The nucleus $^{180}$Hf is one of the most primary of examples of an axially symmetric prolate rotor. Combined with the presence of high-$K$ isomers, spectroscopic studies can provide important information on the nature of its single-particle levels. Precise measurements are essential for constraining nuclear models and interpreting the nature of such isomeric states. In this work, the nucleus $^{180}$Hf was populated using the proton pick-up reaction $^{181}$Ta($^{11}$B,$^{12}$C)$^{180}$Hf at beam energy of 47 MeV at Horia Hulubei National Institute of Nuclear Physics and Engineering (IFIN-HH). The spin of the 1374 keV state and the mixing ratio of the $1066$ keV transition have been measured, the latter with an increased precision compared to the previous value from literature. The presently measured spin of the 1374 keV state, currently assigned a tentative value of $(4^-_1)$, favors one of the two different values reported in the literature. The particular state constitutes the band-head of a rotational band in $^{180}$Hf. The measured multipolarity mixing ratio of the inter-band transition $1374 \rightarrow 309$ keV can provide important information for the testing and constraining of theoretical nuclear models used for the study of the intrinsic properties of $^{180}$Hf as well as its neighboring isotopes.

The effective prompt response function full width at half maximum, PRF FWHM of 637 ps (obtained from the prompt gamma pairs of 477 keV and 700 keV associated with the yrast 2+ state in 206Po), and 1007 ps (obtained from the Compton gamma pairs of 189 keV and 237 keV associated with the 192Os(18O,16O)194Os 2 neutron transfer reaction) were used in fitting the time difference spectra obtained from the gamma coincident pairsof 206 keV and 374 keV in a symmetrised LaBr3(Ce) associated with the gamma transitions in 192Os, using the Half-life program. The values of half-life measured by fitting these PRF FWHM of 637 ps and 1007 ps separately show an excellent agreement of 282(16) ps and 272(21) ps, respectively, which correspond to the global half-life value of 282(4) ps for the 192Os. The mean value of 277(12) ps from these two measurements was used in calculating the B(E2; IL ->IL-2) of 4233(114) e2fm4, which is equivalent to be 81(19) W.u.

The structure of Po-208 populated through the EC/beta(+) decay of At-208 is investigated using gamma-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station. The presented level scheme contains 27 new excited states and 43 new transitions, as well as a further 50 previously observed. rays which have been (re)assigned a position. The level scheme is compared to shell model calculations. Through this analysis approximately half of the beta-decay strength of At-208 is found to proceed via allowed decay and half via first-forbidden decay. The first-forbidden transitions predominantly populate core excited states at high excitation energies, which is qualitatively understood using shell model considerations. This mass region provides an excellent testing ground for the competition between allowed and first-forbidden beta-decay calculations, important for the detailed understanding of the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements.

Fast-timing measurements at the focal plane of a separator can suffer from poor timing resolution. This is due to the variations in time-of-flight (ToF) for photons travelling to a given detector, which arise from the changes in the implantation positions of the recoil nuclei emitting the γ rays of interest. In order to minimise these effects on timing measurements, a procedure is presented that improves fast-timing data by performing ToF corrections on an event-by-event basis. This method was used to correct data collected with an array of eight LaBr 3 detectors, which detected γ rays from spatially distributed 138Gd recoil-implants at the focal plane of the Recoil-Ion-Transport-Unit (RITU) spectrometer. The Generalised Centroid Difference (GCD) method was used to extract a lifetime from data in conjunction with a new procedure to calibrate the time walk. The lifetime of the first 2 + state in 138Gd, populated by the decay of the K π = 8 − isomeric state, was measured to be 229(24) ps using the ToF-corrected data, which is consistent within three standard deviations to the literature value. The results together with Monte-Carlo simulations show that the ToF correction procedure reduced the uncertainty in the measured lifetimes by 3 % in the case of the spatially distributed nuclei at the focal plane of RITU. However, ∼ 12 % has been estimated for a similar experiment when using a larger focal plane i.e. the Super-FRS at the FAIR facility.

