Abstract Background Mentalizing refers to the ability to understand one’s own and others’ mental states. Mentalizing is considered a key component of social cognition and healthy personality development. A multinational assessment tools able to appraise the multidimensional and multifaceted aspects of this complex construct are needed. Objective The present study had two aims: (a) validate an English version of the Multidimensional Mentalizing Questionnaire (MMQ, 33 items) which was designed to assess mentalizing based on an integrated and multilevel model of mentalizing; (b) explore the correlational relationships between the six dimensions of the MMQ and a set of sociodemographic, psycho-cognitive, mental health, and socio-functional variables. Methods Overall, 1823 individuals (age: 19–76 years old [M = 45; SD = 16]; sex: male = 48.51%, female = 50.57%, non-binary = 0.9%) participated in an online survey. While the participants came from 77 different countries, most of them were residents in UK and USA (95%). Data analytics include confirmatory factorial analysis and Pearson correlations. Results The CFA results validated the factorial structure of a 28-items MMQ-English version, with acceptable goodness of fit indices. Regarding the psychometric properties, the MMQ-English version showed good internal reliability and significant positive correlation with another scale designed to assess an analogue construct showing a fair convergent validity. The findings indicated that males, individuals with lower levels of education, lower socio-economic status, depressed, and with a higher score of loneliness are significantly more likely to report poor mentalizing compared with females, individuals with higher education level, greater SES, happier, and with lower scores of loneliness. Conclusion The present study validated the English version of the MMQ.

Abstract Background Online pornography use, an ever more common activity, has raised myriad psychosocial and clinical concerns. While there is a need to screen for and measure its problematic dimension, there is a debate about the adequacy of existing assessment tools. Objective The study compares two instruments for measuring pathological online pornography use (POPU) that are based on different theoretical frameworks—one in line with DSM-5 criteria and the six-component addiction model and one in line with ICD-11 criteria. Methods An international sample of 1,823 adults (Mean age = 31.66, SD = 6.74) answered an online questionnaire that included the Short Version of the Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale (PPCS-6) and the Assessment of Criteria for Specific Internet-Use Disorders (ACSID-11). Factorial, correlational, and network analyses were conducted on the data. Results Both tools adequately screened for online “addictive” behavior, but the ACSID-11 was superior in assessing the degree of clinical risk. Conclusion Depending on the specific aim of the assessment (screening vs. clinical diagnostics), both online pornography measurement tools may be useful.

Objective Despite the availability of thousands of mental health applications, the extent to which they are used and the factors associated with their use remain largely unknown. The present study aims to (a) assess in a representative US-based population sample the use of smartphone apps for mental health and wellbeing (SAMHW), (b) determine the variables predicting the use of SAMHW, and (c) explore how a set of variables related to mental health, smartphone use, and smartphone “addiction” may be associated with the use of SAMHW. Methods Data was collected via online questionnaire from 1989 adults. The data gathered included information on smartphone use behavior, mental health, and the use of SAMHW. Latent class analysis was used to categorize participants. Machine learning and logistic regression analyses were used to determine the most important predictors of SAMHW use and associations between predictors and outcome variables. Results While two-thirds of participants had a statistically high probability for using SAMHW, nearly twice more had high probability for using them to improve wellbeing compared to using them to address mental health problems (43% vs. 18%). In both groups, these participants were more likely to be female and in the younger adult age bracket than male and in the adult or older adult age bracket. According to the machine learning model, the most important predictors for using the relevant smartphone apps were variables associated with smartphone problematic use, COVID-19 impact, and mental health problems. Conclusion Findings from the present study confirm that the use of SAMHW is growing, particularly among younger adult and female individuals who are negatively impacted by problematic smartphone use, COVID-19, and mental health problems. These individuals tend to bypass traditional care via psychotherapy or psychopharmacology, relying instead on smartphones to address mental health conditions or improve wellbeing. Advising users of these apps to also seek professional help and promoting efforts to prove the efficacy and safety of SAMHW would seem necessary.

