Abstract The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia remains alarmingly high, with West Kalimantan being one of the provinces with significant rates. One of the contributing factors is the limited parental knowledge of nutritional needs during pregnancy, compounded by the persistent practice of early marriage. This study aims to analyze the relationship between early marriage practices and stunting prevalence in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, while exploring the potential integration of a gender-sensitive curriculum as a preventive strategy. This qualitative study employs a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and participatory observations involving parents, school-aged adolescents, university students, and community leaders in Singkawang. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify patterns linking early marriage practices with stunting prevalence and to formulate key elements for a relevant gender-sensitive curriculum. The findings reveal that early marriage directly impacts stunting prevalence through the inadequate biological and psychological readiness of adolescent girls for pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, limited access to reproductive health and nutritional information exacerbates this risk. The study highlights the critical role of a gender-sensitive curriculum as a preventive intervention to enhance awareness among adolescents and parents about the impact of early marriage on stunting. This research contributes to the development of education-based strategies to reduce stunting prevalence, particularly through the implementation of gender-sensitive curricula in secondary schools. The study's implications include improving maternal and child health outcomes and supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health and education.. Salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah kurangnya pengetahuan orang tua mengenai kebutuhan gizi selama kehamilan, ditambah dengan masih maraknya praktik pernikahan usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara praktik pernikahan usia dini dan prevalensi stunting di Singkawang, Kalimantan Barat, serta mengeksplorasi potensi integrasi kurikulum berwawasan gender sebagai strategi pencegahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, diskusi kelompok terarah (FGD), dan observasi partisipatif yang melibatkan orang tua, remaja sekolah, mahasiswa, dan tokoh masyarakat di Singkawang. Analisis data dilakukan secara tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola hubungan antara praktik pernikahan usia dini dan prevalensi stunting, serta untuk merumuskan elemen-elemen utama kurikulum berwawasan gender yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pernikahan usia dini memiliki dampak langsung terhadap prevalensi stunting melalui mekanisme kurangnya kesiapan biologis dan psikologis remaja perempuan untuk hamil dan melahirkan. Selain itu, keterbatasan akses terhadap informasi kesehatan reproduksi dan gizi juga memperburuk risiko ini. Temuan ini mengindikasikan pentingnya kurikulum berwawasan gender sebagai intervensi preventif untuk meningkatkan kesadaran remaja dan orang tua mengenai dampak pernikahan usia dini terhadap stunting. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam pengembangan strategi berbasis pendidikan untuk menurunkan prevalensi stunting, khususnya melalui implementasi kurikulum berwawasan gender di sekolah menengah. Implikasi dari penelitian ini mencakup peningkatan kesehatan ibu dan anak serta pencapaian target Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) di bidang kesehatan dan pendidikan. Abstract Two shallow earthquakes of moment magnitude 6.2 and 5.8 occurred in the central arm of Sulawesi on 26 July 2021 and 26 August 2021, respectively. The fault responsible for the earthquake had previously only been partially mapped, thus making further analysis of its characteristics crucial for the assessment of seismic hazard. In this study, we exploit data from a regional seismic network, relocate the associated seismicity using the double difference method with an updated velocity model, determine focal mechanisms from full-waveform inversion, and analyze the static stress changes caused by the mainshock. Our relocated hypocenters and focal mechanism solutions reveal two earthquake clusters, one at the Central Balantak Fault that exhibits normal slip on a SE–NW trending rupture, and the other at the West Balantak Fault, which exhibits dextral strike-slip motion on a SE–NW trending rupture. The additional static stress increase transferred by the Mw 6.2 mainshock may have triggered the subsequent Mw 5.8 event. A detailed assessment of previously unmapped faults in Central Sulawesi is essential for a more comprehensive understanding of seismic hazard in the region.

