Abstract: The low-lying structure of 15C has been investigated via the neutron-removal 16C(d,t) reaction. Along with the known bound neutron sd-shell states, unbound p-shell hole states have been observed. The excitation energies and the deduced spectroscopic factors of the cross-shell states are an important measure of the [(p)−1(sd)2] neutron configurations in 15C. Our results show a very good agreement with shell-model calculations using the SFO-tls interaction for 15C. However, this same interaction predicted energies that were too low for the corresponding hole states in the N=9 isotone 17O and adjustment of the p-sd and sd-sd monopole terms was required to match the 17O energies. In addition, the excitation energies and spectroscopic factors have been compared to the first calculations of 15C with the ab initio self-consistent Green's function method employing the NNLOsat interaction. The results show the sensitivity to the size of the N=8 shell gap and highlight the need to go beyond the current truncation scheme.

Abstract: The isovector and isoscalar components of neutron-proton pairing are investigated in the N=Z unstable nuclei of the fp-shell through the two-nucleon transfer reaction (p,3He) in inverse kinematics. The combination of particle and gamma-ray detection with radioactive beams of 56Ni and 52Fe, produced by fragmentation at the GANIL/LISE facility, made it possible to carry out this study for the first time in a closed and an open-shell nucleus in the fp-shell. The transfer cross-sections for ground-state to ground-state (J=0+, T=1) and to the first (J=1+, T=0) state were extracted for both cases together with the transfer cross-section ratios σ(0+,T=1)/σ(1+,T=0). They are compared with second-order distorted-wave born approximation (DWBA) calculations. The enhancement of the ground-state to ground-state pair transfer cross-section close to mid-shell, in 52Fe, points towards a superfluid phase in the isovector channel. For the “deuteron-like” transfer, very low cross-sections to the first (J=1+, T=0) state were observed both for 56Ni(p,3He) and 52Fe(p,3He) and are related to a strong hindrance of this channel due to spin-orbit effect. No evidence for an isoscalar deuteron-like condensate is observed.

Abstract: The first investigation of the single-particle structure of the bound states of 17C, via the d(16C,p) transfer reaction, has been undertaken. The measured angular distributions confirm the spin-parity assignments of 1/2+ and 5/2+ for the excited states located at 217 and 335 keV, respectively. The spectroscopic factors deduced for these states exhibit a marked single-particle character, in agreement with shell model and particle-core model calculations, and combined with their near degeneracy in energy provide clear evidence for the absence of the N=14 sub-shell closure. The very small spectroscopic factor found for the 3/2+ ground state is consistent with theoretical predictions and indicates that the ν1d3/2 strength is carried by unbound states. With a dominant ℓ=0 valence neutron configuration and a very low separation energy, the 1/2+ excited state is a one-neutron halo candidate.

Abstract: Intermediate energy single-neutron removal from 31Mg has been employed to investigate the transition into the N=20 island of inversion. Levels up to 5 MeV excitation energy in 30Mg were populated and spin-parity assignments were inferred from the corresponding longitudinal momentum distributions and γ-ray decay scheme. Comparison with eikonal-model calculations also permitted spectroscopic factors to be deduced. Surprisingly, the 02+ level in 30Mg was found to have a strength much weaker than expected in the conventional picture of a predominantly 2p−2h intruder configuration having a large overlap with the deformed 31Mg ground state. In addition, negative parity levels were identified for the first time in 30Mg, one of which is located at low excitation energy. The results are discussed in the light of shell-model calculations employing two newly developed approaches with markedly different descriptions of the structure of 30Mg. It is concluded that the cross-shell effects in the region of the island of inversion at Z=12 are considerably more complex than previously thought and that np−nh configurations play a major role in the structure of 30Mg.

Abstract: Intense and purified radioactive beam of post-accelerated 14O was used to study the low-lying states in the unbound 15F nucleus. Exploiting resonant elastic scattering in inverse kinematics with a thick target, the second excited state, a resonance at ER=4.757(6)(10) MeV with a width of Γ=36(5)(14) keV was measured for the first time with high precision. The structure of this narrow above-barrier state in a nucleus located two neutrons beyond the proton drip line was investigated using the Gamow Shell Model in the coupled channel representation with a 12C core and three valence protons. It is found that it is an almost pure wave function of two quasi-bound protons in the 2s1/2 shell.

