Abstract The use of hydrogels helpsthe production of plants in drought-stress environments. Thus, this work evaluated using different hydrogels to minimize drought stress in soybean cultivation. The treatments employed two different hydrogels, one already commercialized and the other produced with cashew gum (Anacardium occidentale), five levels (0, 30, 60, 120, and 240 mg pot−1) of the hydrogels, and two levels of drought stress in sandy soil. The growth and yield of soybeans and the levels of macro- and micronutrients in soybeans were evaluated.growth. The use of CG hydrogel promoted 12% increase in protein content in the seeds in the when soybean plants were subjected to drought stress. The levels of 30 mg pot-1, corresponding to 7.5 kg ha−1, improved the ’morphological and productive parametersof the soybeans. The increasing levels of hydrogel promoted the increase in P, K, Ca, Mg, and Fe and reduced S and Cu on an exponential scale. The use of cashew gum hydrogel increased the K and Ca contents in soybean seeds compared to commercial hydrogel.

ABSTRACT Stress caused by defoliation can compromise the physiological quality of soybean seeds. However, there is evidence that the application of nitrogen (N) can be an alternative to reduce the qualitative losses in seeds caused by defoliating insects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of topdressing N fertilization in improving the physiological quality of soybean seeds from plants subjected to artificial defoliation. The experimental design was a randomized block arranged in a 2×4 factorial scheme with four replicates. The treatments consisted of two levels of defoliation (33 and 66%) and four doses of N (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg ha-1), using urea (45% N), applied two days after defoliation. Artificial defoliation was performed during the R3 stage by removing one (33%) and two leaflets (66%) from each trifoliate leaf under field conditions. At stage R5.1, leaf area was quantified, and after harvesting, germination, emergence, length, total dry mass, electrical conductivity, total protein content, mass of 1000 seeds, and tetrazolium (vigor and viability) tests were carried out. It was concluded that increasing the defoliation from 33 to 66% impaired the physiological quality of soybean seeds. The use of nitrogen fertilization for coverage after defoliation at the beginning of the reproductive phase cannot minimize qualitative losses in seeds.

The different conditions of soil vegetation cover combined with irrigation management and/or agricultural production systems can influence soil moisture content and crop yields. This study investigated the impact of agricultural production systems and center pivot irrigation management on soil moisture content during the cultivation of soybean and off-season corn crops. Two field experiments were conducted during the 2018–2019 growing season in tropical Cerrado soil conditions; one experiment consisted of the application of three irrigation water depths (0%, 50%, and 100% of the crop evapotranspiration) during soybean cultivation in a no-tillage system under ruzigrass (Urochloa ruziziensis) straw, and the second experiment consisted of the intercropped or nonintercropped cultivation of corn hybrids with ruzigrass in an agricultural area with and without the influence of eucalyptus reforestation. The volumetric soil moisture was measured using an electronic soil moisture meter (Hidrofarm), and the 1000-grain mass and yield of the soybean and corn were measured in the two trials. Irrigation and the no-till system did not influence soybean yields. The soybean cultivars NA 5909 RG and TMG 7067 IPRO presented TGM above 180 g, and this represented on average a 22% higher TGM than the BMX DESAFIO RR and CD 2737 RR. The presence of eucalyptus forest promoted a 1.5% increase in soil moisture in the corn crop. Soil management systems, such as irrigation, use cover crops, which may not increase the productivity of soybean and corn crops as expected.

The objective of this study was to assess the agronomic and nutritional responses of Carajás grass (Cenchrus purpureus × C. americanus, syn. Pennisetum purpureum × P. glaucum, cultivar ‘Carajás’) fertilized with protected urea. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks in split-plot arrangement over time. The treatments consisted of 5 levels of nitrogen (0, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg N/ha/year) and measurements were made over 2 seasons (spring 2015 and summer 2016), with 8 replicates. Leaf and stem elongation and senescence rate of tillers increased as N dosage increased, while tiller density, leaf:stem ratio, live:dead material ratio and phyllochron declined. Forage biomass increased with N dosage reaching 47 t DM green forage/ha at 800 kg N/ha but DM production per unit of N applied declined dramatically as level of N applied increased. There was no effect of season. For crude protein (CP) and fiber concentrations, a positive effect was observed with increasing N application, with maximum CP% of 172 g/kg with 800 kg N/ha in spring. Further studies are warranted to determine if economics indicate that the higher fertilizer levels are justified and even protected urea should still be applied on a number of occasions, but still less often than conventional urea, rather than as a single dose at the beginning of spring.