This Δn=0 requirement plays a major role in the β decay of heavy neutron-rich nuclei, affecting the nucleosynthesis through the increased half-lives of nuclei on the astrophysical r-process pathway below both Z=50 (for N>82) and Z=82 (for N>126). The level of forbiddenness of the Δn=1ν1g →π0g transition has been investigated from the β decay of the ground state of Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus Tl in an experiment at the ISOLDE Decay Station. From statistical observational limits on possible γ-ray transitions depopulating the π0g state in Tl, an upper limit of 3.9×10 % was obtained for the probability of this decay, corresponding to log⁡ft>8.8 within a 95% confidence limit. International audience; Lifetimes of the low-energy levels in Nd136, populated in the reaction Te124(O16,4n), were measured with the ROSPHERE array at the Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH), Bucharest-Magurele. The data were analyzed using the recoil distance Doppler shift method, and, in the cases where lifetimes were τ⩽1 ps, Doppler attenuation effects were taken into account. The deduced electromagnetic transition probabilities are discussed in the framework of the five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (5DCH) theoretical model implemented with the D1S Gogny force, and detailed systematics of several observables in the even-even Nd isotopic chain are presented that highlight the transitional character of the neutron-deficient Nd isotopes. The 5DCH predictions are in overall good agreement with the present experimental results.

Medium and high spin states of the Y96 nucleus, located in the shape-coexistence region near Z=40 and N=60, were populated in thermal-neutron-induced fission of U233 and U235 targets, diluted in a scintillator. γ rays were measured with the FIssion Product Prompt γ-ray Spectrometer (FIPPS) high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector array, using double and triple γ-ray coincidence techniques and taking advantage of the efficient fission tag provided by the scintillating target material. A complex level scheme, extending up to 5.2 MeV and including excitations above the 8+β-decaying isomer, was investigated, and firm spin and parity assignments were given to a number of states, on the basis of angular correlation analysis and considerations on the γ-decay patterns. While the structures built on the 0− ground state and the 8+ isomer show irregular patterns typical for spherical shapes, the (6+) isomeric state at 1655 keV [with half-life of 181(9) ns], and the rotational band built on it [with spin-parity values between (6+) and (9+)], can be explained by Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations, if an oblate deformation is assumed. This is the first observation of a deformed structure in an N=57 isotone, lying three neutrons away from the N=60 line. An important finding is also the 115-keV transition which connects the (6+) 181(9)-ns isomer to the β-decaying 8+ spherical isomer, allowing us to firmly place the latter at 1541 keV excitation energy. This may be relevant for calculations of electron and antineutrino spectra from fission of actinides, for which Y96 is a prominent product.

The β decay of ^{208}Hg into the one-proton hole, one neutron-particle _{81}^{208}Tl_{127} nucleus was investigated at CERN-ISOLDE. Shell-model calculations describe well the level scheme deduced, validating the proton-neutron interactions used, with implications for the whole of the N>126, Z

The $^{86}\mathrm{Zr}$ nucleus, which has a low-lying level scheme characteristic of a transitional nucleus, presents, according to the existing electromagnetic transition data, a subunitary ${\mathrm{B}}_{4/2}=B(E2,{4}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{2}_{1}^{+})/B(E2,{2}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{0}_{1}^{+})$ ratio, which is anomalously low for a nonmagic nucleus, as it is outside the range of the traditional collective models values. In order to check this anomaly, we performed new measurements of the lifetimes of its low-lying states, with the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray coincident recoil distance Doppler shift method, using the ROSPHERE detector array. New lifetimes were determined for the positive-parity yrast states up to the ${10}^{+}$ one, and for the ${8}_{2}^{+},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{5}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and ${7}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states. The newly determined values of the $B(E2)$ values for the ${2}_{1}^{+}$ and ${4}_{1}^{+}$ states characterize a nucleus with a moderate quadrupole deformation and are well described by the interacting boson model. The ratio ${B}_{4/2}=1.38(22)$ is no longer anomalous. The low $B(E2)$ value of the ${6}_{1}^{+}$ state indicates a noncollective structure.

The low-spin structure of the semimagic ^{64}Ni nucleus has been considerably expanded: combining four experiments, several 0^{+} and 2^{+} excited states were identified below 4.5 MeV, and their properties established. The Monte Carlo shell model accounts for the results and unveils an unexpectedly complex landscape of coexisting shapes: a prolate 0^{+} excitation is located at a surprisingly high energy (3463 keV), with a collective 2^{+} state 286 keV above it, the first such observation in Ni isotopes. The evolution in excitation energy of the prolate minimum across the neutron N=40 subshell gap highlights the impact of the monopole interaction and its variation in strength with N.

