- Abstract
The European Space Agency's Planck satellite, launched on 14 May 2009, is the third-generation space experiment in the field of cosmic microwave background (CMB) research. It will image the anisotropies of the CMB over the whole sky, with unprecedented sensitivity (${{\Delta T}\over T}$ ~ 2 × 10-6) and angular resolution (~5 arcmin). Planck will provide a major source of information relevant to many fundamental cosmological problems and will test current theories of the early evolution of the Universe and the origin of structure. It will also address a wide range of areas of astrophysical research related to the Milky Way as well as external galaxies and clusters of galaxies. The ability of Planck to measure polarization across a wide frequency range (30-350 GHz), with high precision and accuracy, and over the whole sky, will provide unique insight, not only into specific cosmological questions, but also into the properties of the interstellar medium. This paper is part of a series which describes the technical capabilities of the Planck scientific payload. It is based on the knowledge gathered during the on-ground calibration campaigns of the major subsystems, principally its telescope and its two scientific instruments, and of tests at fully integrated satellite level. It represents the best estimate before launch of the technical performance that the satellite and its payload will achieve in flight. In this paper, we summarise the main elements of the payload performance, which is described in detail in the accompanying papers. In addition, we describe the satellite performance elements which are most relevant for science, and provide an overview of the plans for scientific operations and data analysis.

- Abstract
The interaction of the nucleotide excision repair (NER) protein dimeric complex XPC-hHR23B, which is implicated in the DNA damage recognition step, with three Cy3.5 labeled 90-bp double-stranded DNA substrates (unmodified, with a central unpaired region, and cholesterol modified) and a 90-mer single-strand DNA was investigated in solution by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy. Autocorrelation functions obtained in the presence of an excess of protein show larger diffusion times (tau(d)) than for free DNA, indicating the presence of DNA-protein bound complexes. The fraction of DNA bound (theta), as a way to describe the percentage of protein bound to DNA, was directly estimated from FCS data. A significantly stronger binding capability for the cholesterol modified substrate (78% DNA bound) than for other double-stranded DNA substrates was observed, while the lowest affinity was found for the single-stranded DNA (27%). This is in accordance with a damage recognition role of the XPC protein. The similar affinity of XPC for undamaged and 'bubble' DNA substrates (58% and 55%, respectively) indicates that XPC does not specifically bind to this type of DNA substrate comprising a large (30-nt) central unpaired region.

Introduction: Vitiligo is a non-contagious leukoderma. The loss of melanocytes result in a local hypopigmentation like white symmetrical plaques with sharp edges, most of the time surrounded by hyperpigmentation. It might be an auto immune disease with a genetic predisposition linked to psychological disorders. Oral mucosa vitiligo has rarely been described in the literature. Observation: A seventeen years old patient, native from North Africa, has consulted for a half left upper lip depigmentation appeared in October 2016. The dermatologist had made the diagnosis of vitiligo and prescribed vitamin C and folic acid, without any result. In July 2017, as the lesion has extended to the whole upper lip, the patient came to oral mucosa pathology consultation. Anamnesis revealed a chronic lips chewing. Clinical examination revealed a linear vermillion border depigmentation of the upper lip associated with peripheral pigment enhancement, as well as digital cutaneous involvement. The prescribed treatment was: tacrolimus 0.1% twice daily in local application, stopping practice disorder and sun protection. Comment: Diagnosis of vitiligo is based on clinical examination that can differentiate a segmental vitiligo (localized on at least one dermatomes) of a non-segmental vitiligo (acrofacial, generalized, universalis). Vitiligo of the oral mucosa is rare. It has mainly been described in India. Oral mucosa involvement would affect 55% of patient and the lip would be affected in almost one in two cases in this population. Conclusion: Oral mucosa vitiligo must be known by oral surgeon who has to master the diagnosis and treatments in association with dermatologist, given the concomitant skin involvement that is almost mandatory.