AbstractThe significant factors influencing the perception of the public towards the “risk” concept are cultural values, social and traditional beliefs that form public views towards risk situations. Taking the cue from previous research on risk communication management in Asia, the present study discusses how administrative regional governments such as Surabaya City and the East Java Provincial authorities in Indonesia have conceptualized risk management. It pertains to how risk, particularly the COVID-19 vaccine, is assessed, regulated, and controlled in these places. Since communication and guidelines regarding the vaccine play an important role in any stage of risk management processes. This study thus aims to examine and analyze how risk communication management protocols and model have been understood through evidence-based and theory-informed research as an assessment form of the existing model and regulations. It also attempts to contribute to the risk-informed policymaking by the regional government and provides recommendations for the development of risk communication management and the preparation to manage the COVID-19 vaccine risk issues for the public, which has not been studied yet by scholars in this province and in Indonesia in general.

Biosecurity is a crucial issue in a globalised world as today. Biosecurity has become a serious concern for some countries to prevent the transfer of any infectious diseases across borders. Involving human bio-surveillance, biosecurity regulation is actually an attempt to build new spatial demarcations in the border areas of countries. In the context of Indonesia, the biosecurity policy so far has been initiated and applied for protecting Indonesian borders from infectious disease transferred from the mobility of people, including Indonesian migrant workers when they returned back to this country. However, some important issues and controversies remain in debate, especially around the political economy discourses of the Indonesian government. This research, thus, focuses on the risk of disease transmission among the Indonesian migrant workers, which could affected not only Indonesia, but also others particular countries and global people’s health. This study examines the case of biosecurity issue in the border Island of Indonesia, which is Tanjung Pinang situated in Riau Islands. Tanjung Pinang is an offshore bordered area bordering to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. This place is part of a major maritime traffics lane between its neighbouring countries. Tanjung Pinang is also one of departure harbours for the Indonesian migrant workers to Malaysia and Singapore. Upon interviewing with migrant workers, the government representatives, and the NGOs/agents who have involved with migrant workers’ travels, this research found that biosecurity policy of the Indonesian government has not been implemented consistently and firm to the standard of health protocols; whilst, the prevention of infectious desease carried from migrant workers overseas who returned home could be spread out and brought health risks for domestic communities. The health authority in border area, i.e. Tanjung Pinang, has provided screening rooms; yet, the screenings were implemented for some random workers and on the workers’ physical body.

Aktivitas Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI) telah menjadi fenomena sosial yang signifikan dalam beberapa dekade terakhir. Meningkatnya angka jumlah PMI di Indonesia tidak dibarengi dengan upaya persiapan yang matang terkait wawasan calon PMI terhadap mekanisme penempatan. Hasilnya, masih ditemukan beberapa PMI yang tidak berdokumen lengkap atau undocumented migrants. Tulisan ini adalah hasil kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat terkait wawasan mekanisme penempatan calon Pekerja Migran Indonesia di Kawasan Lombok Timur, Juni 2023. Pemilihan Lombok Timur sebagai lokasi pengabdian berdasarkan pada angka partisipasi PMI tertinggi kedua di Indonesia. Untuk memperkuat hasil pengabdian, penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan indepth interview dan Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dengan warga desa Pandan Wangi, Kecamatan Jerowaru, Kabupaten Lombok Timur dan perwakilan Lembaga Swadaya Masyarakat (LSM). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa calon PMI masih tertarik untuk berangkat tanpa dokumen lengkap, salah satunya karena kurangnya pengetahuan dan wawasan. Calon PMI tidak tergerak untuk mencari sumber-sumber informasi terkait prosedur pemberangkatan mereka ke negara penempatan. Selain itu juga banyak dari calon PMI yang hanya sekedar percaya terhadap lembaga atau biro pelayanan dan perjalanan pekerja migran yang mereka ikuti tanpa mencari tahu kredibilitas yang bersangkutan.

