This study is based on the principle that vegetation indexes (VIs), derived from the RGB color model obtained from digital images, can be used to characterize spectral signatures and classify Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés according to nitrogen status (N). From colorimetric data obtained from leaf blade images acquired in the field, three artificial neural networks were evaluated according to the performance in the classification of N status: Feedforward Backpropagation (FFBP), Cascade Forward Backpropagation (CFBP) and Radial Base function (RBFNN). Four N fertilization rates were applied to generate contrasting N contents in the plants. The youngest completely expanded leaves from 60 tillers were detached at each regrowth cycle of 28 days, thus their images and leaf N content were obtained. Samples were then classified as deficient (>17 g N kg-1 leaf dry matter (DM), moderately deficient (from 17.1 to 20.0 g N kg-1 DM), and sufficient (> 20.1 g N kg-1 DM). The VIs were selected by principal component analysis and the performance of the networks evaluated by the accuracy. The accuracy in classification obtained by the networks were 88%, 86% and 79% for FFBP, CFBP and RBFNN, respectively, indicating that the spectral signatures can be determined from images acquired in the field. So, the proposed method could be used to develop a software that aims to monitor the status of N in real time, providing a fast and inexpensive tool for defining the time and the amount of N fertilizer, according to the pasture demand. RESUMO Este estudo baseia-se no princípio de que índices de vegetação (IVs), derivados do modelo de cores RGB obtidos de imagens digitais, podem ser usados para caracterizar assinaturas espectrais e classificar pastos de Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés segundo o status de nitrogênio (N). A partir de dados colorimétricos obtidos de imagens de lâminas foliares adquiridas em campo, três redes neurais artificiais foram avaliadas quanto ao desempenho na classificação do status N: Feedforward Backpropagation (FFBP), Cascade Forward Backpropagation (CFBP) e função de Base Radial (RBFNN). Quatro taxa s de fertilização nitrogenada foram aplicadas para gerar contrastes no teor de N nos tecidos das plantas. As folhas mais jovens completamente expandidas de 60 perfilhos foram destacadas das plantas a cada ciclo de rebrotação de 28 dias, sendo as imagens das folhas e teor de N foliar determinados. As amostras foram classificadas em deficientes (> 17 g N kg-1 de matéria seca (MS)), moderadamente deficientes (de 17,1 a 20,0 g N kg-1 MS) e suficiente (> 20,1 g N kg-1 MS). Os IVs foram selecionados pela análise de componentes principais e o desempenho das redes avaliados pela acurácia. As acurácias nas classificações obtidas pelas redes foram de 88%, 86% e 79% para FFBP, CFBP e RBFNN, respectivamente, indicando que as assinaturas espectrais podem ser determinadas a partir de imagens adquiridas em campo. Assim, o método proposto pode ser utilizado para desenvolver um software de monitoramento do status de N em tempo real, fornecendo uma ferramenta rápida e econômica para definir o momento e quantidade de fertilizantes nitrogenados, conforme demanda da pastagem.

Multitrait models can increase the accuracy of breeding value prediction and reduce bias due to selection by using traits measured before and after it has occurred. However, as the number of traits grows, a similar trend is expected for the number of parameters to be estimated, which directly affects the computing power and the amount of data required. The aim of the present study was to apply reduced rank (principal components model-PCM) and factor analytical models (FAM), to estimate (co)variance components for nineteen traits, jointly evaluated in a single analysis in Campolina horses. A total of 18 morphometric traits (MT) and one gait visual score (GtS), along with genealogical records of 48,806 horses, were analysed under a restricted maximum likelihood framework. Nine PCM, nine FAM and one standard multitrait model (MTM) were fitted to the data and compared to find the best suitable model. Based on Bayesian information criterion, the best model was the FAM option, considering five common factors (FAM5). After performing an intraclass analysis, none of MT were genetically negatively correlated, whereas GtS was negatively related to all MT, except for the genetic correlations among GtS and BLL, and between GtS and BLLBL (0.01 and 0.10 respectively). From all MT, two traits were derived computing ratios involving other traits, those had negative correlations with others MT, but all favourable for selection. Similar patterns were observed between the genetic parameters obtained from MTM and FAM5 respectively. The heritability estimates ranged from 0.09 (head width) to 0.47 (height at withers). Our results indicated that FAM was efficient to reduce the multitrait analysis dimensionality, and therefore, traits can be combined based on the first three eigenvectors from the additive genetic (co)variance matrix. In addition, there was sufficient genetic variation for selection, benefiting its potential implementation in a breeding program.

In the current study we have performed two experiments to evaluate the effects of adipogenic induction media on dedifferentiated fat (DFAT) cells redifferentiation into mature adipocytes. In experiment 1, we aimed to evaluate whether it is necessary to use insulin in the induction media to allow DFAT cells differentiation into mature adipocytes by establishing two experimental treatments where insulin was either withdrawn from the culture medium, after 72 h of a normal induction period (Treatment 1: Insulin - ) or kept in culture media (Treatment 2: Insulin + ) for 16 d. In experiment 2, we aimed to evaluate if the lack of 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX) in the induction medium would affect the differentiation of DFAT cells into mature adipocytes. For that, DFAT cells were induced to differentiate into lipid assimilating adipocytes using an induction medium containing IBMX (Treatment 1: IBMX + ) or without IBMX (Treatment 2: IBMX - ) during the first 72 h of induction. In both experiments we have evaluated the mRNA expression of lipid metabolism markers and cell morphology through Oil-Red staining as indicators of differentiation of DFAT cells into lipid-assimilating cells. The results of Experiment 1 revealed no differences in mRNA expression for any of the lipid metabolism markers with exception of GLUT4 ( P =0.02), which was greater in Insulin - compared to Insulin + treatment. Similarly, no differences were observed for mRNA expression of adipogenic markers between IBMX + and IBMX - treatments with exception of FABP4 ( P =0.01), which was greater for the IBMX - compared to IBMX + treatment. In both experiments we did not observed any differences in cell morphology among treatments. Our results suggest that neither insulin nor IBMX are required to accelerate redifferentiation process of pig-derived DFAT cells.

Contents Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common clinical condition in domestic cats, characterized by tubulointerstitial, vascular and glomerular inflammation and severe fibrosis. Studies in rodent model of induced CKD have shown a decrease and stabilization of the clinical condition. In this study was evaluated the safety and effect of intrarenal and intravenous infusion of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (AMSCs) derived from feline amniotic membrane in cats with naturally occurring CKD. Cat AMSCs were harvested after mechanical and enzymatic digestion of amnion. A healthy cat received intrarenal injection of AMSCs guided by ultrasound in both kidneys (5 × 105 cells/kidney). Nine cats with CDK received repeated intravenous infusions of AMSCs (2 × 106 cells × 2 treatments). The clinical parameters of healthy cat did not change, but sedation and general anaesthesia was required. The number of interventions stressed the animal, and he developed transient haematuria after AMSC injection. Cats with CDK registered a significant improvement of renal function (decrease in serum creatinine and urine protein concentrations and increase in urine specific gravity). The kidney architecture and morphology did not change following the treatment. The feline AMSCs have a renoprotective effect and improve renal function in cats with naturally occurring CKD, stabilizing the clinical condition and disease progression. Thus, intravenous injection of AMSCs may be an important tool to provide welfare in cats with chronic kidney disease.