Soybean is the main leguminous crop in Brazil, mostly grown in tropical soils with low potassium (K) availability. Therefore, the identification of new genotypes with efficient K uptake and utilization in environments with low exchangeable K content is an economically viable alternative to maximize crop yield in Brazil. A study was conducted to investigate the response of 25 modern high-yield soybean genotypes for K-use efficiency in a sandy tropical soil of the Brazilian Cerrado. Treatments were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2 × 25 factorial scheme: two levels of K fertilization [20 mg K dm−3 (low level) or 200 mg K dm−3 (high level)] and 25 soybean genotypes with three replicates. Plant morphological traits, leaf K, and crop production components were measured. Based on grain production data, K-use efficiency (KUE) and response efficiency (RE) to K fertilization were calculated. Leaf area, shoot dry matter, pod number per plant, 1000-grain weight, and grain yield were the crop characteristics most limited by low soil K availability. The soybean genotypes “TMG7061 IPRO”, “BMX Bônus IPRO”, “RK6719 IPRO”, and “RK8317 IPRO” were classified as efficient in the use of soil K and are the most suitable genotypes to be cultivated in agricultural soils with low K availability. The genotypes “98R35 IPRO”, “HO Maracaí IPRO”, “BMX Bônus IPRO”, and “RK7518 IPRO” were classified as responsive to K fertilization and are the most recommended genotypes for cultivation in agricultural areas with the application of high K fertilizer rates. The genotype “BMX Bônus IPRO” simultaneously combines characteristics of K-use efficiency and response to K fertilization and hence can be grown in both K-deficient and optimal soils.

ABSTRACT Veitchia merrilli (Becc) H. E. Moore is a palm tree widely used in gardening. Due to the continuous production of flowers on the inflorescences, there are fruits and seeds in various stages of maturation on the same plant, making it hard to determine the best fruit maturation stage for obtaining vigorous seeds. This study measured the biometric characteristics of the fruit at different stages of maturation and identified the best fruit maturation stage from which to obtain seeds with optimal physiological quality. Mature fruits were harvested from the tops of 10 trees and the ground, categorized according to their maturation stage and measured for overall length, equatorial diameter, and fresh weight. An experiment to identify the best fruit maturation stage for obtaining seeds of the V. merrilli with satisfactory physiological quality was carried out in a greenhouse, with five treatments (maturation stage) and ten replications; each plot was composed of 20 seeds. Plant height, root length, stem diameter, root and above ground dry weight, total dry weight, and Dickson’s quality index were measured. The green fruit stage is the most suitable for obtaining seeds of V. merrilli with the best physiological qualities. The fruits at the dark red maturity stage had the greatest length, while the those in the green transition stage had the greatest diameter and fresh weight.

ABSTRACT In this study, we evaluated the impact of two planting positions of cassava cuttings, cv. ‘Vassourinha’, combined with different times and doses of nitrogen application, on productivity and other agronomic traits. In the experiment, the treatment was completely randomized using a 2 × 3 × 4 factorial scheme with two positions of the cuttings [horizontal (PH) and vertical (PV)], three instances of N application (45, 90, and 135 days after planting), and four doses of N (0, 80, 160, and 240 kg ha-1), with six repetitions. We recorded and evaluated the plant height, number of shoots, stem diameter, biomass of the aerial part, number of commercial roots, the total production, and the collection index. The addition of 240 kg ha-1 N and PH increased plant height and stem diameter but did not affect the number of commercial roots, total production, or the collection index. The treatment involving the addition of nitrogen fertilizer 135 days after planting with 240 kg ha-1 N and planting in the PV provided the highest amount of shoot biomass without influencing crop productivity.

The cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. contains considerable amounts of protein, iron, and calcium that could mitigate the problems of anemia and malnutrition in humans. However, the nutritional value of the edible species Nostoc sphaericum Vaucher ex Bornet & Flahault, which grows in the Moquegua region, is unknown. Descriptive research was developed, and samples were obtained from the community of Aruntaya, located in the region of Moquegua. Water samples were taken at two different points (spring and reservoir), and samples of the cyanobacteria were taken in the reservoir. The design used was completely randomized, with three repetitions. Sixteen characteristics associated with the water collected at two points were evaluated, and from the nutritional point of view, seven characteristics were evaluated in the collected algae. The physicochemical characteristics were determined using methods established in the Codex Alimentarius. For the morphological characterization at the macroscopic level, it was observed that the seaweed collected was spherical in shape, grayish-green in color, soft to the touch, and palatable. After carrying out the physicochemical and morphological characterization of the collected samples, it was verified that all were of N. sphaericum. When comparing the sixteen characteristics related to water at the two collection sites, highly significant differences (p < 0.01) were observed for most of the variables evaluated. The average data of the characteristics of the algae showed protein values of 28.18 ± 0.33%, carbohydrates of 62.07 ± 0.69%, fat of 0.71 ± 0.02%, fiber of 0.91 ± 0.02%, ash of 7.68 ± 0.10%, and moisture of 0.22 ± 0.01%. Likewise, calcium reported an average value of 377.80 ± 1.43 mg/100 g and iron of 4.76 ± 0.08 mg/100 g. High correlations (positive and negative) were obtained by evaluating seven characteristics associated with the reservoir water where the algae grew in relation to eight nutritional characteristics of the algae. In relation to the nutritional value, the amounts of protein, iron, and calcium exceed the main foods of daily intake. Therefore, it could be considered a nutritious food to combat anemia and malnutrition.

The genus Gossypium has important ethnobotanical and economic value for Amazonian Native Communities (A.N.C.). However, little research has been undertaken on the distribution and genetic diversity of cotton populations maintained in the Peruvian rainforest. This work aims to present the first report on the genetic diversity of Gossypium spp. populations in the A.N.C. of the province of La Convención, Cusco-Peru. The methodology was based on exploring, collecting, identifying, and characterizing the Gossypium populations present in the A.N.C. Twenty-six descriptors were evaluated (9 quantitative and 17 qualitative), and with this information, distribution, correlation, and principal component (PC) analyses were carried out. As a result, plants of two species [G. barbadense L. (44 samples) and G. hirsutum L. (19 samples)], one variety [G. barbadense var. brasiliensis (75 samples)], and three previously unidentified variations (9 samples) were identified. Altogether, 147 samples were collected. G. barbadense var. brasiliensis, which was always found in association with other economic crops within an altitude range of 338 to 1086 m, was the most predominant (51%), distributed in eleven A.N.C. and always in small plots (up to 2 ha). G. barbadense L. was cultivated between 397 and 1137 m of altitude in eight A.N.C. in plots of up to 3 ha in marginal lands. G. hirsutum L., with a smaller distribution (13%), was found between 334 and 497 m of altitude in only three communities; this species is cultivated in marginal areas throughout the year. The variability found for the first two PCs when considering the quantitative and qualitative descriptors was high (74.7%) and moderate (48.2%), respectively. When combining all the descriptors, the analysis showed that the first two PCs accounted for 51.8% of the total variability of the data. The PCs of the two types of data and their combination confirmed that the three populations found were grouped. The nine undefined samples were close to or intermediate between the described ones, showing that these samples may be the result of spontaneous crosses; as such, these samples need to be better evaluated with other tools for further definition. The information obtained shows that in the A.N.C. of Cusco-Peru, there is variability conserved by the inhabitants, who have been able to maintain and use these genotypes, even from their Amazonian indigenous ancestry, and the environment has been able to generate variability among the species, as will be highlighted in future works.