The β decay of 207Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus 207Tl has been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the πs−11/2, πd−13/2, and πh−111/2 shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. Two octupole states (s1/2-coupled) are identified and three more states (d3/2-coupled) are tentatively assigned using spin-parity inferences, while further h11/2-coupled states may also have been observed for the first time. Comparisons are made with state-of-the-art large-scale shell model calculations and previous observations made in this region, and systematic underestimation of the energy of the octupole vibrational states is noted. We suggest that in order to resolve the difference in predicted energies for collective and noncollective t=1 states (t is the number of nucleons breaking the 208Pb core), the effect of t=2 mixing may be reduced for octupole-coupled states. The inclusion of mixing with t=0,2,3 excitations is necessary to replicate all t=1 state energies accurately.

The level structure of La-130 has been investigated using the (121)sb(C-12, 3n) reaction with the ROSPHERE array at IFIN-HH, Bucharest. the level scheme was significantly extended with the observation of 45 new states and 100 new transitions. Several band structures have been identified and a clear connection with the lower-lying states has been established. A lifetime of tau = 3.6(2) ns has been measured for the 346-keV 6(-) state by the in-beam fast timing technique. the lifetimes of 18 high-spin states have been determined by applying the Doppler-shift attenuation method. the deformations derived from the experimental B(E2) transition strengths indicate distinct coexisting shapes at high spins in La-130. the experimental properties of both low- and high-spin states were compared with theoretical calculations performed in the frame of the two-quasiparticles-plus-rotor model. Two new negative-parity decoupled bands, with a deduced quadrupole deformation beta(2) = 0.150(15), were interpreted by coupling the proton in the 1/2[550] and 3/2[541] orbitals with the odd neutron occupying mainly the low-Omega orbitals from the d(3/2) and 5(1/2) states. A quadrupole deformation beta(2) = 0.220(17) was derived for a newly identified positive-parity decoupled band. This enhanced deformation was attributed to the involvement in the band configuration of the Omega = 1/2 (f(7/2), h(9/2)) intruder neutron orbital. the multiparticle configuration pi g(7/2)(h(11/2))(2) circle times nu (h(11/2)) was assigned to a high-spin negative-parity dipole band, based on the comparison of the experimental B(M1) transition strengths with values calculated by applying the geometrical model of Donau and Frauendorf., Ministry of Education and Research, Romania [PN-19-06-01-02], Authors are thankful to the FN Tandem staff of the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering for the good quality delivered beam. The exotic decay modes were studied by using a charged particle array (DSSD and pad detectors) and a ¿-detector array (four Clovers) at the ISOLDE decay station (IDS). In this report, results on observed ß-delayed particle emission from 115Cs, a nucleus close to proton drip line, is presented. By measuring the time distribution in the delayed proton spectrum, the half-life of the ground state of 115Cs was extracted. The obtained half-life is in agreement with previous reported value. The ROmanian array for SPectroscopy in HEavy ion REactions (ROSPHERE) has been designed as a multi-detector setup dedicated to γ-ray spectroscopy studies at the Bucharest 9 MV Tandem accelerator. Consisting of up to 25 detectors (either Compton suppressed HPGe detectors or fast LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detectors) together with a state of the art plunger device, ROSPHERE is a powerful tool for lifetime measurements using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift (RDDS) and the in-beam Fast Electronic Scintillation Timing (FEST) methods. The array's geometry, detectors, electronics and data acquisition system are described. Selected results from the first experimental campaigns are also presented.

