Incremental Learning (IL) is an exciting paradigm that deals with classification problems based on a streaming or sequential data. IL aims to achieve the same level of prediction accuracy on streaming data as that of a batch learning model that has the opportunity to see the entire data at once. The performance of the traditional algorithms that can learn the streaming data is nowhere comparable to that of batch learning algorithms. Reducing the regret of IL is a challenging task in real-world applications. Hence developing an innovative algorithm to improve the ILs performance is a necessity. In this paper, we propose a multi-tier stacked ensemble (MTSE) algorithm that uses incremental learners as the base classifiers. This novel algorithm uses the incremental learners to predict the results that get combined by the combination schemes in the next tier. The meta-learning in the next tier generalizes the output from the combination schemes to give the final prediction. We tested the MTSE with three data sets from the UCI machine learning repository. The results reveal that MTSE is superior in performance over the SE learning.

Oceanic natural hazards pose threats to coastal communities worldwide. These include earthquakes, tsunamis, submarine landslide, volcanic eruptions, and tropical cyclones. Scientific ocean drilling can contribute to our understanding and assessment of these hazards through rapid response measurements of hazardous events, learning from past hazard records, and sub-seafloor monitoring and observation. With the impending retirement of the D/V JOIDES Resolution and operational limitations of the D/V Chikyu, it is important to consider other options for achieving scientific ocean drilling goals. We convened a workshop in Lisbon, Portugal, in July 2022 to identify locations where natural hazards, or preferably several different hazards, can be addressed with mission-specific platform (MSP) drilling, with a consideration of further location-based workshops. Participants split into three working groups to develop hypotheses surrounding climate and tropical cyclones, slope failure, and processes at active margins that can be tested with MSP drilling and can be addressed using the unique capabilities of these platforms. We produced 13 questions or hypotheses with recommendations on specific areas or locations for drilling. Our hope is that the results of this workshop will lay the groundwork for future pre-proposals.

Modern methods of computational photography make it possible to bring the quality of images obtained by mobile cameras closer to the quality of professional cameras. One of the most important tasks is that of ensuring the consistency of colors from different cameras. In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient way to bring the colors of one camera to another, based on the approximation of the required transformation by a tone correction spline and a color transformation matrix. An experimental study was carried out in a rather complicated case, in which it was required to match colors of the images obtained from two fundamentally different sensors, as well as using diffractive optics. The results of the experiments showed that the proposed method allows one to obtain a higher accuracy of color matching between cameras than existing analogues.

A spatiotemporal ecosystem health (EH) assessment study is necessary for sustainable development and proper management of natural resources. At present higher rate of human-socio-economic activities, industrialization, and misuse of land are major factors for ecosystem degradation. Therefore this research work used remote sensing (RS) and geographical information system (GIS) technology, under pressure-state-response (PSR) framework with analytic hierarchy process (AHP) weight method based on 29 indicators were analyzed for spatiotemporal EH assessment in Tatarstan and Samara states in Russia from 2010 to 2020. Results indicate continuous degradation of EH in Tatarstan state while in Samara state first decreased and later on an improved ecosystem health condition. This is one of the most innovative analyses work for real-time accurate ecosystem health assessment, mapping, and monitoring as well as protect fragile eco-environment with sustainable development, proper policy-making, and management at any scale and region.