Abstract: The strength functions of the πf5/2, πp3/2 and πf7/2 orbitals in neutron-rich 71Cu were obtained in a 72Zn(d,3He)71Cu proton pick-up reaction in inverse kinematics using a radioactive beam of 72Zn at 38 MeV/u. A dedicated set-up was developed to overcome the experimental challenges posed by the low cross section of the reaction and the low energy of the outgoing 3He particles. The excitation-energy spectrum was reconstructed and spectroscopic factors were obtained after analysis of the angular distributions with the finite-range Distorted-Wave Born Approximation (DWBA). The results show that unlike for the πf5/2 orbital and contrary to earlier interpretation, the πf7/2 single-particle strength distribution is not appreciably affected by the addition of neutrons beyond N=40.

Abstract: The reduced transition probabilities B ( E 2 ; 0 g.s. + → 2 1 + , 2 2 + ) in Zn 70 and the full B ( E 2 ; 0 g.s. + → 2 + ) strength up to S n = 7.79 MeV in Ni 68 have been determined at the LISE/GANIL facility using the Coulomb-excitation technique at intermediate beam energy on a Pb 208 target. The γ rays emitted in-flight were detected with an array of 46 BaF 2 crystals. The angles of the deflected nuclei were determined in order to disentangle and extract the Coulomb and nuclear contributions to the excitation of the 2 + states. The measured B ( E 2 ; 0 g.s. + → 2 1 + ) of 1432(124) e 2 fm 4 for Zn 70 falls in the lower part of the published values which clustered either around 1600 or above 2000 e 2 fm 4 , while the B ( E 2 ; 0 g.s. + → 2 2 + ) of 53(7) e 2 fm 4 agrees very well with the two published values. The relatively low B ( E 2 ; 0 g.s. + → 2 1 + ) of 301(38) e 2 fm 4 for Ni 68 agrees with previous studies and confirms a local magicity at Z = 28 , N = 40 . Combining the results of the low-energy spectra of Ni 68 and Zn 70 and their shell-model interpretations, it is interesting to notice that four different shapes (spherical, oblate, prolate, and triaxial) are present. Finally, a summed E 2 strength of only about 150 e 2 fm 4 has been found experimentally at high excitation energy, likely due to proton excitations across the Z = 28 gap. The experimental distribution of this high-energy E 2 excitation agrees with shell-model calculations, but its strength is about two times weaker.

Abstract: The unbound proton-rich nuclei $$^{16}$$ F and $$^{15}$$ F are investigated experimentally and theoretically. Several experiments using the resonant elastic scattering method were performed at GANIL with radioactive beams to determine the properties of the low lying states of these nuclei. Strong asymmetry between $$^{16}$$ F– $$^{16}$$ N and $$^{15}$$ F– $$^{15}$$ C mirror nuclei is observed. The strength of the $$nucleon-nucleon$$ effective interaction involving the loosely bound proton in the $$s_{1/2}$$ orbit is significantly modified with respect to their mirror nuclei $$^{16}$$ N and $$^{15}$$ C. The reduction of the effective interaction is estimated by calculating the interaction energies with a schematic zero-range force. It is found that, after correcting for the effects due to changes in the radial distribution of the single-particle wave functions, the mirror symmetry of the $$n-p$$ interaction is preserved between $$^{16}$$ F and $$^{16}$$ N, while a difference of 63% is measured between the $$p-p$$ versus $$n-n$$ interactions in the second excited state of $$^{15}$$ F and $$^{15}$$ C nuclei. Abstract: The structure of ³³Si was studied by a one-neutron knockout reaction from a ³⁴Si beam at 98.5 MeV/u incident on a 9 Be target. The prompt γ rays following the de-excitation of ³³Si were detected using the GRETINA γ -ray tracking array while the reaction residues were identified on an event-by-event basis in the focal plane of the S800 spectrometer at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The presently derived spectroscopic factor values, C 2 S , for the 3 / 2 + and 1 / 2 + states, corresponding to a neutron removal from the 0 d 3 / 2 and 1 s 1 / 2 orbitals, agree with shell model calculations and point to a strong N = 20 shell closure. Three states arising from the more bound 0 d 5 / 2 orbital are proposed, one of which is unbound by about 930 keV. The sensitivity of this experiment has also confirmed a weak population of 9 / 2 − and 11 / 2 − 1 , 2 final states, which originate from a higher-order process. This mechanism may also have populated, to some fraction, the 3 / 2 − and 7 / 2 − negative-parity states, which hinders a determination of the C 2 S values for knockout from the normally unoccupied 1 p 3 / 2 and 0 f 7 / 2 orbits.