The structure of $^{34}$Si was studied through $\gamma$ spectroscopy separately in the $\beta^-$ decays of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in $^{34}$Si were populated independently from the two recently identified $\beta$-decaying states in $^{34}$Al having spin-parity assignments $J^\pi = 4^-$ dominated by the normal configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (f_{7/2})$ and $J^\pi = 1^+$ by the intruder configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (d_{3/2})^{-1}(f_{7/2})^{2}$. The paper reports on spectroscopic properties of $^{34}$Si such as an extended level scheme, spin and parity assignments based on log($ft$) values and $\gamma$-ray branching ratios, absolute $\beta$ feeding intensities and neutron emission probabilities. A total of 11 newly identified levels and 26 transitions were added to the previously known level scheme of $^{34}$Si. Large scale shell-model calculations using the {\sc sdpf-u-mix} interaction, able to treat higher order intruder configurations, are compared with the new results and conclusions are drawn concerning the predictive power of {\sc sdpf-u-mix}, the $N=20$ shell gap, the level of mixing between normal and intruder configurations for the 0$_1^+$, 0$_2^+$ and 2$_1^+$ states and the absence of triaxial deformation in $^{34}$Si.

Mean lifetimes of yrast states of the isotopes 174,176,178,180Hf have been measured using fast- electronic scintillation timing. Excited states of 74,176,178Hf were populated via β decay, while 180Hf was populated via Coulomb excitation. The lifetimes of the 2+ 1 and 4+ 1 states of all isotopes and the lifetimes of the 6+ 1 states of 174,178Hf were measured, using the slope and the centroid shift methods. The mean lifetime, τ (4+ 1 ) = 85(13) ps, of 178Hf has been determined for the first time. In addition, the mean lifetimes of the 2− 1 and the 3− 1 states of 176Hf have been determined. Systematic uncertainties on the evolution of data as a function of neutron number were reduced by using the same setup for all the isotopes of interest. The data are in agreement with other recent lifetime measurements where available and shows a shift of the maximum of collectivity for the Hf isotopic chain from neutron midshell at N = 104 to N = 100.

Excited states in Sn-133 were investigated through the beta decay of In-133 at the ISOLDE facility. The ISOLDE Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) provided isomer-selective ionization for In-133, allowing us to study separately, and in detail, the beta-decay branch of In-133 J(pi)= (9/2(+)) ground state and its J(pi) = (1/2(-)) isomer.Thanks to the large spin difference of the two beta-decaying states of In-133, it is possible to investigate separately the lower and higher spin states in the daughter, Sn-133, and thus to probe independently different single-particle and single-hole levels. We report here new gamma transitions observed in the decay of In-133, including those assigned to the deexcitation of the neutron-unbound states.

International audience; Excited states of the rubidium isotopes$_{37}^{87, 89, 91}$Rb have been studied at the INFN Legnaro National Laboratory. Measurements of the $\gamma$ -ray decay of fragments produced in binary grazing reactions resulting from the interaction of a beam of 530 MeV$^{96}$Zr ions with a$^{124}$Sn target have been complemented by studies of the $\gamma$ -ray decay of fission fragments produced in the interaction of a beam of 230 MeV$^{36}$S ions with a thick$^{176}$Yb target. The structure of the yrast states of$_{37}^{87, 89, 91}$Rb has been discussed within the context of spherical shell-model and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

The C-12(alpha,gamma)O-16 reaction plays a central role in astrophysics, but its cross section at energies relevant for astrophysical applications is only poorly constrained by laboratory data. The reduced a width, gamma(11), of the bound 1(-) level in O-16 is particularly important to determine the cross section. The magnitude of gamma(11) is determined via sub-Coulomb a-transfer reactions or the beta-delayed a decay of N-16, but the latter approach is presently hampered by the lack of sufficiently precise data on the beta-decay branching ratios. Here we report improved branching ratios for the bound 1(-) level [b(beta,11) = (5.02 +/- 0.10) x 10(-2)] and for beta-delayed alpha emission [b(beta alpha) = (1.59 +/- 0.06) x 10(-5)]. Our value for b(beta alpha) is 33% larger than previously held, leading to a substantial increase in gamma(11). Our revised value for gamma(11) is in good agreement with the value obtained in a-transfer studies and the weighted average of the two gives a robust and precise determination of gamma(11), which provides significantly improved constraints on the C-12(alpha,gamma) cross section in the energy range relevant to hydrostatic He burning.