Abstract Erianthus arundinaceus [Retzius] Jeswiet, a wild relative of sugarcane has a high biomass production potential and a reservoir of many genes for superior agronomic traits and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. A comparative physiological, anatomical and root transcriptome analysis were carried out to identify the salt-responsive genes and metabolic pathways associated with salt-tolerant E. arundinaceus genotype IND99-907 and salinity-sensitive sugarcane genotype Co 97010. IND99-907 recorded growth of young leaves, higher proline content, higher relative water content, intact root anatomical structures and lower Na+/K+, Ca2+/K+ and Mg2+/K+ ratio as compared to the sugarcane genotype Co 97010. Introduction A 9-year-old girl under pediatric follow-up since the age of 4 years after diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 1 Objectives To present a case of neurofibromatosis and ADHD comorbidity to raise awareness of the importance of screening for neurodevelopmental disorders. Methods Case report and literature review Results The patient had an adequate control and follow-up of the disorder with periodic check-ups and magnetic resonance imaging during her follow-up. She was referred due to symptoms of inattention with failure to perform exams and impulsivity in interpersonal relationships, affecting her social functioning. In addition, the patient presented simple motor tics of eye contraction and shoulder elevation. The patient was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder together with tic disorder. She was treated with stimulant medication with worsening of tics and marked hyporexia. Therefore, medication with guanfacine was started up to 4 mg per day, adjusted by weight. With this dose there was a control of the tics, with improvement of the symptoms of inattention and impulsivity. In different spheres an improvement in their functionality was observed, with improvement in mood, self-esteem and academic performance. Conclusions Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a rare monogenic disorder with a varied presentation (ophthalmologic, dermatologic and predisposition to tumor development). Patientshave been shown to present with symptoms of inattention and executive function impairment, along with other neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities or intellectual disability. Introduction 15-year-old female referred to outpatient unit after COVID lockdown for binge eating and purging with depressive symptoms and anxiety. Objectives To show the importance of a correct diagnosis in an impulsive patient with eating disorder Methods case report and literature review Results The patient presents emotional instability with interpersonal difficulties with high fear of rejection. She suffered from fear of gaining weight and desires to lose weight with rejection of her body image. Fluoxetine and lorazepam are started together with low doses of olanzapine. During the follow up she presented a worsening of mood, onset of self-injuries and an episode of suicidal attempt. A biographical examination was performed, expressing a feeling of academic failure with difficulty concentrating and performing simple tasks. As a child she is described as impulsive, with frequent arguments with classmates. CPT III was performed with a high probability of ADHD. Treatment was started with lisdexamfetamine up to 50 mg with good tolerance. From the beginning of the treatment the patient expressed a feeling of improvement in the control of emotions as well as in the management of her impulsivity. There was an improvement in her academic performance with a decrease in self-injury episodes. The patient was able to express improvement in the sense of incapacity she felt. Conclusions This case shows how marked emotional dysregulation and impulsive symptoms improves after diagnosis and subsequent treatment of ADHD, also improving eating symptoms. ADHD is present in eating disorders, especially in those with impulse dyscontrol such as binge eating disorder or bulimia nervosa. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Introduction INTRODUCTION: Patients with autistic spectrum disorders may exhibit symptoms that can also appear in psychotic disorders, such as isolation and difficulties in social interaction. In addition, these patients may also present psychotic symptoms throughout their lives, sometimes difficult to differentiate from the patient’s own idiosyncrasies. Objectives OBJECTIVES: To deepen the knowledge of the comorbidity of autism spectrum disorders, in particular psychosis, as well as the differential diagnosis in order to establish an adequate treatment plan and a multidisciplinary approach. Methods METHODS: A detailed description is given of two cases of adolescents diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder who have presented time-limited psychotic symptomatology in the last year. In addition, a literature search was conducted on the comorbidity of psychosis in patients with ASD. Results RESULTS: Both patients have required several hospital admissions to psychiatric units when they have had psychotic decompensations and psychopharmacological treatment with antipsychotics has been initiated. Conclusions CONCLUSIONS: Patients with autistic spectrum disorders have a wide comorbidity. Psychosis can appear in these patients, often starting in adolescence, a time when social demands increase and patients can become decompensated. They require rapid, multi-level intervention. Introduction Electroconvulsive therapy is a proven treatment for mood and psychotic disorders in adult patients. It is estimated that in children and adolescents this type of therapy is underutilised despite the fact that the most recent studies have supported the success of ECT in these patients. A case is described of a 15-year-old male patient diagnosed with psychotic disorder who was previously treated with several antipsychotics, including clozapine, and finally treated with electroconvulsive therapy. Objectives Review of the clinical indications of electroconvulsive therapy in children and adolescents with psychotic or mood disorders through a clinical case of a patient admitted to a Psychiatric Short Stay Unit Methods Detailed psychopathological description of the case as well as the treatments used (psychotropic drugs and electroconvulsive therapy). Results After the administration of electroconvulsive therapy, an improvement in both positive and negative psychotic symptomatology was observed, with a decrease in soliloquies and an improvement in affective flattening. Conclusions Electroconvulsive therapy is an effective treatment in adolescent patients with psychotic and mood disorders, which should be considered as indicated as an effective treatment. Introduction 16-year-old female who starts psychiatric follow-up due to episodes of anxiety crises with dizziness and tremors. Objectives To expose a case in which it is essential to rule out organic pathology in cases where there is anxiety and physical symptoms. Methods Case report and literature review Results The patient explains that she was in a situation of conflict with her ex-partner, commenting that he did not accept the breakup. Sertraline was prescribed in ascending doses up to 100 mg per day with complete remission of anxiety. 8 months later, she went to the emergency room for loss of consciousness and tremor of the lower limbs. She was diagnosed with conversive disorder and was prescribed lorazepam up to 3 mg per day. Since then, there has been a worsening in the frequency of syncope occurring up to 10 times a day, limiting her academic and social life. She was evaluated by a cardiologist who diagnosed Pots Syndrome (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and started treatment with ivabradine and mineralocorticoids. With this treatment, the episodes were drastically reduced and spaced out to 1-2 per week. The dose of lorazepam is decreased until its withdrawal without worsening of the anxious symptomatology. Conclusions This disorder consists of an involvement of the autonomic nervous system in which there is a sudden drop in blood pressure together with an abrupt increase in heart rate. Its treatment is based on increasing blood volume with drugs such as corticosteroids as well as postural measures with adequate water intake. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Genetic resources are the fundamental source of diversity available to plant breeders for the improvement of desired traits. However, a large germplasm set is difficult to preserve and use as a working collection in genetic studies. Hence, the present study evaluates the genetic diversity of 3115 safflower accessions from the Indian National Gene Bank, including Indian cultivars, to develop a manageable set of accessions, with similar genetic variations of germplasm studied. A total of 18 polymorphic SSR markers were used. The genetic diversity analysis revealed that germplasm accessions were highly diverse and there is no correlation between genetic diversity and the geographical collection of germplasm or sourcing of germplasm. A core set was developed using a core hunter software with different levels of composition, and it was found that 10% of the accessions showed maximum gene diversity and represented an equal number of alleles and major allele frequency in the germplasm studied. The developed core consisted of 351 accessions, including Indian cultivars, and they were validated with various genetic parameters to ascertain that they were a true core set for the studied accessions of safflower germplasm.