Latar belakang: Desa Soket Laok yang berada di Kabupaten Bangkalan, Madura merupakan salah satu desa potensial yang sayangnya masih berada dalam status tertinggal. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah kurang pemahaman para pamong dan pengelola desa dalam berbagai isu manajemen, salah satunya untuk menyusun rancangan pengembangan desa serta mengakses dana BUMDES. Rangkaian program pengabdian masyarakat telah dilaksanakan untuk membantu Desa Soket Laok oleh prodi Komunikasi UNAIR dan pada tahun 2022 fokus pengembangan diarahkan pada isu pengelolaan BUMDES oleh pamong desa. Tujuan: Tujuan dari program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman dan panduan bagi para pengelola desa agar dapat menyusun rancangan pengembangan desa melalui program BUMDES secara lebih terstruktur, rapi, dan efektif. Metode: Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan lewat tiga tahapan yaitu tahap perencanaan, eksekusi, dan evaluasi. Perencanaan dilakukan dengan rangkaian acara diskusi bersama pamong dan audiensi untuk menentukan isu utama. Ekseskusi program dijalankan dengan kegiatan sosialiasi di Desa Soket Laok. Tahap evaluasi melibatkan pembahasan mengenai dampak dan hasil program kepada para pamong desa. Hasil: Para pamong dan pengelola desa menjadi paham dan berani untuk mengajukan rancangan proposal pengembangan desawa lewat penagjuan dana BUMDES. Kesimpulan: Program pengabdian masyarakat di Desa Soket Laok mampu memberikan pemahaman pada pengelola dan pamong desa untuk menyusun program-program pengembangan desa. Background: BUMDES management is a crucial part of managing village development and independence. Therefore, the management system of village government organizations must begin to be addressed because of its crucial position in the preparation of plans for the establishment of the BUMDES program. The inability to develop organizational systems that understand managerial principles, data management, and communication strategies coupled with unpreparedness to adapt to the development of internet technology has the potential to cause the organization to lag behind in developing. Objective: The aim of this study is to increase the potential of Soket Laok Village, Bangkalan Madura Regency in the field of BUMDES management. Method: This community service was held at the Soket Laok Village Hall, Bangkalan Madura Regency. The material was delivered in a hybrid manner where there are speakers who directly invite participants to practice and online participants who provide material at the beginning. Results: The village officials and community leaders understand and are brave enough to formulate village development plans and have a better understanding of good communication patterns. Conclusion: The introduction and understanding of organizational communication for BUMDes (Village Owned Enterprises) which is the central organization of economic empowerment of rural communities is significant. With the FGD method directly with the BUMDes manager in Soket Laok village, Bangkalan Madura, and socialization of practical knowledge, understanding and management of the BUMDes organization, the optimization of the role of BUMDes in the Soket Laok village community will occur.

This research examines what ideologies Film Television (FTv) offered during the COVID-19 pandemic and how these ideologies developed in the FTv using framing analysis and a gender perspective approach. Results indicate that there are two hidden ideologies as follows. First, the FTv production house carries a patriarchal ideology by raising themes that discriminate against women through stereotypes against women that appear in the story. Second, the FTv production house carries the ideology of feminism, with themes that position women as superordinate. Women occupy a higher social class than men. Women determine their own lives; even women have power over men. Academically, these findings are expected to add to the theoretical study in the sociology of communication and media research on how the power of knowledge in FTv affects the audience and contributes information, and enriches the development of research on gender relations and violence.