Abstract: The first investigation of the single-particle structure of the bound states of 17C, via the d(16C, p) transfer reaction, has been undertaken. The measured angular distributions confirm the spin-parity assignments of 1/2+ and 5/2+ for the excited states located at 217 and 335 keV, respectively. The spectroscopic factors deduced for these states exhibit a marked single-particle character, in agreement with shell model and particle-core model calculations, and combined with their near degeneracy in energy provide clear evidence for the absence of the N = 14 sub-shell closure. The very small spectroscopic factor found for the 3/2+ ground state is consistent with theoretical predictions and indicates that the {\nu}1d3/2 strength is carried by unbound states. With a dominant l = 0 valence neutron configuration and a very low separation energy, the 1/2+ excited state is a one-neutron halo candidate., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract: The MUGAST-AGATA-VAMOS set-up at GANIL combines the MUGAST highly-segmented silicon array with the state-of-the-art AGATA array and the large acceptance VAMOS spectrometer. The mechanical and electronics integration copes with the constraints of maximum efficiency for each device, in particular {\gamma}-ray transparency for the silicon array. This complete set-up offers a unique opportunity to perform exclusive measurements of direct reactions with the radioactive beams from the SPIRAL1 facility. The performance of the set-up is described through its commissioning and two examples of transfer reactions measured during the campaign. High accuracy spectroscopy of the nuclei of interest, including cross-sections and angular distributions, is achieved through the triple-coincidence measurement. In addition, the correction from Doppler effect of the {\gamma}-ray energies is improved by the detection of the light particles and the use of two-body kinematics and a full rejection of the background contributions is obtained through the identification of heavy residues. Moreover, the system can handle high intensity beams (up to 108 pps). The particle identification based on the measurement of the time-of-flight between MUGAST and VAMOS and the reconstruction of the trajectories is investigated., Comment: 13 pages, 18 figures

Abstract: The structure of $^{34}$Si was studied through $\gamma$ spectroscopy separately in the $\beta^-$ decays of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in $^{34}$Si were populated independently from the two recently identified $\beta$-decaying states in $^{34}$Al having spin-parity assignments $J^\pi = 4^-$ dominated by the normal configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (f_{7/2})$ and $J^\pi = 1^+$ by the intruder configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (d_{3/2})^{-1}(f_{7/2})^{2}$. The paper reports on spectroscopic properties of $^{34}$Si such as an extended level scheme, spin and parity assignments based on log($ft$) values and $\gamma$-ray branching ratios, absolute $\beta$ feeding intensities and neutron emission probabilities. A total of 11 newly identified levels and 26 transitions were added to the previously known level scheme of $^{34}$Si. Large scale shell-model calculations using the {\sc sdpf-u-mix} interaction, able to treat higher order intruder configurations, are compared with the new results and conclusions are drawn concerning the predictive power of {\sc sdpf-u-mix}, the $N=20$ shell gap, the level of mixing between normal and intruder configurations for the 0$_1^+$, 0$_2^+$ and 2$_1^+$ states and the absence of triaxial deformation in $^{34}$Si.

Abstract: The electromagnetic decay properties of high spin states in 52Mn have been studied through various experiments with the GASP and EUROBALL arrays plus the ISIS charged-particle detector, the Neutron-Wall and the Recoil Filter Detector. From 7-7-particles coincidence measurements, spins and parities of these states have been determined and using the Doppler-shift attenuation method the mean life of some of these states have been determined. These results are compared with large scale shell-model calculations in the full fp shell.