The impetus towards sustainable energy production and energy access has led to considerable research and development on decentralized generators, in particular diffuser-augmented wind turbines. This paper aims to characterize the performance of diffuser-augmented wind turbines (DAWTs) using high-lift airfoils employing a three-step computational analysis. The study is based on computational fluid dynamics, and the analysis is carried out by solving the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) equations in two dimensions. The rotor blades are modeled as an actuator disk, across which a pressure drop is imposed analogous to a three-dimensional rotor. We study the change in performance of the enclosed turbine with varying diffuser cross-sectional geometry. In particular, this paper characterizes the effect of a flange on the flow augmentation provided by the diffuser. We conclude that at the end of the three-step analysis, Eppler 423 showed the maximum velocity augmentation.

Background With recurrence rates after primary cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in excess of 50 per cent, repeat CRS is being performed increasingly, but survival outcomes have not been reported widely. This study examined the outcomes following repeat CRS for appendiceal cancer with peritoneal surface malignancy (PSM), and evaluated its feasibility and safety. Methods A retrospective cohort of patients who had surgery between 1996 and 2018 were analysed. Patients who underwent a single CRS procedure with or without heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) were compared with those who had multiple procedures with or without HIPEC. Perioperative morbidity and survival outcomes were analysed. Results Some 462 patients were reviewed, 102 of whom had repeat procedures. For high‐grade tumours, patients who had a single CRS procedure had significantly reduced overall survival (OS) compared with those who had repeat CRS (55·6 versus 90·7 months respectively; P = 0·016). For low‐grade tumours, there was no difference in OS (P = 0·153). When patients who had a single procedure were compared with those who had multiple procedures, there was no significant difference in major morbidity (P = 0·441) or in‐hospital mortality (P = 0·080). For multiple procedures, no differences were found in major morbidity (P = 0·262) or in‐hospital mortality (P = 0·502) when the first procedure was compared with the second. Abstract Background The treatment with recombinant human growth hormone in patients affected by Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) is considered whenever a concurrent diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency is demonstrated. The short- and long-term effects of recombinant human growth hormone in this selected cohort is still debated, given the natural progression of disease-related skeletal malformations and the paucity of treated patients reported in literature. The presented case series provides detailed information about the response to recombinant growth hormone in MPS patients diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. Cases presentation The growth patterns of 4 MPS female patients (current age: 11.7–14.3 years) treated with recombinant human growth hormone due to growth hormone deficiency have been retrospectively analyzed. Two patients, diagnosed with MPS IH, had undergone haematopoietic stem cell transplantation at an early age; the remaining two patients were affected by MPS IV and VI and were treated with enzyme replacement therapy. 4/4 patients presented with a progressive growth deceleration before the diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency was confirmed. This trend was initially reverted by a remarkable increase in height velocity after the start of recombinant growth hormone. We recorded an average increase in height velocity z-score of + 4.23 ± 2.9 and + 4.55 ± 0.96 respectively after 6 and 12 months of treatment. After the first 12–24 months, growth showed a deceleration in all the patients. While in a girl with MPS IH recombinant human growth hormone was discontinued due to a lack in clinical efficacy, 3/4 patients grew at a stable pace, tracking the height centile achieved after the cited initial increase in height velocity. Furthermore, mineral bone density assessed via bone densitometry, showed a remarkable increase in the two patients who were tested before and after starting treatment. Conclusions Recombinant human growth hormone appears to have effectively reverted the growth deceleration experienced by MPS patients diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency, at least during the first 12–24 months of treatment.

This work presents the first detailed map of the Holocene eruptions of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain). It provides complete and detailed information for all 24 Holocene eruptions of Gran Canaria, improving the knowledge of this recent volcanism and the assessment of volcanic hazards on the island. This map is a synthesis of collated and interpreted field data and topographic maps. We have integrated information obtained from: (1) detailed geological field surveys, (2) morphometric analysis of eruptive deposits, (3) high-resolution digital elevation models, and (4) aerial photographs.