BackgroundProblematic smartphone use, like problematic internet use, is a condition for which treatment is being sought on the web. In the absence of established treatments, smartphone-provided tools that monitor or control smartphone use have become increasingly popular, and their dissemination has largely occurred without oversight from the mental health field. ObjectiveWe aimed to assess the popularity and perceived effectiveness of smartphone tools that track and limit smartphone use. We also aimed to explore how a set of variables related to mental health, smartphone use, and smartphone addiction may influence the use of these tools. MethodsFirst, we conducted a web-based survey in a representative sample of 1989 US-based adults using the crowdsourcing platform Prolific. Second, we used machine learning and other statistical tools to identify latent user classes; the association between latent class membership and demographic variables; and any predictors of latent class membership from covariates such as daily average smartphone use, social problems from smartphone use, smartphone addiction, and other psychiatric conditions. ResultsSmartphone tools that monitor and control smartphone use were popular among participants, including parents targeting their children; for example, over two-thirds of the participants used sleep-related tools. Among those who tried a tool, the highest rate of perceived effectiveness was 33.1% (58/175). Participants who experienced problematic smartphone use were more likely to be younger and more likely to be female. Finally, 3 latent user classes were uncovered: nonusers, effective users, and ineffective users. Android operating system users were more likely to be nonusers, whereas younger adults and females were more likely to be effective users. The presence of psychiatric symptoms did not discourage smartphone tool use. ConclusionsIf proven effective, tools that monitor and control smartphone use are likely to be broadly embraced. Our results portend well for the acceptability of mobile interventions in the treatment of smartphone-related psychopathologies and, potentially, non–smartphone-related psychopathologies. Better tools, targeted marketing, and inclusive design, as well as formal efficacy trials, are required to realize their potential.

The idea of microgrid, smart grid, and virtual power plant (VPP) is being developed to resolve the challenges of climate change in the 21st century, to ensure the use of renewable energy in the electrical grid. For the increasing demand for electricity, raising public consciousness about reducing carbon emission, the microgrid is established which is transformed into a virtual power plant (VPP) or a smart grid with the blessing of modern communication systems, intelligence technology, and smart devices. So, to keep these systems up-to-date and to ensure security, it is important to know the details about the uses and benefits of these systems in the developed world and also to improve control methods and automation, it is important to achieve the present essence of such systems. This paper is focused to contribute to this flourishing area of energy sustainability covering microgrid, smart grid, and virtual power plant by compiling and recapping their recent advancements, technical requirements, control problems, and solutions. The paper is mainly intended to address the role of control strategies applied to the microgrid, smart grid, and virtual power plant towards future energy generation, distribution, management, and security.

Crop productivity worldwide is being hampered by salt stress. Nanotechnology and its applications in agriculture are noteworthy and fruitful. The current work investigates the potential significance of TiO2 NPs in alleviating salt stress in wheat cultivars. TiO2 NPs were prepared by green synthesis; their characterizations were carried out by UV–visible spectroscopy, SEM, and EDX. In the greenhouse control condition, different concentrations of salt (NaCl) with and without TiO2 NPs were administered to wheat crops. Plants treated with TiO2 NPs showed an enhanced germination rate, morphological, and metabolic profiling with and without salt stress. Different concentrations of TiO2 NPs (25, 50, 75, and 100 µg/mL) and salt solutions (NaCl 50, 100, and 150 mM) were used. TiO2 NP concentrations of 25 µg/mL and 50 µg/mL improved the germination attributes, physio-morphic parameters: plant length, the fresh and dry weight of plants, the number of leaves, the leaf area, the RWC, the MSI, and different chlorophyll contents at all saline conditions. These two concentrations also enhanced the biochemical attributes: free amino acids, soluble sugar content, proline content, SOD, and POD, of wheat varieties at all salinity levels. Wheat subjected to salt stress responded best to the application of TiO2 NPs at a concentration of 50 µg/mL. However, the highest concentrations (75 and 100 µg/mL) of TiO2 NPs showed detrimental effects on germination, agronomic, physiological, and biochemical attributes, and caused stress in both wheat varieties (Pirsabak-05 and NARC-09) under control and saline conditions. The outcomes of the current research work are notable, and NPs with such capabilities may be a useful supply of fertilizer in the agricultural industry.