Abstract Since the WHO declared the COVID-19 pandemic on December 1, 2019, the first group to be laid off were migrant workers. For migrant workers who are laid off one way is to return to their country of origin, including Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). For PMIs who work undocumented, they must be deported. PMI departed undocumented, mostly from Sampang, Madura, East Java. The number of PMI from Sampang who have been deported since COVID 19 took place was 886 people. To respond to this situation, research on improving the survival mechanism of the post-employee PMI in marketing the products of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the use of social media in the district of Sampang, Madura, East Java, contributes to their survival. This research method begins with conducting a Focus Group Discussion to map out the difficulties of post-employee PMI in marketing products so that they can find the right marketing solutions, especially through the use of social media. The FGD involved stakeholders among retired PMIs such as the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI), the industry office, BP2MI, the cooperative service, village heads, religious leaders from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and youth organizations. Furthermore, in-depth interviews and observations were carried out. The last stage is to analyze the data that correlates the data with the theory used in reviewing the survival mechanism, namely community empowerment. The result of the research is that the recycled handicraft products of garbage and chips, crackers and various types of food using mass media as a medium to disseminate local product marketing content will be optimized by residents, so that local residents get sufficient correct and useful information as a reference. One of the uses of PMI's post-duty mass media is making the Shopee application. They have learned to make products for social media, starting with compiling video scripts, designing marketing posters, and packaging. Shopee has various types of promo programs that buyers can enjoy, such as discount promos and free shipping. Thus, the retired PMI will be trained to produce and market their business as their survival mechanism. Bagi pekerja migran yang diberhentikan salah satu jalan kembali ke negara asal, termasuk Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI). Bagi PMI yang berkerja secara undocumented, mereka harus dideportasi. PMI berangkat secara undocumented, terbanyak adalah kabupaten Sampang Madura Jawa Timur. PMI asal Sampang yang dideportasi, sejak COVID 19 berlangsung sebesar 886 orang. Untuk merespon situasi ini maka penelitian peningkatan survival mechanism PMI purna tugas dalam memasarkan produk Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah (UMKM) melalui pemanfaatan media sosial di kabupaten Sampang Madura Jawa Timur memberikan kontribusi untuk kelangsungan hidup mereka. Metode penelitian ini diawali dengan melakukan Focus Group Discussion untuk memetakan kesulitan PMI purna tugas dalam memasarkan produk sehingga dapat menemukan solusi pemasaran yang tepat, terutama melalui pemanfaat media sosial. FGD melibatkan stakeholder dikalangan PMI purna tugas seperti Serikat Buruh Migran Indonesia (SBMI), dinas perindustrian, BP2MI, dinas koperasi, kepala desa, tokoh agama Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) dan karang taruna. Selanjutnya dilakukan indepth interview dan observasi. Tahap terakhir melakukan analisa data yang mengkorelasikan antara data dengan teori yang digunakan dalam mengkaji survival mechanism, yaitu pemberdayaan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian adalah produk kerajinan daur ulang sampah dan keripik, kerupuk serta berbagai jenis makanan dengan pemanfaatan media massa sebagai medium untuk menyebarkan konten pemasaran produk lokal akan dioptimalkan oleh warga, sehingga warga setempat mendapatkan kecukupan informasi yang benar dan bermanfaat sebagai rujukan. Pemanfaatan media massa PMI purna tugas salah satunya membuat aplikasi Shopee. Mereka sudah belajar membuat produk untuk media sosial yang dimulai dengan menyusun naskah video, desain poster pemasaran, dan packaging. Shopee mempunyai berbagai jenis program promo yang dapat dinikmati oleh para pembeli, seperti promo potongan dan gratis ongkir. Dengan demikian, PMI purna tugas akan terlatih untuk memproduk dan memasarkan usaha mereka sebagai survival mechanism mereka. Abstract The large number of sending migrant workers abroad indicates that the problem of migrant workers in East Java is of course very complex. One of them related to the problem is the children of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). The