The use of normobaric exposure to O
2 as a model for in vitro oxidative injury prevented phytohaemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PB MC) from undergoing the G0 to G1 transition, but 5 × 10-6 M 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME) almost protected the cells from this blockade. The percentage of cells with IL-2 and transferrin-receptors was reduced by the O2 exposure and, like the cell cycle transition, was protected by 2-ME against oxidative injury. By contrast, IL-2 recovery in the supernatants of O2 -exposed PHA-stimulated PBMC was enhanced. This enhancement may be due partly to the reduced IL-2 consumption caused by the decreases in IL-2 receptor expression and in proliferation. On the other hand, lL-2 recovery in the supernatants of 02-treated PBMC was always enhanced compared to the IL-2 control recovery after DNA synthesis was blocked in G 1/S by mitomycin c, and the G0/G1 transition was protected by 2-ME. Furthermore, PH A-stimulated monocytes exposed to O2 produced more IL- 1 than control cells. This enhanced IL-1 production was not modified by 2-ME. These results suggest that oxidative injury reduces the proliferation of PBMC by interfering with the cellular events that lead to the transition from the G0 to the G1 phase of the cell cycle. The protective effects of 2-ME suggest that thiol compounds have a critical role in the early events of the cell cycle. By contrast, exposure to O2 induced increases in the production of both IL-1 and IL-2 that may not be related to alterations in the thiol status of the cell. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
The effects of penicillin, macrolides (spiramycin and erythromycin), cephalosporins (cefaclor and cefadroxil), tetracycline (doxycycline) and quinolones (pefloxacin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin) on extracellular and cell-associated interleukin 1 (IL-1) activity from human adherent mononuclear leucocyte cells were investigated in vitro. When cells were treated with an antibiotic concentration of 10 mg/l, no apparent effect could be detected for penicillin, erythromycin, cephalosporins or quinolones, while a slight increase of extracellular IL-1 activity associated with a decrease of intracellular IL-1 activity was observed with spiramycin and doxycycline. When high antibiotic concentration were used, extracellular IL-1 activity was increased by macrolides and tetracycline, while both cell-associated and class II human monocyte antigen expression were decreased. A toxic effect may have been exerted by these antimicrobial agents, since cell viability was altered when they were used at high concentrations. In contrast, extracellular IL-1 activity was found to be decreased by quinolones and cephalosporins. Intracellular IL-1 activity was also decreased by cephalosporins, while quinolones did not modify either cell-associated IL-1 activity or class II human monocyte antigen expression. The effect induced by quinolones and cephalosporins occurred without modification of cell viability. IL-1 activity was shown to be affected by antibiotics over the same range of concentrations which are known to inhibit mononuclear leucocyte proliferation. Our data may help in defining the mechanism by which the mitogen-induced mononuclear proliferative response is suppressed by antimicrobial agents since this appears to involve the inhibition of IL-1 production or of its release. - Abstract
The effects of three quinoline derivatives-pefloxacin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin— were investigated in mitogen-stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear leucocytes (MNL). At concentrations of 50 mg/1 or more, pefloxacin, ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin significantly inhibited MNL proliferation in response to phytohaemagglutinin. This inhibition was more marked with ciprofloxacin than pefloxacin or ofloxacin. To determine the possible mechanism(s) involved in the inhibition of MNL proliferation following exposure to pefloxacin, ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin, we assessed (1) interleukin-1 (IL-1) activity in supernatants from monocytes treated with the quinolones and (2) the effects of 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME) a thiol compound which acts as an antioxidant agent and the effect of indomethacin (INDO) an inhibitor of prostaglandin E2 synthesis. 2-ME and INDO did not prevent the decrease in the proliferation. IL-1 activity was shown to be decreased for the same range of antibiotic concentrations as observed for the inhibition of MNL proliferation. Cellular viability of the MNL or monocytes was not modified by any of the quinolones at the concentrations tested. Taken together, these results suggest that pefloxacin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin act as immunomodulators. The mechanism involved with the cascade of events that leads to the lymphocyte proliferation and the clinical relevance need further investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

22 páginas, 16 figuras, 6 tablas.-- Planck Science Team: et al., The European Space Agency's Planck satellite, launched on 14 May 2009, is the third-generation space experiment in the field of cosmic microwave background (CMB) research. It will image the anisotropies of the CMB over the whole sky, with unprecedented sensitivity ( ~ 2 × 10-6) and angular resolution (~5 arcmin).

Our programme is to use the model of W. Woods 1970 to attempt a full scale analysis of the language. It could be viewed as an attempt to revive the Markovian model, but this would be wrong, because previous Markovian models were aimed at giving a global description of a language, whereas the model we advocate, and which we call it finite-state for short, is of a strictly local nature. In this perspective, the global nature of language results from the interaction of a multiplicity of local finite-state schemes which we call finite-state local automata. To start with, we give elementary examples where the finite constraints can be exhaustively described in a local way, that is, without interferences from the rest of the grammar.

Phonetic conversion, and other conversion problems related to phonetics, can be performed by finite-state tools. This chapter presents a finite-state conversion system, BiPho, based on tranducers and bimachines. The linguistic data used by this system are described in a readable format and actual computation is efficient.

- Abstract
Background: Sensorimotor beta oscillations are increased in Parkinson's disease (PD) due to the alteration of dopaminergic transmission. This electrophysiological read-out is reported both in patients and in animal models such as the 6-OHDA rat model obtained with unilateral nigral injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Current treatments, based on dopaminergic replacement, transiently normalize this pathological beta activity and improve patients' quality of life., Objectives: We wanted to assess in vivo whether the abnormal beta oscillations can be correlated with impaired striatal or cortical excitability of the sensorimotor system and modulated by the pharmacological manipulation of the dopaminergic system., Methods: In the unilateral 6-OHDA rat model and control animals, we used intra-striatal and intra-cortical single-pulse electrical stimulation (SPES) and concurrent local field potentials (LFP) recordings. In the two groups, we quantified basal cortico-striatal excitability from time-resolved spectral analyses of LFP evoked responses induced remotely by intracerebral stimulations. The temporal dependance of cortico-striatal excitability to dopaminergic transmission was further tested using electrophysiological recordings combined with levodopa injection., Results: LFP evoked responses after striatal stimulation showed a transient reduction of power in a large time-frequency domain in the 6-OHDA group compared to the sham group. This result was specific to the striatum, as no significant difference was observed in cortical LFP evoked responses between the two groups. This impaired striatal excitability in the 6-OHDA group was observed in the striatum at least during the first 3 months after the initial lesion. In addition, the striatum responses to SPES during a levodopa challenge showed a transient potentiation of the decrease of responsiveness in frequencies below 40 Hz., Conclusion: The spectral properties of striatal responses to SPES show high sensitivity to dopaminergic transmission in the unilateral 6-OHDA rat model. We thus propose that this approach could be used in preclinical models as a time-resolved biomarker of impaired dopaminergic transmission capable of monitoring progressive neurodegeneration and/or challenges to drug intake., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest EG, JV, CH, YR, CR and VD are employees of SynapCell.