Abstract: Intermediate energy single-neutron removal from $^{31}$Mg has been employed to investigate the transition into the N=20 island of inversion. Levels up to 5~MeV excitation energy in $^{30}$Mg were populated and spin-parity assignments were inferred from the corresponding longitudinal momentum distributions and $\gamma$-ray decay scheme. Comparison with eikonal-model calculations also permitted spectroscopic factors to be deduced. Surprisingly, the 0$^{+}_{2}$ level in $^{30}$Mg was found to have a strength much weaker than expected in the conventional picture of a predominantly $2p - 2h$ intruder configuration having a large overlap with the deformed $^{31}$Mg ground state. In addition, negative parity levels were identified for the first time in $^{30}$Mg, one of which is located at low excitation energy. The results are discussed in the light of shell-model calculations employing two newly developed approaches with markedly different descriptions of the structure of $^{30}$Mg. It is concluded that the cross-shell effects in the region of the island of inversion at Z=12 are considerably more complex than previously thought and that $np - nh$ configurations play a major role in the structure of $^{30}$Mg., Comment: Physics Letters B, Volume 779, 10 April 2018, Pages 124-129

Abstract: The half-life of $^{19}\mathrm{Ne}$ was measured using a real-time digital multiparametric acquisition system, providing an accurate time stamp and relevant information on the detector signals for each decay event. An exhaustive offline analysis of the data gave unique access to experimental effects potentially biasing the measurement. After establishing the influence factors impacting the measurement such as after-pulses, pile-up, gain, and baseline fluctuations, their effects were accurately estimated and the event selection optimized. The resulting half-life, $17.2569\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.{0019}_{(\text{stat})}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.{0009}_{(\text{syst})}$ s, is the most precise up to now for $^{19}\mathrm{Ne}$. It is found to be in agreement with two recent precise measurements and not consistent with the most recent one [L. J. Broussard et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 212301 (2014)] by 3.0 standard deviations. The full potential of the technique for nuclei with half-lives of a few seconds is discussed.

Abstract: The goal of the FAZIA Collaboration is the design of a new-generation 4π detector array for heavy-ion collisions with radioactive beams. This article summarizes the main results of the R&D phase, devoted to the search for significant improvements of the techniques for charge and mass identification of reaction products. This was obtained by means of a systematic study of the basic detection module, consisting of two transmission-mounted silicon detectors followed by a CsI(Tl) scintillator. Significant improvements in ΔE-E and pulse-shape techniques were obtained by controlling the doping homogeneity and the cutting angles of silicon and by putting severe constraints on thickness uniformity. Purposely designed digital electronics contributed to identification quality. The issue of possible degradation related to radiation damage of silicon was also addressed. The experimental activity was accompanied by studies on the physics governing signal evolution in silicon. The good identification quality obtained with the prototypes during the R&D phase, allowed us to investigate also some aspects of isospin physics, namely isospin transport and odd-even staggering. Now, after the conclusion of the R&D period, the FAZIA Collaboration has entered the demonstrator phase, with the aim of verifying the applicability of the devised solutions for the realization of a larger-scale experimental set-up.

Abstract: Many properties of the atomic nucleus, such as vibrations, rotations and incompressibility, can be interpreted as due to a two component quantum liquid of protons and neutrons. Electron scattering measurements on stable nuclei demonstrate that their central densities are saturated, as for liquid drops. In exotic nuclei near the limits of mass and charge, with large imbalances in their proton and neutron numbers, the possibility of a depleted central density, or a 'bubble' structure, has been discussed in a recurrent manner since the 1970s. Here we report first experimental evidence that points to a depletion of the central density of protons in the short-lived nucleus 34Si. The proton-to-neutron density asymmetry in 34Si offers the possibility to place constraints on the density and isospin dependence of the spin--orbit force-on which nuclear models have disagreed for decades-and on its stabilizing effect towards limits of nuclear existence., 6 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: International audience; The N=20 island of inversion is an excellent playground for testing shell model calculations. The Mg chain is a region of shell evolution still far from being well understood. In this paper we present preliminary results of a single-neutron knockout experiment from 31Mg performed at GANIL to study the structure of 31Mg and of the core 30Mg. The level scheme and longitudinal momentum distributions were mesured and spectroscopic factors were deduced. Negative parity states arise at low energy and the spectroscopic factor for the isomeric in 30Mg was determined to be smaller than foreseen in the standard picture. The preliminary experimental results are compared to state-of the art shell model calculations revealing opposed interpretations.