In this study, time-dependent, one-dimensional modeling of a surface dielectric barrier discharge (SDBD) device, driven by a sinusoidal voltage of amplitude 1–3 kV at 20 kHz, in argon is described. An SDBD device with two Cu-stripe electrodes, covered by the quartz dielectric and with the discharge gap of 20 × 10−3 m, was assumed, and the time-dependent, one-dimensional discharge parameters were simulated versus time across the plasma gap. The plasma device simulated in the given arrangement was constructed and used for biocompatible antibacterial/antimicrobial coating of plasmonic particle aerosol and compared with the coating strategy of the DBD plasma jet. Simulation results showed discharge consists of an electrical breakdown, occurring in each half-cycle of the AC voltage with an electron density of 1.4 × 1010 cm−3 and electric field strength of 4.5 × 105 Vm−1. With SDBD, the surface coating comprises spatially distributed particles of mean size 29 (11) nm, while with argon plasma jet, the nanoparticles are aggregated in clusters that are three times larger in size. Both coatings are crystalline and exhibit plasmonic features in the visible spectral region. It is expected that the particle aerosols are collected under the ionic wind, induced by the plasma electric fields, and it is assumed that this follows the dominant charging mechanisms of ions diffusion. The cold plasma strategy is appealing in a sense; it opens new venues at the nanoscale to deal with biomedical and surgical devices in a flexible processing environment.

Background. Knowledge of which bacteria are found in the airways of paediatric patients with bronchiectasis unrelated to cystic fibrosis (CF) is important in defining empirical antibiotic guidelines for the treatment of acute infective exacerbations. Objective. To describe the bacteria isolated from the airways of children with non-CF bronchiectasis according to their HIV status. Methods. Records of children with non-CF bronchiectasis who attended the paediatric pulmonology clinic at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa, from April 2011 to March 2013, or were admitted to the hospital during that period, were reviewed. Data collected included patient demographics, HIV status, and characteristics of the airway samples and types of bacteria isolated. Results. There were 66 patients with non-CF bronchiectasis over the 2-year study period. The median age was 9.1 years (interquartile range 7.2 - 12.1). The majority of patients (78.8%) were HIV-infected. A total of 134 samples was collected (median 1.5 per patient, range 1 - 7), of which 81.3% were expectorated or induced sputum samples. Most bacteria were Gram negatives (72.1%). Haemophilus influenzae was the most common bacterium identified (36.0%), followed by Streptococcus pneumoniae (12.6%), Moraxella catarrhalis (11.1%) and Staphylococcus aureus (10.6%). There were no differences between HIV-infected and uninfected patients in prevalence or type of pathogens isolated. Conclusion. Bacterial isolates from the airways of children with non-CF bronchiectasis were similar to those in other paediatric populations and were not affected by HIV status.

AIMS OF THE STUDY Self-harm is a major risk factor for suicide but remains poorly documented. No data on self-harm in French-speaking Switzerland exist. To address this deficiency, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health commissioned a specific self-harm monitoring programme. We present and discuss its implementation and first findings. METHODS Every patient aged 18–65 years presenting for self-harm to the emergency departments of the Lausanne and Neuchâtel general hospitals were included in the monitoring programme over a 10-month period (December 2016 to September 2017). Clinicians collected anonymous sociodemographic and clinical data. RESULTS The sample included 490 patients (54.9% female and 45.1% male) for 554 episodes of self-harm, showing a higher proportion of patients aged 18–34 (49.2%) than older age groups (35–49, 33.7% and 50–65, 17.1%). Patients were mostly single (56.1%) and in problematic socioeconomic situations (65.7%). The objective of this research is to evaluate the heat and mass transfer in a water-based Darcy–Forchheimer hybrid nanofluid (HNF) flow across an expanding cylinder. The fluid flow has been studied under the influence of a magnetic field, viscous dissipation, heat source, thermal radiation, concentration stratification, and chemical reaction. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and iron ferrite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (NPs) are added to the water, for the purpose of synthesizing the HNF. The fluid flow has been induced in the presence of gyrotactic microorganisms and the non-Fick’s model. Microorganisms are used to stabilize scattered nanoparticles through the hybrid nanofluid. The phenomena have been modeled in the form of a nonlinear system of partial differential equations (PDEs). The modeled equations are reduced to a dimensionless system of ODEs by using similarity substitution. The numerical solution of the derived sets of nonlinear differential equations is obtained by using the parametric continuation method. The impact of physical constraints on temperature, velocity, concentration, and microorganism profiles is presented through figures and tables. It has been observed that the heat and mass transport rates increase with the rising effect of the curvature parameter, while declining with the effect of the thermal stratification parameter.