Repeated measures from the same individual have been analyzed by using repeatability and finite dimension models under univariate or multivariate analyses. However, in the last decade, the use of random regression models for genetic studies with longitudinal data have become more common. Thus, the aim of this research was to estimate genetic parameters for body weight of four experimental chicken lines by using univariate random regression models. Body weight data from hatching to 84 days of age (n = 34,730) from four experimental free-range chicken lines (7P, Caipirão da ESALQ, Caipirinha da ESALQ and Carijó Barbado) were used. The analysis model included the fixed effects of contemporary group (gender and rearing system), fixed regression coefficients for age at measurement, and random regression coefficients for permanent environmental effects and additive genetic effects. Heterogeneous variances for residual effects were considered, and one residual variance was assigned for each of six subclasses of age at measurement. Random regression curves were modeled by using Legendre polynomials of the second and third orders, with the best model chosen based on the Akaike Information Criterion, Bayesian Information Criterion, and restricted maximum likelihood. Multivariate analyses under the same animal mixed model were also performed for the validation of the random regression models. The Legendre polynomials of second order were better for describing the growth curves of the lines studied. Moderate to high heritabilities (h(2) = 0.15 to 0.98) were estimated for body weight between one and 84 days of age, suggesting that selection for body weight at all ages can be used as a selection criteria. Genetic correlations among body weight records obtained through multivariate analyses ranged from 0.18 to 0.96, 0.12 to 0.89, 0.06 to 0.96, and 0.28 to 0.96 in 7P, Caipirão da ESALQ, Caipirinha da ESALQ, and Carijó Barbado chicken lines, respectively. Results indicate that genetic gain for body weight can be achieved by selection. Also, selection for body weight at 42 days of age can be maintained as a selection criterion.

The aim of this study was to identify genomic regions that associated with beef tenderness in Nellore cattle. Phenotypes were obtained according to the standard USDA Quality Grade (1999). Data from 909 genotyped Nellore bulls were used in the Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) undertaken using a single-step approach including also a pedigree file composed of 6276 animals. The analyses were performed using the Blupf90 software, estimating the effect of genomic windows of 10 consecutive markers. The GWAS results identified 18 genomic regions located on 14 different chromosomes (1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26 and 29), which explained more than 1% of the total additive genetic variance; several candidate genes were located in these regions including SLC2A9, FRAS1, ANXA3, FAM219A, DNAI, AVEN, SHISA7, UBE2S, CDC42EP5, CNTN3, C16orf96, UBALD1, MGRN1 and SNORA1 With the single-step GWAS, it was possible to identify regions and genes related to meat tenderness in Nellore beef cattle.

The deterpenation of bergamot essential oil can be performed by liquid−liquid extraction using hydrous ethanol as the solvent. A ternary mixture composed of 1-methyl-4-prop-1-en-2-yl-cyclohexene (limonene), 3,7-dimethylocta-1,6-dien-3-yl-acetate (linalyl acetate), and 3,7-dimethylocta-1,6-dien-3-ol (linalool), three major compounds commonly found in bergamot oil, was used to simulate this essential oil. Liquid−liquid equilibrium data were experimentally determined for systems containing essential oil compounds, ethanol, and water at 298.2 K and are reported in this paper. The experimental data were correlated using the NRTL and UNIQUAC models, and the mean deviations between calculated and experimental data were lower than 0.0062 in all systems, indicating the good descriptive quality of the molecular models. Para verificar o efeito da inclusão das interações reprodutor x rebanho e reprodutor x rebanho-ano como fator de ajustamento da heterogeneidade de variância, registros de produção de leite e gordura foram estratificados, com base no desvio-padrão fenotípico da produção de leite ajustada, em duas classes: baixo (1.280kg) desvio-padrão. Três modelos foram utilizados, sem e com interação reprodutor x rebanho e reprodutor x rebanho-ano, em análises de característica única, geral e em cada classe de desvio-padrão. Médias e componentes de variâncias foram maiores na classe de alto desvio-padrão. Na classe de baixo desvio-padrão, a herdabilidade não se alterou com a inclusão dos efeitos de interação no modelo, sendo de 0,34 para produção de leite e de 0,32 para produção de gordura. Na classe de alto desvio-padrão, as herdabilidades foram: 0,37, 0,35 e 0,36, e de 0,35, 0,32 e 0,35, para produção de leite e gordura, nos modelos sem, com interação reprodutor x rebanho e com interação reprodutor x rebanho-ano, respectivamente. Com o objetivo de determinar a exigência de lisina digestível para poedeiras semipesadas no período de 50 a 66 semanas de idade, foi realizado experimento utilizando-se 150 poedeiras Shaver Brown, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos (níveis de lisina digestível: 0,79; 0,82; 0,85; 0,88 e 0,91%), seis repetições e cinco aves por unidade experimental. Foram avaliados a produção de ovos, peso médio e a massa de ovos, consumo de ração e de lisina, conversão alimentar por massa e por dúzia de ovos, gravidade específica, unidade Haugh, o índice de gema e albúmen, porcentagem de albúmen, gema e casca. O consumo de ração, a conversão alimentar por massa e dúzia de ovos, a produção, o peso e a massa de ovos não foram influenciados (P>0,05) pelos níveis de lisina digestível. Houve aumento linear no consumo de lisina (P0,05) pelos níveis de lisina digestível estudados. Os níveis de lisina influenciaram de forma quadrática (P>0,05) a unidade Haugh e o índice de albúmen, sendo estimados os níveis de 0,884 e 0,868% de lisina digestível, respectivamente. Para o índice de gema, a associação do modelo quadrático ao Linear Response Plateau (LRP) estimou o nível de 0,903% de lisina digestível. Quando o objetivo é maximizar a qualidade interna dos ovos, recomenda-se o nível dietético de 0,884%, 0,868% e 0,903% de lisina digestível para unidade Haugh, índice de albúmen e índice de gema, respectivamente. ABSTRACT With the objective of determining the requirement of digestible lysine for brown-egg laying hens in the period from 50 to 66 weeks of age, an experiment was carried out using 150 Shaver Brown laying hens, distributed in a completely randomized design, with five treatments (digestible lysine levels: 0.79, 0.82, 0.85, 0.88 and 0.91%), six replications and five birds per experimental unit. The production of eggs, weight and the egg mass, feed intake and lysine, feed mass and dozen eggs, specific gravity, Haugh unit, yolk and albumen index, percentage of albumen, yolk and bark were analyzed. Feed intake, feed conversion per dozen of eggs s and per egg mass, egg production, egg weight and egg mass were not influenced (P>0.05) by digestible lysine levels. There was a linear increase in lysine intake (P0.05) by studied digestible lysine levels. Lysine levels had a quadratic effect (P>0.05) Haugh unit and albumen index being estimated as 0.884 and 0.868% digestible lysine levels, respectively. For yolk index, the association of the quadratic model to Linear Response Plateau (LRP) estimated the level of 0.903% digestible lysine. When the aim is to maximize the internal egg quality, a dietary level of 0.884%, 0.868% and 0.903% digestible lysine for Haugh unit, albumen index and yolk index, respectively is recommended.

In the genetic evaluation of composite cattle or multiracial populations, the additive and non-additive genetic effects need to be estimated given their importance in developing strategies for crossing. However, multicollinearity, defined as the presence of strong linear correlations between the explanatory variables, is an obstacle to obtaining these estimates, since it produces unstable regression coefficients with large standard errors when the least square method is used, leading to erroneous inferences. Thus, the objective of this study was to detect possible collinearity involving the covariates of genetic effects, to assess them by the ridge regression (RR) method, and to compare results with estimates obtained by the least squares (LS) method. Weaning weight data of composite Montana Tropical bovine born between 1994 and 2008 were used. Some covariates from the model were involved in two strong and three weak collinearities. The RR method was used as an alternative to the LS method and showed better results. After using RR, the average variance inflation factors reduced from 16 to 5.3 and yielded more accurate estimates, with smaller standard errors than those obtained by the LS.