Abstract: In this paper we report about new prompt fission gamma-ray measurements, which we have performed with highly efficient gamma-ray detectors based on lanthanide-halide crystals, aiming at very fast timing in conjunction with a good energy resolution. About four decades after the experiments were performed, whose results are still used for current evaluations, we present new spectral prompt fission gamma-ray data from the reactions Cf-252(SF) and U-235(n(th),f). Based on our new findings we recommend to replace the current ENDF/B-VII. 1 evaluation for Cf-252(SF) and U-235(n(th),f) as well as to perform new measurements for U-238(n,f) and Pu-241(n,f).

Abstract: The response of silicon-silicon-CsI(Tl) telescopes, developed within the FAZIA collaboration, to fragments produced in nuclear reactions 84 Krþ 120-124 Sn at 35 A MeV, has been used to study ion identification methods. Two techniques are considered for the identification of the nuclear products in the silicon stages. The standard DEE one requires signals induced in two detection layers by ions punching through the first one. Conversely, the digital Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) allows the identification of ions stopped in the first silicon layer. The capabilities of these two identification methods have been compared for different mountings of the silicons, i.e. rear (particles entering through the low electric field side) or front (particles entering through the high electric field side) side injection. The DEE identification method gives exactly the same results in both configurations. At variance, the pulse shape discrimination is very sensitive to the detector mounting. In case of rear side injection, the identification with the ''energy vs. charge rise time'' PSA method presents energy thresholds which are significantly lower than in the case of front side injection. & 2012 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: The decays of two isomeric states in the neutron-rich nucleus $^{75}\mathrm{Cu}$ have been studied via delayed $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy. These states were populated by the fragmentation of a $60.4\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}A\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{MeV} ^{86}\mathrm{Kr}$ primary beam, which impinged on a Be target at the LISE2k spectrometer of GANIL. Isomeric half-lives and branching ratios were measured, and a $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence analysis performed. These have allowed a revised level scheme of $^{75}\mathrm{Cu}$ to be proposed. A comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations using different effective interactions and valence spaces shows the importance of proton excitations across the $Z=28$ shell gap for reproducing the energy spacing between the isomeric states. The coexisting collective and single-particle properties of the $(1/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ and $(3/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ states, respectively, are similar to those of the same states in the neighboring $^{69,71,73}\mathrm{Cu}$. The small energy spacings between the $(1/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}), (3/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}})$, and $5/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states are responsible for the isomerism.

Abstract: We have performed the $^{70}\mathrm{Zn}(d,^{3}\mathrm{He})^{69}\mathrm{Cu}$ proton pick-up reaction in direct kinematics using a deuteron beam at 27 MeV. The outgoing $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ particles were detected at the focal-plane detection system of an Enge split-pole spectrometer. The excitation-energy spectrum was reconstructed up to 7 MeV and spectroscopic factors were obtained after analysis of the angular distributions in the finite-range distorted-wave Born approximation. The results show three new angular distributions for which the $\ensuremath{\pi}{f}_{7/2}$ strength was measured and a lower limit of the centroid is established. State-of-the-art shell-model calculations are performed and predict a $\ensuremath{\pi}{f}_{7/2}$ strength that lies too high in energy in comparison to our experimental results.