ABSTRACT Late season nitrogen (N) applications may serve as cultural practices to increase soybean yield and grain protein concentration in modern high-yielding cultivars. A study to evaluate the response of soybean cultivars to late N application in supplementation to Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation was conducted in two Brazilian Cerrado agricultural soils with medium and high fertility during the 2019/2020 growing season. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design in a 2×2×5 factorial scheme: two agricultural production environments [UFMS 1 (medium fertility) and UFMS 2 (high fertility)], two soybean cultivars (TMG 7067 IPRO and BMX Bônus IPRO), and five late N application rates (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha-1), with four replicates. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) was used to investigate the interrelationships between the groups of independent (agricultural production environments, soybean cultivars, and N application rates) and dependent (soybean agronomic traits) variables. Nitrogen rates were applied in topdressing at the R5.3 soybean growth stage. Late N applications did not affect soybean agronomic traits (plant height, first pod height, pod number per plant, grain number per pod, and 1,000-grain mass) and did not increase the grain protein concentration or yield of the soybean cultivars, regardless of the fertility level of the agricultural area. We conclude that when efficient strains of Bradyrhizobium spp. are used in soybean cropping in medium- and high-fertility Cerrado soils, there is no need to apply late rates of N fertilizer.

Excessive rainfall in the soybean preharvest period can make mechanized crop harvesting technically and economically unfeasible, causing 100% losses in soybean grain yield. An alternative to reduce the economic losses of farmers would be using unharvested soybean crop residues as a source of nitrogen (N) for the subsequent corn crop. However, a question that still needs to be understood is whether the amount of N released from unharvested soybean residues (straw and grains) is sufficient to meet all the nutritional demand for this nutrient in the off-season corn. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of unharvested soybean crop residue persistence on the yield response of off-season corn crop (Zea mays L.) to the application of N fertilizer rates when grown in tropical Cerrado soils of medium and high fertility. Four simple corn hybrids (SYN7G17 TL, 30F53VYHR, B2433PWU, and AG 8700 PRO3) were grown in soils of medium fertility and medium acidity level (UFMS 1) and high fertility and low acidity level (UFMS 2) and fertilized with five of N fertilizer rates (0, 40, 80, 120, and 160 kg ha-1 of N) applied at 30 days after emergence (DAE). Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) was used to investigate the interrelationships between the groups of independent (agricultural production areas, corn cultivars, and N application rates) and dependent (corn agronomic traits) variables. Crop residues remaining on the soil surface from soybeans not harvested and inoculated with Bradyrhizobium spp. can supply most of the nitrogen requirement of off-season corn grown in succession, especially in tropical soils of medium fertility. However, in high-fertility tropical soils, the maximum grain yield potential of off-season corn cultivars can be obtained with the application of mineral N fertilizer in supplement the amount of nitrogen released from unharvested soybean residues. Therefore, the N requirement depends on the corn cultivar and the agricultural production area. However, our results show that when off-season corn is grown on unharvested soybean residues, nitrogen fertilization in topdressing can be dispensed. The agricultural area with high fertility soil (UFMS 2) enhances the grain yield of the off-season corn crop. The corn cultivar AG 8700 PRO3 has a higher thousand-grain mass and high grain yield potential under Brazilian Cerrado conditions.

ABSTRACT The physiological seed quality can be altered by nutritional management of the soybean crop, especially by the fertilization with nitrogen (N), which is a structural component of several organic compounds, including proteins, and has an important catalytic role in the activation of several enzymes. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of sources and application rates of mineral N fertilizer associated with inoculation of Bradyrhizobium spp. on physiological quality of soybean seeds. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized block design, in a 3 × 5 factorial arrangement [three N fertilizer sources (Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation; Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation + urea application; and, Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation + ammonium sulfate application) and five N application rates (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha-1)], with four replicates. Nitrogen fertilizer was applied in topdressing at R2 stage when soybean plants were in full flowering. The quality parameters evaluated in soybean seeds were: 1,000-seed mass, seed protein content, germination, first germination count test, seedling emergence, emergence speed index, accelerated aging, electrical conductivity, vigor and viability of seeds by tetrazolium test. The application of 50 kg N ha-1 of mineral fertilizer (ammonium sulfate or urea) associated with the Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation enhanced the physiological quality of soybean seeds, resulting in higher seed germination percentage and higher emergence and seedling emergence speed index. The application of ammonium sulfate or urea (50 kg N ha-1) at full flowering of soybean plants inoculated with Bradyrhizobium spp. can improve the physiological quality of soybean seeds.