Dados de bovinos compostos foram analisados para avaliar o efeito da epistasia nos modelos de avaliação genética. As características analisadas foram os pesos aos 205 (P205) e 390 dias (P390) e perímetro escrotal aos 390 dias (PE390). As análises foram realizadas pela metodologia de máxima verossimilhança considerando-se dois modelos: o modelo 1 incluiu como covariáveis os efeitos aditivos diretos e maternos, e os não aditivos das heterozigoses para os efeitos diretos e para o materno total, e o modelo 2 considerou também o efeito direto de epistasia. Para comparação dos modelos, foram utilizados o critério de informação de Akaike (AIC) e o critério de informação Bayesiano de Schwartz (BIC), e o teste de razão de verossimilhança. A inclusão da epistasia no modelo de avaliação genética pouco alterou as estimativas de componentes de (co)variâncias genéticas aditivas e, consequentemente, as herdabilidades. O teste de verossimilhança e o critério de Akaike sugeriram que o modelo 2, que inclui a epistasia, apresentou maior aderência aos dados para todas as características analisadas. O critério BIC indicou este modelo como o melhor apenas para P205. Para análise genética dessa população, o modelo que considerou o efeito de epistasia foi o mais adequado. Composite bovine data was analyzed with the objective of evaluating the effect of the epistasis parameter in the models of genetic evaluation. The analyzed characteristics were weight at 205 (W205) and 390 days (P390), and scrotal circumference at 390 days (SC390). The analysis were done by the maximum likelihood method, considering two models: model 1, which included as covariates the direct and maternal additive effects, and non-additive of the heterozygosis for the direct and total maternal, and model 2, which also considered the direct epistasis direct. The Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) and the Bayesiano of Schwartz Information Criteria (BIC) were used for the comparison of the models and the test of ratio of likelihood. The inclusion of the epistasis effects on the model of the genetic evaluation did not alter much the estimation of the genetic additive (co)variances components and, consequently the heritability. However, it was significantly superior by the likelihood ratio test for the studied characteristics. Through the BIC, model 2 was more adequate only for W205. For the genetic analysis of that population the model that considers the epitasis is the more adequate.

Avaliaram-se os efeitos do extrato de maracujá veiculado na dieta (0, 50, 100 e 200mg kg-1) sobre o consumo de alimento, o ganho em peso e os níveis de glicose e cortisol plasmático de juvenis de tilápias do Nilo (87,0±6,6g). Registros de produção de leite e de gordura foram utilizados com o objetivo de verificar o efeito das interações reprodutor x rebanho e reprodutor x rebanho-ano sobre os valores genéticos de reprodutores da raça Pardo-Suíça. Os componentes de (co)variância foram estimados pelo método da máxima verossimilhança restrita, utilizando-se três modelos de características múltiplas, considerando-se como efeitos fixos grupo genético, estação de parto e classe de rebanho-ano e, como aleatórios, os efeitos de animal, de ambiente permanente, de interação reprodutor x rebanho ou reprodutor x rebanho-ano, quando considerada no modelo, e do erro. O teste da razão de verossimilhança foi aplicado, para verificação da efetividade da inclusão dos efeitos de interação nos modelos. As estimativas de componentes de (co)variâncias genética aditiva e residuais praticamente não alteraram quando os modelos foram ajustados para os efeitos de interação. Como conseqüência, os coeficientes de herdabilidade foram próximos entre si. A estimativa de herdabilidade foi de 0,40, para ambas as características, e a correlação genética entre as características, de 0,94, exceto quando o modelo considerou o efeito da interação reprodutor x rebanho. Neste caso, para a produção de gordura, a herdabilidade foi de 0,39 e a correlação genética entre as características de 0,95. A proporção da variância total explicada pelas interações reprodutor x rebanho e reprodutor x rebanho-ano foram quase nulas para produção de leite, e em torno de 1%, para produção de gordura. O logaritmo natural da função de verossimilhança aumentou quando se incluiu os efeitos de interação nos modelos. Correlações de Pearson e Spearman entre os valores genéticos obtidos pelos diferentes modelos foram superiores a 0,99, para produção de leite e de gordura, e acima de 0,897 entre as características estudadas. Records of milk and fat yields were used to study the effects of sire x herd and sire x herd-year interactions on genetic values of Brown Swiss breed sires. The (co)variance components were estimated by the restricted maximum likelihood method, by using three models with multitrait. In these models, the genetic group, season of calving and herd-year class were considered as fixed effects, while the animal effects, the permanent environment, the interaction of either sire x herd or sire x herd-year were considered as random ones, when the interaction was considered in the model, and the error as well. The likelihood ratio test was used to verify the effectiveness in including the interaction effects into models. The estimates of components of the genetic addictive and residual (co)variances did not change when the models were adjusted for the interaction effects. Therefore, the heritability coefficients approximated to each others. The heritability estimate were of 0.40 for both characteristics, and the genetic correlation among the characteristics of 0.94, except when the model considered the effect of the interaction sire x herd. The heritability of fat yield was of 0.39, and the genetic correlation among the characteristics of 0.95. The proportion of the total variance explained by the sire x herd and the sire x herd -year interactions was low, but almost null for milk yield, and about 1% for fat yield. The natural logarithm of likelihood function increased, when the interaction effects were included in the models. Pearson and Spearman correlations among the genetic values obtained by these models were superior than 0.99 for both milk and fat yields, and above 0.897 among the studied characteristics.

Foram utilizadas técnicas de análise multivariada para comparar dois híbridos obtidos de linhas de frango de corte desenvolvidas pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa com dois híbridos comerciais. As características avaliadas foram: peso ao abate (PAB), peso da carcaça (PC), peso do peito (PP), peso da contra-coxa (PCC), peso da coxa (PCX) e rendimento de carcaça (RCA). A análise de variância multivariada indicou diferença significativa entre os vetores de médias das características. Pelo teste de Roy, observou-se que para PC e PP os produtos comerciais foram superiores e para PCX e RCA não houve diferenças significativas entre os produtos comercias e os cruzamentos. Quanto à função discriminante linear de Fisher, observou-se superioridade significativa dos produtos comerciais pelo teste de Roy. Multivariate analyses were used to compare two hybrids obtained from two strains of broilers developed by Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) with two commercial hybrids. The evaluated traits were: slaughter weight (PAB), carcass weight (PC), breast weight (PP), upper thigh weight (PCC), thigh weight (PCX) and carcass yield (RCA). Multivariate analyses, showed significant differences among mean vectors of traits. The Roy test indicated the commercial products were better for PC and PP, and no differences between commercial products and UFV crosses were observed for PCX and RCA. The discriminant linear function of Fisher also indicated that commercial products were better than UFV crosses by the test of Roy.

Cypermethrin (CY), a type II pyrethroid has become a major class of insecticides used to control of ectoparasites that infecting caged layer hens. Although many studies have been done on toxicity of CY on mammals and fishes, little has been evaluated on chicks, especially hens. Thus, this study was carried out on forty-five, 70 weeks old laying hens to evaluate the safety of cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate 15% (CY-EC) and cypermethrin dust (CY-D). We have reported the first record of an exotic species of mites from an avian host of the order Galliformes in Bastos region, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The new feather mite was identified as Allopsoroptoides galli n. g., n. sp. (Acari: Analgoidea: Psoroptoididae). The hens parasitized by mites had intense itching, desquamation and marked drop in egg production (between 20-30%). Based on th e observed signals, this study aimed to verify the influence of parasitism on the blood profile, biochemical and histopathological changes in infested chicks. The infected hens showed hematocrit decrease, leukocytosis and eosinopenia. In serum chemical were observed decrease of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and creatinokinase (CK) and increase of gama glutamiltransferase enzymes (GGT), cholesterol, and total serum protein. All infected cases had skin lesions such as: hyperkeratosis, inflammatory heterophilic infiltration; hydropic degeneration and mixed cellular infiltration of lymphocytes and plasmocytes. The histopathological observation on the kidney in infected hens showed mild changes such as degeneration of kidney tubules, pyknosis and hemorrhage. The liver of birds infested presented infiltrates of mononuclear cells and vacuolation. It can be concluded that feather mite's infection causes serious damage to the hens. These results could be really useful to assist diagnosis and prognosis of this infection.