Salinity stress is one of the primary threats to agricultural crops resulting in impaired crop growth and development. Although cotton is considered as reasonably salt tolerant, it is sensitive to salt stress at some critical stages like germination, flowering, boll formation, resulting in reduced biomass and fiber production. The mechanism of partial ion exclusion (exclusion of Na+ and/or Cl–) in cotton appears to be responsible for the pattern of uptake and accumulation of harmful ions (Na+ and Cl) in tissues of plants exposed to saline conditions. Maintaining high tissue K+/Na+ and Ca2+/Na+ ratios has been proposed as a key selection factor for salt tolerance in cotton. The key adaptation mechanism in cotton under salt stress is excessive sodium exclusion or compartmentation. Among the cultivated species of cotton, Egyptian cotton (Gossypium barbadense L.) exhibit better salt tolerance with good fiber quality traits as compared to most cultivated cotton and it can be used to improve five quality traits and transfer salt tolerance into Upland or American cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) by interspecific introgression. Cotton genetic studies on salt tolerance revealed that the majority of growth, yield, and fiber traits are genetically determined, and controlled by quantitative trait loci (QTLs). Molecular markers linked to genes or QTLs affecting key traits have been identified, and they could be utilized as an indirect selection criterion to enhance breeding efficiency through marker-assisted selection (MAS). Transfer of genes for compatible solute, which are an important aspect of ion compartmentation, into salt-sensitive species is, theoretically, a simple strategy to improve tolerance. The expression of particular stress-related genes is involved in plant adaptation to environmental stressors. As a result, enhancing tolerance to salt stress can be achieved by marker assisted selection added with modern gene editing tools can boost the breeding strategies that defend and uphold the structure and function of cellular components. The intent of this review was to recapitulate the advancements in salt screening methods, tolerant germplasm sources and their inheritance, biochemical, morpho-physiological, and molecular characteristics, transgenic approaches, and QTLs for salt tolerance in cotton.

Human activities and climate change have resulted in frequent and intense weather fluctuations, leading to diverse abiotic stresses on crops which hampers greatly their metabolic activities. Heat stress, a prevalent abiotic factor, significantly influences cotton plant biological activities resulting in reducing yield and production. We must deepen our understanding of how plants respond to heat stress across various dimensions, encompassing genes, RNAs, proteins, metabolites for effective cotton breeding. Multi-omics methods, primarily genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and phenomics, proves instrumental in studying cotton’s responses to abiotic stresses. Integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomic is imperative for our better understanding regarding genetics and molecular basis of heat tolerance in cotton. The current review explores fundamental omics techniques, covering genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, to highlight the progress made in cotton omics research. Fascioliasis is a parasitic infection that affects both livestock and humans. Understanding the distribution of Fasciola spp. can help the development of preventive measures to control fascioliasis. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the status of fascioliasis among livestock and humans in Pakistan between 2000 and 2020. Based on the selection criteria, 25 articles were selected from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus. This review included 76,099 animals, including 13,738 that were positive for fascioliasis. The overall prevalence was 18.1%; it was 0.3% in humans and 20.1% in livestock. Among animal hosts, the prevalence was highest in sheep (53.5%), followed by the goats (44.9%), cows (21.3%), buffaloes (16.8%), cattle (12.7%), and humans (0.3%). Sindh had the highest prevalence at 42.7%, followed by Baluchistan (25.2%), Punjab (17.7%), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (10.7%), and Islamabad capital territory (1.5%). In the Punjab province, sheep had the highest prevalence (65.7%); in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it was buffalo (15.9%); and in Baluchistan, it was cows (28.5%). The prevalence of Fasciola spp. was higher in Sindh and Baluchistan than in the other provinces. The presented results are essential for developing preventive approaches for the management of human health and minimizing economic loss in the livestock industry in Pakistan. Preventive-curative treatments two times a year followed by a prophylactic treatment at the end of the dry season are crucial throughout the areas of Pakistan that serve as hotspots for infection by Fasciola sp. For humans, regular, prioritized surveys must be performed for high-risk populations so that the real situation can be assessed and addressed in a timely manner.