problems that arise are vulnerable to the influence of criminality such as brawls, drugs, free sex and pregnancy before marriage. This is why special attention needs to be paid to children whose parents have left them as Indonesian migrant workers (BMI). To respond to this situation, this research is very important with the problems faced by children of migrant workers (APM). Therefore, this study identifies problems faced by children who are abandoned by migrant worker parents, as well as programs that have been developed in Purwodadi village, Donomulyo sub-district, Malang district, one of which is the development of short film production for APM as a vehicle for creativity. and means of communication with parents abroad. The next part of this research is in-depth interviews and observations, whether so far the making of short films can be accessed openly by APM until now. The next stage is to analyze the data that connects the data with the theory used in assessing the responsibilities of surrogate parents, the community and the government in providing protection for children's basic rights in the form of making short films. APM who are members of the community, have collected APM's perception and creativity in terms of survival and child development. For this reason, the production of short films is a collaborative governance program between Non-Governmental Organizations, namely LPKP, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), parents as PMI, APM and village government in this case posyandu cadres. Salah satunya terkait permasalahannya adalah anak pekerja migran indonesia (PMI). Permasalahan yang muncul adalah rentan terhadap pengaruh kriminalitas seperti tawuran, narkoba, seks bebas dan hamil sebelum menikah. Hal inilah perlu adanya perhatian khusus terhadap anak-anak yang ditinggal orang tuanya sebagai buruh migran Indonesia (BMI). Untuk merespon situasi ini maka penelitian ini sangat penting dengan masalah yang dihadapi oleh anak-anak pekerja migran (APM). Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi masalah yang dihadapi anak-anak yang ditinggalkan oleh orang tua pekerja migran, serta program-program yang sudah dikembangkan di desa Purwodadi, kecamatan Donomulyo, kabupaten Malang, yang salah satunya pengembangan produksi film pendek bagi APM sebagai wahana kreativitas dan sarana komunikasi dengan orang tua di luar negeri. Bagian selanjutnya dari penelitian ini adalah indepth interview dan observasi, apakah selama ini pembuatan film pendek bisa diakses secara terbuka oleh APM hingga saat ini. Tahap selanjutnya melakukan analisa data yang menghubungkan antara data dengan teori yang digunakan dalam mengkaji pertanggungjawaban orang tua pengganti, masyarakat dan pemerintah dalam memberikan perlindungan terhadap hak-hak dasar anak dalam bentuk pembuatan produksi film pendek. APM yang tergabung dalam komunitas, telah menghimpun persepsi dan kreativitas APM dalam hal kelangsungan hidup dan tumbuh kembang anak. Untuk itu pembuatan produksi film pendek merupakan program collaborative governance antara Lembaga Swadaya Masyarakat yaitu LPKP, International Labour Organisation (ILO) dan United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), orang tua sebagai PMI, APM dengan pemerintahan desa dalam hal ini kader posyandu. Social communication networks created during the 2018 earthquake sequence in Lombok, Indonesia using social network data from a social media platform, i.e., Facebook, and surveys in local communities were analyzed. The different modes of communication networks used during the disaster event and post-disaster mitigation were examined. Data on social media platform usage were collected from the Facebook page of the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of Indonesia and the National Board for Disaster Management of Indonesia. The data show large clusters of social relation networks based on dominant issues discussed by the public under several trending hashtags. Meanwhile, the local patterns of social communication networks, particularly the flow of information and communication used by the local communities of the impacted villages in Lombok, differ depending on the culture of communication and time of accessing information. During the 2018 Lombok earthquake sequence, communication was predominantly sought from community leaders, religious leaders, family members, and neighbours. This study highlights the implementation of a decentralization system in Indonesia, which has given the local and regional authorities a significant role in disaster management, response, and emergency command for the local and regional community, instead of relying largely on the response of the central Jakarta government.