Target manufacturing is one fundamental issue in nuclear physics experiments using accelerators. A variety of targets are required, each having to satisfy specific conditions related to the experimental particularities. In this context, a brief description of the target preparation laboratory developed at IFIN-HH is presented in this paper. To fulfill the specific requirements, the laboratory is endowed with high performance equipment for evaporation-condensation (thermal resistance, e-based systems, sputtering) and cold rolling. During the last years, consistent technological improvements were achieved. Target characteristics, quality and reliability are important for our experiments’ feasibility in the first place, but also for the degree of confidence in the assumed accuracy. Consequently, XRD, AFM, SEM/EDX and RBS analyses are performed in collaboration with specialized departments from our institute and from other research centers.This paper is meant to synthetize our work so far.

Lifetimes of several short-lived excited states in Nd138 were measured with the ROSPHERE array at IFIN-HH, Bucharest, using the recoil-distance Doppler shift technique following the Sb123(F19,4n) reaction. The resulting electromagnetic transition probabilities are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and to constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with the Gogny D1S interaction, configuration mixing, and a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. The onset of collectivity in Nd isotopes below the N=82 shell closure and the deformation induced by the alignment of protons and neutron holes in the h11/2 orbitals are discussed.

WOS: 000450997800001, The lifetimes of the excited states belonging to the chiral-candidate doublet bands built on the pi h(11/2) circle times vh(11/12)(-1) configuration in La-130 have been measured by applying the Doppler-shift attenuation method and the in-beam fast timing technique. Excited states were populated in the Sb-121(C-12, 3n) reaction at a bombarding energy of 54 MeV. The 7(+) bandhead of the yrast band was identified as an isomeric state with a lifetime of tau(7(+)) = 0.38(7) ns Similar reduced transition probabilities B(M1) and B(E2) were found for the states with the same spin in the partner bands. The results revealed an even-odd spin dependence in the B(E2) values, whereas the B (M1) values vary nearly monotonically with increasing spin. The experimental properties of the doublet bands in La-130 are compared with theoretical calculations done in the frame of the two-quasiparticles-plus-triaxial-rotor model. This paper describes present capabilities of the new Target Preparation Laboratory constructed at Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Bucharest-Magurele, Romania. Self-supporting or backed targets are produced in the laboratory, using thermal evaporation, electron-gun evaporation, sputtering or cold rolling techniques. At present, it is possible to prepare layers with a wide range of thicknesses from several tens of µg/cm2 to several hundreds of mg/cm2. As an example, we briefly describe a 40Ca target preparation.

The existence of two close-lying nuclear states in ⁷³Ga has recently been experimentally determined: a 1/2⁻ spin-parity for the ground state was measured in a laser spectroscopy experiment, while a J_π = 3/2⁻ level was observed in transfer reactions. This scenario is supported by Coulomb excitation studies, which set a limit for the energy splitting of 0.8 keV. In this work, we report on the study of the excited structure of ⁷³Ga populated in the β decay of ⁷³Zn produced at ISOLDE, CERN. Using β-gated, γ-ray singles, and γ –γ coincidences, we have searched for energy differences to try to delimit the ground-state energy splitting, providing a more stringent energy difference limit. Three new half-lives of excited states in ⁷³Ga have been measured using the fast-timing ;method with LaBr₃(Ce) detectors. From our study, we help clarify the excited structure of ⁷³G and we extend the existing ⁷³Zn decay to ⁷³Ga with 8 new energy levels and 35 γ transitions. We observe a 195-keV transition consistent with a γ ray de-exciting a short-lived state in the β-decay parent ⁷³Zn.

The properties of excited states in the neutron-rich nucleus 194Os have been investigated using the 192Os(18O,16O)194Os reaction with an 80 MeV beam provided by the IFIN-HH Laboratory, Bucharest. Discrete γ -ray decays from excited states have been measured using the hybrid HPGe-LaBr3(Ce) array RoSPHERE. The current work identifies a number of previously unreported low-lying nonyrast states in 194Os as well as the first measurement of the half-life of the yrast 2+ state of 302(50) ps. This is equivalent to a B(E2 : 2+ → 0+) = 45(16) W.u. and intrinsic quadrupole deformation of βeff = 0.14(1). The experimental results are compared with Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov–interacting-boson-model calculations and are consistent with a reduction in a quadrupole collectivity in Os isotopes with increasing neutron number.