Periods of soil water stress have been recurrent in the Cerrado region and have become a growing concern for Brazilian tropical pasture areas. Thus, the search for forage grasses more tolerant to water stress has intensified recently in order to promote more sustainable livestock. In a greenhouse experiment, the degree of water stress tolerance of nine tropical forage grass cultivars was studied under different soil water regimes. The investigation followed a 9 × 3 factorial design in four randomized blocks. Nine cultivars from five species of perennial forage grasses were tested: Urochloa brizantha (‘BRS Piatã’, ‘Marandu’, and ‘Xaraés’), Panicum maximum (‘Aruana’, ‘Mombaça’, and ‘Tanzânia’), Pennisetum glaucum (‘ADR 300’), Urochloa ruziziensis (‘Comum’), and Paspalum atratum (‘Pojuca’). These cultivars were grown in pots under three soil water regimes (high soil water regime—HSW (non-stressful condition), middle soil water regime—MSW (moderate water stress), and low soil water regime—LSW (severe water stress)). Plants were exposed to soil water stress for 25 days during the tillering and stalk elongation phases. Twelve tolerance indices, including tolerance index (TOL), mean production (MP), yield stability index (YSI), drought resistance index (DI), stress tolerance index (STI), geometric mean production (GMP), yield index (YI), modified stress tolerance (k1STI and k2STI), stress susceptibility percentage index (SSPI), abiotic tolerance index (ATI), and harmonic mean (HM), were calculated based on shoot biomass production under non-stressful (YP) and stressful (YS) conditions. Soil water stress decreased leaf area, plant height, tillering capacity, root volume, and shoot and root dry matter production in most cultivars, with varying degrees of reduction among tropical forage grasses. Based on shoot biomass production under controlled greenhouse conditions, the most water-stress-tolerant cultivars were P. maximum cv. Mombaça and cv. Tanzânia under the MSW regime and P. maximum cv. Aruana and cv. Mombaça under the LSW regime. P. maximum cv. Mombaça has greater adaptability and stability of shoot biomass production when grown under greenhouse conditions and subjected to soil water stress. Therefore, this forage grass should be tested under field conditions to confirm its forage production potential for cultivation in tropical regions with the occurrence of water stress. The MP, DI, STI, GMP, YI, k2STI, and HM tolerance indices were the most suitable for identifying forage grass cultivars with greater water stress tolerance and a high potential for shoot biomass production under LSW regime.

Stress events or leaf damage can alter the redistribution of photoassimilates and modify the morphological traits directly related to grain yield. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of agronomic traits on grain yield in soybean crop in function of leaf defoliation. The experiment consisted of a randomized block design with three replications, arranged in a 6 x 3 + 1 factorial scheme. The factors were composed by six reprodutive stages (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6) and three defoliation levels (33%, 66%, and 99%), and one additional treatment without defoliation (control). The following traits were evaluated: plant height, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, thousand grain weight, and grain yield. The magnitudes of the correlations between the same traits showed high oscillation according to the defoliation level. Results revealed the potential for the indirect selection for grain yield by the traits plant height and number of grains per pods under 0% of defoliation and by the trait number of pods per plant under 33% of defoliation.