Foram realizados dois experimentos para avaliar o efeito da substituição dos minerais inorgânicos por minerais orgânicos no desenvolvimento de matrizes pesadas e galos. Experimento 1, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da substituição dos minerais inorgânicos por minerais orgânicos no desenvolvimento de matrizes. Um total de 540 matrizes, Cobb 500, (Slow feathering; 0-66 semanas de idade) foram distribuídas aleatoriamente em três tratamentos de 15 repetições, sendo 12 aves compondo a unidade experimental. Os tratamentos consistiam em: (MI) micromineral inorgânico, nos níveis de 100 Zn, 16 Cu e 100 Mn mg/kg. Micromineral bi-quelatado (MQ), substituição completa de minerais inorgânicos por menores níveis de quelato Zn, Cu ou Mn-metionina hidroxi análogo, nos níveis de 50 Zn, 8 Cu e 50 Mn mg/kg. Micromineral orgânico (MO), substituição completa de minerais inorgânicos por menores níveis de complexo Zn, Cu ou Mn-aminoácido, nos níveis de 50 Zn, 8 Cu e 50 Mn mg/kg, respectivamente. Não houve diferença no desempenho de crescimento durante as fases de pré-reprodução (0-24 semanas), os reprodutores alimentados com MI tiveram maior peso corporal, ganho de peso e menor conversão quando comparado com o MQ, no período de 0 - 10 sem. O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos entre as características reprodutivas e de eficiência alimentar, além de avaliar o impacto da utilização de diferentes pseudo-fenótipos na predição dessas caracteristicas. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no Grupo de Melhoramento Animal e Biotecnologia da Faculdade de Zootecnia e Engenharia de Alimentos da Universidade de São Paulo em parceria com a Agro-Pecuária CFM. O banco de dados continha informações fenotípicas de 2.058 animais Nelore de características de eficiência alimentar, como o consumo alimentar residual (CAR), ganho de peso residual (GPR), consumo e ganho residual (CGR) e informações fenotípicas de 192.005 fêmeas Nelore de características reprodutivas, como a probabilidade de prenhez aos 14 meses (PP14), capacidade de permanência no rebanho (STAY) e a produtividade anual média da vaca (PRODAM). Os componentes de (co)variância foram estimados em uma análise multi-característica via inferência bayesiana. Para a predição dos valores genéticos foram utilizadas as metodologias BLUP e ssGBLUP, considerando quatro cenários de predição com diferentes variáveis respostas (fenótipo original, fenótipo ajustado para efeitos fixos, valor genético e valor genético desregredido). A fim de avaliar o impacto das predições, a estimativa do coeficiente de correlação de Pearson entre os valores genéticos e genômicos e a correlação de Spearman foram calculadas. As estimativas dos coeficientes de herdabilidade encontrados foram: 0,38 ± 0,03 para PP14, 0,10 ± 0,01 para STAY, 0,09 ± 0,01 para PRODAM, 0,22 ± 0,07 para CAR, 0,28 ± 0,09 para GPR e 0,23 ± 0,07 para CGR. As estimativas dos coeficientes de correlação genéticas entre as características de eficiência alimentar e a PP14 foram antagônicas e de magnitude moderada a baixa, sendo, 0,19 (CAR e PP14), -0,33 (GPR e PP14) e -0,24 (CGR e PP14), indicando que a seleção para essas características de eficiência alimentar podem ser prejudiciais para probabilidade de prenhez de novilhas precoces. Os coeficientes de correlação de Pearson entre os valores genéticos e genômicos preditos e a correlação de rank apresentaram-se de maneira similar quando utilizado a metodologia BLUP e ssGBLUP, no qual as maiores magnitudes dos coeficientes de correlações foram encontradas quando utilizado o valor genético desregredido como pseudo-fenótipo , além de apresentar uma menor dispersão de predição. Desse modo, os resultados indicam que o valor genético desregredido pode ser usado como uma variável de resposta alternativa para predição genômica. The aim of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters between reproductive and feed efficiency traits and to evaluate the impact of using different pseudo-phenotypes in the prediction of breeding values. It was developed at the Group of Animal Breeding and Biotechnology of the College of Animal Science and Food Engineering at the University of São Paulo in partnership with Agro-Pecuária CFM. The database contained phenotypic data from 194,063 Nellore animals and pedigree information from 802,057 animals. The evaluated traits were probability of pregnancy at 14 months (PP14), stayability (STAY), cumulative annual productivity (PRODAM), residual feed intake (RFI), residual body weight gain (RG), and residual intake and gain (RIG). The variance components and genetic parameters were estimated under a multi-trait analysis via Bayesian inference. We used BLUP and ssGBLUP for breeding value prediction, in which we considered four prediction scenarios with different response variables (original phenotype, phenotype adjusted for fixed effects, genetic breeding values, and deregressed breeding values). To assess the impact of the predictions, the estimate of Pearson\'s correlation coefficient between the genetic and genomic values and Spearman\'s correlation were examined. The heritability estimates were: 0.38 ± 0.03 for PP14, 0.10 ± 0.01 for STAY, 0.09 ± 0.01 for PRODAM, 0.22 ± 0.07 for RFI, 0 .28 ± 0.09 for RG and 0.23 ± 0.07 for RIG, indicating moderate response to selection for the trait PP14. Estimates of genetic correlation coefficients between feed efficiency traits and PP14 were unfavorable for selection, 0.19 (RFI and PP14), -0.33 (RG and PP14), and -0.24 (RIG and PP14) indicating that selection for these feed efficiency traits can be detrimental to the probability of pregnancy of early heifers. Pearson\'s correlation coefficients between the predicted breeding values and the rank correlation were similar when we used BLUP or ssGBLUP methods, in which the highest magnitudes of the correlation coefficients were found when we used the deregressed breeding values and show a lower prediction bias. Thus, the results indicate that the deregressed breeding values can be used as an alternative response variable for genomic prediction.

A seleção genômica (SG) e a adoção de marcadores moleculares do tipo SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) aumentaram a eficiência de muitos programas de melhoramento genético ao redor do mundo. Com a utilização dessas novas ferramentas, aumentou-se a acurácia de predição dos animais jovens e sem progênie. A aplicação da informação genômica requer inúmeros genótipos para formação de grupos de referência e avaliação de candidatos, aumentando os custos financeiros. Considerando os erros de genotipagem, suas origens são pouco claras, ou inevitáveis, com taxas muitas vezes desconhecidas e, com o crescimento dos bancos de dados genômicos e a grande diversidade de painéis comercializados, ocorre o agravamento desse problema. Em especial, a adoção da imputação dos genótipos para maior densidade consiste em um dos principais fatores de ocorrência de erros genotípicos e inconsistências mendelianas em bancos de dados. Portanto, os objetivos deste trabalho foram: simular taxas de erros genotípicos em dados simulados de bovinos de corte que mimetizem erros de imputação; avaliar o efeito da presença de erros genotípicos na acurácia de predição genômica; e identificar o viés na performance das avaliações genéticas em cenários de taxas crescentes de erros genotípicos. Os resultados mostraram a existência de efeitos devido aos erros genotípicos, com uma tendência que sugere desfavorecimento dos animais geneticamente superiores. A acurácia de predição, medida como correlação entre GEBV (Genomic Estimated Breeding Value) e TBV (True Breeding Value), diminuiu em resposta a taxas crescentes de erros genotípicos, sendo esse efeito mais intenso nos 100 animais superiores genotipados. O viés obtido por regressão do TBV sobre o GEBV não apresentou alteração na comparação com todos os animais, entretanto observou-se que o GEBV de animais superiores foram mais viesados (b < 1) quanto maior a taxa de erros. A utilização de genótipos com altas taxas de erros pode gerar ranqueamento ilegítimo tanto para animais superiores como também inferiores. Genomic selection (GS) and the adoption of SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism)-type molecular markers have increased the efficiency of many breeding programs around the world. With the method, the prediction accuracy of young animals and those without progeny was increased. The application of genomic information requires numerous genotypes to form reference groups and evaluate candidates, increasing financial costs. Considering genotyping errors, their origins are unclear, or unavoidable, with rates often unknown. The growth of data collections and the great diversity of panels aggravate this problem, in particular, the adoption of the imputation of genotypes for higher density, which are the main factors in the occurrence of genotypic errors and Mendelian inconsistencies in databases. The objectives of this work are: to simulate genotypic error rates in simulated beef cattle data that mimic imputation errors; evaluate the effect of the presence of genotypic errors on the accuracy of genomic prediction; and identify bias in the performance of genetic evaluations in scenarios of increasing genotypic error rates. The results showed the existence of effects due to genotypic errors, with a trend that suggests the disadvantage of genetically superior animals. The prediction accuracy, measured as the correlation between GEBV and TBV, showed a decrease in response to increasing rates of genotypic errors, with this effect being more intense in the 100 superior animals genotyped. The bias obtained by regression of TBV on GEBV did not change in comparison with all animals. However, it was observed that the GEBV of superior animals was more biased (b < 1) the higher the error rate. The use of genotypes with high error rates can lead to erroneous ranking for both superior and inferior animals.