Abstract: The reduced transition probabilities B(E2; 0+ g.s. → 2+ 1 ) of the 46Ar and 44Ca nuclei were studied using the Coulomb excitation technique at intermediate energy at the LISE/GANIL facility. The in-flight γ rays, emitted after the Coulomb excitation of their first 2+ states, were detected in an array of 64 BaF2 crystals. The present B(E2 ↑) value for 44Ca, 475(36) e2fm4 , agrees well with the value of 495(35) e2fm4 obtained by averaging results of previous experiments. Consistent B(E2; 0+ g.s. → 2+ 1 ) values of 225(29) e2fm4 and 234(19) e2fm4 have been obtained for 46Ar from an absolute and a relative measurement, normalized to the 44Ca value. Both results agree with the ones obtained with the same experimental technique at the NSCL facility but are a factor of 2 smaller than the shell model predictions. The drop in B(E2; 0+ g.s. → 2+ 1 ) in the Ar chain at N = 28, confirmed in this experiment, shows that 46Ar is sensitive to the N = 28 shell closure.

Abstract: The structure of $^{35}$P was studied with a one-proton knockout reaction at88~MeV/u from a $^{36}$S projectile beam at NSCL. The $\gamma$ rays from thedepopulation of excited states in $^{35}$P were detected with GRETINA, whilethe $^{35}$P nuclei were identified event-by-event in the focal plane of theS800 spectrograph. The level scheme of $^{35}$P was deduced up to 7.5 MeV using$\gamma-\gamma$ coincidences. The observed levels were attributed to protonremovals from the $sd$-shell and also from the deeply-bound $p\_{1/2}$ orbital.The orbital angular momentum of each state was derived from the comparisonbetween experimental and calculated shapes of individual ($\gamma$-gated)parallel momentum distributions. Despite the use of different reactions andtheir associate models, spectroscopic factors, $C^2S$, derived from the$^{36}$S $(-1p)$ knockout reaction agree with those obtained earlier from$^{36}$S($d$,\nuc{3}{He}) transfer, if a reduction factor $R\_s$, as deducedfrom inclusive one-nucleon removal cross sections, is applied to the knockout transitions.In addition to the expected proton-hole configurations, other states were observedwith individual cross sections of the order of 0.5~mb. Based on their shiftedparallel momentum distributions, their decay modes to negative parity states,their high excitation energy (around 4.7~MeV) and the fact that they were notobserved in the ($d$,\nuc{3}{He}) reaction, we propose that they may resultfrom a two-step mechanism or a nucleon-exchange reaction with subsequent neutronevaporation. Regardless of the mechanism, that could not yet be clarified, thesestates likely correspond to neutron core excitations in \nuc{35}{P}. Abstract: Intense and purified radioactive beam of post-accelerated $^{14}$O was used to study the low-lying states in the unbound $^{15}$F nucleus. Exploiting resonant elastic scattering in inverse kinematics with a thick target, the second excited state, a resonance at E$\_R$=4.757(6)(10)~MeV with a width of $\Gamma$=36(5)(14)~keV was measured for the first time with high precision. The structure of this narrow above-barrier state in a nucleus located two neutrons beyond the proton drip line was investigated using the Gamow Shell Model in the coupled channel representation with a $^{12}$C core and three valence protons. Abstract: In a series of experiments at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL conducted between 1999 and 2004, we have collected decay information for proton-rich nuclei between {sup 36}Ca and {sup 56}Zn. The data allowed us to study the decay properties of 26 nuclei. The main experimental information obtained for all nuclei is their {beta}-decay half-life and their total {beta}-delayed proton emission branching ratio. For many nuclei, individual proton groups and {gamma} rays were identified and allowed us to establish first partial decay schemes for some of the nuclei studied. In addition, mass-excess values have been determined for some of the nuclei by means of the isobaric multiplet mass equation. For {sup 50}Ni, the decay via {beta}-delayed two-proton emission could be tentatively identified. The decay of {sup 49}Ni allowed for the first time to identify the first 2{sup +} state in {sup 48}Fe. The experimental data are confronted to model predictions for the half-life and the mass-excess values.