O uso do solo de forma sustentável requer um amplo conhecimento sobre sua gênese, morfologia, propriedades e distribuição na paisagem. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com esta pesquisa realizar a caracterização pedogenética dos solos representativos da transição cerrado-caatinga da bacia hidrográfica do rio Gurguéia a fim de indicar sua aptidão e limitações para a implantação de sistemas agroflorestais. A caracterização baseou-se no estudo morfológico e na análise química e física dos horizontes de sete perfis de solos. Os sistemas de classificação de solos nacional e internacional foram utilizados para definir as classes de solos existentes na área pesquisada. Os fatores limitantes e a aptidão agrícola dos solos foram caracterizados conforme preposto no sistema de avaliação da aptidão agrícola de terras do Brasil. De forma geral, os perfis 1, 3, 5 e 6 apresentam baixa reserva de nutrientes e textura arenosa a média. Os perfis 2, 4 e 7 possuem maiores teores de argila e maior reserva de nutriente. Diante das características pedogenéticas dos perfis, pôde-se classificar os perfis de solo como NEOSSOLO QUARTZARÊNICO Órtico latossólico; VERTISSOLO HIDROMÓRFICO Órtico típico, LATOSSOLO AMARELO Distrófico típico, ARGISSOLO AMARELO Distrófico Abrúptico, LATOSSOLO VERMELHO-AMARELO Distrófico argissólico e CAMBISSOLO HÁPLICO Tb Eutrófico típico respectivamente. Os VERTISSOLOS e CAMBISSOLOS presentam restrições a implantação de florestas devido à restrição de oxigênio e restrição a profundidade do solo. As demais classes de solos apresentaram propriedades físicas adequadas para a implantação de sistemas agrícolas e pastagens, incluindo boa drenagem e textura média; no entanto, tinham baixa fertilidade natural e, portanto, requerem correção da acidez do solo e adubação. Os solos NEOSSOLOS e ARGISSOLOS requerem a implementação de sistemas de conservação, como as agroflorestas, para evitar sua degradação.

Agricultural production is influenced by the water content in the soil and availability of fertilizers. Thus, superabsorbent hydrogels, based on polyacrylamide, natural cashew tree gum (CG) and potassium hydrogen phosphate (PHP), as fertilizer and water releaser were developed. The structure, morphology, thermal stability and chemical composition of samples of polyacrylamide and cashew tree gum hydrogels with the presence of fertilizer (HCGP) and without fertilizer (HCG) were investigated, using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA/DTG) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). Swelling/reswelling tests, textural analysis, effect of pH, release of nutrients and kinetics were determined; the ecotoxicity of the hydrogels was investigated by the Artemia salina test. The results showed that PHP incorporation in the hydrogel favored the crosslinking of chains. This increased the thermal stability in HCGP but decreased the hardness and adhesion properties. The HCGP demonstrated good swelling capacity (~15,000 times) and an excellent potential for reuse after fifty-five consecutive cycles. The swelling was favored in an alkaline pH due to the ionization of hydrophilic groups. The sustained release of phosphorus in HCGP was described by the Korsmeyer–Peppas model, and Fickian diffusion is the main fertilizer release mechanism. Finally, the hydrogels do not demonstrate toxicity, and HCGP has potential for application in agriculture.

Rainfall is the primary water source for hydrographic basins. Hence, the quantification and knowledge of its temporal and spatial distribution are indispensable in dimensioning hydraulic projects. This study aimed at assessing the fit of a series of rainfall data to different probability models, as well as estimating parameters of the intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) equation for rain stations of the Paraíba State, Brazil. The rainfall data of each station were obtained from the Brazilian Water Agency databanks. To estimate the maximum daily rainfall of each station and return period (5, 10, 15, 25, 50 and 100 years), the following probability distributions were used: Gumbel, Log-Normal II, Log-Normal III, Pearson III and Log-Pearson III. The estimation of rainfall in durations of 5-1,440 min was carried out by daily rainfall disaggregation. The adjustment of the IDF equation was performed via nonlinear multiple regression, using the nonlinear generalized reduced gradient interaction method. When compared to the data observed, the intense rainfall equations for most stations showed goodness of fit with coefficients of determination above 0.99, which supports the methodology applied in this study.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar diferentes plantas de cobertura em níveis de fitomassa na emergência e crescimento inicial de Amaranthus deflexus. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação, em um delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial (8 x 4) + 1, sendo: 8 espécies de plantas de cobertura [Pennisetum glaucum, Crambe abyssinica, Urochloa brizantha, Stylosanthes (capitata e macrocephala), Sorghum bicolor, Vigna unguiculata, Crotalarias juncea e Crotalaria ocroleuca] e 4 níveis de fitomassa (4 t ha-1; 8 t ha-1; 12 t ha-1 e 16 t ha-1, em que metade foi incorporada e a outra disposta sobre a superfície do solo), mais 1 tratamento sem cobertura do solo. As plantas de cobertura, a partir de 4 t ha-1 de fitomassa, se mostraram eficientes na redução da emergência e crescimento de A. deflexus, com destaque para U. brizantha, S. bicolor, P. glaucum e Stylosanthes sp.