Fabry disease (FD) [OMIM 301500] is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme alpha-galactosidase A, resulting in progressive multisystem accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3). Although the introduction of Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) resulted in a variety of clinical benefits, life-long intravenous (IV) treatment with ERT with an every other week schedule, may interfere with daily life activities and impact on QoL. We report here a multicentric, observational, longitudinal data analysis on a large cohort of 85 Italian FD patients (45 males, 40 females) from 11 out of 20 Italian regions, who received a cumulative number of 4269 home infusions of agalsidase alfa. For the whole cohort, the average duration of home therapy was 1 year and 11 months (range 3 months–4 years and 6 months), and during this period, compliance to treatment (number of infusions performed vs scheduled) reached 100%. The EQ-5 VAS scale was administered to patients to evaluate the self-reported QoL, 58% of patients showing an increase of EQ-5 VAS score at follow up compared to baseline (home treatment start) or remaining stable. In this study, carbon nano fibers (CNFs) were mixed into epoxy resin through a magnetic stirrer and again mixed using ultra sonicator. Using hand layup technique, biaxial braided fiber composites were prepared with unfilled, 0.2, 0.5 and 1 wt% CNF. Tensile test and shear test was performed to identify the tensile strength and shear strength of the composites. Fractured surface of the tensile specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy to identify morphologies of nanoparticles. A discrete three layer model was developed for prediction of the tensile modulus and shear modulus of biaxial braided fiber composites. Theoretical and experimental values were compared. The experimental and theoretical results show that the addition of CNF in the epoxy matrix had significant influences on the mechanical properties of biaxial carbon braided fiber composites. CNF inclusion with braided composite promoted the tensile modulus, tensile strength, shear modulus and shear strength up to 0.5wt% of the biaxial carbon braided fiber composites.

Abstract Background This post hoc subanalysis examined outcomes in adult patients with Morquio A (mucopolysaccharidosis IVA) who received enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with elosulfase alfa over a 120-weeks period. Patients ≥18 years of age evaluated in an open-label, long-term extension study of elosulfase alfa (modified per protocol [MPP], n = 32; intent-to-treat [ITT], n = 37; MOR-005; NCT01415427) were compared with the ≥18-year-old untreated population with 2-years follow-up from a Morquio A natural history study (n = 10; MorCAP; NCT00787995). The MOR-005 MPP population excluded patients who underwent orthopedic surgical procedures or were noncompliant with study protocol (defined as missing ≥20% of ERT infusions). No MorCAP patients underwent orthopedic surgical procedures during the relevant time period. Endurance was assessed by the 6-min walk test (6MWT) and 3-min stair climb test (3MSCT). Activities of daily living (ADLs) were assessed by the MPS Health Assessment Questionnaire (MPS HAQ). Results Least squares (LS) mean (SE) 6MWT distances increased by 34.9 (11.7) m (MPP) and 30.5 (10.8) m (ITT) by week 120; LS mean (SE) change in 3MSCT at week 120 was 6.7 (1.8) stairs/min (MPP) and 5.9 (1.7) stairs/min (ITT). MorCAP patients showed no improvement in 6MWT distance or 3MSCT over a similar period of time. Pulmonary function measures remained unchanged in both MOR-005 and MorCAP adults. All MPS HAQ domain scores improved in MOR-005 adults, whereas MorCAP adults had unchanged caregiver assistance and mobility outcomes and worsened self-care outcomes. Conclusions Long-term ERT in adult patients with Morquio A was associated with increased endurance and improvement in performance of ADLs. Trial registration Trial Registration NCT01415427 . Background.Schools are important settings for increasing reach and uptake of adolescent mental health interventions. There is limited consensus on the focus and content of school-based mental health services (SBMHSs), particularly in low-resource settings. This study elicited the views of diverse stakeholders in two urban settings in India about their priorities and preferences for SBMHSs.Methods.We completed semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with adolescents (n = 191), parents (n = 9), teachers (n = 78), school counsellors (n = 15), clinical psychologists/psychiatrists (n = 7) in two urban sites in India (Delhi and Goa). Qualitative data were obtained on prioritized outcomes, preferred content and delivery methods, and indicated barriers.Results.All stakeholders indicated the need for and acceptability of SBMHSs. Adolescents prioritized resolution of life problems and exhibited a preference for practical guidance. Parents and teachers emphasized functional outcomes and preferred to be involved in interventions. In contrast, adolescents' favored limited involvement from parents and teachers, was related to widespread concerns about confidentiality. Face-to-face counselling was deemed to be the most acceptable delivery format; self-help was less frequently endorsed but was relatively more acceptable if blended with guidance or delivered using digital technology. Structured sensitization was recommended to promote adolescent's engagement. Providers endorsed a stepped care approach to address different levels of mental health need among adolescents.Conclusion.SBMHSs are desired by adolescents and adult stakeholders in this setting where few such services exist. Sensitization activities are required to support implementation. School counsellors have an important role in identifying and treating adolescents with different levels of mental health needs, and a suite of interventions is needed to target these needs effectively and efficiently.

