Aim of the study The objective of this study is represented by the identification of the clinical aspects of the oral mucosa in patients with bruxism occurring during sleep. Material and methods. The study group was represented by a number of 70 patients, women and men. The oral examinations were performed on a number of 51 patients who self-reported bruxism during sleep at the Oral Rehabilitation Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry, “Ovidius” University in Constanța between January 2018 and January 2019. The collected data have were analyzed using the MICROSOFT-EXCEL program. Results. A number of 127 modifications in the oral mucosa were analyzed. The most frequent modifications were in the following regions: jugal mucosa (24%), inferior buccal alveolar mucosa (17%), superior buccal alveolar mucosa (10%), the dorsal surface of the tongue (10%). The presence of linea alba was observed in 51% of patients. The presence of geographic tongue (11.8%) and the presence of dental impressions (10.7%) was also observed. Conclusions. Oral mucosal modifications in patients with self-reported sleep bruxism are frequently found at the level of the jugal mucosa, inferior alveolar vestibular mucosa, superior alveolar vestibular mucosa and the dorsal surface of the tongue. Some of these modifications are manifestations in the context of bruxism, others have not been associated with bruxism until now.

The aim of this study was to determine the hardness of dentin using the Vickers hardness test. For dentin were obtained hardness values between 40-78VHN. In the case of dentin, after lifting the load was found a change of indentation geometry, a phenomenon explained by the elastic return of dentin. The return of the material takes place mainly and significantly, in the normal direction of the surface, on which the load is applied. The diagonals of the indentations, remains almost unchanged. The depth of the indentation immediately after penetration and after at an interval of 10 hours showed significant returns, approximately between 20-25%, lower, as the load applied to the hardness test increases, confirming that the dentin has better elastic returns at low loads, and its ability to restructure decreases as local tensions increase.

Aim of the study The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of autofluorescence in localisation of oral mucosal lesions at risk of malignancy. Material and methods 72 patients with oral lesions were examined using conventional light and the Oral ID device, complementing the conventional light examination. Results The concordance between the conventional light (CL) examination method and the examination method using the device based on the fluorescence of the oral mucosa was 88.9% with a Kappa coefficient of 0.755 for the tongue localization, 84.7% with a Kappa coefficient with the value 0.627 for the cheek localization, 97.3% with a Kappa coefficient with the value 0.911 for the oral floor localization, 100% with a Kappa coefficient with the value 1 for the palate and alveolar ridge localization, 97.2% with a coefficient Kappa with a value of 0.819 for the lower lip location, 98.6% with a Kappa coefficient with the value of 0.793 for the upper lip location. The average concordance between the two examination techniques is 95.24% with a Kappa coefficient with an average value equal to 0.84.Conclusions The concordance between the two examination methods was good for all the sites considered in this study. The use of the visualization method based on florescence of the oral mucosa improved the detection of oral lesion with locations difficult to examine under conventional light.