The objective was to determine chemical composition and in situ degradability for silages of dual-purpose sorghum hybrids. Twenty-five hybrids of double-purpose sorghum were investigated in a randomized block design with three replicates. Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), pH, chemical composition of the silage and in situ degradability were determined. Silage of the hybrids 9929012, 947216, 947030, 947254, 947072, 947252, 12F042066, 1141570 and 1141562 presented greater dry matter content, ranging from 402.9 to 470.7 g kg-1. The greatest crude protein content was presented by silages from the hybrids 9929036, 9929030, 12F042224, FEPAGRO19, FEPAGRO11, 9929026, 947030, 947072, 947252, 12F042226 and BRS Ponta Negra. The silage of hybrid 1141562 exhibited the lowest neutral detergent fiber content (588 g kg-1). The highest values of dry matter and crude protein degradability were observed in the silages of the hybrids 9929030, 947252, 947072, 12F042066 and 12F042226. The use of ensilage of the 9929030 and 12F042226 hybrids is recommended because these silages present a better chemical composition of dry matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber and better dry matter and crude protein degradability.

The aim is to know the rural settlement "Brejo dos Altos" to discuss whether the laws and public policies would be sufficient to encourage sustainable production and strengthening family agriculture to be able to promote the new rural development model. It used bibliographical and qualitative research to analyze the concepts and agrarian policy objectives, land policy, land reform, settlement and seated, according to the data collected. With land reform was an improvement in the quality of life of farmers, however, there are numerous challenges to be overcome in order to achieve the objectives of land policy.

Diante da geração acentuada de resíduos orgânicos sólidos e efluentes, a utilização desses materiais como fonte primária de nutrientes consiste em uma importante prática de gestão ambiental, sobretudo na produção de mudas com ênfase à recuperação de áreas degradadas. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o crescimento e o balanço nutricional de mudas de tamboril (Enterolobium contortsiliquum (Vell.) Morong) cultivadas em substratos com diferentes formulações e proporções de resíduos orgânicos irrigados com água residuária. Foram testados cinco proporções de composto orgânico e solo: 0:100; 20:80; 40:60; 60:40 e 80:20 v/v, e duas qualidades de água de irrigação: água de abastecimento e água residuária de suinocultura, dispostos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial, 5 x 2, com quatro repetições. Aos 90 dias, foram avaliadas as variáveis morfológicas, índices do sistema integrado de diagnose e recomendação e do balanço nutricional médio das mudas. Constatou-se que o resíduo orgânico contribui para o crescimento e o equilíbrio nutricional das mudas. A proporção 80:20 mostrou-se a mais indicada à produção de mudas de tamboril. O crescimento e balanço nutricional das mudas foram inferiores nos tratamentos que receberam irrigação com água residuária de suinocultura.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi caracterizar o desenvolvimento e o rendimento de cultivares de bananeira no sudoeste de Goiás e adequar os níveis de adubação combinada de N e K. O experimento foi conduzido em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico, no município de Rio Verde, Goiás. Os tratamentos consistiram em cinco doses crescentes e combinadas de N e K (N0/K0 - 0 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e 0 kg ha-1 ano-1 de K; N1/K1 - 150 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e 200 kg ha-1 ano-1 de K ; N2/K2 - 300 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e 450 kg ha-1 ano-1 de K; N3/K3 - 450 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e 600 kg ha-1 ano-1 de K; N4/K4 - 600 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e 800 kg ha-1 ano-1 de K), aplicadas em duas cultivares de banana, Thap Maeo e a Prata-Anã. As avaliações realizadas nas bananeiras foram: altura das plantas, diâmetro do pseudocaule e número de folhas aos 150 dias após plantio (DAT) e na época do florescimento. As plantas foram avaliadas no florescimento e na colheita das bananeiras, observando os seguintes componentes de produção: intervalo em dias entre o plantio e o florescimento, número de folhas na colheita, número de pencas por cacho e frutos na segunda penca, comprimento do engaço e dos frutos na segunda penca, diâmetro do engaço e dos frutos na segunda penca e peso do cacho, engaço e dos frutos na segunda penca. Amostras foliares das bananeira foram realizadas no seu florescimento e foram analisadas para obter os teores de macro e micronutrientes. Com os dados dos componentes de produção, calcularam-se o índice de durabilidade das folhas e a taxa de crescimento absoluto do pseudocaule das bananeiras. Os resultados foram submetidos a ANOVA e regressão, e a comparação de médias foi feita pelo teste de Tukey. Os atributos de desenvolvimento, a produção e os teores de macronutrientes e micronutrientes nas folhas da Thap Maeo e Prata-Anã foram influenciados pelas diferentes doses combinadas de N e K. O menor intervalo de dias entre o florescimento foi encontrado com as doses de 300 kg ha-1 de N e 450 kg ha-1 de K na Thap Maeo. Não houve melhor combinação das doses de N e K para os parâmetros de desenvolvimento, produção e teores foliares na Prata-Anã.