As novas tecnologias vêm crescendo de forma significativa em todos os setores da sociedade moderna. No campo não é diferente e seu uso tem contribuído para o aumento da produtividade em vários setores do Agronegócio, principalmente no correto uso das tecnologias no apoio ao manejo de animais. Dessa forma, o desenvolvimento de um software que possibilite ao produtor ou pesquisador determinar Área Foliar de forma rápida e barata pode contribuir de maneira significativa para o aumento da capacidade produtiva do setor. Com uma metodologia de trabalho simples o software USPLeaf foi capaz de captar imagens sem necessidade de aparatos sofisticados, exigindo pouco conhecimento técnico para a aquisição e manipulação das imagens, garantindo facilidade de operacionalidade e rapidez de processamento. O sistema foi desenvolvido na Faculdade de Zootecnia e Engenharia de Alimentos (FZEA) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Os métodos empregados para a aquisição das imagens consistiram de três dispositivos distintos, sendo o Samsung Galaxy A30, o Smartphone Lenovo K5 e uma câmera semiprofissional Sony Cyber Shot, modelo DSC H300. Como protocolo de coleta foi estabelecido que cada amostra deveria conter três folhas por espécie, sendo obtidas 15 amostras com 3 repetições de imagens por amostra, totalizando 45 amostras por espécie e processadas pelo software USPLeaf e pelo integrador padrão LI-COR 3100. As espécies utilizadas no experimento foram a Brachiaria Mavuno, a Macrotiloma e a Rami. Os resultados obtiveram um ótimo desempenho quando comparados com o método padrão, sendo que para a espécie Mavuno o coeficiente de determinação R² obtido com o dispositivo Samsung Galaxy A30, com a utilização da mesa de captação fixa foi de 97,05%, com o Smartphone Lenovo K5 sem o uso da mesa de captação foi de 90,80%, e com a câmera Cyber Shot DSC H300 sem a mesa de captação foi de 86,25%. Para a espécie Macrotiloma os valores de R² foram, respectivamente, 96,84%, 87,98 e 88,35% e, para a Rami, os valores de R² foram 96,39%, 92,09 e 78,05, respectivamente. Assim, os valores de R² obtidos permitem concluir que o uso do software é extremante eficaz e, que possibilita uma agilidade extremamente grande na obtenção da área foliar para diversos tipos e espécies de plantas, sendo exigido apenas uma padronização mínima na aquisição das imagens, onde a utilização do dispositivo Samsung Galaxy A80, com a utilização da mesa de captura obteve o melhor desempenho quando comparado com o método padrão LI-COR 3100. New technologies have been growing significantly in all sectors of modern society. In this field it is no different and its use has contributed to increase productivity in various sectors of Agribusiness, mainly in the correct use of technologies to support animal management. Thus, the development of A software that enables the producer or researcher to determine the Foliar Area quickly and cheaply can contribute significantly to the increase in the productive capacity of the sector. With a simple working methodology, the USPLeaf software IS able to capture images without the need for sophisticated apparatus, requiring little technical knowledge to acquire and manipulate the images, ensuring ease of operation and speed of processing. The system was developed at the Faculty of Animal Science and Food Engineering (FZEA) in University of São Paulo (USP). The methods used to acquire images consisted of three different devices, the Samsung Galaxy A30, the Lenovo K5 Smartphone and a Sony Cyber Shot semi-professional camera, model DSC H300. As a collection protocol, it was established that each sample should contain three leaves per species, obtaining 15 samples with 3 repetitions of images per sample, totaling 45 samples per species and processed by the USPLeaf software and by the standard integrator LI-COR 3100. The species used in the experiment were Brachiaria Mavuno, Macrotiloma and Rami. The results obtained an excellent performance when compared with the standard method, and for the Mavuno species the coefficient of determination R2 obtained with the Samsung Galaxy A30 device, with the use of the fixed capture table was 97.05%, with the Smartphone Lenovo K5 without using the pickup table was 90.80%, and with the Cyber Shot DSC H300 camera without the pickup table it was 86.25%. For the Macrotiloma species, R2 values were 96.84%, 87.98 and 88.35%, respectively, and for Rami, R2 values were 96.39%, 92.09 and 78.05, respectively. Thus, the R2 values obtained allow us to conclude that the use of the software is extremely effective and that it allows an extremely great agility in obtaining the leaf area for different types and species of plants, requiring only a minimum standardization in the acquisition of images, where the use of the Samsung Galaxy A80 device, with the use of the capture table obtained the best performance when compared to the standard LI-COR 3100 method.

Este estudo possui o objetivo de descrever, analisar e propor encaminhamentos pedagógicos aos processos de ensino-aprendizado nas práticas de bem-estar animal em propriedades produtoras de aves de corte, integradas a uma organização de produtos alimentícios, localizadas no interior do estado de São Paulo. Para a realização desta pesquisa foram percorridos dois caminhos metodológicos, que foram cotejados. O primeiro por meio de uma investigação a campo, para isso foi empregado o método de coleta de dados e informações denominado estudo de caso (YIN, 2001). Para essa atividade foram confeccionados dois roteiros de pesquisa, um voltado para os técnicos-extensionistas da organização e outro para os proprietários de granja e funcionários que são integrados à organização produtora de alimentos. De forma ampla, os roteiros de pesquisa abordaram os seguintes elementos: caracterização socioeconômica dos sujeitos da amostra, produtores rurais e funcionários bem como dos técnicos-extensionistas da organização integradora; descrição dos processos de ensino-aprendizados relativos às práticas de BEA quanto às formas e os conteúdos empregados nas rotinas produtivas nos sujeitos da amostra; identificação e detalhamento de como os técnicos-extensionistas, produtores e funcionários rurais internalizam e se apropriam das informações técnicas e administrativas presentes nas capacitações das práticas de BEA; e coleta de relatos juntos aos três grupos de sujeitos entrevistados, sobre os resultados da internalização das novas tecnologias relativas às práticas de BEA quanto à qualidade de vida no trabalho. O segundo caminho foi percorrido pela construção de um referencial teórico baseado em um conjunto de autores que desenvolveram pesquisas quanto aos caminhos do ensino-aprendizado (FREIRE, 1977, 1987, 1979; BAKHTIN, 2003; PONTUSCHKA, 2007; VOLOCHINOV, 2013, 2017) e na produção de novos sentidos e significados que ocorrem nos territórios rurais (ZUIN et al., 2014; ZUIN, ZUIN, COSTA, 2016; CEBALLOS et al., 2018;). Os resultados desta pesquisa foram obtidos pelos cotejamentos dos conteúdos dos enunciados coletados em campo que evidenciaram: a minoria dos entrevistados possui curso técnico ou universitário; a capacitação ocorreu em aulas teóricas e rotinas de trabalho; quase todos produtores e empregados afirmam que aprendem no dia a dia uns com os outros e em consultas às apostilas. Um dos produtos previstos para este estudo foi propor conjuntos de encaminhamentos interacionais voltados para os processos de ensino-aprendizado, relativos às práticas de bem-estar animal para técnicos-extensionistas e produtores rurais integrados da empresa de grande porte da cadeia produtiva de produtos alimentícios, que é objeto desse estudo. This study aims to describe, analyze and propose pedagogical approaches to the teaching-learning processes in animal welfare practices in farms producing poultry, integrated with an organization of food products, located in the interior of the state of São Paulo. To carry out this research, two methodological paths were followed, which were compared. The first by means of a field investigation, for this the data and information collection method called case study was used (YIN, 2001), for this activity two research scripts were made, one aimed at the extension technicians of the organization and another for farm owners and employees who are part of the food producing organization. The research scripts broadly addressed the following elements: socioeconomic characterization of the sample subjects: rural producers and employees, as well as the extension technicians of the integrating organization; description of the teaching-learning processes related to AW practices regarding the forms and contents used in the productive routines of the the subjects of the sample; identification and detailing of how extension technicians, producers and rural employees internalize and appropriate the technical and administrative information present in the training of AW practices; and collecting reports from the three groups of subjects interviewed about the results of the internalization of new technologies related to AW practices regarding quality of life at work. The second path was followed by the construction of a theoretical framework based on a set of authors who developed research on teaching-learning paths (VOLOCHINOV, 2013, 2017; PONTUSCHKA, 2007; BAKHTIN, 2003; FREIRE, 1987) and the production of new senses and meanings that occur in rural territories (ZUIN et al., 2014; ZUIN; ZUIN; COSTA, 2016; CEBALLOS et al., 2018; FREIRE, 1977). The results of this research were obtained by comparing the contents of the statements collected in the field that showed: the minority of the interviewees has a technical or university course; the training took place in theoretical classes and work routines; almost all producers and employees claim that they learn from day to day with each other and in consultation with handouts. One of the products planned for this study will be to propose sets of interactive referrals focused on the teaching-learning processes, related to animal welfare practices for extension technicians and integrated rural producers of the large company in the food product production chain, which is the object of this study.