Aim. The aim of this research is to evaluate dental wear in a group of patients with self-reported sleep bruxism. Materials and methods. The study group consisted of a number of 37 patients, women and men, aged between 25 and 57 years, who self-reported bruxism during sleep. Results and discussion. Sextant III recorded the lowest mean and sextant V the highest mean for tooth wear grading scores. 91.9% of the participants presented generalized dental wear. The mild degree of tooth wear was most frequently encountered at sextant III, moderate wear was most frequently encountered at sextant V, and severe wear at sextant II and V. Conclusions. The most frequent score of dental wear recorded was represented by score 2. Most of the patients with self-reported bruxism in sleep presented generalized dental wear. The multitude of factors that can lead to sleep bruxism, as well as the effects that sleep bruxism produces in the oral cavity, create a varied context, which the dentist must interpret from a holistic perspective. This study reports a case of sleep bruxism diagnosed by positive self-report, clinical report, and technology report (use of portable electromyographic device), trying to identify personality traits and highlight those that scored differently from the possible medium scores recorded using the 5 Factor Personality Questionnaire. This study is conducted to determine the differences between the color parameters of the users of tobacco and/or nicotine products and the non-consumers in late adolescents. The spectrophotometer Vita easyshade V (VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG, Germany) was utilized in this work to measure the CIE L*, a*, b* values of the anterior teeth. Specifically, only the canines were selected and the determinations were on the vestibular surface. Each tooth was divided into three areas: cervical, central, and incisal. The selected option for the Vita easyshade V (VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG, Germany) was shade determination of the tooth area. The spectrophotometer was utilized in accordance with the guidelines provided by the manufacturer. A total of fifty-eight individuals took part in this study. Among them, 50% (n=29) participants, reported being consumers of tobacco and/or nicotine, while the remaining 50% (n=29) persons were not users. A statistically significant correlation in 1.3 central area L* is seen among consumers and non-consumers (p-value 0.012057). The objective of this study is to determine prevalent behaviors and knowledge of oral hygiene on the late adolescents. Only individuals in the late stage of adolescence, specifically between the ages of 18 and 24, that were students from the "Ovidius" University of Constanta were chosen. The involvement was optional. A printed questionnaire was provided for them to complete. A total of 50 participants took part in this study, consisting of 26% (n=13) males and 74% (n=37) females. When asked about their toothbrush preference, 50% (n=25) individuals indicated using just manual toothbrushes. Out of all individuals who have utilized orthodontic appliances, 70.8% (n=17) reported that the dentist recommended for them to receive professional dental hygiene care while undergoing treatment. 78.0% (n=39) individuals reported participating in oral hygiene meetings and would be interested for additional information regarding the topic. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the individual measures for periodontal health maintenance in adults. Materials and methods. Study participants (n=896) completed a questionnaire about personal oral hygiene practices and risk factors, such as smoking. Results and discussion. High percentage, 40% (n=357) of the subjects reported that they currently smoke, and 5% (n=43) reported that quit smoking. 25% of the subjects consider that they have excellent oral hygiene, 41% good oral hygiene, although the high mean of plaque index in smokers is 1.34 (SD 0.69) and in non-smokers -1.36 (SD 0.72). Young patients are using mainly dental floss (24% of them <35 years), compared with 45-55 and over 55, who are using mainly toothpicks. Average tooth brushing time is decreasing as age increases. Electric tooth brushing is used in a higher percentage by young patients, <35 years: 16% non-smokers, 30% smokers, 33% quit smokers. Conclusions. Introduction: The oral bacterial microbiota consists of 700 bacterial species, from which pathogenic bacterial species will be selected, as they initiate and maintain the infection of dental implants. The aim of the present study is to evaluate, by Odds Ratio, the causal relationship between the presence of pathogenic bacteria and mucositis/peri-implantitis, while establishing, by Risk Ratio, the extent to which pathogenic bacterial species may contribute to the unfavorable evolution of peri-implantitis. Materials and methods: The study group included 54 patients who were evaluated clinically and paraclinically seven days after the insertion of dental implants, and divided into three groups: with a favorable evolution, with mucositis and peri-implantitis. After the clinical examination, samples of peri-implant fluid and subgingival plaque were collected for bacteriological examination and included in a bacterial score consisting of five steps, depending on the pathogenicity of the identified bacterial species. Results and discussion: The Odds Ratio (72.2-bacterial score 3; 22.86-bacterial score 4) demonstrated the existence of a causal relationship between pathogenic