Abstract: Excited states have been studied in $^{28}\mathrm{Na}$ using the $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay of implanted $^{28}\mathrm{Ne}$ ions at the Grand Acc\'el\'erateur National d'Ions Lourds/LISE as well as the in-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory/S800 facility. New states of positive $({J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={3}^{+},{4}^{+})$ and negative $({J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{\ensuremath{-}}--{5}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ parity are proposed. The former arise from the coupling between $0{d}_{5/2}$ protons and $0{d}_{3/2}$ neutrons, while the latter are attributable to couplings of $0{d}_{5/2}$ protons with $1{p}_{3/2}$ or $0{f}_{7/2}$ neutrons. While the relative energies between the ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{+}--{4}^{+}$ states are well reproduced with the USDA interaction in the $N=17$ isotones, a progressive shift in the ground-state binding energy (by about 500 keV) is observed between $^{26}\mathrm{F}$ and $^{30}\mathrm{Al}$. This points to a possible change in the proton-neutron $0{d}_{5/2}\text{\ensuremath{-}}0{d}_{3/2}$ effective interaction when moving from stability to the drip line. The presence of ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{\ensuremath{-}}--{4}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ negative-parity states around 1.5 MeV as well as of a candidate for a ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={5}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state around 2.5 MeV give further support to the collapse of the $N=20$ gap and to the inversion between the neutron $0{f}_{7/2}$ and $1{p}_{3/2}$ levels below $Z=12$. These features are discussed in the framework of shell-model and energy-density-functional calculations, leading to predicted negative-parity states in the low-energy spectra of the $^{26}\mathrm{F}$ and $^{25}\mathrm{O}$ nuclei.

Abstract: The response of silicon–silicon–CsI(Tl) telescopes, developed within the FAZIA collaboration, to fragments produced in nuclear reactions 84Kr+120-124Sn at 35 A MeV, has been used to study ion identification methods. Two techniques are considered for the identification of the nuclear products in the silicon stages. The standard ΔE−E one requires signals induced in two detection layers by ions punching through the first one. Conversely, the digital Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) allows the identification of ions stopped in the first silicon layer. The capabilities of these two identification methods have been compared for different mountings of the silicons, i.e. rear (particles entering through the low electric field side) or front (particles entering through the high electric field side) side injection. The ΔE−E identification method gives exactly the same results in both configurations. At variance, the pulse shape discrimination is very sensitive to the detector mounting. In case of rear side injection, the identification with the “energy vs. charge rise time” PSA method presents energy thresholds which are significantly lower than in the case of front side injection.

Abstract: The response of silicon–silicon–CsI(Tl) telescopes,developed within the FAZIA collaboration, to fragments produced in nuclear reactions 84Kr+120-124Sn at 35 AMeV, has been used to study ion identification methods. Two techniques are considered for thei dentification of thenuclear products in the silicon stages. The standard ΔE-E one requires signals induced in two detection layers by ions punching through the first one. Conversely, the digital Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) allows the identification of ions stopped in the first silicon layer. The capabilities of these two identification methods have been compared for different mountings of thesilicons, i.e.rear (particles entering through the low electric field side) or front (particles entering through the high electric field side) side injection.The ΔE-E identification method gives exactly the same results in both configurations. At variance, the puls eshape discrimination is very sensitive to the detector mounting. In case of rear side injection, the identification with the‘‘energyvs.charge risetime’’ PSA method presents energy thresholds which are significantly lower than in the case of front side injection.

Abstract: The strength functions of the πf5/2πf5/2, πp3/2πp3/2 and πf7/2πf7/2 orbitals in neutron-rich 71Cu were obtained in a 72Zn(d,3He)71Cu proton pick-up reaction in inverse kinematics using a radioactive beam of 72Zn at 38 MeV/u. A dedicated set-up was developed to overcome the experimental challenges posed by the low cross section of the reaction and the low energy of the outgoing 3He particles. The excitation-energy spectrum was reconstructed and spectroscopic factors were obtained after analysis of the angular distributions with the finite-range Distorted-Wave Born Approximation (DWBA). The results show that unlike for the πf5/2πf5/2 orbital and contrary to earlier interpretation, the πf7/2πf7/2 single-particle strength distribution is not appreciably affected by the addition of neutrons beyond N=40N=40., The authors are thankful to the Ganil accelerator staff, informatics service and to the IPN design office. Abstract: The structure of the $^{24}$F nucleus has been studied at GANIL using the $\beta$ decay of $^{24}$O and the in-beam $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy from the fragmentation of projectile nuclei. Combining these complementary experimental techniques, the level scheme of $^{24}$F has been constructed up to 3.6 Mev by means of particle-$\gamma$ and particle-$\gamma\gamma$ coincidence relations. Experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations using the standard USDA and USDB interactions as well as ab-initio valence-space Hamiltonians calculated from the in-medium similarity renormalization group based on chiral two- and three-nucleon forces. Both methods reproduce the measured level spacings well, and this close agreement allows unidentified spins and parities to be consistently assigned., Comment: 5 figures, 2 tables