The soil moisture dataset that is generated via the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) of the European Space Agency (ESA) (ESA CCI SM) is a popular research product. It is composed of observations from 10 different satellites and aims to exploit the individual strengths of active (radar) and passive (radiometer) sensors, thereby providing surface soil moisture estimates at a spatial resolution of 0.25°. However, the annual updating cycle limits the use of the ESA CCI SM dataset for operational applications. Therefore, this study proposes an adaptation of the ESA CCI product for daily global updates via satellite-derived near-real-time (NRT) soil moisture observations. In order to extend the ESA CCI SM dataset from 1978 to present we use NRT observations from the Advanced Scatterometer on-board the two MetOp satellites and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 on-board GCOM-W. Since these NRT observations do not incorporate the latest algorithmic updates, parameter databases and intercalibration efforts, by nature they offer a lower quality than reprocessed offline datasets. In addition to adaptations of the ESA CCI SM processing chain for NRT datasets, the quality of the NRT datasets is a main source of uncertainty. Our findings indicate that, despite issues in arid regions, the new CCI NRT dataset shows a good correlation with ESA CCI SM. The average global correlation coefficient between CCI NRT and ESA CCI SM (Pearson's R) is 0.80. An initial validation with 40 in situ observations in France, Spain, Senegal and Kenya yields an average R of 0.58 and 0.49 for ESA CCI SM and CCI NRT, respectively. In summary, the CCI NRT product is nearly as accurate as the existing ESA CCI SM product and, therefore, of significant value for operational applications such as drought and flood forecasting, agricultural index insurance or weather forecasting.

Isolation method of starch with different agents influences starch properties, which provide attention for studying the most appropriate method for isolation of starch. In the present study sweet potato starch was isolated by Sodium metabisulphate (M1), Sodium chloride (M2), and Distilled water (M3) methods and these were assessed for functional, chemical, pasting and structural properties. M3 yielded the greatest recovery of starch (10.20%). Isolation methods significantly changed swelling power and pasting properties but starches exhibited similar chemical properties. Sweet potato starches possessed C-type diffraction pattern. Small size granules of 2.90 μm were noticed in SEM of M3 starch. A high degree positive correlation was found between ash, amylose, and total starch content. The study concluded that isolation methods brought changes in yield, pasting and structural properties of sweet potato starch.

Tsunamis related to volcano flank collapse are typically a high-magnitude, low frequency hazard for which evaluation and mitigation are difficult to address. In this short communication, we present field evidences of a large tsunami along the southern coast of Mauritius Island ca. 4400 years ago. Tsunami deposits described include both marine conglomerates and coral boulders up to 90 m3 (> 100 tons). The most probable origin of the tsunami is a flank collapse of Piton de la Fournaise volcano, Réunion Island.

Increasing human activities along the coasts of the world provoke the necessity to assess tsunami hazard from different sources (earthquakes, landslides, volcanic activity). In this paper, we simulate tsunamis generated by underwater volcanic explosions from (1) a submerged vent in a shallow water lake (Karymskoye Lake, Kamchatka), and (2) from Kolumbo submarine volcano (7 km NE of Santorini, Aegean Sea, Greece). The 1996 tsunami in Karymskoye lake is a well-documented example and thus serves as a case study for validating the calculations. The numerical model reproduces realistically the tsunami run-ups measured onshore. Systematic numerical study of tsunamis generated by explosions of the Kolumbo volcano is then conducted for a wide range of energies. Results show that in case of reawakening, the Kolumbo volcano might represent a significant tsunami hazard for the northern, eastern and southern coasts of Santorini, even for small-power explosions.