The energy storage properties of (1−x)Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3–xBaTiO3(0≤x≤0.08) (BNT–BT) ceramics obtained via sol–gel method are determined from the polarization versus electric field (P–E) loops at various temperatures. The energy storage densities are observed to increase with increase in temperature and this may be attributed to the presence of antiferroelectric (AFE) phase at higher temperature (≥120∘C). Obvious changes are observed in the saturation polarization (Ps) and remnant polarization (Pr) with increasing temperature. The maximum energy storage density of 0.6J/cm3 is observed for x=0.06 in the AFE phase at 150∘C for 90kV/cm of applied electric field. BNT–BT can be a promising candidate for energy storage devices to be used in above-room-temperature environment.

Sīrah is the topic which started during 1st Hijrah, from that time till now there are several books written on this topic, there is no such personality in history other than Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whose biography from his birth till his death is preserved in such a manner. None of the aspect of his life is hidden, there was no such personality in history that was praised to such an extent. There are so many books written on the Sīrah of Holy Prophet (PBUH), but the one which was written by Allama Ibn-e-Kathir is indeed unique among them all. During his era there were too many books written on Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah but his command on Ḥadith and Fiqh made his work unique among others, he added authentic Aḥadith and narrations in his book and included such points which remained hidden from other authors. His book consists of 4 parts, and also includes Fiqh al Sīrah, which shows his great command over Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence). The work of Ibn-e-Kathir helps in deeply understanding the Sīrah of Prophet.

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is a significant fiber crop. Being a major contributor to the textile industry requires continuous care and attention. Cotton is subjected to various biotic and abiotic constraints. Among these, biotic factors including cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) are dominant. CLCuV is a notorious disease of cotton and is acquired, carried, and transmitted by the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). A cotton plant affected with CLCuVmay show a wide range of symptoms such as yellowing of leaves, thickening of veins, upward or downward curling, formation of enations, and stunted growth. Though there aremany efforts to protect the crop from CLCuV, long-term results are not yet obtained as CLCuV strains are capable of mutating and overcoming plant resistance. However, systemic-induced resistance using a gene-based approach remained effective until new virulent strains of CLCuV (like Cotton Leaf Curl Burewala Virus and others) came into existence. Disease control by biological means and the development of CLCuV-resistant cotton varieties are in progress. In this review, we first discussed in detail the evolution of cotton and CLCuV strains, the transmission mechanism of CLCuV, the genetic architecture of CLCuV vectors, and the use of pathogen and nonpathogen-based approaches to control CLCuD. Next, we delineate the uses of cutting-edge technologies like genome editing (with a special focus on CRISPR-Cas), next-generation technologies, and their application in cotton genomics and speed breeding to develop CLCuD resistant cotton germplasm in a short time. Finally, we delve into the current obstacles related to cotton genome editing and explore forthcoming pathways for enhancing precision in genome editing through the utilization of advanced genome editing technologies. The suspension of tiny solid particles inside the energy transport liquids could enhance their thermal conductivity as well as provide an efficient and inventive approach to significantly improve their properties of heat transport. Therefore, our aim is to explore the radiative two-dimensional unsteady flow of a viscous nanofluid about an aligned magnetic field that includes the joint effect of suction, velocity slip, and heat source across a porous convective stretching/shrinking surface. Initially, using non-dimensional variables, the nonlinear governing partial differential equations (PDEs) were transformed into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which were subsequently solved with the help of bvp4c built-in package in MATLAB. The results declare that escalating the values of the unsteadiness parameter escalates the friction drag whereas it reduces with the escalation of the slip parameter. Furthermore, the heat transfer rate escalates with the escalation of radiation and concentration parameter, and the escalation of the heat source parameter causes to reduce the heat transfer rate. Finally, it is found that the rate of heat transfer and friction drag continuously improve and decline against the rising rates of stretching, respectively.