Background: Unorganized population administration information system is the major problem in village administrations, including in Soket Laok Village, Bangkalan Regency. This unorganized system has impact on poor population and village economic potential data. This evidence becomes a major obstacle to improve community welfare and creates a significant setback in attempt to distribute any kind of assistance from the higher government. Therefore, it is necessary to organize a population administration system based on simple information technology and to improve the skills of village officials in fixing the population administration system. Purpose: To manage the village population administration system using simple information technology and to improve the skills of village officials in handling the population administration system. Methods: the method used in this program was a simple application of a population administration system based on Memento's digital app, which became the main focus in subsequent training session. The training was conducted in a form of webinars through the Zoom app and simple tutorials via YouTube. Results: the result of this activity is the availability of a population data collection system using the Memento application, a simple application that can be operated by village officials with a smartphone without an internet network in accordance with the conditions of Soket Laok Village which has not been evenly reached by the internet network. Another result is the increased skills of village officials in collecting population data using the Memento application. Conclusion: In this activity, village officials can have the skills to manage the village population administration system.

Health workers play a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in the health facilities but also as a reference in the media. This role arises from the health workers’ accounts on social media amplified by the mass media and public discourse. This study aims to examine the narratives of doctors’ accounts on social media, responding to the emergency period of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This study maps and analyzes the narratives of the 10 (ten) doctors’ Twitter accounts in Indonesia during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) period from 3 July - 23 August 2021 through qualitative content analysis methods. The spread of the Delta variant virus and a significant increase in active cases, death, and bed occupancy rates were recorded during this period. The study shows that each doctor has a different narrative, with the main issues: vaccination, health protocols, health facilities, case data, and government policies related to the pandemic. Some doctors’ narratives are also a form of public pressure on government policies. This study also notes the phenomenon of “twitting to the press” by the mass media because of social restriction. Tak hanya menjadi garda depan dalam memutus mata rantai penyebaran virus, namun juga menjadi rujukan informasi bagi masyarakat melalui kemunculannya di media. Peran ini muncul dari keaktifan tenaga medis di media sosial yang diamplifikasi oleh media massa dan kemudian menjadi wacana publik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat narasi para dokter di sosial media, menyikapi masa darurat pandemic Covid-19 di Indonesia. Penelitian ini memetakan dan menganalisis narasi 10 akun Twitter dokter terpopuler di Indonesia selama periode Pemberlakuan Pembatasan Kegiatan Masyarakat (PPKM) Darurat dari 3 Juli - 23 Agustus 2021 melalui metode analisis isi kualitatif. Periode ini ditandai persebaran virus varian Delta dan kenaikan signifikan jumlah kasus aktif, angka kematian, dan tingkat keterisian tenpat tidur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan setiap dokter memiliki narasi yang berbeda dalam merespons kebijakan penanganan COVID-19 di media sosial, dengan isu utama meliputi vaksinasi, penerapan protokol kesehatan, fasilitas kesehatan, data kasus, serta pejabat dan kebijakan pemerintah terkait pandemi. Narasi para dokter juga menjadi bentuk tekanan publik kepada kebijakan pemerintah pemerintah. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mencatat adanya fenomena penerapan twitting to the press oleh media massa sebagai imbas penerapan kebijakan pembatasan sosial. Families in earthquake-prone areas are vulnerable, the earthquake affecting their quality of life. Earthquakes also disrupt the distribution of welfare, even the fulfillment of basic family needs. In this study, we analyze the critical points of earthquake relief for housing construction assistance following earthquake sequence in Lombok, Indonesia, including the changes and the influence of resilience, i.e., economic, social, and psychological, towards the subjective well-being of the family following the Lombok earthquake sequence of July-August 2018. Using primary data collection in Lombok through a family survey questionnaire at 6 months after the earthquake, we found that there was a sharp increase in poverty and a sharp decrease of income in the first month after the disaster, which returned gradually through to the sixth month. The same pattern occurs in family resilience in terms of economic, social, and psychological aspects. We also found that changes in family security, i.e., economic, social and psychological, have a negative effect on their subjective well-being. This study highlights three critical points in rebuilding disaster victims' houses following Mw 6.4-6.9 Lombok earthquake sequence of July–August 2018. First, the decision regarding the absence of temporary shelter. Second, the statement that housing assistance funds may be used for small family businesses. Third, the validity of the damaged housing data and the choice of house type.

Youth in democratic activities has changed the political scenario of Pakistan. The current study was aimed to identify the youngsters towards their participation in democratic paractices and political activities. The novelity of presnt study is to introduce a new theory of ‘Youth-Inn’ which indicated the continuous youth participation and involvement in community problem solving, peers motivation, influence public to do vote, and other political matters. The phenomena of this study are based on the present political scenario of Pakistan and youth participation in building the political structure. The study was quantitative in nature and data were collected through random sampling techniques, hundreds of respondents participated from two provinces of Pakistan, which are Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The objective of the study is to highlight the performance of youth activities, contribution to the political participation, their role in political parties and interests in political and social matters. The findings of the study suggest that youth in Pakistan are increasingly participating in democratic, social and political activities, which are their basic and core responsibility to take apart and do sufficient steps for the country.

This research analyses and describes in detail how the digital biennale activities that are a part of the Indonesian Digital art community has become a form of criticism and silent resistance to the social hegemony. It refers to the ideology, norms, rules, and myths that exist in modern society in Indonesia, especially the reproduction of hoax content. Hoax refers to the logic people who live in a world of cyber media with all of its social implications. This phenomenon is a problem, and it is at the heart of the exploration of the art community in East Java Biennale. The critical social theory perspective of Gramsci’s theory forms the basis of this research analysis. The qualitative research approach used a digital ethnomethodology research method focused on the online and offline social movements in the Biennale Art Community. The data collection techniques used were observation and non-active participation in the process of reproduction-related to the exhibition of Indonesian Biennale digital artworks. It was then analyzed using Gramsci’s hegemony theory. The purpose of this study was to describe the process of social movements in a digital format conducted by the Indonesian Biennale when reproducing works of art to counteract the dominance and hegemony of the Hoax phenomenon in Indonesia. The benefit of this research was that it obtained a preposition of Gramsci’s hegemony theory in the world of digital art as created by contemporary Indonesian Biennale artists. Digital technology has had a tremendous effect on the media industry, government, trade, informal industry sector, human resources, urban planning, services, disaster relief, health, education, religion, artistic and cultural expression, in addition to various other fields. The conclusion obtained from this research is that there is a formation of a new hegemony, a digital hegemony. This new hegemony is of particular concern for the digital artists in East Java Biennale. Through the digital format works, the artists also try to communicate their art as a form of silent resistance, protest, and criticism of the hegemony that occurs in society, referring to the ideology, norms, and myths. It can be called a digital counter-hegemony.s