Cross sections for 147,149 Sm(p,n) 147,149 Eu and 147,149 Sm(p, γ ) 148,150 Eu were measured using the activation method. The results are compared to the predictions of the Hauser-Feshbach statistical model. Different γ -ray strength functions have been tested against the experimental values. In the case of 150 Eu, in order to reproduce the experimental isomeric population cross sections, various scenarios for unknown branching ratios of certain discrete states have been discussed. The results provide constraints for the optical model parameters dedicated to this insufficiently known area of isotopes. Such cross sections for (p, γ ) reactions at energies below the Coulomb barrier are valuable for p -process nucleosynthesis calculations.

The lifetime $\ensuremath{\tau}({0}_{2}^{+})$ of $^{152}\mathrm{Gd}$ has been measured using fast electronic scintillation timing (FEST) with an array of high-purity germanium (HPGe) and cerium-doped lanthanum bromide (${\mathrm{LaBr}}_{3}$) detectors. $^{152}\mathrm{Gd}$ was produced via an $(\ensuremath{\alpha},n)$ reaction on a gold backed $^{149}\mathrm{Sm}$ target. The measured lifetime of $\ensuremath{\tau}({0}_{2}^{+})=96(6)\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}\mathrm{ps}$ corresponds to a reduced transition strength of $B(E2;{0}_{2}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{2}_{1}^{+})=111(7)$ W.u. and an $E0$ transition strength of ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{2}(E0)=39(3)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ to the ground state. This result provides experimental support for the validity of a correlation that would be a novel indicator for a quantum phase transition (QPT).

V. et al. ; 14 págs.; 10 figs.; 6 tabs., Beta-delayed proton emission from Mg has been measured at ISOLDE, CERN, with the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) setup including both charged-particle and gamma-ray detection capabilities. A total of 27 delayed proton branches were measured including seven so far unobserved. An updated decay scheme, including three new resonances above the proton separation energy in Na and more precise resonance energies, is presented. Beta-decay feeding to two resonances above the Isobaric Analogue State (IAS) in Na is observed. This may allow studies of the 4032.9(2.4)keV resonance in Ne through the beta decay of Mg, which is important for the astrophysically relevant reaction O(α,γ)Ne. The Zirconium isotopes across the N=56,58 neutron sub­shell closures have been of special interest since years, sparked by the near doubly-magic features of 96Zr and the subsequent rapid onset of collectivity with a deformed ground-state structure already in 100Zr. Recent state-of-the-art shell model approaches did not only correctly describe this shape-phase transition in the Zr isotopic chain, but alsothe coexistence of non-collective structures and pronounced collectivity especially in 96,98Zr. Theisotope 98Zr is located on the transition from spherical to deformed ground state structures. We summarize recent experimental work to obtain the B(E2) excitation strengths of the first 2+ state of98Zr, including a new experiment employing the recoil-distance Doppler-shift method following a two-neutron transfer reaction.

The $1{i}_{\frac{13}{2}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1{h}_{\frac{9}{2}}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}(M2)$ and $3{s}_{\frac{1}{2}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}2{f}_{\frac{7}{2}}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}(E3)$ reduced proton transition probabilities in $_{83}^{209}\mathrm{Bi}$ have been determined from the direct half-life measurements of the ${\frac{13}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ and ${\frac{1}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ states using the Romanian array for $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray SPectroscopy in HEavy ion REactions (RoSPHERE). The ${\frac{13}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ and ${\frac{1}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ states were found to have ${T}_{\frac{1}{2}}=0.120(15)$ ns and ${T}_{\frac{1}{2}}=9.02(24)$ ns respectively. Angular distribution measurements were used to determine an $E3/M2$ mixing ratio of $\ensuremath{\delta}=\ensuremath{-}0.184(13)$ for the 1609 keV $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray transition deexciting the ${\frac{13}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ state. This value for $\ensuremath{\delta}$ was combined with the measured half-life to give reduced transition probabilities of $B(E3,{\frac{13}{2}}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\frac{9}{2}}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}})=12(2)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{3}\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}{e}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{fm}}^{6}$ and $B(M2,{\frac{13}{2}}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\frac{9}{2}}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}})=38(5){\ensuremath{\mu}}_{N}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{fm}}^{2}$. These values are in good agreement with calculations within the finite Fermi system. The extracted value of $B(E3,{\frac{1}{2}}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\frac{7}{2}}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}})=6.3(2)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{3}\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}{e}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{fm}}^{6}$ can be explained by a small ($\ensuremath{\sim}6%$) admixture in the wave function of the ${\frac{1}{2}}_{1}^{+}$ state.