Traditional animal breeding programs have considerably modified chicken production in Brazil. However, the intensive selection process over the years brought negative consequences in poultry production, such as increased of the abdominal fat deposition, resulting in difficulties in the industrial processing and depreciation of the final product. In recent years, technological advances in molecular genetics and bioinformatics fields have made genomic selection (GS), using molecular markers (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms - SNP), and more recently the whole-genome sequencing (WGS), an important tool to increase the genetic gain in animal breeding, especially for complex traits and traits which are difficult to measure. The aims of this work were to estimate the genetic values and compare the genomic predictions using a high-density SNP panel (HD - 600K) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) dataset through different marker densities. Organs (heart, liver, gizzard and lungs) and carcass (breast, thigh, drumstick) information of 2,000 animals derived from a TT broiler line belonging to the Animal Breeding Program from Embrapa Swine and Poultry were used in further analysis. Subsequently, genomic predictions were performed using pedigree- based BLUP (PBLUP), single-step genomic BLUP (ssGBLUP) and BayesC models using various densities of SNP and variants imputed from whole-genome sequence. Genomic predictions were better when the genomic information was added in the analyses. However, our results showed no benefit of using WGS data compared to HD array data when ssGBLUP or BayesC approaches were applied. Besides that, the use of array data with lower densities (~74.000 SNPs can provide significant results at a low cost. O melhoramento genético modificou consideravelmente a produção de frango no Brasil e no mundo. No entanto, o intensivo processo de seleção ao longo dos anos trouxe consequências negativas em aves, como por exemplo, o aumento na deposição de gordura abdominal nos animais, resultando em dificuldades de processamento e depreciação do produto final. Nos últimos anos, os avanços tecnológicos nas áreas de genética molecular e bioinformática fizeram com que a seleção genômica (SG) com o uso de marcadores moleculares (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms - SNP), e mais recentemente o sequenciamento completo do genoma (Whole-Genomic Sequencing- WGS), se tornasse uma importante ferramenta para aumentar o ganho genético no melhoramento animal, especialmente para características complexas e de difícil mensuração. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram estimar os valores genéticos e comparar as predições genômicas utilizando provenientes de um painel de SNP de alta densidade (HD - 600K) e de dados do sequenciamento completo do genoma (WGS), por meio de diferentes densidades de marcadores. Foram utilizadas informações de órgãos (coração, fígado, moela e pulmões) e carcaça (peito, coxa, sobrecoxa) de 2.000 aves provenientes da população referência TT pertencente ao Programa de Melhoramento Genético de Aves da EMBRAPA Suínos e Aves. Posteriormente, as predições genômicas foram realizadas utilizando os modelos PBLUP (Pedigree-Based BLUP), ssGBLUP (single-step Genomic BLUP) e BayesC em várias densidades de SNP e variantes imputadas a partir da sequência do genoma completo. As predições genômicas foram melhores quando as informações genômicas foram adicionadas nas análises. No entanto, nossos resultados não mostraram nenhum benefício no uso de dados WGS em comparação aos dados do HD quando as abordagens ssGBLUP ou BayesC foram aplicadas. Além disso, o uso de um painel de baixa densidade (~74.000 SNPs) pode fornecer resultados significativos a um baixo custo.

O objetivo foi caracterizar a carne de peito de perus acometidos pelos diferentes graus de severidade da miopatia White Striping e avaliar a influência desta miopatia na qualidade da carne e as características qualitativas, aceitação sensorial e estabilidade durante armazenamento refrigerado de um embutido cozido, bem como avaliar os efeitos da adição de diferentes níveis de quitosana sobre características qualitativas, aceitação sensorial e estabilidade durante armazenamento refrigerado em embutido cozido elaborado à base de carne de perus com miopatia White Striping. No primeiro estudo, o peito inteiro foi classificado macroscopicamente e avaliados o peso e as medidas morfométricas. Posteriormente o músculo foi separado e avaliado quanto às características histológicas, coloração, pH, capacidade de retenção de água, perda de peso por cozimento, força de cisalhamento, comprimento de sarcômero, teor de colágeno, composição centesimal, colesterol e ácidos graxos. No segundo e terceiro estudo, um embutido cozido de carne de perus com miopatia e outro embutido cozido de carne de perus com miopatia adicionado com diferentes níveis de quitosana (Controle, 1,5% e 3,0%) foram processados, armazenados durante 56 dias e avaliados quanto a composição centesimal, pH, coloração, perfil de textura, perdas por gotejamento, capacidade de retenção de água, perda de água por pressão, TBARS, avaliação microbiológica e sensorial. Os resultados do primeiro estudo demonstraram que os músculos com miopatia exibiram maiores pesos e diâmetro das fibras. O aumento da severidade aumentou (P < 0,05) o valor de cinzas, colágeno insolúvel e total e parâmetro de cor L* e, diminuiu (P < 0,05) o valor de proteínas, força de cisalhamento e parâmetro de cor a *. No segundo estudo, o aumento da severidade aumentou (P < 0,05) o teor de lipídeos e TBARS e diminuiu (P < 0,05) a dureza, gomosidade e mastigabilidade dos embutidos. Durante o armazenamento, os embutidos moderado e severo apresentaram um aumento (P < 0,05) nos valores de TBARS no final do armazenamento, uma diminuição (P < 0,05) nos valores de pH ao longo do armazenamento, um aumento (P < 0,05) no parâmetro de a* nos embutidos moderados e um aumento (P < 0,05) no parâmetro de cor b* nos embutidos severos. Os embutidos severos tiveram a menor aceitação global. No terceiro estudo, a adição de quitosana diminuiu (P < 0,05) o teor de umidade, lipídeos, proteínas, perda de água por pressão e parâmetro de cor L * e aumentou (P < 0,05) o teor de cinzas, pH e parâmetro de cor b *. A utilização de 1,5% de quitosana aumentou (P < 0,05) a dureza, coesividade, gomosidade e mastigabilidade e, os tratamentos Controle e Quitosana 1,5% aumentaram o parâmetro de cor a * (P < 0,05). Durante o armazenamento, os valores de pH foram maiores (P < 0,05) entre os tratamentos com quitosana, o parâmetro de cor a* aumentaram no início e o parâmetro de cor b* aumentaram no final do armazenamento. Sensorialmente, os tratamentos Controle e 1,5% de quitosana foram os mais preferidos entre os provadores. Portanto, a miopatia em seus diferentes graus de severidade causou alterações nas características histológicas e de qualidade da carne de perus, contudo pode ser utilizada em embutidos cozidos, enriquecidos (até 1,5%) ou não com quitosana, sendo uma alternativa viável de aproveitamento e de agregação de valor neste tipo de carne. The aim was to characterize the turkey breast meat affected by the different degrees of severity of White Striping myopathy and to evaluate the influence of this myopathy on the quality of the meat and the qualitative characteristics, sensory acceptance and stability during storage of a cooked sausage, as well as to evaluate the effects of adding different levels of chitosan on qualitative characteristics, sensory acceptance and stability during storage in cooked sausage made from turkey meat with White Striping myopathy. In the first study, the whole breast was classified macroscopically and weight and morphometric measurements were evaluated. Subsequently, the muscle was separated and evaluated for histological characteristics, color, pH, water retention capacity, cooking loss, shear force, sarcomere length, collagen content, proximate composition, cholesterol and fatty acids. In the second and third study, a cooked sausage of turkey meat with myopathy and another cooked sausage of turkey meat with myopathy with different levels of chitosan (Control, 1.5% and 3.0%) were processed, stored for 56 days and evaluated for proximate composition, pH, color, texture profile, cooking loss, water retention capacity, water loss by pressure, TBARS, microbiological and sensory evaluation. The results of the first study showed the muscles with myopathy exhibited higher weights and fiber diameter. The increase of severity increased (P < 0.05) the value of ash, insoluble and total collagen and color parameter L * and, decreased (P < 0.05) the value of proteins, shear force and color parameter a *. In the second study, the increase in severity increased (P < 0.05) the content of lipids and TBARS and decreased (P < 0.05) the hardness, gumminess and chewiness of sausages. During storage, the moderate and severe sausages showed an increase (P < 0.05) in pH values during storage, an increase (P < 0.05) in the color parameter of a * in moderate sausages and an increase (P < 0.05) in the color parameter b * in severe sausages. Severe sausages had the lowest global acceptance. In the third study, the addition of chitosan decreased (P < 0.05) the moisture content, lipids, proteins, pressure, water retention capacity and color parameter L * and increased (P < 0.05) the ash content, pH and color parameter b *. The use of 1.5% chitosan increased (P < 0.05) the hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness and, the Control and 1.5% Chitosan treatments increased the color parameter a * (P < 0.05). During storage, the pH values were higher (P < 0.05) between treatments with chitosan, the color parameter a * increased at the beginning and color parameter b * increased at the end of storage. Sensorially, the Control and 1.5% chitosan treatments were the most preferred among the tasters. Therefore, myopathy in its different degrees of severity caused changes in the histological and quality characteristics of turkey meat, however it can be used in cooked sausages, enriched or not with chitosan (up to 1.5%), being a viable alternative for use and adding value to this type of meat.

