The government is currently focusing on improving the national railroad, one of which is the reactivation of rail lines that have been inactive for a long time in several locations around Java and Sumatra. One of the targets of this reactivation is to reduce congestion problems. The Padang – Bukittinggi route is indeed one of the reactivation plans for this railway line. The goal of the research is to find out how society sees the reactivation policy for the Padang – Bukittinggi rail line. This research depends on primary data collected through the distribution of questionnaires containing respondent characteristics and train mode preferences compiled using the Stated Preference technique, which consists of eight different scenarios with travel time, travel costs, and departure frequency attributes. According to the findings of this study, the time variable influences private vehicle users' preferences for reactivation policies for the Padang – Bukittinggi railway line. The time variable and the cost variable are the variables that influence public transportation users' preferences on the program of reactivation of the rail line. Possible alternatives, whether by user's private or public vehicles, to be chosen by the user the vehicle for taking the train: The trip takes less than 120 minutes and costs Rp. 8,000. While the most likely alternative to taking the train is an alternative with travel times ranging from 120 minutes to 150 minutes and a cost of Rp. 10,000. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