Applying micronutrients to the soilhas a residual effect, reducing the fertilizer applications that are needed under a no-tillage system. The present study determined the residual effect of applying micronutrient-containing fertilizer to soil used for corn production under a no-tillage system. The field study was conducted in Red Latosol in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. The experiment was a conducted in a randomized block design with five treatments and four replicates. The fertilizer used in the study contained the micronutrients Mn, Zn, Fe, Cu, and B in powder form and was applied atfour doses (33.33 kg ha-1, 66.66 kg ha-1, 133.32 kg ha-1, and 66.66 kgha-1 plus 1.4 t ha-1 of calcium oxide); a control to which this fertilizer was not applied was used as a reference.The grain yield was measured, and leaf analysis and soil chemical analysis were conducted to evaluate the fertilizer efficiency and residual effect. The soil Zn content remained higherthan pre-experiment levels. Leaf analysis indicatedhigher absorption at the sites with high soil Zn content. The highest yield was obtained when applying 69.08 kg ha-1of micronutrient-containing fertilizer. The micronutrients Mn, Fe, Cu, and B exhibited no significant effect on corn yield, leaf nutrition, or soil residue. A utilização de micronutrientes via solo favorece o seu efeito residual diminuindo as aplicações no sistema plantio direto. O objetivo desse estudo foi determinar o efeito residual da aplicação, via solo, de fertilizantes contendo micronutrientes para cultura do milho cultivado em sistema plantio direto. O trabalho foi realizado a campo em Latossolo Vermelho, em Goiânia, Goiás. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. O fertilizante utilizado na pesquisa contém os micronutrientes Mn, Zn, Fe, Cu e B na forma de pó e foram aplicados em quatro doses (66,66 kg ha-1 mais 1,4 t ha-1 de óxido de cálcio, 33,33 kg ha-1, 66,66 kg ha-1, 133,32 kg ha-1) e tomou-se como referência a testemunha sem a aplicação desse fertilizante. A produtividade de grãos, a análise foliar e a análise química do solo foram realizadas para avaliar a eficiência e o residual do fertilizante. Os teores de Zn se mantiveram elevados no solo em relação aos teores antes da instalação do experimento. Com a análise foliar observou-se uma maior absorção nas parcelas com altos teores de Zn no solo. A maior produtividade foi obtida com a aplicação de 69,08 kg ha-1 do fertilizante contendo micronutrientes em relação à testemunha. Os micronutrientes Mn, Fe, Cu e B não mostraram efeito significativo na produtividade do milho, nutrição foliar e residual no solo.