The democratic era has promoted transparency, public participation, and open access on public information, therefore, public relations is considered an integral part of the democratic process. The study is not only about genders representation, but also the outcome of involving genders and their competence in managerial positions. This study aims to portray the outcome of employing male and female and their competency in managing government public relations in Indonesia. An online survey on 102 public relations practitioners from various government institutions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and univariate formula. The research reveals that government public relations have applied two-way communication models and resulted in an excellent outcome on Indonesian democratization. The findings affirm that the emerging democracy has encouraged effective practices and challenge public information, the previous model that government institutions provided. Results show different outcomes on two-way communication when male or female manages the model. On the managerial level, the female practitioners have proper competence implement the model at a higher level than males. Since gender issue in government public relations practices has been little investigated, this study recommends the Indonesian governments to provide more opportunities for female practitioners as part of the top management in public relations divisions. The government needs to change its mind-set that gender issue takes into account not only representativeness but also their competence.

This research explores and interprets léncak as one of the treasures of the treasures of the ancestors' heritage and can be produced from generation to generation. The wealth stored on the island of Madura, both in the form of views, ethics, culture and wealth of objects containing social values and meanings for the religious life of the Madurese community, especially for female religious leaders of Madura. One of these objects was named léncak, because it was on this level that the female religious leaders spent a lot of time formulating the problems of their people, thus becoming intermediaries to the public space. This study uses a phenomenological approach, because it wants to reveal the social significance of the one used by religious leaders of Madurese women in carrying out their religious social roles. This research found that it must be a meaningful, inspirational, facilitative space for the continuation of religious negotiations as well as opening the public space for female religious leaders with their communities

The adaptation of the use of communication technology towards media convergence (mediamorphosis) makes it a necessity for radio to change. Jodhipati FM, a commercial radio station in Nganjuk Regency which declared its identity as a Javanese cultural radio station, has also made the change. The uniqueness of Jodhipati FM to broadcast 100% Javanese cultural programs originated from the demands of listeners to listen to the wayang kulit (leather puppet) program. The close interaction and relationships between the listeners and radio management has made every change in Jodhipati FM driven by the interests of the listeners. This qualitative research collected data through a virtual ethnography supplemented by participant observation and in-depth interviews with nine informants. The results found there to be a mediamorphosis pattern that explains the stages of Jodhipati FM’s change and the influence of the listeners’ demands, from the early history of its establishment through to the present. At present, Jodhipati FM uses Facebook, streaming and WhatsApp as broadcast support. In interactive engagement between the listeners and radio management in the virtual world, both parties have an equal role as media producers. In the life of a networked society, the listener experiences a shift in role and characteristics. Apart from acting as the media producer, the radio listeners are involved in programming, they are free to criticize and they are also free to look for sponsors and advertisements. The characteristics of the listener have also changed. They become physically visible, their voices are heard, their personalities are revealed, they live in various social networks, age restrictions disappear, there are no territorial boundaries and there are no time limits. As a cultural radio station, Jodhipati FM has the advantage of being able to preserve and spread Javanese culture throughout the world.

Digitalization in the modern era has provided opportunities for the youths to participate in this information and social spheres. The concentrated use of social media has contributed to the astonishing factor among the voters where social media has changed the preferences of youths toward the right to vote. The research aims to investigate the contributions and preferences of youths toward political participation in the contemporary discussion in Indonesia. This research was quantitative research using a purposive random sampling technique to give equal opportunity to each respondent. The mode of data collection was an online survey. The majority of the respondents in this research were the student of the universities. Data were collected in April 2019 to examine the interest of youths in general elections in Indonesia. This research found that social media and Social Networking Sites (SNSs) have provided a unique platform to discuss political matters and ‘take apart’ in political discussions. Existing in-depth researches on this phenomenon show that political awareness among youths in Indonesia is an essential part and social media is the leading indicator. This research suggested some recommendations for to usage of social media for the socialization of youths.