We report on the measurement of the half-life of the yrast I π = 5 − state in the transitional nucleus 136 Ce using a combined HPGe-LaBr3(Ce) scintillator gamma-ray detection array. The measured value for the E 1 decay is approximately half a nanosecond, which corresponds to an E 1 decay strength of approximately 2 × 10 − 6 Wu. This value is in line with single-particle type E 1 decays in this mass region and suggests no sign of additional K-hindrance associated with axially symmetric quadrupole deformations observed for lighter cerium isotopes.

Low-energy isomeric states of 86Y were populated in the reaction 73Ge + 16O at 57MeV and were investigated by means of delayed n $ \gamma$ and $ \gamma$ $ \gamma$ coincidences. A half-life of 70(7)ns was measured for the 5- state at 208keV, yielding an exceptionally small B(M1) value of 2.0(7)×10-5 W.u. and a B(E2) value of 0.34(+24 -13) W.u. For the other three known isomeric states at 218, 243, and 302keV, the half-lives extracted from the present experimental data are in very good agreement with previous measurements. Given the newly observed isomeric character of the 5- 208keV state, the re-analysis of earlier experimental data on the 302keV isomer led to a new spin-parity assignment, 6+, for this state. In addition, this re-evaluation provided two g -factors, -0.083(3) and +0.63(2) , for the 208 and 302keV states, respectively. The results are discussed in terms of spherical-shell model calculations performed with a truncated space of configurations built on the f 5/2 , p 3/2 , p 1/2 , and g 9/2 valence orbitals. Effective spin, orbital, and “tensor” g -factors were determined empirically for protons and neutrons in the considered configuration space.

The low-lying positive- and negative-parity states in $^{168}\mathrm{Yb}$ have been investigated by means of the $(\ensuremath{\alpha},2\mathrm{n}\ensuremath{\gamma})$ fusion evaporation reaction. Using the coincidence method, the level scheme was corrected and extended up to 3 MeV, for both the positive- and negative-parity states. Using the new branching ratios determined in the present experiment, the $K$ quantum number was proposed for two negative-parity bands by direct comparison with the Alaga rule. Like in some other nuclei, one negative-parity band was established, decaying predominantly to the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-vibrational band. In a second experiment, the lifetimes of the low-lying excited states up to ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={6}^{+}$ in the ground-state band were measured by using the in-beam fast-timing method with the Bucharest mixed high-purity germanium (HPGe) and ${\mathrm{LaBr}}_{3}$:Ce detector array using the triple-$\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence method. Reduced $E2$ transition probabilities were extracted from the measured lifetimes and compared with the corresponding observables in neighboring isotopes, showing a smooth behavior with increasing mass. The positive- and negative-parity states as well as $E1$ and $E2$ transition probability ratios revealed by these experiments are compared with the interacting boson model in the $sd$ and $spdf$ boson space, and with the confined beta-soft rotor model, and are found to be in good agreement.

The half-lives o fthe I=5- and 7- yrast stateys with Ex=1978 kev and Ex=2307 keV in the N=78 isotone 136Ce have been measured to be 496(23) ps and 270(24) ps respectively , using the concident fast-timing spectroscopy technique following population by a 124Sn(16O,4n) fusion-evporation reaction at an incident beam energy of 68 MeV.

The results of the IS530 experiment at ISOLDE revealed new information concerning several nuclei close to the N ≈ 20 'Island of Inversion' - 34Mg, 34Al, 34Si. The half-life of 34Mg was found to be three times larger than the adopted value (63(1) ms instead of 20(10) ms). The beta-gamma spectroscopy of 34Mg performed for the first time in this experiment, led to the first experimental level scheme for 34Al, also showing that the full beta strength goes through the predicted 1+ isomer in 34Al [1] and/or excited states that deexcite to it. The subsequent beta-decay of the 1+ isomer in 34Al allowed the observation of new gamma lines in 34Si, (tentatively) associated with low-spin high-energy excited states previously unobserved.