Abstract: The results of the IS530 experiment at ISOLDE revealed new information concerning several nuclei close to the N ≈ 20 'Island of Inversion' - 34Mg, 34Al, 34Si. The half-life of 34Mg was found to be three times larger than the adopted value (63(1) ms instead of 20(10) ms). The beta-gamma spectroscopy of 34Mg performed for the first time in this experiment, led to the first experimental level scheme for 34Al, also showing that the full beta strength goes through the predicted 1+ isomer in 34Al [1] and/or excited states that deexcite to it. The subsequent beta-decay of the 1+ isomer in 34Al allowed the observation of new gamma lines in 34Si, (tentatively) associated with low-spin high-energy excited states previously unobserved.

Abstract: In the framework of the EURISOL project, the production of neutron-rich isotopes of rubidium and cesium has been studied. The intensities of mass-separated beams of rubidium and cesium isotopes generated from a thick 238 UC x target connected to a surface ionizer have been measured. The release properties of 140 Cs and 91 Rb have been investigated. The obtained results allowed us to determine the relative fission yields of rubidium and cesium isotopes with high accuracy.

Abstract: Radioactive beams of $^{14}\mathrm{O}$ and $^{15}\mathrm{O}$ were used to populate the resonant states ${1/2}^{+}$, ${5/2}^{+}$ and ${0}^{\ensuremath{-}},{1}^{\ensuremath{-}},{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ in the unbound $^{15}\mathrm{F}$ and $^{16}\mathrm{F}$ nuclei, respectively, by means of proton elastic scattering reactions in inverse kinematics. Based on their large proton spectroscopic factor values, the resonant states in $^{16}\mathrm{F}$ can be viewed as a core of $^{14}\mathrm{O}$ plus a proton in the $2{s}_{1/2}$ or $1{d}_{5/2}$ shell and a neutron in $1{p}_{1/2}$. Experimental energies were used to derive the strength of the $2{s}_{1/2}$-$1{p}_{1/2}$ and $1{d}_{5/2}$-$1{p}_{1/2}$ proton-neutron interactions. It is found that the former changes by 40% compared with the mirror nucleus $^{16}\mathrm{N}$, and the latter changes by 10%. This apparent symmetry breaking of the nuclear force between mirror nuclei finds explanation in the role of the large coupling to the continuum for the states built on an $\ensuremath{\ell}=0$ proton configuration.

Abstract: The production of very neutron-deficient isotopes near 100Sn has been investigated by using on-line mass separation of evaporation residues produced by heavy-ion induced complete-fusion reactions. We measured the cross sections for 99Cd, 100In, 101Sn and 102In via 58Ni+58Ni fusion reactions followed by cluster emission, and via 58Ni+50Cr fusion reactions accompanied by evaporation of protons, neutrons or α particles. Both types of reactions yield similar cross sections for the production of exotic nuclei near 100Sn. The data are discussed in comparison with results obtained from statistical-model calculations.

Abstract: The GT beta decay of 150 Ho has been studied with a Total Absorption Spectrometer (TAS), with an array of 6 Euroball CLUSTER Ge detectors (the CLUSTER CUBE), and with an alpha detector. The three techniques complement each other. The results provide the first observation of an extremely sharp resonance in GT beta decay.

Abstract: The β-delayed proton decay of 113Xe was investigated by means of a total absorption γ-ray spectrometer and a telescope for particle detection. The energy window available for the β-delayed proton decay of 113Xe and the relative branching ratios for proton transitions to the 112Te states were remeasured. The lifetimes of proton unstable 113I states populated in the electron capture decay of 113Xe were determined by means of the particle-X-ray coincidence technique. The results of the lifetime measurements are compared with statistical-model calculations.