This paper examines the roles and position of female religious leaders in Madura Island, known as Nyai. Nyais are female religious leaders and are highly respected by the rural communities for not only being someone who is master in Islamic teachings, and her dakwah (outreach), but also being influential amongst the communities. Yet, the role and position of nyai in a patriarchal society of Madura are crucial in the sense that their dakwah and teachings have gradually become doctrine for female communities in the male-dominated environment. Particular nyais have demonstrated their determination in identity contestation and playing their agency role for their communities. Their popularity and growing followers have become a serious concern and criticism of some male religious leaders (known as kyai) in the Island. An ethnography study applied to observe the daily life of two female nyais in two regional districts of Madura, they are Nyai Sitti of Sampang and Nyai Dausy of Sumenep, and found that in the context of nyai’s hierarchy in Madura, these two nyais have built what have created authority and represented their leadership positions on their social class. They are the central figures, where their popularity are shaped by their charisma, genealogy, and people’s power. Indeed, they have reached the position of ‘nyai rajheh’ (great leader), which is a leading influential figure, especially for women in contemporary Madura Island.

The conflict between the Muslim Sunni and Shia, hereafter Sunni-Shia conflict, occurred in Sampang on August 2012 was recognised as a group identity conflict. The existence of Muslim Shia community as minority amongst the Sunni majority in Madura has long become the latent intra-faith clash in this Island. This study explores the socio-cultural and political aspects of Sunni-Shia conflict in Sampang District of Madura and examines the views of these two communities about their religius stance, values, and socio-cultural practices in their places, and how they have perceived other religius group identity regarded as distinct to each other. Methods applied for this study are qualitative survey using two approaches i.e. socio-cultural historic and inter-cultural communication. The data were gathered through depth interviews, observations, and secondary documentations sourced from media news and articles, government policy and relevant literatures. This study found that the root of the conflict was begun from the familial (brotherhood) clash, which then extended into the clash between Sunni and Shia communities and the issue of religius ideology and identity. The difference on their opinion, perception, and attitude of the Sunni and Shia groups have become the key issues of these two groups to fight their religius identities interest and their beief upon the true of Islam according to their version. As a result, their intra-religius life and communication between these two groups have become paralised and stucked.

This paper is an attempt to investigate a new trend of media behaviour and to study an aspect of the non-journalistic practice of the media organization in the society in post-authoritarian Indonesia. It discusses the engagement of a major local media institution in the organization of the Surabaya Art Festival in the early 2000s. The involvement of one wealthy media institution, Jawa Pos, in the organization of Surabaya’s cultural art festival, therefore, could shape a new model of relationship between the media and the society in the Indonesian context. Based on interviews with several existing and ex-members of the festival committees and media documentations, this study argues that the political economy of the media interest has played a major role in determining the contents and management of the festival, disregarding the need to exhibit the remarkable cultural richness and innovations. In this particular cultural event, the media has played a significant role in supplying the funding for the festival, and consequently, the media control the power in conceptualising the city’s annual art festival since then. Yet, when the owner of the media institution chose to stop supporting the funding to the festival organization, the result was palpable. After the withdrawal of this major media magnate from the festival organization, the continuation of the Surabaya Art Festival has become troublesome and susceptible.

Social networks have a wider influence on youth political participation, providing the opportunity to remain actively engaged in socio-political issues aiming for good governance in Indonesia. The study highlights the pertinent role of social networks, social ties, and trends in increasing participation among youngsters in Indonesia’s political spheres. The study uses quantitative research to gather data from university students. Social networks indeed have a significant influence created a more engaged and informed generation of youth using social networks to voice their opinions and participate in political activities. The findings show that youth integrate with others through social networks to participate in politics, and this participation has increased political efficacy. Furthermore, a democratic society is a unit that provides network ties for youth-enhancing involvement in political activities. However, it is important to note that social networks alone are insufficient to ensure good governance in Indonesia. Ultimately, online and offline engagement is needed to create a truly participatory and inclusive democracy in Indonesia.