O leite é um produto de origem animal e, assim denominado, quando oriundo de vacas sadias em estado de lactação, é composto por água, proteínas, gorduras, minerais, carboidratos, vitaminas e outros sólidos solúveis e, a ele, não podem ser adicionadas substâncias estranhas nem conter resíduos de medicamentos e antibióticos. Possui shelf-life relativamente curto, que se reduz ao não ser armazenado ou manipulado adequadamente, o que por vezes leva à fraude por parte da cadeia produtiva de lácteos, com o intuito de aumentar o volume de leite, mascarar alterações físico-químicas que possam ter ocorrido e/ou reaproveitar produtos inadequados ao consumo. Dentre as substancias comumente adicionadas ao leite se encontram o peróxido de hidrogênio, o hidróxido de sódio, o formaldeído ou formol e a ureia combinada com a adição de água. A detecção dessa adição por vezes é lenta, em alguns casos, complexa e de alto custo. Tecnologias alternativas e de baixo custo, como as línguas eletrônicas e plataformas como o Arduino, tem sido muito estudadas para emprego em análise de alimentos para reduzir o tempo analítico e o custo das análises. Assim, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo desenvolver e validar um sistema eletrônico de sensores para mensurar características físico-químicas do leite por meio do processamento de dados para identificação de fraude. Os sensores utilizados neste trabalho foram de pH, temperatura e condutividade, os quais foram comparados com os sensores padrões utilizados para essas mensurações. Para o peróxido de hidrogênio e para a combinação ureia e água, nas concentrações testadas, o equipamento não produziu resultados conclusivos, para os demais testes realizados os sensores apresentaram um desempenho mais relevante e, assim, pode-se concluir que, o equipamento desenvolvido precisa de alguns ajustes, os quais irão viabilizar, no futuro, o seu emprego para a identificação de fraudes em leite. Milk is an animal product and, as such, when derived from healthy lactating cows, is composed of protein, fat, minerals, carbohydrates, vitamins and other soluble solids. It may not be added to foreign substances or contain residues of medicines and antibiotics. However, it has a relatively short shelf life, it is reduced when not properly stored or have been inadequate handled, which sometimes leads to fraud by the dairy production chain in order to yield more milk, mask physicochemical changes that may have occurred and/or reuse products that are not suitable for consumption. Commonly added substances in milk include hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide, formaldehyde or formaldehyde and urea combined with the addition of water. Detection of this addition is sometimes slow, in some cases complex and costly. Low cost alternative technologies such as electronic languages and platforms such as Arduino have been widely studied for use in food analysis to reduce analytical time and the cost of laboratory analysis. Thus, the present work aimed to develop and validate an electronic sensor system to measure physicochemical characteristics of milk by processing data to identify fraud. The sensors used in this work were pH, temperature and conductivity, which compared with the standard sensors used for these measurements. For hydrogen peroxide and for the combination urea and water, at the tested concentrations, the equipment did not produce conclusive results, for the other tests performed, the sensors obtained a good performance and, therefore, it may concluded that the developed equipment needs some adjustments, which will make it possible for you to identify milk fraud in the future.

