Since the origins of universities, they have always enjoyed some degree of self-government and self-organization. Eight hundred years after the first universities were created, the States, aiming to interfere in their internal affairs, have deprived them of their autonomy. This paper tries to establish the main traits of the principle of University self rule and to differentiate it from the fundamental rights and "garant'as institucionales" (where the Spanish Constitution places it). Besides, we try to find the legal relation between self-rule and ballots as a procedure to elect the people who are to run the University. Finally, we give some reasons to justify the traditional separation between State and Academy. For this, it will be studied different election rules of governmental university organs through history in order to conclude that ballots inside universities are based in a corporate principle, but not in a democratic rule. This article replicates a previous study that investigated the proportion of bibliographic records from the National Union Catalog Pre-1956 Imprints in the OCLC WorldCat database and expands it to search a similar-sized sample of records in the RLIN database as well. The author seeks to determine the impact that the merger of the RLIN and OCLC databases will have on the ability to locate catalog records for older materials, and whether there are still significant numbers of library materials for which there are no online bibliographic records. The Core Standard for Rare Books, known as the DCRB Core standard, was approved by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging for use beginning in January 1999. Comparable to the core standards for other types of materials, the DCRB Core standard provides requirements for an intermediate level of bibliographic description for the cataloging of rare books. While the Core Standard for Books seems to have found a place in general cataloging practice, the DCRB Core standard appears to have met with resistance among rare book cataloging practitioners. This study investigates the extent to which such resistance exists by examining all of the DCRB Core records in the OCLC Online Union Catalog (WorldCat) and the Research Libraries Group Union Catalog (RLIN) databases that were created during the standard's first five years. The study analyzes the content of the records for adherence to the standard and investigates the ways in which the flexibility of the standard and cataloger's judgment augmented many records with more than the mandatory elements of description and access. The article considers the methods to improve access to illustrated books and book illustration collections at the Amon Carter Museum Library in Fort Worth, Texas. The article focuses on a pre-conference workshop that was co-sponsored by the Art and Architecture Program Committee (AAPC) of the Research Libraries Group (RLG) with the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) on March 9, 1991. La Vonne Gallo, information officer for the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN), coordinated the workshop. The aim of the workshop was to raise consciousness about art resources in the database and demonstrate search strategies by looking at actual art reference questions. Workshop attendees were encouraged to search files such as Archives and Manuscripts Control and Visual Materials as well as books and serials. Gallo ended the workshop by giving remarks on how to connect to RLIN. She also discussed the differences between searching Avery on RLIN and on DIALOG.

The article focuses on the special planning discussion about the use of research libraries information network for reference. Marcia Reed of the Getty Center Library is the main speaker at the session. She outlined the various uses of RLIN as art reference source and research tool. She also cited the diversity and richness of the RLIN databases for art and architecture librarians. In addition, she made some brief mentions of the other databases within RLIN.