bacterial species and mucositis/ peri-implantitis, while the by Risk Ratio (15.83-bacterial score 3; 15.90-bacterial score 4) showed that pathogenic bacteria represent an important risk factor in the unfavorable evolution of mucositis and peri-implantitis. Conclusions: The relationship between bacteria and infections following the insertion of dental implants is demonstrated by the high values of both Odds Ratio and Risk Ratio. Understanding the role that bacteria play in the etiopathogenesis of peri-implantitis is essential in developing strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of peri-implantitis. To evaluate the efficacy of autofluorescence in visualisation of oral mucosal lesions at risk of malignancy. The study group included 72 patients from Constanta who arrived for specialized consultation. They were examined using conventional light and Oral ID d evices, complementing conventional light examination. Pathological oral lesions occur more frequently in males in the 5th decade of life. The most common lesions were the ones that showed a clinical appearance of the tumor with associated signs of malignancy - 16.7%. In females, the higher frequency of pathological oral lesions has been reported on the cheek (7 cases of 27). There is no statistically significant difference between sexes regarding the site of pathological oral lesions on the tongue. On the palate and the oral floor, a higher frequency of pathological oral lesions was reported in males (3 cases - palate and 7 cases - oral floor, respectively). The use of the visualization method based on autoflorescence of the oral mucosa improved detection of the size and contour of the examined lesion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, dental anxiety has become a challenge for both patients and dental professionals faced with patients' frequent fear reactions. This complex phenomenon is a major topic of interest in recent research, that aims at investigating the factors which trigger and influence the continuity of dental anxiety. Consequently, the etiology of dental fear has been discussed from various viewpoints, including those related to socioeconomic status and culture, so that we integrated specific aspects related to the environment and to parents' behavioral repertoire that can affect the complexity of this phenomenon. This paper presents a series of intervention modalities and psycho-pedagogical strategies for preventing and reducing dental phobia in children. Dental phobia represents a category of phobic disorders that consists in experiencing an intense fear, up to real panic attacks, towards an event, a situation or a specific object. The therapeutic story is a way of specific intervention with very good results in the prevention and reduction of dental phobia in children, appearing as a beneficial tool, available to any parent. Therapeutic stories can therefore be used successfully by parents at home. The therapeutic fairy tale is specially created to contain a masked idea, expressed indirectly, meant at suggesting a change of behavior or attitude. This idea is presented in an unusual, unexpected context, which takes the child by surprise. Music therapy is a non-verbal therapy that uses sound and music in all their forms to promote, maintain and restore mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. The purpose of this article is to provide an updated 2016-2017 overview of oral lesions at risk of malignancy in a group of female patients from Constanta county, lesions identified by examination using conventional light or a device based on fluorescent light technology. The study group included 80 female patients from Constanta who arrived for specialized consultation. 52 cases were examined using conventional light and 28 cases using the Oral ID device, completing the conventional light examination. In this study, oral lesions are more common in the 5th and 6th decade. Regarding the clinical appearance of lesions, the most frequently recorded were the malignant tumors, without specifying their histopathological form, followed by ulcerations and papillomas. Regarding the sites of the oral lesions examined, the highest frequency is represented by the alveolar ridge (26% in 2017, 28% in 2016), followed by the tongue (20% in 2017, respectively 2017) and of jugal mucosa (20% in 2017 and 18% in 2016). Using the Oral ID device in this patient group has shown great sensitivity and a good visualization of the edges of the oral lesions. A correct evaluation of the tendency of the oral mucosal lesions at risk of malignancy among the female patients requires further studies on larger group and longer periods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to test the local toxicity of the hydroalcoholic solution of Epilobium parviflorum Schreb, this was first dehydrated by means of a rotary evaporator with a vertical condenser, thus obtaining a dry vegetable extract with a concentration of 10 mg / mL. Twelve rats were used, divided into two groups six rats for each, an experimental and a control group. All animals were anesthetized, and dental anesthesia was injected locally. The upper incisors were extracted, and then sockets were filled with a dry vegetable extract of Epilobium parviflorum Schreb, while the control groups were left unfilled. The findings indicate that local application of dry vegetable extract of Epilobium parviflorum Schreb would effectively accelerate the healing process in rat’s teeth socket, without inducing any pathological changes.