Novas ferramentas são criadas constantemente usando as Novas Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (NTIC) para todos os setores da economia, possibilitando ampliar a produção, melhorar processos, oferecer condições para obtenção de maiores ganhos financeiros e redução do uso de insumos contribuindo para sustentabilidade do meio ambiente. No atual cenário emergente de novas tecnologias e, sabendo da necessidade do produtor em administrar de forma eficiente sua propriedade, o intuito deste estudo foi o de desenvolver um software usando visão computacional e técnicas de processamento de imagens, atrelado as redes neurais artificiais (RNA), a fim de estimar o status nutricional quanto ao nitrogênio (N) em plantas da espécie Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés. O experimento foi conduzido em campo aberto no período de novembro de 2017 a março de 2018, nas dependências do Departamento de Zootecnia, na Faculdade de Zootecnia e Engenharia de Alimentos (FZEA/USP) em uma área compreendida por 12 parcelas com área útil de 40 m² cada e dividida em três blocos completos casualizados, onde foram administrados quatro tratamentos com as concentrações de N (0, 15, 30 e 45 kg N ha-1), cuja fonte foi NH4NO3 (32%). As imagens obtidas em campo das lâminas foliares por meio de câmera digital, de sensor passivo, presente no smartphone foram processadas e analisadas no sistema de cores RGB (Red, Green e Blue), bem como foram encaminhadas ao laboratório para determinação da concentração de N pelo método Kjeldahl e, assim, gerando uma base de dados correlacionada com as imagens processadas. Uma vez processadas as imagens, foram gerados os índices de vegetação. Para identificação dos índices que melhor explicassem a relação com o teor de N na planta obtido em laboratório foi utilizada a análise de componentes principais (PCA). Inicialmente foram gerados 18 índices que, após análise foram reduzidos para 12, compostos por Gn, Bn, Saturação, ExG, CIVE, VEG e COM, os quais compuseram o primeiro componente e, pelos índices R, G, Brilho, ExR e VARIgreen que compuseram o segundo componente, gerando assim, um coeficiente de determinação de 0,902 (R²), os quais foram utilizados como entrada de dados na rede neural artificial. Para a implementação da rede neural Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) foram testadas as redes Feed-Forward Backpropagation (FFBP) e Cascade-Forward Backpropagation (CFBP) com 5, 10 e 15 neurônios na camada intermediária com aplicação da função de ativação tansig, atingindo boa performance na classificação da gramínea (R² de 0,79 e 0,81, respectivamente). Já a rede Radial Basis Function (RBF) implementada com valor do spread igual a 1 e erro de performance igual a 0,0001, gerou a melhor classificação dentre as redes implementadas, com um R² de 0,99 para a determinação do status de N. Desta forma, o software de processamento de imagem e a rede neural RBF desenvolvidos foram capazes de classificar corretamente como suficiente, moderadamente deficiente ou deficiente o status de N em Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés. New tools are constantly being created using New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT) for all sectors of the economy, making it possible to expand production, improve processes, offer conditions for greater financial gains and reduce the use of inputs, contributing to the sustainability of the environment. In the current emerging scenario of new technologies and knowing the need of the producer to efficiently manage his property, the aim of this study was to develop a software using computer vision and image processing techniques, linked to an artificial neural network (ANN), in order to estimate nitrogen (N) nutritional status in Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés. The experiment was conducted out in the open field from November 2017 to March 2018, on the premises of the Department of Zootechnics, at the Faculty of Zootechnics and Food Engineering (FZEA / USP) in an area comprised of 12 portion with a floor area of 40 m² each and divided into three randomized complete blocks, where were administered four treatments with N concentrations (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg N ha-1), whose source was NH4NO3 (32%). The images obtained in the field of the leaf blades through digital camera, passive sensor, present in smartphone, were processed and analyzed in the RGB color system (Red, Green and Blue), were also sent to the laboratory for determination of N concentration by the Kjeldahl method and thus generate a database correlated with the processed images. Once the images were processed, the vegetation indices were generated. To identify the indices that best explain the relationship with the N content obtained in the laboratory, principal component analysis (PCA) was used. Initially, 18 indices were generated which, after analysis, were reduced to 12, composed by Gn, Bn, Saturation, ExG, CIVE, VEG and COM which composed the first component and, by the indices R, G, Brightness, ExR and VARIgreen that composed the second component, thus generating determination coefficient of 0,902 (R²), which were used as input layer of the artificial neural network. For the implementation of the neural network Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), the Feed-Forward Backpropagation (FFBP) e Cascade-Forward Backpropagation (CFBP) networks were tested with 5, 10 and 15 neurons in the intermediate layer with the application of the tansig activation function achieving good performance in the grass classification (R² 0,79 and 0,81, respectively). However, the Radial Basis Function (RBF) network implemented with spread value equal to 1 and minimum error of 0,0001, generated the highest rating among the implemented networks, with an R² of 0,99 for determining the status of N. Thus, the image processing software and RBF neural network developed can correctly classify as sufficient, moderately deficient or deficient the status of N in Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés.

O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o efeito da inclusão de Levedura (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) sobre o desempenho e saúde intestinal de leitões recém desmamados, durante 42 dias de creche. Foram utilizados 1440 leitões (720 machos e 720 fêmeas) híbridos (Topigs x Agroceres PIC) recém desmamados, distribuídos em 4 tratamentos (0, 5,10 e 20%) de inclusão de levedura hidrolisada na dieta, com oito repetições de 45 animais, totalizando 32 baias, sendo cada baia considerada uma unidade experimental. Os leitões foram distribuídos em delineamento de blocos casualizados, tomando como critério para a formação dos blocos o peso dos leitões, de acordo com os tratamentos. Os parâmetros avaliados durante o período experimental foram consumo de ração (CR), ganho de peso (GP), conversão alimentar (CA) e incidência de diarreia (durante os primeiros 16 dias de creche). Os resultados foram considerados estatisticamente significativos em P0,05). Em relação a ocorrência e incidência dos escores de diarreia não houve resultado estatístico significativo (P>0,05). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on the performance and intestinal health of weaned piglets during 42 days of nursery. Were used 1440 hybrid piglets (Topigs x Agroceres PIC) (720 males and 720 females) were distributed in 4 treatments (0, 5%,10% and 20% of hydrolysed yeast inclusion in the diet), with eight replications of 45 animals, totaling 32 stalls, each stall being considered an experimental unit. The piglets were distributed in a randomized block design, using the weight of the piglets as criteria for block formation, according to the treatments. The parameters evaluated during the experimental period were feed intake (FI), weight gain (WG), feed conversion (FC) and incidence of diarrhea (during the first 16 days). Results were considered statistically significant at P 0.05). Regarding the incidence of diarrhea scores there was no statistically significant result (P> 0.05).

A avicultura é uma das principais atividades agropecuárias no Brasil, no entanto apresenta grande dependência de material genético importado. Além disso, o crescente interesse por produtos avícolas oriundos de sistemas alternativos de criação, onde as aves são criadas fora das gaiolas, pode exigir animais mais adaptados a esse sistema de criação bem como ao clima tropical brasileiro. Desta forma, dois estudos foram desenvolvidos. No primeiro, o objetivo foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos para características de produção e qualidade dos ovos de oito linhagens de galinhas caipiras. Foram utilizadas as medidas de idade à primeira postura (IPP), produção total de ovos até a 45ª semana (PROD), peso do ovo (PO), altura do albúmen (AA), cor da gema (CG), unidades Haugh (HU), resistência da casca (RC), espessura da casca (EC), peso da gema (PG) e peso da casca (PC) de 2030 ovos, oriundos de 645 aves. Os componentes de variância foram obtidos por meio de um modelo misto animal, onde foram incluídos os efeitos fixos de grupo de contemporâneas, corredor da gaiola e linhagem da galinha e os efeitos genético aditivo, ambiente permanente e residual. As herdabilidades variaram de 0,03 a 0,33. As correlações genéticas entre PROD e as características de qualidade dos ovos foram negativas e variaram entre -0,42 e -0,05. Correlações genéticas altas e positivas, entre 0,36 e 0,69, foram estimadas entre as características de qualidade externa do ovo. No segundo estudo, o objetivo foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos para características de cor da casca do ovo, bem como as correlações genéticas e fenotípicas entre estas características e as características de produção e qualidade dos ovos avaliadas no primeiro estudo. Foram realizadas análises colorimétricas (coordenadas L*, a*, b*, do sistema de cor CIELab) de 1142 ovos oriundos de 597 aves. As herdabilidades estimadas para estas coordenadas variaram de 0,35 a 0,48 e as correlações genéticas entre elas foram altas. No geral, as correlações genéticas entre a cor da casca e as características de qualidade do ovo foram baixas, sugerindo que a cor da casca não influencia a qualidade interna e externa do ovo. Poultry farming is one of the main agricultural activities in Brazil, but it is highly dependent on imported genetic material. Moreover, the growing interest in poultry products from cage-free systems may require animals better adapted to free- range systems and tropical climate. Regarding this subject, two studies were developed. The aim of the first one was to estimate genetic parameters for egg production and egg quality traits in eight alternative poultry lines. The traits of interest were age at first egg (AFE), total egg production up to the 45th week (PROD), egg weight (EW), albumen height (AH), yolk color (YC), Haugh units (HU), eggshell strength (ESS), eggshell thickness (EST), yolk weight (YW) and eggshell weight (ESW). Phenotypic records of 645 laying hens and 2030 eggs were used. Variance components were estimated from a mixed animal model, which included the fixed effects of contemporary groups, cage location and hen line, and the additive genetic, permanent environmental and residual effects. Heritabilities ranged from 0.03 to 0.33. Genetic correlations between PROD and egg quality traits were negative and varied between -0.42 and -0.05. High and positive genetic correlations were estimated between eggshell quality traits. In the second study, the aim was to estimate genetic parameters for eggshell color and also genetic and phenotypic correlations between eggshell color and egg quality traits which were evaluated in the first study. Color coordinates from CIELab color space L* (brightness), a* (red/green scale) and b* (yellow/blue scale) of 1142 eggs were determined. The estimated heritabilities ranged from 0.35 to 0.48 and the genetic correlations between them were high. In general, the genetic correlations between eggshell color and egg quality traits were low, suggesting that the eggshell color does not influence internal and external egg quality.