Gamma-ray coincidence techniques are used to determine new level structures in the N = 81 nucleus 139Ce, at low spins and excitation energies with the 139La(p, nγ) reaction at 5.0 and 6.0MeV incident energy, and at high spins with the 130Te(12C, 3nγ) reaction at 50.5MeV, respectively. Lifetime determinations are also made in the (p, nγ) reaction with the centroid DSA method. The observed level structures are discussed by comparison with existing calculations and with those in the neighbouring nucleus 140Ce.

The odd-A neutron-rich members of this isotopic chain show typical patterns related to non-axially symmetric shapes, which are however less marked compared to even-A ones, pointing to a major contribution from vibrations. In the present paper we present results from a recent study focused on Cs β-decay performed at the ISOLDE Decay Station equipped with fast-timing detectors. Absolute cross sections for the 86 Sr(α,n)89 Zr reaction at energies close to the Gamow window are reported. Three thin SrF2 targets were irradiated using the 9 MV Tandem facility in IFIN-HH Bucharest that delivered α beams for the activation process. Two high-purity Germanium detectors were used to measure the induced activity of 89 Zr in a low background environment. The experimental results are in very good agreement with Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations performed with the TALYS code.

Low- and medium-spin states of the odd-odd nucleus $^{130}\mathrm{La}$ were studied by in-beam and pulsed-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy using the $^{121}\mathrm{Sb}(^{12}\mathrm{C},3n)$ and $^{116}\mathrm{Sn}(^{16}\mathrm{O},pn)$ fusion-evaporation reactions. The decay out of the $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{h}_{11/2}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{g}_{7/2}$ rotational structures to the ground state has been elucidated. Spin and parity values have been assigned to most of the newly observed states, as well as to the bandheads of the rotational bands. Two isomeric states were identified and placed in the level scheme, with the characteristics ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={5}^{+},{E}_{x}=214.0$ keV, ${T}_{1/2}=0.76(9)$ $\ensuremath{\mu}$s and ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={6}^{+},{E}_{x}=319.1$ keV, ${T}_{1/2}=33(1)$ ns. The magnetic and quadrupole interactions of the ${6}^{+}$ isomeric state have been investigated by the time-differential perturbed $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray angular distribution method. The $g$ factor value, $g({6}^{+})=+0.48(3)$, and the quadrupole coupling constant in polycrystalline metallic Sn lattice, ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{Q}({6}^{+})=37(4)$ MHz, have been derived. The experimental data are compared with the predictions of two-quasiparticles plus rotor model calculations.

A new level scheme of 80Ga has been determined. This nucleus was populated following the β− decay of 80Zn at ISOLDE, CERN. The proposed level scheme is significantly different compared to the previously reported one and contains 26 levels up to 3.4 MeV in excitation energy. The present study establishes that the previously identified 1.9-s β− -decaying 6− isomer is the ground state of 80Ga and the 1.3-s β− -decaying 3− isomer lies at an excitation energy of 22.4 keV. A new isomeric level was identified at 707.8 keV and its half-life was measured to be 18.3(5) ns, allowing the 685.4-keV transition de-exciting this state to be assigned anM2 multipolarity. The newly measured spectroscopic observables are compared with shell-model calculations using the jj44bpn and JUN45 interactions.

The half-lives of the 9/2 + , 13/2+ , and 15/2+ yrast states in the neutron-rich 67Cu nucleus were determined by using the in-beam fast-timing technique. The experimentally deduced E3 transition strength for the decay of the 9/2+ level to the 3/2- ground state indicates that the wave function of this level might contain a collective component arising from the coupling of the odd proton p3/2 with the 3- state in 66Ni. Theoretical interpretations of the 9/2+ state are presented within the particle-vibration weak-coupling scheme involving the unpaired proton and the 3- state from 66Ni and within shell-model calculations with a 56Ni core using the jj44b residual interaction. The shell model also accounts reasonably well for the other measured electromagnetic transition probabilities.

International audience; The neutron-rich nucleus 81Ga was populated from the β-decay of 81Zn produced at the ISOLDE (CERN) facility. The analysis of β-gated γ-ray singles and γ-γ coincidences permits to extend significantly the level scheme of 81Ga as well as to provide a new half-life for 81Zn. A preliminary upper limit was obtained for the half-life of the first excited state in 81Ga.
