of the Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso, campus of Cáceres, via molecular markers of the ISSR type. The results indicate the existence of genetic variability among the isolates of R. sorghi. The Polymorphic Information Content (PIC) showed that the primers were classified as medium informational with an average value of 0.27. 71 polymorphic fragments were formed considering the 40 isolates of R. sorghi, which presented the value of k = 2, represent the differentiation of the isolates into two distinct clusters. The genetic dissimilarity measures were estimated by the Coefficient of Nei and Li, where the combination between the isolates B107/16 (15) and B103/15 (16) obtained the smallest magnitude (0,12) and the combinations between isolates B111/16 (2) and S114/15 (33), S316/15 (3) and S114/15 (33), B115/16 (4) and S114/15 (33), B118/16 (6) and S114/15 (33) were more dissimilar (1,00). The “UPGMA” method provided a breakdown of the 40 isolates into 4 distinct groups. The Cophenetic Correlaction Coefficient (CCC) presented significant value with r = 0,84. The Tocher’s optimization method allowed the 40 isolates to be distributed in 10 different groups. These results provide relevant information on the genetic variability among the 40 isolates of R. sorghi analyzed. In addition, they indicate that fungus have a wide genetic diversity, and have been recurring in different regions of Brazil and the world, and thus, larger studies become essential for more effective control measures.

Carthamus tinctorius L. is an oil seed, used both for human consumption and for industrial purposes. It is a crop that presents wide adaptability to various ecophysiological conditions, although it presents great productive potential and wide adaptability, it is still necessary to obtain technical information regarding its cultivation and of cultivars adapted and improved. In this sense, the estimation of genetic divergence using multivariate techniques has become a common tool among breeders. In view of the above, this research aimed to evaluate the genetic divergence of safflower genotypes originate from the Germplasm Active Bank (BAG) of the Instituto Mato-grossense do Algodão (IMA-MT) by means of multivariate analysis, aiming at the extension of information of this culture. The genetic divergence was estimated using multivariate analysis based on the Euclidean average distance, using the clustering optimization methods of Tocher and Hierarchical “UPGMA”. The results obtained allowed to identify the existence of genetic divergence among the evaluated genotypes, highlighting genotypes 5 and 38, which presented greater genetic divergence, constituting in potential sources of interest for the use in program of genetic improvement that aim at the development of superior cultivars of safflower.

Sweet sorghum presents stems with juice similar to that of sugar cane, rich in fermentable sugars, that may be used in off-season for sugar and ethanol production optimizing the sugar-ethanol sector. The objective of this work was to determine genetic correlations between characters and perform path analysis between juice volume and its components. Twenty-five sweet sorghum genotypes were evaluated in randomized blocks design with three repetitions and studied variables were: number of days to flowering; plant height; number of stems; weight of green mass; weight of dry mass; number of leaves; diameter of stems; volume of extracted juice and percentage of total soluble solids. In order to verify the existence of variability among the genotypes, data were subjected to variance analysis by F-test. Subsequently, genetic parameters were determined, as soon as genetic correlation estimator?s method, performed by t-test, to determine phenotypic correlation and bootstrap method for determining environmental and genetics correlation coefficient. Before performing path analysis a multicollinearity diagnosis was also conducted. The results of genetic correlation and path analysis point weight of green mass as the main variable influencing the juice volume, allowing these characters in indirect selection for increasing juice volume. The sweet sorghum apart from being used as food, feed and fiber, is also an excellent source for production of alcohol biofuel due to its high content of soluble sugars in the plant stalk sap), little has been researched about genetic diversity. The objective of this research was to evaluate the genetic divergence of sweet sorghum genotypes based on morphoagronomics characteristics. Twenty-five genotypes of sweet sorghum were evaluated in a randomized blocks design and the variables analyzed were: number of days to flowering; plant height; number of stalks per hectare; green mass production; dry mass production; number of leaves; diameter of stalks; volume of extracted juice and percentage of total soluble solids. The genetic diversity of genotypes was estimated based on the Mahalanobis distance as dissimilarity measure for the clustering structure we used the method of Tocher, UPGMA and canonical variate analysis. Groups generated demonstrated similarity in clustering genotypes, with more similar combinations remained in the same group in both clustering methods and most dissimilar combinations were isolated. The genotypes CMSXS644 and 201027018 were most are dissimilar the genetically and the characters that contribute most to the genetic diversity among the genotypes analyzed were PH and FLOWER.
